Why Veigar Support?

This guide isn't meant to show you that Veigar is the best support, there are many other champions that can do the job better. But it's an occasional pick that can be fun if you play it correctly, being able to carry with your ADC.

Pros & Cons

[ Pros ]
- Possible to get a huge stun or pick from Event Horizon
- Quick burst once someone is stunned
- High scaling potential
- Fun watching a 50% health tank instantly die to Primordial Burst
- Huge threat late game
- Not usually expected as a support
- Decent poke

[ Cons ]
- Unreliable way to get stacks since your ADC is farming
- Immobile & squishy
- Weak when losing
- Early game isn't the strongest
- No forms of peel or disengage apart from Event Horizon

Runes

- Primary Tree

Arcane Comet - With your Event Horizon keeping people inside, you should be able to hit most of your comets with your abilities to add in more poke. Switching to Summon Aery will help against more mobile opponents.

The Ultimate Hat - Veigar will nuke almost anyone with his Primordial Burst so you'll want it up as much as possible. Switch to Manaflow Band if you have mana issues.

Celerity - Transcendence is also good, but I prefer Celerity to I can get a little more speed to catch someone out with Event Horizon. Also, Veigar is an immobile champ so everything helps.

Scorch - Taking Gathering Storm into his passive scaling isn't really needed as he can still build up a huge amount of AP lategame while his early damage suffers a bit. [{Scorch]] will help to add in more damage.

- Secondary Tree

Biscuit Delivery - This will help Veigar with some sustain but can be switched to both Magical Footwear and Perfect Timing depending on the game.

Cosmic Insight - More CDR overall is helpful.

Summoner Spells

Flash - This allows Veigar to quickly escape or catch someone out with Event Horizon and much more.

Exhaust - This will be your second starting Spell since it can save you or your ADC from being bursted down instantly.

Ignite - An alternative to Exhaust if you want to try to secure a kill early on or counter someone like Soraka and Maokai.

No more switching to Teleport with Unsealed Spellbook. (wake me up, wake me up insiiideee)

Covering Core Items

Eye of the Watchers - Fully built Support item. Gives Vision Wards that will help you team secure objectives and not die to Zed sitting in a bush. Gives a little bit of AP as well.

Archangel's Staff - This makes Veigar into a huge lategame threat and gives him almost unlimited mana. Once turned into Seraph's Embrace the shielding you get from it is immensely useful as Veigar has little to no protection from assassins such as Akali.

Rabadon's Deathcap - More AP = Good. Veigar also makes great use of the unique passive as it can give him a massive amount of AP.

Oracle Lens - As a Support your job is to control the vision game. This means buying Control Wards, warding Baron and Dragon, and clearing out enemy wards. Also let's your Zed sit in a bush waiting to blow up an ADC.

Elixir of Sorcery - Buy this lategame or before a teamfight if you can't afford anything else. The extra AP and effects help.

Covering AP Items

Spellbinder - Makes you a fast boi and can potentially be a steroid for your Primordial Burst. Buy if you're ahead or need to destroy someone quickly.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter - Not really an optimal buy for someone like Veigar since he kills them before the slow will be meaningful but it also allows him to help catch someone out to burst down.

Void Staff - A big middle finger to tanks. That's about it.

Morellonomicon - After it got changed it's kind of bad now. The Grievous Wounds passive and flat magic pen is what makes this a good buy into heavy-sustain champs like Warwick.

Mejai's Soulstealer - Gamble your stacks on the line if you're ahead enough or confident you can't be killed. Movement speed boost is also nice to catch someone with Event Horizon.

Luden's Tempest - Alternative mana item to Archangel's Staff if you want an earlier power spike and don't need the huge mana boost.

Farming Stacks as a Support

Since your ADC will be doing the farming, you can use your Baleful Strike and Dark Matter to poke down the enemy ADC and Support when they walk up to last hit minions. If they're playing a lower ranged champion then you can try to go for a more aggressive harass starting with Event Horizon to keep them in place.
