[color=#ffff00]Things to understand before I review[/color] 1) I will review with the current meta in mind. 2) I'm only looking to review AD, AP or support guides, as they are what I'm more experienced with, and I believe you should review for what you're experienced with instead of just everything that's thrown your way. 3) If you would really like me to, I can certainly look over your top lane or jungler guide for non-content topics, but neither is my forte. 4) I do not believe in "match up"-type sections, and if your guide has an extensive match up section, I will probably not comment much on it. I believe match ups are very environment, situational, and also heavily based on personal experience. A jungler, in example, can help a lane that "should be" losing win. 5) As this is for peer review and improvement, I might not vote on your guide! [/quote] Here's your review! [spoiler]Beep boop weekend warrior reviewer dropping by. At the beginning of the guide, you write off [[Shyvana]]'s ganks as being bad - "the worst" even. Her red buff ganks are actually very threatening. Early [[Burnout]] damage coupled with some magic pen actually does quite a lot of damage. She can even instantly get 3 ticks of [[Crest of the Ancient Lizard]] using [[Twin Bite]]'s autoattack reset. When you are purple team, the enemy blue lane top laner can easily be zoned away from the middle of the lane by the mere threat/thought of your level 2 red buff gank when you are packing [[Exhaust]]. Saying her ganks are weak is quite misleading to readers, and I assume you are only saying it because of your build - you take [[Flash]] and your guide focuses on "being a jungle thief". However, if you are jungling as [[Shyvana]] [i]period[/i], then you are more than likely available to counterjungling anyway. Are you not getting a [[Wriggle's Lantern]]? Are you not maxing [[Burnout]] first? Can you not steal camps while another jungler is ganking a lane without using these runes/masteries/items? Overall, I don't see the difference between "Playing [[Shyvana]] as a jungler" and "Playing [[Shyvana]] as a jungle [i]thief[/i]". Let's talk about your build. [[Shyvana]]'s damage is primarily magic supplemented by autoattacks, not the other way around. And unless you're going to have 10 [[Bloodthirster]]s by mid game, there's not much point in maxing [[Twin Bite]] second. Your core items don't even include much AD outside of [[Wriggle's Lantern]] to amplify the higher % on [[Twin Bite]]. You have the functionality of the double attack and the autoattack reset from level 1 - 5. There's always the cooldown you get by leveling it further, but if you were using [[Greater Mark of Alacrity]] you would be more efficient at autoattacking to shorten the cooldown on [[Twin Bite]]. I do realize that TheOddOne's guide on SoloMid's website says Q over E, but he hasn't updated his guide in over 180 days. If you watch his stream, he has actually switched to maxing E before Q due to the damage. [[Twin Bite]]'s second attack damage goes from 80% to 100%, whereas [[Flame Breath]]'s base damage goes from 80 to 260. Will your [[Twin Bite]]'s damage increase by 180 if you max it 2nd? Next, your core items. How does [[Heart of Gold]] give you extra income? It's an investment and it takes 25mins to pay itself off. After those 25mins have gone by, it will actually start giving you gold. You also completely ignore [[Randuin's Omen]] too despite listing it here. We should build it just because? You also don't really make an argument for [[Trinity Force]]. Since you even start off the description by saying she has zero CC, you kind of make it sound unfavorable to even pick up a [[Trinity Force]] since [[Frozen Mallet]] will slow 100% of the time. And about [[Wit's End]]; do you build it 100% of the time? Even versus teams with less AP damage? In general, as a jungler, [[Shyvana]] won't exactly have the money to casually buy mid game items like [[Black Cleaver]] or [[Youmuu's Ghostblade]] or [[Trinity Force]]. Items that give both defensive and offensive properties are generally good on these types of characters for mid game. As such, it's sad to see a highly cost effective item like [[Aegis of the Legion]] (which is very affordable and practical for a jungler - especially a mana-less one who isn't going to build her own [[Shurelya's Reverie]] not being considered a close-to-core item and being grouped beneath items I wouldn't consider remotely viable due to cost and question of practicality like [[Madred's Bloodrazor]] and [[Phantom Dancer]]. And despite what you say, [[Aegis of the Legion]] will stack twice for both aura-holders, making it perfectly acceptable to take on any 2 of a support/jungler/top laner. Your list and high spread of choice items shows that you aren't really sure how to effectively use your item slots. Are these items that you just build for fun? Or are these items that you would "seriously" build in a game whether it be ranked or normal? As you did ask for "viability" in your review request, I will say that [[Bloodthirster]] seems viable for somewhat serious normal games and lower brackets of ELO, but I can't see it being very viable at higher brackets of ELO. You can safely scrap items like [[Youmuu's Ghostblade]], [[Black Cleaver]], [[Infinity Edge]], etc, and nothing of value will have been lost. I don't really mind [[Ionic Spark]] on her personally, but it's odd you clearly don't want to recommend it but included it in the list of damage items even though you have a list of "Do Not Buy" items later. And indeed, [[Shyvana]] doesn't have mana. There is no point in building or recommending [[Frozen Heart]] here. If you consider your core items boots 2, [[Wriggle's Lantern]], [[Frozen Mallet]], [[Wit's End]], and [[Randuin's Omen]], this means you think it's acceptable to use your final item slot on [[Frozen Heart]] even though you already consider [[Randuin's Omen]] core. (And [[Randuin's Omen]] is the better aspd reduction item on her.) I also see that you mentioned how health is effective on her due to her free resistances when talking about [[Warmog's Armor]], but don't when mentioning the core item, [[Frozen Mallet]]. Maybe you did that on purpose as you seem to prefer [[Trinity Force]] on her and mentioning that would make [[Frozen Mallet]] look better? I'm not even gonna get into the match ups and stuff as matchups in general are highly environmental, situational, and based on personal experience. (I really dislike the idea of going into great depth about them in a guide.) I'm also not going to get into the routes part, as jungling is not my forte. I will note 2 things though. 1) In your starting item section, you said that [[Cloth Armor]] was "only for beginners". I would think that a [[Cloth Armor]] start could/would improve your ability to jungle duel versus strong/hard duelists. 2) It would be nice to include general info about how to detect invades @ level 1. It's even easier than warding. The most common way to spot invasions is to buy really quick then run down mid lane. The reason why this works is because many enemy teams will try to invade by buying quickly and going through the side bushes in mid lane. Btw, speaking of your item starting items, [[Doran's Blade]] is not the best starting item for a level 2 gank. It can be an okay early pick up item if you get first blood or something, but starting item? Also, one of all of my ~2~ rules = Don't have a Doran's item as a starting item. :p I'm not even sure why you included it as you don't seem to like it anyway. Admittedly I don't have that much experience with Kayle (especially hybrid and jungle Kayle), but your AD build seems a-okay with me. You also make very good suggestions like saying to build based on the enemy team, to take wolves or double golems if your lane is pushed, and to play as a team. My biggest problem with your guide is the presentation aspect of it. There's tons of inconsistency in how it's formatted. For example, in your "Skills" section, your passive, Q and W are left aligned, while the rest of the section is center aligned. You also have inconsistent spacing between lines. Sometimes the next paragraph begins with a one line break, and other times it's a several line break. Here are a few other examples: http://puu.sh/19KN6 - Your pros and cons are not aligned correctly. http://puu.sh/19KOg - You have random [/i] tags in a few of your matchups. http://puu.sh/19KP3 - Another area where your sections do not align properly. http://puu.sh/19KVp http://puu.sh/19KWN - Some items are larger than others for no apparent reason. http://puu.sh/19KY0 - Typo on the item. http://puu.sh/19KPX - Seemingly random use of coloring text. This list isn't exhaustive, so there may/probably are other areas that could be improved. I would suggest reading over your guide and paying particular attention to similar things.
