Introduction

Updated: 12/24/2011

*** PLEASE NOTE THIS GUIDE IS FOR SEASON 1-3 THIS GUIDE MAKES NO SENSE FOR SEASON 5 ***

Hello friends, you may have seen me in game as Cheatx, but probably not. I am a professional 666 ELO player, here to bring you guys a Veigar build that is so dominant in burst and AP damage, it will force the entire opposing team to buy Banshee's Veil, or end up dead like(haha).

Jokes aside, if you thumbs this guide down, you are a terrorist and you will be brought to justice.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

* Good amount of magic damage

Cons:

* Extremely squishy (low amount of hp)
* Weak lane phase
* Must play defensively
* Focused in team fights
* Very mana dependent early game
* Must focus on either farming or harassing (early game)
* Useless while skills are on cool-down
* Magic Resist counters Veigar's burst well
* Banshee's Veil also counters well
* CC / Silence ruins Veigar's fun

"Dang, Cheatx. That's a lot of cons for Veigar, why do you even play him?" - Gilbert Pham
Because I like a challenge dammit.

Runes

Core Runes:

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power

These are standard AP caster runes. Nothing fancy, nothing fishy.

Many people look at this guide and say:

"Hey Cheatx, why you so knob, you no get Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration like PsiGuard build?" -iamjord

After the Veigar remake, they significantly cut the costs for his Baleful Strike, along with all his other abilities, allowing him to harass and farm better, reducing the need for those mana regeneration runes.

Also, Greater Quintessence of Scaling Ability Power runes only give 2.74 extra AP over Greater Quintessence of Ability Power at level 18. That's only a total of 8 Baleful Strike farms. I'd rather have a stronger early game to counter Veigar's weak lane phase.

Masteries

This is a Standard 21/0/9 AP Caster Mastery Build.

To help with Veigar's slight early game mana problems, (and since we did not get Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration) we have maxed out Meditation . In addition, we have put a point into Runic Affinity (hopefully your jungler will give you blue buff).

I also have added 1 point into Summoner's Insight . Why? Because I have teleport as a summoner skill!

Items

Items are situational! To become a solid League of Legends player, you need to pay attention to who your opponents are, and what they can do. If you notice your enemies rushing magic resistance e.g. Negatron Cloak then you probably want to finish your Sorcerer's Shoes a little earlier. Building optimally will give your team a huge advantage, so make sure you exploit it the best you can!

Main Build:

Deathfire Grasp: This is one of the main parts of Veigar's burst. This will deal 65% of an enemy's health in magic game late game (when you have 1000+ AP, which you will easily reach with this build)
Rabadon's Deathcap: This is probably one of the best items for casters, and should never be left out any AP build.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Some people are getting Ionian Boots of Lucidity. However, you really need the magic penetration over cooldown reduction for your burst to do the most damage.
Void Staff: Void Staff is great late gate because of the 40% magic penetration.
Archangel's Staff: This will help your little Veigar achieve the high levels of AP you wish to seek.
Banshee's Veil: This late in the game, your going to probably need a little health and defense for your little guy.

Other Solid Items:

Haunting Guise: Great for early game magic penetration.
Zhonya's Hourglass: This hourglass will give you a solid 100AP, 50 armor, and a cute active that will shield you for 2 seconds.
Abyssal Mask: Good against heavy AP teams.
rod of ages size: Good for that extra mana, AP and health. (Make sure to rush this first if you get it)
Morello's Evil Tome: Relatively cheap source of AP, also reduces cool downs by 20%!
Will of the Ancients: Great for spell vamp, especially if you also have other AP teammates who need it.
Quicksilver Sash: Free get out of jail card.

Ehh Items:

Lich Bane: You are a burst hero, and to maximize the use of Lich Bane you would need to stop and normal attack after every ability, hindering your combo.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: You do not need the slow unique active from this item, as you are a one burst wonder hero. If you need more HP, I would go with Rod of Ages

Other Notes:

If you need some more HP early game, start off with 1 or even 2 Doran's Ring.

Remember this is a high output burst build. If you feel comfortable, you can sneak in Mejai's Soulstealer in your build for some cheap, early game AP. Do remember though that Veigar is extremely squishy, and holding on to your stacks may prove difficult if you are going against a decent team.

Also note that the item build order is not set in stone. Like I said before, you want to build accordint to how you are doing, and what your opponents are doing. e.g. If you are facing a flash stunning burst hero such as Annie, then you might want to work on your Banshee's Veil first.

Landing Your Sh!t

After level 6, your burst skill sequence should look like this:

E Event Horizon
W Dark Matter
1 Deathfire Grasp (move Deathfire to first slot)
R Primordial Burst
Q Baleful Strike

Remember to use your Deathfire Grasp after you cast Dark Matter, but before it hits them. Your Deathfire Grasp does a % of current HP, so it will do more damage when they have more HP.

If they have Banshee's Veil, use your Baleful Strike to pop it first, and then follow with your usual combo.

This goes the same for heroes with magic shields, such as: Morgana Sivir Nocturne

This is a lot of buttons to smash trying to complete your skill combo. Keep practicing until you get the hang of your combo. Remember to drop your Dark Matter as soon as you place your stun, or you will usually miss your target.

I personally do not use Smart Casting, but many people find it much easier to land these combos while using Smart Cast. Try it out, but if it's not for you, don't sweat it because it won't make or break your game.

Game Play

Now that you know your skill sequence, how do you play Veigar? Veigar by nature is a very squishy hero, and is targeted right away if the opposing team knows what they are doing. When you are laning, (especially mid), try and play extremly passively, focusing all your energy farming your Baleful Strike which gives permanent AP every kill.

You want to request to solo mid because you will be the AP carry. AP casters (Magic heroes) rely mainly on leveling to increase their damage output. On the other hand, AD carries (Attack damage heroes) rely mainly on their items, which they can still farm in the side lane (As long as stupid Soraka doesn't keep using Starfall). However, don't be distraught if you are forced into the side lanes. Just keep last hitting using your Baleful Strike and hope for the best.

Usually, in mid lane, you will get a semi-squishy opponent, such as Brand, Lux, Ryze etc.. Take advantage of this. Harrass them with Baleful Strike and if the enemy is being really aggressive, drop an Event Horizon and Dark Matter on them. At around level 5 try to Baleful Strike or combo him/her down to around half HP.

Once you hit level 6 one of two things will occur; He/she will leave, so continue farming up your Baleful Strike or go to a side lane to gank. However, if your opponent stays, this is where the fun begins. Make sure you have at least 350 mana for your full combo. If necessary, use flash to limit the distance between your opponent, and drop them with all of your mighty spells!(Or the third option is that your opponent calls for a gank and then you get f***ed)

If you are getting out-laned then request ganks, play passively, try to get blue buff (so you can spam your skills), or change into a defensive build for the time being ( Doran's Ring, Banshee's Veil, Quicksilver Sash, or Health Potion ) Try your best not to lose your lane!

Summoner Spells

Main Summoner Spells:
Teleport - This is a great skill for map control and ganks. Also, if I am getting harrassed too much, I walk back to the tower, recall, buy my items and boom I'm back in action and I didn't even miss a single minion. Also if your teammates are warding properly, you can teleport to those wards and surprise! It's a Primordial Burst in your face!
Flash - Great skill to jump over walls to chase/run away. Also great for a surprise burst. Flash in, Event Horizon down, and finish your combo for an easy kill.

SPACE

Other Viable Choices:

Ignite size - Great for finishing off an opponent with very little hp. Especially useful early game. Late game not as much.
Ghost size=32 - Good for catching up to enemies, or just running away.

SPACE

New To The Game Picks:

Exhaust: No need to exhaust when you can just stun.
Cleanse: Get out of a cc maybe?
Clairvoyance: Leave this spell to your support and tanks.
Clarity: With my item build, you are going to have plenty of mana. This will only be useful early game at best.

SPACE (They took out some of these skills :( )

Great Troll Picks:

Rally: Good if you like bacon, I mean beacons.
Fortify: Good if you are an architect and care about buildings.
Revive: Look how fast I can run!
Smite: Wow this summoner spell does so much damage! Everyone should use this!
Heal: Don't judge me, I'm afraid of ghosts!
Promote: Minions on steroids!
Garrison: This is actually really good on Dominion.

Summary

So apparently is not a viable pick for high level ELO. We need to change this! With your guys' help, we can bring Veigar into the summoner scene!

P.S. I will add more pictures and details to this guide VERY SOON. Also I will post a sequence of ranked Veigar games, just like all the other guides 'proving' that their guide works.

(Wow! Look! This guide must work!)
SPACE

Okay fine, in all cereal-ness, here are some normal games I played after making the guide:SPACE
(I forgot I was making a Veigar sequence for you guys and played Vayne LOL)
