Introduction

Wukong

Wukong, the Monkey King, is a great champion for both solo top and lane. His Nimbus Strike hability is good to farm minions, as well as harrass enemy champions.
In this guide I want to show how to build a Wukong for various situations, and shows how I like to play this champion.

Specific words:
AD- Attack Damage
AP- Ability Power
CC- Crowd Control

Runes

For runes, I use nine Greater Mark of Desolation, nine Greater Seal of Armor, nine Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist and three Greater Quintessence of Desolation.
If you want to be able to use your abilities more often then get nine Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction but with Ionian Boots of Lucidity and Youmuu's Ghostblade I don't think they're really necessary.
I use this set of runes because it alows Wukong to have good damage while having some defense as well. Since my main set of items is mainly offensive items, he'll need some magic resist late game needing the kind of seals I chose.

Masteries

I went with 22/0/8 because Wukong will need the cooldown reduction masteries+attack speed+the remaining AD masteries. The support masteries come in on the bonus exp and and the health and mana regen.

Items

My items are pretty offensive. This item built is meant to be used if the game is going really good.
  • Doran's Blade is a good starting item due to its bonus health, damage and lifesteal. However if look at the enemy team and you see that you won't be able to maintain the lane, than instead of that blade buy Boots and 2 health pots and 1 mana pot.
  • Phage comes next due to its slow and its ramifications ( Frozen Mallet and Trinity Force).
  • Ionian Boots of Lucidity for that awesome cooldown reduction.
  • Trinity Force will come from Phage and it is just down awesome. Bonus health, mana, AD, Mana, attack speed, critical and AP. Great for Wukong.
  • Youmuu's Ghostblade comes with bonus AD, critical and cooldown reduction. Plus, its active gives movement speed and attack speed, great for chases and just regular pownage.
  • Zeke's Harbinger comes next for that essential lifesteal that sometimes can save you in teamfights and awesome attack speed.
Than comes the items that can turn the game around. If before you were doing well, getting a few kills or assists, now is the time where you can just go into the middle of teamfights with the ultimate and kill everybody. And I'm seriously serious!
  • Black Cleaver ,will give you bonus damage and armor penetration, and together with your masteries, runes and first skill, usually it is just to much for an enemy champion to handle.
  • Infinity Edge is just for that stupidly big damage with plus 80 AD and 250% crit damage.

If the game is not going as expected, than buy Frozen Mallet from Phage instead of Trinity Force and buy Atma's Impaler. That way Wukong should be pretty stiff, while doing some good damage.
    Now for the situational items.
If the game is going really bad you should look where you're getting beat. If they have AP OP champs like Annie or Karthus than you should buy Banshee's Veil. It'll give you boost hp and mana while giving you the bubble. Best anti-ap item ever!
Now if you're getting beat by AD champions like Tryndamere or Master Yi, buy either a Thornmail due to it's passive ability, or Sunfire Aegis, due to its bonus health, armor and passive. However if you're going down because the enemy has a crazy amount of CC than buy a Quicksilver Sash.
If you really need to go against a tanky champion, then buy a Madred's Bloodrazor.
Now, if you prefer to roam with Wukong I recommend getting Mobility Boots. It'll give you great speed outside of battles, allowing you to go quickly from on lane to another either to defend or to gank.

Explanation of the Abilities

Stone Skin - Gives up 4/6/8 bonus armor and magic resist for each enemy champion. May not seem like a lot but in teamfights late game where you have 5 people in there, it'll give you bonus 40 armor and magic resist, which in my opinion is fairly good.

Crushing Blow - Wukong 's next attack will deal bonus 30/60/90/120/150 additional physical damage, reducing the target's armor by 30% for 3 seconds. This with combined with your masteries, runes, and late game items, will allow you to crush through the enemy's armor.

Cooldown: 9/8/7/6/5 seconds.
Cost: 40 mana

Decoy - Wukong becomes stealthed for 1.5 seconds, creating an immobilized clone, who'll deal 70/115/160/205/250 magic damage (plus 60% of his AP) after those 1,5 seconds. It's a great skill both for escaping and for ganking. For the last, just use it in the grass, use those 1.5 seconds to get to the enemy champion and smash him with the Q/E combo.
It can also be used to drain enemy skills like Ignite.

Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 mana

Nimbus Strike - Wukong dashes towards the enemy, creating images that'll attack up to 2 additional enemies near his target, dealing 70/115/160/205/250 (+ 0,8 per bonus attack damage) physical damage. After the dash, Wukong gets bonus 20/25/30/35/40% attack speed for 3 seconds. Great to get near a target you're chasing. It'll also gives bonus damage if you use this right after you use Crushing Blow.

Cooldown: 8 seconds
Cost: 45/50/55/60/65 mana

Cyclone: Wukong 's ultimate. Wukong 's staff grows outward and he spins around up to 4 seconds, dealing 20/100/200 (with bonus 1.0 per attack damage) damage every second and knocking the enemies once per cast. Additionally, Wukong gains bonus 5% movement speed for each second he is spinning, losing that bonus when he stops. Great ability both for teamfights and 1 vs 2(if they're both squishy). It can turn a teamfight around with knocking the enemies. Can combo very well with champions with AoE burst damage like Talon's ultimate.

Cooldown: 120/105/90
Cost: 100 mana

Summoner Spells

My personal favourite spells for Wukong are Ghost and Flash. However there are other good spells for Wukong but it depends on your game style.

Flash it's a mandatory spell! With this you can easily escape from a gank or if you get low on life. It is also good for chasing and counter-flash.

Ghost is also a good evasive spell and chasing. IMO Wukong needs this spell for chasing and to go fast from one lane to another.

Exhaust is good option if you don't like ghost. Good both for chases and escapes as you can slow a chaser. However it is not good against a gank as you can only slow one of the opponents.

Teleport is good spell if you want to get to different lanes fast. IMO it's only good for defense or for an occasional rush. Not bad but not for multiuse like Ghost.

Ignite is a good finisher and in teamfights can prevent a champion like Vladimir or Warwick from recovering as much HP as they would.

Heal might be good early game but after you get maxed out with the awesome damage and lifesteal it'll become pretty much useless.

Clarity almost same as above. You won't be that mana hungry at the end of the game.

Revive is not even worth looking at. The objective of the game is to stay alive. If you want an extra life get a Zilean on your team or buy a Guardian Angel.

Smite is one of thos spells that IMO are jungler only. Wukong might work as a jungler, however I haven't figured out how to get a sustainable jungling route or anything about Wukong jungler but it's a future possibility. It's in stand-by for now.

Cleanse is a good anti-cc spell. If you wanna be ready against CC go with it but I'd recommend getting a Quicksilver Sash instead.

Fortify is a spell that is not commonly used but it is not for Wukong. Leave this spell for your Tank's spells or your Supporter's spells.

is IMO a worthless spell. I don't think you should take it.

Clairvoyance is definetely a good spell but leave to your team's supporter.

Pros / Cons

Pros:

Wukong is a Jack of All Trades, and can be built to adapt to almost every situation being able to solo top, lane, to attack with AD, AP, build it sort of tanky, and perhaps jungle. Never tried to do it jungle but it can work but I can't guarantee it.
Wukong is great with team fights due to its passive and it's ultimate. Just jump in there use first skill, third and then ulti. You got yourself a won teambattle and you're ready to push.
You can escape ganks with ease due to Wukong 's Warrior Trickster, and my usual summoner spells.
He is also a great chaser.

Cons:
If ganked and hit with a slow or stun, you're pretty much toast.
Silence is this champions worst nightmare because his abilities belong to its core damage.
Lack of CC. His only CC is the ulti and even though it is pretty OP, still lacks the general CC like slow and stun.
He is not the easiest champion to play with but it's not that hard either. It just requires patience.
In teamfights he is targeted a lot so you better watch out for that.

Early Game

Just start by farming as much as possible like you'd do with any other champion. A good farm means a big probability of having a good score and a win.
Start by getting the Doran's Blade and farming with the 3rd skill.
At level 7 (end of early game) you should have a Doran's Blade, Boots and Phage.

Mid Game

At this point you should continue to focus on farming and if you can, grab a kill and maybe roam a little to gank with your amazing ultimate. Don't forget to use Warrior Trickster on the bushes for a better gank.
At this point you should see how the game is going and do the rest of your build from there. It's at level 8-10 that you should decide if you'll morph that Phage into a Trinity Force or a Frozen Mallet.
At level 12-13 (end of mid game) you should have Doran's Blade, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Trinity Force ( or Frozen Mallet). If you're well farmed and with a few kills or assists you should already have or be going for Youmuu's Ghostblade with The Brutalizer.

Late Game

At this point you should be alreay set fot the kills and push. If your team scores and ace and you need to push really bad and your ulti hasn't been used, then use it for minion killing and push. It may sound ridiculous but it does work and you can push relly fast.
As for the rest of the items, read the item section so that you can see the item possibilities for various situations.
And the rest is GG.

Team Work

Like I said before, in team fights just use your Ultimate and that'll give a huge advantage to your team.
If you are double laning, than you should try to lane with either an AD long range champion (because of your first skill that lowers the enemy's armor), a CC champion like, Leona or Twisted Fate, or a regular support for extra health and help on the minion farm.

Laning Partners

Ex. of good laning partners:
Alistar
Amumu
Blitzcrank
Caitlyn
Corki (but if you have him on your team tell him to go mid. Great AD carry)
Fiddlesticks
Galio
Janna
Kayle
Leona
Lux
Miss Fortune
Nunu & Willump
Rammus
Shen
Sona
Soraka
Taric
Teemo (his blind his amazing!)
Twisted Fate (AP)
Twitch
Vayne
Zilean (great speed buff and Guardian Angel ultimate)

Enemy nightmares

Tryndamere: Just right down OP. You can easily take him on early game, but if he is farmed and has ultimate you're pretty much screwed. try to take him down little by little by harrasing with the 3rd skill until he uses his ulti and uses bloodlust. Afterwards use Ghost and Flash to catch up to him and use the 3-1 combo if he is still out of reach for normal attacks.

Master Yi: Another AD burst champion. For this one, i suggest a fast kill so that he doesnt run away with his ulti.

Annie: Just an OP AP champion. If you see one RUN THE HELL AWAY!!! However if you can get her to waste her stun spell on the clone and you she doesn't have her ultimate just go for it.

Kog'Maw and Urgot:
Super big range. Try to flank them with a team mate from the bush and kill them.

CC Champions: Quicksilver Sash or Banshee's Veil with bubble.

Tanks: Take to much time to kill. Your team must have an tank destroyer like Vayne or Attack Speed Kog'Maw.

Karthus:
He is just annoying with his bombs and his ulti is devastating. If you go against one grab a Banshee's Veil. His ultimate his OP.

Mordekaiser:
The most OP champ in the game IMO. I love to play with it but not against it. Just get a Quicksilver Sash because besides taking out CC it also takes out Mordekaiser 's ultimate. It's pretty damn good and he'll be one sad Morde.

Final notes and Extras

This is my build for Wukong, the Monkey King. This is my first build ever and I hope you guys like it. If you have any doubts or suggestions PM me here on Mobafire and I'll try to get back to you.
The big core of this build was taught to me by a LoL player called ILBio and I adapted it to my way of playing. Before he taught it to me I was a really bad Wukong player so props to him.
I'll add later content with scores I had with this build and a video of me playing and explaining in detail this build... If I have time.
As for now, good luck and have fun with your games summoners.

*Change Log*

12/09/2011- I changed my masteries. It's better to take out that magic pen masterie point and put it on Exp gaining.
