There are to options of runecombinations:

1. Magicpen Quints, Greater Seal of Replenishment MP5 Seals and Magicresist/lvl Glyphs

2. Magicpen Quints, Flat Armor Seals and Greater Glyph of Replenishment MP5 Glyphs

1. and 2. Flat HP Quints


The first option is when you will go against Casters, the 2nd option is when you take the toplane and are faced against a AD-Champ.

Summoner Spells:

As summoner spells I chose Flash and Ignite.
Flash is very usefull to escape and engage a fight. Ignite will help yu in the laneingphase to finish someone when your spells are on cooldown.

Teleport is also a good alternative for Ignite especially when you go top.

I max Idol of Durand first because of the better damageoutput. Then I go for Resolute Smite which gives me a high damageoutput and a good slow to chase or to run away. Because movmentspeed is very importent and in order to get more damage I go for Righteous Gust next. If you want to get tanier max Bulwark before Righteous Gust. It will also give you 45 AP due to your passive.

Core items

These are the items I nearly get every single game. Chalice of Harmony gives me nice magicresistance and manaregeneration which helps me a lot in the early game. Mercury's Treads also gives magicresistence and reduces the Duration of CCs. Rod of Ages is a great mid-lategame item as it provides a lot of health and mana as well as nice AP. It also helps you to stay in lane longer due to his passive. In lategame Abyssal Scepter is a must have on Galio. It gives nice magicresistence and AP as well as a lot of magicpen. All in all due to your passive it provides 99 AP!

Preferred items

After my core items I prefer to get Guardian Angel and Banshee's Veil. GA gives me nice armor and magicresistance. It also has an amazing passive. BV is also great as it provides huge magiresist and it also has a really good passive.

Other viable items and when to get them



Frozen Heart: Get it when the enemies have champs like Tryn, Yi and champs that rely heavily on attackspeed. But make sure taht you are the only one who get it, otherwise its a waste of money.

Randuin's Omen: You should get this when one of your teammembers already has Frozen Heart and you are faced against a heavy AD team.

Rabadon's Deathcap: Buy it when you are the only AP un your team and you think you are already tanky enought so you can deal much more damage.

Shurelya's Reverie: Shurelya's is one of the best items ingame.. feel free to get it when you are not able to farm that good. Philo should give you some gold and furthermore its just an amazing fast boost with your E.

Quicksilver Sash: You should get this when the enemies have lots of CC like Warwick, Skarner and Malzahar.

Force of Nature: Buy it against a suoer heavy AP team like Fiddle jungle, Vlad Top and Cassio mid. Will help you a lot.

Void Staff: You should get this item when you are the only AP in your team and your enemies stack magicresi. It will raise your damage output.

Laneing:

First of all always try to get the midlane. The reason is simple: You have 73 magiresistence at the beginning and therefore also 34 AP. If you go top you normaly are not faced against APs so thats why I put the armor runes in. With 73 magicresistance you counter every AP. Try to get an early blue buff from your jungler so you can harras even more. A combo of Resolute Smite and Righteous Gust should trhow your enemy below 60% health. Then try to hit him with one Resolute Smite again, Flash in and use Idol of Durand + Ignite. This shold be a sure kill in 90% of the cases. O good thing with Galio is also that you can easy outfarm your enemy. Just use a Q+E combo to clear a minionwave after you hit level 7. Before you should be able to clear a wave with useing Q twice. But always try to outzone your enemy. When he comes closer, use your combo and dont push the lane. Just let him go back to his tower so you can easy farm with autoattacks.
An other option is to push the lane and try to gank bot or top. With your Idol of Durand there should be a sure kill.
When you are midlane make sure everytime the wraiths on both sides are up to kill them with a Q+E Combo.

Teamfights:

In teamfights your job is it to protect your AD-Carry as well as to engage a fight. When you engage a fight make sure that you hit EVERY enemy who can interrupt your Idol of Durand (care if they have a ). An other option is to wait until for example Sona did her ultimate. Then the enemys would engage at your team and you can cast Idol of Durand. Also make sure before you cast Idol of Durand that you put Bulwark at urself to get 45 more AP and to be tankier while they are attacking you. After your ultimate always put Bulwark on your AD-Carry. In combination with Aegis of the Legion the carry will get +110 armor and magicresistance. That is just freaking amazing. Also make sure to spam your spells and give your teammates a speedbuff or slow the enemies.

So far, I can say that Galio is my favorite char now and that I win (nearly) every game with him. In my opinion he is so underrated... Anyway, these are just my thoughts on Galio.
