Paramedic Sion TOP [Small Remake after update]

By buff sion finally
Introduction

Hello,

I'm a Sion player and I like to come up with my own strategies and builds --> Tell me if there is any problem with this build, so maybe it can be improved.
The point of this build is to save your teammates and carries from everything possible, assassins and chaotic team fights.
In the laning phase you're required to survive (enemies make mistakes, it's possible to kill solo) and gank bot or mid lane constantly when ult is up.

If you do everything successfully, you're putting your lanes/carries ahead, and you're still a very important role, even when behind because of your amazing abilities and support items.

Why Build Support?

In my opinion the tank items currently are ineffective and overpriced. The damage is too high and they get hard penetrated.
There are a lot of people who build AD on Sion. I'm not a fan of that because you have to hit your abilities which is incredibly hard to do. To hit your abilities efficiently you need your teammates to bait so the attention won't be focused on you.

But if you're going to do this then why not support the teammate and let him do the damage instead lol? So this is what this build is all about. Sion has Heal, Guardian shield, Locket of the Iron Solari shields, Redemption long range heals/damage...The enemies do not expect all this, also with Sion's heavy cc.

Heal > Flash

Flash is basically used for getting out or getting in.
But if you do know how to use Unstoppable Onslaught correctly then there is no need to Flash in. I had many matches where I did not touch Flash a single time late game.
Getting out of a situation is where Flash is needed but with this build you will be playing so carefully that there will be no need to flash out most of the time.

Heal is a much more flexible spell. You can get out of situations with it's movement speed/heal just like with Flash and you can even do the same for allies with it's big range. You can also bait enemies with heal making them think they have the upper hand, can be used in all situations.
It's a much more useful spell on Sion in my opinion.

Abilities

All of Sion's abilities are useful and you should pick what you believe will benefit you most in your situation.

Start with Soul Furnace if you want early stacks and are also able to farm safely.
Start with Decimating Smash if you want to battle fight early.

Maxing Decimating Smash is probably the best way to go, but with this build you will apparently be ganking often and you will be building some weak defensive items so you can also put some levels in Soul Furnace for some burst damage with the Unstoppable Onslaught engage and also for some more defense for yourself.

Put points into Roar of the Slayer only if you need a bigger slow, or lower cd if you are using it to farm from long range (depends on the top matchup).

Runes - Defense

For the main keystone you can take either Grasp of the Undying or Guardian.

Take Guardian if you won't be able to or maybe you don't want to use Grasp of the Undying in lane, for example against a ranged matchup or a matchup where you would not want to go into melee range like against Darius, Aatrox, many champions that you wouldn't want to fight melee.
By taking Guardian you're not trolling, you're being effective. It's a very powerful rune if you know how to use it, which can possibly even turn around small fights.

Sion is very weak early, the 2 or 3 healing runes, Grasp of the Undying, Second Wind and Taste of Blood will help you stay in lane longer.

Font of Life is very under-powered but it could be combined with an item like Ardent Censer.
Font of Life could also be exchanged with Demolish.

Second Wind can be replaced with Conditioning. Second Wind healing is very weak, if you do not need healing I would recommend taking Conditioning instead.

The most important keystone for my strategy is Ingenious Hunter...Huge item cooldown reduction. I can constantly use Locket of the Iron Solari and Redemption whenever I need to. These 2 items can save games, having them ready helps a lot.

Runes - 'Glacial Augment' (Regular Sion Gameplay)

This is a normal Rune tree on Sion, nothing special. Glacial Augment makes your auto attacks simply slow enemies for 2 seconds, it's like having a second Roar of the Slayer ability.
It has a 7-4 second cooldown only on the target it was used on, so you can apply the slow on any other unit meanwhile.
Start with Decimating Smash.
Max only Decimating Smash.

You will be mostly using Decimating Smash and Roar of the Slayer (sometimes not even Roar of the Slayer cause of the Glacial Augment slow) which use up little amount of mana so purchasing Doran's Shield as the first item would be the best buy.

Glacial Augment also has an extra ability involving item slows. It simply just adds bonus slows to item actives.
So if you combine Glacial Augment with items like Turbo Chemtank, Randuin's Omen or Zeke's Convergence, they guarantee your Decimating Smash to always hit, allowing you to completely immobilize enemies.
Turbo Chemtank is an essential item. All its stats are very useful and the active gives you the ability to charge into battle without using Unstoppable Onslaught and saving it for later.

This build is good against some juggernauts, like a Garen, Darius, Nasus. Depends on the team comps.

Runes - DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE

Do not use this rune tree anymore! Doesn't work after update. Comet is better now

The support items

Building support items on Sion top may feel very awkward and unusual. Like not only you have to press q,w,e,r but now you have to press numbers 1,2,3...f or d to Heal.
It may be a bit overwhelming at first but as always you'll get used to it over time and how to use it effectively.

For the first item Redemption is best. It's the only item you'll need for Mana because of it's big regeneration, it gives some defense and long range heal or damage, which allows you to even support mid from top lane.

Locket of the Iron Solari for the second item.

And for the third you can pick whatever is in your opinion necessary. If you're doing well you can buy Knight's Vow, Warmog's Armor if you need more defense, Twin Shadows if you want to guarantee your Unstoppable Onslaught to hit.

For this build you do not need boots because you will be sticking with the team, you can disengage with your abilities and engage with Unstoppable Onslaught. You won't be running away from battle once you commit.

Important notes - farming

Sion is the type of champion that does not need farm. Stacking and gold is unneeded on Sion. You need gold of course but not as much as your teammates need it. Your effectiveness stays exactly the same even if you are behind.
Don't forget that you are supporting them. As long as you have your support items you should give your teammates priority over farm.

Same with Soul Furnace stacking.
You should never put stacking over your team. The team is priority. No matter how much bonus HP you have it will never save the game.

Laning Phase

You just farm, use your abilities to farm if needed, if possible harass with 'e', 'q' maybe 'w'. Try not to push hard, you may push by mistake as you use your abilities and pay attention to map.

Try to survive and stay in lane, till level 6....if not, you can back before, doesn't matter, just extending time to lv 6, that's it.
Always try not to Teleport to lane if not needed.

When you get level 6, just shove the wave and back immediately. You're basically going to gank bot with your Unstoppable Onslaught.

But before you do, walk closer to your bot tower, so the enemy will not have much reaction time when they hear it, stay out of enemy sight! Be patient and ult when it's time, when the enemies are in the correct spot. Your bot lane can purposefully make a mistake to bait the enemies into engaging (ask them), making it easier for you. You don't have to worry about them dying because you have Heal or maybe also Guardian.

The best thing you can get out of this is 2 kills, tower and maybe also a dragon...the worst thing you can get is Summoner Spells, which is pretty useful, and maybe death if you get counter ganked.

---

Now after you gank bot you should return top. You can ask your Jungler to defend top for the while, and just walk up there later to save Teleport. If your Jungler is not there you don't have to teleport because the enemy doesn't have enough damage to chunk the tower down.

When you get back into lane you play normally/defensively, but when your Unstoppable Onslaught is at 20 or 30 seconds cooldown, you again push wave and back quickly...gank bot again or mid (ganking bot often will become obvious).
By the time you get to their bot/mid tower, your ult is ready and you repeat again...
You can also just walk from top to mid lane and attack from the side with Unstoppable Onslaught, but it's more expected.

Just use ult to gank constantly. You'll be out of lane often.

Later in Game

Later the game will go all over the place. You should defend your towers, from getting pushed to base.

When you will be with your team try not to show up on the map for enemies. What you're going to be doing is staying back, out of sight while your teammate(s) are at the frontline.
You're basically using them as bait, making it look like they are overextending which does not matter because you'll anyways save them with your heals and shields.
Or you can just engage like you did from the Laning Phase.

So with this build you're not front-lining but instead supporting and using your allies as bait to hit your abilities very easily.

When you will be the champion that starts the engage in team fights, use Unstoppable Onslaught wisely, if you fail you will bait your whole team in. Do not rush the ult.
Be careful for enemy flash, making you overextend into the enemy after you miss.

Extra Tips

-Using Passive Glory in Death in teamfights

If you die, your passive gives you a second life...for a short duration.
During this time you can use your item actives, but not summoner spells.

So for example during your passive you can run up to your teammates and use Locket of the Iron Solari, Randuin's Omen if you haven't yet.
I would not rush using Redemption if not needed. You can use redemption after dying, so saving it for a better opportunity would be better.

-Engaging on a Spell Shield and Black Shield with Unstoppable Onslaught

Simply said all you have to do is pop Soul Furnace before you touch the enemy. Easier said than done, you have to steer, and do this while in fast motion.
Black Shield absorbs amounts of magic damage so be sure to have enough damage in Soul Furnace.

-Sion's Decimating Smash hitbox

- Unstoppable Onslaught vs Soul Furnace hitbox

Conclusion
I haven't played the game for a long time. Not sure what's the state now.
Please tell me your opinion on this build, how to improve it, what's the problem, etc.

Thank you! :)
