Introduction
I started playing League since mid Season 1. Apparently, believe it or not. I was Bronze in Season 2 - 4. Why? Because when I hit level 30. I started playing ranked. I was not good at the time so I ended up in Bronze ELO and I haven't been able to climb that up. Then at Pre-season of Season 3, I went up in Youtube and saw Ryan Choi's Rengar. I thought that that was cool so I decided to try his build and was able to master it. At Season 4, Rengar became my main and i became good at him. I played him AD or AP or Tanker. Able to climb to Gold at Season 4 and Plat IV this Season 5 but I decided to play more rank this preseason and was able to reach Diamond V. English is not my native language so buckle in.
/// Rengar is an assassin. As all of the assassins. Your main role is to assassinate the ADCs or APCs during teamfights. Using your ultimate, Rengar can hunt those targets. By using the combos, your target should be killed by 1 shot. Rengar doesn't have mana but he has Ferocity. Whenever Rengar uses his abilities, he gains 1 stack of ferocity. At 5 stacks, his next ability will have a bonus effect. But if you think Rengar is easy. Then think again. Rengar has many mechanics like Bush Jumping, Q > Hydra > Q and using Battle Roar and Bola Strike mid-air and flashing into bush range to leap. |
Pros
|
+ Can 1 shot + Deals a lot of damage + Great passive + Great ganking abilities |
Cons
|
+ Hard to master + Vision Wards counter him + No real escape ability + If fell behind, hard to come back |
Runes
Greater Mark of Critical Chance : I am one of those people that get this for 1% crit chance. Who knows, a lucky crit makes a difference in a fight.
greater mark of armor penetration : If armor penetration is more of your jam and think that you don't need attack damage, take this.
Greater Seal of Armor : You're mostly gonna face AD champs in the top lane so armor is the best to go.
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist : Gives you magic resist that helps when you're facing with an AP champion or just the enemy you're laning with deals magic damage in some way.
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction : Gives you 5% cooldown reduction that benefits us in the early and mid game.
greater quintessence of armor penetration : Gives you a little bit of armor penetration to shred through the enemies' armor.
Greater Quintessence of Cooldown Reduction : Gives you some cooldown reduction, If you're getting this, get 1 or 2.
Ferocity
Feast : Helps in the laning phase as it gives you good sustain and can make crazy plays by killing a minion when you're about to die to heal yourself.
Natural Talent : Gives you AD and AP that helps. Even though its a small amount, it will surely help you.
Bounty Hunter : Deal more damage as you kill enemy champions.
Cunning
Assassin : You'll be alone in the top lane so the increased damage will help you.
Merciless : I take this because the other one is useless because we don't have mana but this also helps in executing low enemy champions.
Dangerous Game : Low on health and Ignited but also Ignited the enemy? Boom, you kill them and you get back hp and was able to live.
Precision : Gives you a nice bonus of armor and magic penetration.
Intelligence : 2% cdr for 10% cdr at the start of the game.
Thunderlord's Decree : This is like everyone's favorite mastery including me. This is like broken because it deals a lot of damage and with Rengar's harass, it will deal a lot of damage with this mastery.
Unseen Predator
// When Rengar is in a bush, his attack will make him leap to the target
// This is the reason why players hate playing with Rengar. When you are trying to escape from Rengar in the jungle. Just pray he doesn't know to go into the bush and jump. You can also use this to zone your enemy in the lane.
Savagery
// His next attack deals bonus damage
// This is the ability you're going to always use. This is like the main tool for killing of Rengar. So basically, it just empowers your next attack and deals a bonus physical damage. But wait, it can crit! Yes, it crits but not the bonus physical damage. That's why we buy Critical Chance items. If you saw the damage in the ability, you may think that it's not that much but if you use it on an ADC, it takes like 30% of their health.
Empowered Savagery
// Rengar's next attack deal bonus damage and grants bonus attack speed and damage.
// This is like the same one but it deals more damage and grants you bonus attack speed and attack damage. Both skills also resets your auto attack timer so use it wisely. This hurts as hell if you use it right.
Battle Roar
// Rengar roars dealing damage and grants armor and magic resist
// If you're not playing AP Rengar then this skill won't do much. But it sure would be helpful for it gives you armor and magic resist. Overall, this is not that good on AD Rengar but it helps in getting more ferocity stacks.
Empowered Battle Roar
// Rengar roars dealing damage, healing him, and granting armor and magic resist.
// Also the same but it heals you and deals more damage. The heal increases based on missing health. The armor and magic resist you get is also doubled so more defense! You can use this to bait enemies that think you're gonna die but at the end, you're gonna heal and kill them.
Bola Strike
// Throws a bola in a direction slowing the target.
// This will be one of your skills you're gonna use in your combo. It can also be used to kill minions when you're facing someone like Darius or Jax. It also slows the target hit so you can use it to slow enemies you're chasing someone or when you're escaping
Empowered Bola Strike
// Throws a bola that roots the enemy
// Same skill but deals more damage and roots them. It is really useful when ganking, escaping or chasing the enemies. Using this skill right can sure-kill someone. Overall, good skill for chasing or escaping.
Thrill of the Hunt
// Rengar goes invisible. His next attack will cause him to leap to the target.
// This is like one of the best ultimates in the game. Catch anyone who are wandering alone and they're dead. The only downside is they see a "!" icon above their head when you're near and pink wards. Most dangerous is when they put a pink ward down on a teamfight then you're surely dead. Great skill for ganking other lanes. Can be also used to escape but not recommended because it will takes 3 seconds to go invisible when taking damage.
Items
Item Sequence
Starting Items
Good item for a safe start. Gives you HP and Damage and lifesteal for sustain. Overall, best item for the laning phase because it's balanced. |
Very safe start. If you're facing someone that deals a lot of physical damage like Riven and Zed. You can start with this and 4 Health Potions but Doran's Blade is better and this is optional |
If you're very confident in your skills and comfortable that you can easily face with someone. You can take this. It gives you AD and 3 Health Potions in the go. |
Gives you health and blocks some damage on enemy basic attacks. Great with champions that uses auto attacks. |
Rush Items
Items
Gives you a nice 10% cooldown reduction that reduces our skill's cooldown. |
Gives you 10% cooldown reduction and armor penetration which is good for Rengar. The active also helps when using Thrill of the Hunt or when dueling someone |
This is one of the items that is essential for Rengar. This is the tool you'll need for your combo and harass. Don't build it to Ravenous Hydra just yet because we only need the active until we get the Youmuu's Ghostblade. |
Core Items
Items
After building Youmuu's Ghostblade, rush this. The damage, lifesteal and the active will help you 1 shot people and have more sustain. |
This gives you 20% more critical chance so after building this, you'll have about 50% crit chance and may be lucky to crit your Empowered Savagery on the enemy. It also increases your critical strike's damage. |
Critical Chance Items
Items
After 100 stacks, your next attack deals bonus damage, and even more damage when it crits. This is my best choice for crit chance for it gives a boost of movement speed and the damage is higher than Rapid Firecannon. |
A little bit same with stattik shiv but the damage with this one is a little bit lower with the first one. |
This item gives you a nice boost of attack speed and critical chance. But what we need here most is the crit chance and the nice movement speed that it gives. It helps your Savagery crit and helps you chase enemies who are able to Flash away. |
After Boots Item
Items
|
Bonus armor penetration. Mortal reminder for healers like Swain or Soraka. Lord Dominik's Regards for tanks with high hp. |
Gives a nice amount of health and armor and also movement speed. Makes you more tanky and the passive is also great. |
To die and live again to tell the tale. |
Empowers your next attack that fits your Savagery perfectly. It also gives nice stats like movement speed, damage, and the cooldown reduction. |
Best spell to take on anyone. Helps you escape, chase ,juke and do anything with this spell. Can also be used in making big plays for Rengar like Flashing on a bush and jumping on the enemy. Rating: 10/10 |
Helps you respond on bot lane fights and get back in lane easily after recalling. Rating: 9/10 |
Helps you finish off enemies that are able to escape and render their healing 50% useless but I prefer Executioner's Calling whenever facing Swain or Dr. Mundo. Rating: 8/10 |
Helps you escape and chase like Flash but won't be much helpful in the game cause slows can still happen and render this spell useless. Rating: 2/10 |
For Jungle Rengar only Rating: 0/10 for Laning Rating: 10/10 for Jungling. |
Helps you fight enemies that deal a lot of damage or prevent the enemy from escaping or just trying to escape. Rating: 6/10 |
Laning Phase
So if you're playing on top, what you're obviously gonna do is pull the minions near the bushes. Do this by going on the 2 bush on the top lane and whenever the minions come out, jump on them with Savagery to pull them near the bush and to get 1 stack. Do this to zone away enemies that will try to farm. Whenever they try to farm, jump with a basic attack and use Savagery on them to reset the auto attack timer and to get another stack. If not, just use it on a dying minion. Whenever you reach 5 stacks, try to harass them with basic attack + Empowered Savagery or Empowered Battle Roar if you took some damage. However this will only work on champions you can trade with, not with champions like Jax or Darius because they hurt like hell. If you are laned against them, just tower hug and wait for your jungler to gank
Mid Game
Try to gank other lanes when you reach 6 but try to farm yourself up in top lane and build Youmuu's Ghostblade and Ravenous Hydra and try to reach level 11. If you're winning in lane, try to hunt their ADC and if not just ask for your jungler to gank or gank mid or bot. Try to feed yourself up for the late game.
Late Game
If they didn't surrender yet, then try to group together. Try to hunt lone wanderers in the jungle but if they are doing the same, then stick with your team. Whenever you are on a teamfight, try to target the ADC's in the back but if they place down Vision Wards, then you are f*cked. Try not to get kited or be pulled by Thresh or Blitzcrank when leaping on the enemy ADC.
Combos
Harass
Unseen Predator > Basic Attack > Empowered Savagery > Tiamat > Savagery.
Ganking enemies with escapes
Thrill of the Hunt > Empowered Bola Strike (Mid Air) > Savagery > Ravenous Hydra > Battle Roar (if not near the target when jumping) > Bola Strike then kill the enemy.
Assassination
Thrill of the Hunt > Empowered Savagery > Bola Strike (mid air) > Battle Roar (mid air) > Ravenous Hydra > Savagery (use hydra to reset auto attack timer)
