Introduction

Hello, my name is Sixxth Berry. With the release of Enchantment: Runic Echoes in patch 6.1, it has already proven to be a powerful item for AP junglers, helping junglers such as Elise, Diana, and Fiddlesticks to be very strong. However, one jungler it works surprisingly well on is Udyr. With the 10% movespeed plus Boots of Swiftness, you are nearly uncatchable and running up to someone with Blazing Stampede that quickly will likely burn a Flash or net you or your allies a kill. This build was popularized by popular streamer Trick2g at the end of patch 6.1, but has just started to rise in popularity during the middle of patch 6.2.

I am editing this build into a full guide, expect updates to the guide over the next few weeks as I complete sections.

Pros and Cons

Pros

+ 500+ movespeed
+ Strong splitpush, especially with Zz'Rot Portal
+ Mid game powerspike with Enchantment: Runic Echoes + Sheen
+ Easily clears the jungle/ waveclears
+ Can solo dragon and rift herald
+ Lots of AOE damage while still building tanky
Enchantment: Runic Echoes currently gives 10% movespeed, which, when combined with Boots of Swiftness - Alacrity, make your Blazing Stampede give you 600 movespeed. This is easily enough to catch up to most champions to stun them, or enough to run away quickly from a bad fight. The Echo passive combined with your Wingborne Storm helps you to clear jungle camps or waves very quickly. This waveclear means you can splitpush very easily, especially because of his great turret taking abilities. Sheen proc plus Wilding Claw means you can destroy towers and then quickly run away before the enemies can stop you. If you pick up a Zz'Rot Portal as well, you can push a wave to turret, drop a portal in a bush, and then go to push another wave, or group with your team. You are also extremely strong in the mid game after you have your core build. You also don't need many damage items to do insane damage; building mostly tank, you will still have very strong AOE damage in teamfights. Also, with a blue buff, you can solo both dragon and Rift Herald.

Cons

+ Somewhat easy to kite (though Boots of Swiftness helps with this)
+ Doesn't have the same late game power as Sated Devourer
+ Average ganks
+ Mana hungry/blue buff reliant before you have Enchantment: Runic Echoes
+ No real gap closer/escape
Udyr as a champion is quite easily kited. One of the reasons for running this build over the other options (Devourer, Cinderhulk, Warrior) is that you won't get kited as easily with your insane movespeed, but that won't stop certain champions who are very good at kiting from being able to kite you easily. Taking Enchantment: Runic Echoes on Udyr makes you stronger in the early game, but weaker in the late game in comparison to an Udyr who bought Sated Devourer. His ganks, while not bad by any means, are not as good as some other ganking junglers (ex. Elise, Rammus, Rek'Sai). Udyr also uses a lot of mana early game, and you will need the first two blue buffs to be able to do anything. This gets easier once you get your Enchantment: Runic Echoes. Lastly, he lacks any real gap closer, without his Flash, other than his Blazing Stampede, if you can even count that.

Skill Sequence

Ability Sequence Order

> > >
I like to max r, Wingborne Storm, first for its AOE damage for waveclear, plus its AP scaling with Enchantment: Runic Echoes. I max w, Iron Mantle, second for it's large shield and increased healing on attacks, which scales with your Runic Armor . Plus, the shield scales with the AP your built from Enchantment: Runic Echoes. Then, I max my e, Blazing Stampede, because the increased movement speed buff it gives is very strong for both chasing and escaping. Lastly, I put my other points into my q, Wilding Claw. When using this build, it is outclassed by your other abilities. However, it is still helpful for the attack speed buff it gives you.

Monkey's Agility Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% attack speed and 5 bonus movement speed for 5 seconds. This effect stacks 3 times.
This passive helps to give you a lot of movespeed and attack speed in fights. You can utilize this by spamming your spells as you're running away from someone or trying to catch up, to keep the buff up for your movespeed.

Tiger Stance Activation: On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, dealing normal attack and dealing 120 / 130 / 140 / 150 / 160% of his attack damage + 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 extra damage over 2 seconds as physical damage. In addition, your attack speed is increased by an additional 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70% for 5 seconds.
Persistent Effect: Basic attacks deal 15% of his total attack damage as bonus physical damage on hit.

On a normal Enchantment: Devourer Udyr, this would be an essential skill, however, using this build, it is not very helpful The only thing it gives is a small attack speed buff which helps to take down turrets faster.

Turtle Stance Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of ability power) damage.
Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks restore 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 18% of his damage as health.

This ability is quite good for this build, with its 0.5 AP ratio making it so your shield is quite large. It's also good for sustaining in the jungle. I can't count how many times this ability has saved me in a close fight from an Ignite or Death Mark.

Bear Stance Activation: Udyr gains 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 % increased movement speed and ignores unit collision for 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.75 / 3 seconds. Udyr dashes slightly forward when attacking a target while the buff is still active, and only when he stuns the target.
Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds.

Blazing Stampede is very good on Udyr because it helps him catch up to enemies and stop them from getting away, and it is very helpful in cancelling channelled abilities such as Crowstorm or Curtain Call. You can also use it to get away from enemies due to the movespeed buff.

Phoenix Stance Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 15 / 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 (+25% of ability power) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. His first attack after activating Phoenix Stance deals 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+45% of ability power) magic damage to all enemies in front of him.
Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+45% of ability power) magic damage.

The strongest ability on AP Udyr, this helps to proc the Echo passive often, and it deals a lot of burst damage that enemies won't be expecting. Also, if you have 2 stacks of the Wingborne Storm passive, you can auto-R-auto for Tons Of Damage(tm).

Masteries

Mastery Explanations
Cunning tree for some increased utility, especially because of Dangerous Game . Then, I get 18 points in the Resolve tree. This makes you tankier and I make sure to get masteries such as Runic Armor and Swiftness that synergize well with this build. For my Keystone, I pick up Strength of the Ages . Not only does this make up for a general lack of health items in this build, but you can also stack it quickly due to Udyr's quick clear speed. See below for specifics on each tree.

space
Cunning

I like to get Wanderer over Savagery because your clears are already good enough, plus, Wanderer helps you to get around the map faster, allowing you to clear faster and gank easier.

Next, I pick up Runic Affinity . You would not need Secret Stash because you won't be buying health pots anyways. The Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation would not be used at all. Assassin is alright if you plan on invading the enemy jungler often, but otherwise,I wouldn't bother taking it, the increase in buff duration is very helpful on someone like Udyr.

Merciless is good for finishing off low health enemies because of the increased damage when they are below 40% health, but more importantly, it lets you get to the next tier of the Cunning tree.

Dangerous Game is great on any champion; its passive has saved me more times than I can count. It's great for saving yourself from any DoT abilities in a close fight, or just in teamfights where you might be getting lots of kills and assists.

RESOLVE

Unyielding is a great mastery for this build, because you are going to getting lots of bonus armor and MR from your items. This will help to amplify that.

Explorer will just help you get through the river faster for ganks and in the bushes in the jungle. It's a great mastery for junglers.

Runic Armor is an amazing mastery on Udyr, as it amplifies your Iron Mantle's shield and passive lifesteal. This combination helps to keep you pretty healthy in general.

Insight is a good choice with this build because it lowers the cooldown on your summoner spells, which is very helpful if you take flash. Flashing and then instantly using a Blazing Stampede auto attack onto someone is quite good for surprising them with the stun and keeping them from escaping.

Swiftness is very good for keeping onto people and reducing how long you are cc'd for. This decreases the amount that enemies can kite you.

Bond of Stone is an amazing mastery for this build. In general, you will not be building too many health items. Bond of Stone helps to make up for this. Plus, you can stack its passive very quickly due to Udyr's insane clear speed.

Runes

SPACE
Recommended Runes
SPACE
Greater Mark of Attack Speed : Udyr scales very well with attack speed due to his Wingborne Storm proccing with every third auto attack. This will allow you to get more of those off, significantly increasing your damage output.
Greater Seal of Armor : I like taking these runes because the jungle camps deal physical damage, and the armor is helpful in the early game against them, as well as enemy champions.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist : I take these glyphs because I'm not often facing heavy magic damage in the early game, and these allow me to have more magic resist later on.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed : This build works off of Udyr being very fast, and this will help to increase your movespeed considerably. You will be able to catch up to people easier and get around the map for clearing or ganks faster.

Other Viable Choices
SPACE
Greater Mark of Attack Speed : While not optimal, these are a suitable choice if you do not own Greater Mark of Attack Speed runes.
Greater Seal of Scaling Health : As said before, this build does not have much health, so you can pick up these instead of the Greater Seal of Armor if they do not have a lot of physical damage.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed : You can use these quints if you do not have Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, or if you feel you have enough movespeed and just want the attack speed increase. If you'd prefer, you can use only 1 or 2 Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed and the rest with Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed.

Summoner Spells

I take Flash nearly every game with Udyr, it is essential on almost any champion. A Flash Blazing Stampede combo lets you gap close a large distance and surprise the enemy with a stun. This is great for catching enemies. It is also good for escaping bad situations.

Smite is essential on every jungler, no exceptions. It allows you to get your jungle enchantment, Enchantment: Runic Echoes, which is one of the core items in this build. It is also helpful when taking objectives like dragon, Rift Herald, or baron.

Ghost, while a strong option on Udyr, is situational. With this build, you already will have enough movespeed, so it is less relavent. Plus, flash is very helpful due to Udyr not having a gap closer. Take it only if they do not have many escapes to get away from Blazing Stampede.
