Malzahar
Reworked Malzahar is fairly tough for this fellow. His silence and ulti kills you within a blink of an eye. Buy a quicksilver sash against his ulti (I do not know whether it will remove his ulti but hey!)
Hey there, fellow summoner!
Hi there,
I am TableSquared from Southeast Asia server.
Who am I?
I am the same species like Cowsep, a Master Yi Main. I enjoyed him since Season 3 and have never main other champion except for him.
I am currently unranked (FeelsBadMan) as in Singapore, having time to play League of Legends is very hard. Yes, you may question why you should trust an unranked player's guide, but if you carry on reading, it may actually help you a lot. (Thick skin I know huehuehue)
I am currently rank 5 on Master Yi, here's the proof.
Spoiler: Click to view

Anyway, lets get down to the point whereby you are here, shall we?
You read the chapter title already, so lets go.
Master Yi potential
Pros
- Very good in 1v1
- Excellent assassin
- Ganking potential
- Easy to play
- Very easy to build him
- Teamfight potential
- Late game master
Cons
- Squishy early game
- Need items to deal damage
- Gets stunned, he is a goner
- Very hard to win if tilted
- His (E) got nerfed
- Ulti got nerfed to 7 seconds
Alpha Strike and
Meditate is hard to use if you do not know how to use them correctly
- Will get focused a lot
Patch 6.9 and 6.10 changed his foundations a lot, so he may be harder to play.
Don't worry though, if you follow me, you will definitely have no issues with him.
Lets get down to his base, Runes and Masteries
The runes that I am using with him is
Runes

Why armor and attack speed?
Attack speed helps him to attack faster, making his Alpha Strike (Q) cooldown faster.
Armor runes helps him to reduce damage from neutral monster and large monsters in early game.
Masteries
If you haven't read my masteries note, don't worry, I have you covered.
The reason why Fervor of battle > Stormraider's Surge is,
- Fervor of Battle scales with AA, which is excellent for Master Yi.
- Stormraider's Surge does not scale with AA, but it is excellent if you can deal a LOT ton of damage within 2.5s.
For me, I personally prefer Fervor of Battle but hey, if you really want Stormraider's Surge, go ahead then! No one is stopping you from trying anything out :)
The summoner's spell I prefer is
Ghost and
Smite
Lets get down to the summoner's spells that Master Yi can use.
Why
Ghost, TableSquared?
Ghost> Flash.
Ghost is good for chasing and it is a substitute for your ultimate, Highlander, use it for early game gank. Also, it's cooldown got reduced to 180 seconds (3 min).
Smite is very ESSENTIAL in jungle. It not only allow you to have additional buffs from large monster, it also deals TRUE DAMAGE to the monsters or neutral creeps that you smite. It helps you to clear the jungle camps fairly easily, also make some sick steals of objectives if you can.
This spell is useful for sudden teamfight or immediate lane ganking.
It is useful for 1v1 or kill secure of enemy champion.
Don't take this spell. I'm warning you.
These are the summoner's spells summary by me.
Master Yi's ability is very AWESOME.
Why do I say that?
Lets get down to his abilities and you will unravel his secret potentials.
This ability is what makes him strong. It lets Master Yi to strike up to 4 enemies, alllow you to travel with your enemy if they
Flash and you
Alpha Strike right in time. It also allows Master Yi to be UNTARGETABLE when he is in
Alpha Strike. This ability can turn the tables in teamfight if you know who to
Alpha Strike to. In addition, you will always land on the side of the character you
Alpha Strike to, with or without the regards the character is dead or alive. When his
Alpha Strike is on cooldown, you do not have to worry about it as it's cooldown is scaled with his autoattack. Each autoattack reduces this ability by 1 second.
His W, Meditate, is the reason why he is in jungle.
Firstly, When he is in
Meditate, He takes 50/55/60/65/70% damage reduction from any character, but reduces to 25/27.5/30/32.5/35% damage reduction if hit by enemy turrets.
This ability is good as it not only let Master Yi to have damage reduction when he is in
Meditate, he also regenerate health when he is in it too.
This ability have passive and active.
Passive: Gain 10% when
Wuju Style is not on cooldown.
This grands him extra attack damage and yes, it also increases
Alpha Strike damage if not on cooldown.
Active: Grants Master Yi's basic attack to deal true damage.
His true damage is 14/23/32/41/50 +25% bonus AD
Same like his E, it have passive and active.
Passive: For each champion takedown, reduce his ability cooldown by 70%
This is too op.
Active: Master Yi gains bonus attack speed and movement speed for 7 seconds. Enemy takedown while in
Highlander will increase the duration for additional 7 seconds.
This is useful in 1v1 as you know, Master Yi is dependant on autoattacks and attack speed.
His ability leveling order:
Why max Q first?
His Q strikes 4 enemies and also deal additional damage when you rank it up, making jungle clear faster.
For the items, I personally prefer skirmisher's sabre: bloodrazor and
Blade of the Ruined King for attack speed. Boots and defences can vary for the situation.
Example build,
Skirmisher's sabre: bloodrazor,
Blade of the Ruined King,
Berserker's Greaves,
Black Cleaver,
Guardian Angel and
Zz'Rot Portal.
This build is fairly easy to shred enemy and also become your allies' frontline. You can either kill ADC quickly or shred tanks for your allies' to kill.
Blade of the ruined king |
VS
|
Guinsoo's Rageblade |
Why
Blade of the Ruined King >
Guinsoo's Rageblade??
Well if you haven't been online on League of Legends or you live under a rock,
Guinsoo's Rageblade is pretty much useless on Master Yi.
The new
Guinsoo's Rageblade does not deal magic damage on-hit anymore, but every 6th stack of it, it will activate it's passive.
It's new passive is simply just like the old Sate Devourer, nothing fun.
Blade of the Ruined King will let you deal more physical damage based on the enemies' health. This passive stacks up with your jungle enchantment,
Enchantment: Bloodrazor.
Normally I will start with my red buff side first, as Master Yi have no mana issues if you know how to work with him.
Work with ancient krugs to get it's buff.
The buff allows your 6th autoattack to stun the character you hit. This is good for Master Yi early game farm as he is squishy.
Skip the
red brambleback as it will level up. I'll explain why later on.
Go straight to
raptor camp and etc. Just remember to ward your buffs and do them after your first back to base.
Get your hunter's tailsman and
Dagger for more attack speed and more damage to jungle creeps.
Why skip the buffs, TableSquared?
Well as they level up, the experience they give you will be higher. This not only allow you to out level your opponent, but also have more gold collected as most of your camps should have reset by the time you finish your red/blue buff.
As devourer got removed, a lot of things changes.
First thing:
- Devourer got replaced by Bloodrazor
- It's passive got shifted to new Guinsoo's Rageblade
- Thus, Master Yi does not need to take objectives to be stronger
