Draven's extremely high damage output can take down Sona fairly quickly if you aren't careful. His ult can also chunk more than half of your health if you are hit twice. Good Dravens will absolutely dominate you with no remorse and will not stop unless you're behind your whole team.
Blitzcrank
If you're grabbed, you're almost guaranteed to be dead. The Q+E combo gives mid-game adcs plenty of time to rip you to shreads. The best way to avoid this is to strafe and hide behind your minions.
Janna
Watch out for her Q, but other than that, Janna has no real way to keep you from poking her and her adc. If you catch her alone, use it as an opportunity to poke her health down as much as you can before her adc returns. If you can separate the adc and the support, you will win botlane easily.
Nautilus
Nautilus is making a comeback in the botlane. His hook isn't nearly as devastating as blitz's, but still someone to be wary of.
Caitlyn
Her Q is a great counter-poke that is hard to dodge. Strafe side to side and don't get hit too many times.
Urgot
Well, it's Urgot...
Ezreal
I have the same advise as Caitlyn: dodge the pokes and keep moving. Once you have all your move speed items, this won't be as difficult.
Thresh
See Blitzcrank. Pulls aren't as devastating.
Vayne
Abuse her short range and poke her out of lane.
Alistar
If you're out of position, it could very well mean death if his adc has enough damage to back up his seemingly never ending cc.
Ashe
Her slows can be a major problem if you try to run away midgame. Try to poke her, but don't go too out of your way to do so.
Bard
Your poke well outdamages his heals. He will keep using mana to heal and have no mana to try to land his feeble cc. Bard tries to be Sona in some ways, but is not nearly as good because of his glaring mana problems.
Braum
Braum may or may not be a problem depending on his adc. He's only a concern if his adc has a lot of base attack speed like Twitch or Jinx, or if it's Lucian who can proc his passive twice within short succession.
Corki
Watch out for his burst. If he's still in lane with his triforce, watch out big time. Poke him out of lane early but don't let him poke you back. His Q does a lot of damage.
Graves
Graves has some burst, but needs cc in order to follow up with AAs. Watch out if he's with Alistar, Thresh, Braum or Blitz.
Jinx
Similar to Graves, if she's paired with cc, she can get early kills easily.
Kalista
If she doesn't have a hooking support (Thresh, Blitz, Naut), feel free to poke away. She can't easily out-trade you since she relies on extended skirmishes to win trades.
Karma
One of the few supports that can out-poke you. Be cautious when going in to poke.
Leona
CC for days, but odds are she's going to go onto your adc. If that happens, use your combo on their adc and try to save yours in any way you can. It's a hard matchup regardless.
Lucian
Lucian has a lot of poke for an adc. Constant heals and poke is a necessary to win lane. Overall, not too bad of a matchup.
Lulu
Surprisingly high amounts of poke. Especially if she hits both Qs. Proceed with caution and go about poking strategically.
Lux
The textbook support that rushes sightstone, then proceeds to build morello and rabadon's. Despite all this, you can easily out-poke her
Miss Fortune
Be on the lookout for her extremely high early game damage. Whatever you do, do not let her get fed early!!!
Morgana
Stay behind minions to avoid getting snared. Her black shield really isn't of much use in lane because you don't have that much cc.
Nami
Although her heals are stronger than yours, you should be able to out-poke her because her heals also cost a lot of mana. (Around 120 per heal at higher ranks).
Nunu & Willump
There's really not much he can do against you. You drastically out-poke him, and even though he heals with his Q, you can just target his adc instead.
Quinn
Quinn is relatively weak in the botlane right now as she doesn't do that much damage, even though she's supposed to "dominate" the earlygame.
Shen
Not seen as a support that often anymore, but not good against Sona in any means. You out-poke him, out-heal his poke, and destroy him in every way. Just be careful not to all-in or tower dive if you suspect he has his ult.
Sivir
Has a weak earlygame, but can block your poke and recover mana with her spellshield. Try to bait it out beforehand by simply walking toward them for a moment.
Sona
Mirror matchups are fun, but are completely skill based. In the botlane, it will depend entirely on who their adc is.
Soraka
Oh, Soraka. Target her with your poke every single time or else she'll just heal whatever poke you decide to put on her adc. Try to dodge her Qs as much as possible and don't get snared by her E!
Taric
Although his point-and-click stun is quite annoying, he can't out-poke you. The difficulty of facing taric is dependant on his adc. Try to poke the adc over him because he will heal only himself if he is much lower than the adc which means he will heal for much much more, reversing a lot of your damage.
Tristana
Tristana can be very deadly if her support has a lot of or frequent cc like Taric. You can abuse her pathetic early damage easily, however.
Twitch
Like Tristana, he can be very deadly if he has a support with a lot of cc, but unlike Tristana, he has a good early game.
Varus
Varus has extreme amounts of poke for an adc. It can shred though Sona's few health points very very easily. If you can poke him out of lane, great. If not, he will poke YOU out of lane.
Vel'Koz
Only scary if he lands an E and his adc follows up. Watch out for lasers, too.
Veigar
Not seen as a support too often, but not very devastating as your speed will give you plenty of time to get out of his stun before it solidifies.
Volibear
Again, not seen too often, but even his flip isn't that harmful as far as cc goes. Just poke him or his adc depending on whether or not you need his passive to be down.
Yasuo
Rarely seen as an adc, but he's out there. It's really no different than facing a Yasuo in midlane only now, he can ult 2 people instead of just one.
Zilean
Zilean has fallen out of favor since his rework and really isn't worth worrying about. His double stun can only be reliable if other cc is applied first.
Zyra
Watch out. Zyra's snare goes through minions meaning nowhere is safe!!! Dun dun dunnnnnnnn! She doesn't have any form of sustain though and people really only play her support for the snare as the plants are only good in botlane for taking cs.
Welcome to my first ever Mobafire guide!
When thinking about this initially, I had trouble deciding what champion to do.
I eventually decided on Sona. She was the first champion I bought, I main her, and I've gotten playing her down to a science! For the record, this is NOT a comprehensive guide about how to Sona, this is just a build that works great for me and some tricks that I like to use. Not much else to say here, so without further adieux, let's begin!
Runes
Runes
Hybrid Pen. is incredibly useful for Sona because it gives her significant bonus damage on her ++ combo. (See Unique Skills for details)
Movespeed quints are just because... YOU GOTTA GO FAST!!!
Items
Items
Spellthief's Edge Spellthief's Edge is a very standard starting item for Sona because of the poke reward, and just get as many Mana Potions Mana Potion as you can before the Warding Totem Stealth Ward. Tear of the Goddess Tear of the Goddess is essential for supplying a steady flow of mana for heals and pokes to help your allies. Early Boots Boots are also good; that's all I have to say about them. (Don't forget your Ugg's, kids!) Once you get your Sightstone Sightstone, swap out your totem Stealth Ward for a Sweeping Lens Sweeping Lens. Finding pesky wards is well worth it. Upgrade to an Oracle's Lens Oracle's Lens whenever as soon as it's necessary. Boots of Mobility with Alacrity Mobility Boots make for a huge speed bonus on Sona. With your active, you get around 500 movement speed which is key for running away since Sona is extremely squishy. Ardent Censer Ardent Censer is essential on Sona because it gives your auras even more purpose. The Ardent Censer Ardent Censer also gives you an 8% movement speed boost which makes you even faster! Then get Frostfang Frostfang for better stats, and Sheen Sheen for Spellblade (which is amazing for pokes). Fully upgrade Frostfang Frostfang to Frost Queen's Claim Frost Queen's Claim. The active is very helpful late game with its 80% slow. Manamune Manamune/Muramana Muramana adds to the effectiveness of Spellblade with its added AD. Lich Bane Lich Bane adds to your offensive Super(Sona)Powers in the late game with its great increase in AP while still retaining Spellblade with a nifty little +5% movement speed. Round off this build with the Ruby Sightstone Ruby Sightstone - extra health is never a bad thing.

Get your heal first to reverse the effects of unfriendly pokes, then max your q for incredible poke damage potential.
Masteries
Masteries
Masteries are pretty standard for supports in the utility tree, but instead of defense, I like to take caster-related skills in the offense tree.
Spells
Spells
Flash is a must-have on almost any champion, and Exhaust is to give your adc some more time to get the killing blows, or to protect low health allies from taking too much damage from an opposing mage or adc.
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Pros
+ Can be very fast mid-game. + Heals for days. + Abilities can affect multiple allies. + Amazing pokes.
Cons
- Extremely squishy. - Quite slow early game.
Unique Skills
Unique Skills
Sona's main combo is incredibly useful, especially with teammates. If there are many enemies in one place, and your team is itching to help, cast your Crescendo while trying to stun as many enemies as possible. Then cast your Song of Celerity on your allies to get them in close and cast your Aria of Perseverance to give some heals and a shield to all. Then, your passive will be one spell away from activating, so cast your Hymn of Valor and immediately follow up with a basic attack to deal the bonus Power Chord damage plus the added damage from your Hymn of Valor . When in lane, whenever you see your passive has 2 stacks, cast your Hymn of Valor and immediately follow up with a basic attack to poke the enemy for a good chunk of health while gaining around 20-30 gold from Spellthief's Edge Spellthief's Edge/Frostfang Frostfang/Frost Queen's Claim's Frost Queen's Claim passive.
