Introduction

Hi there!

My name is Vladimir, and I want to share my 1st seriously made build.
As you see we are talking about Jax and playing at The Twisted Treeline field of justice.
So you can get here a lot of information about champion Jax and field of justice The Twisted Treeline!

Also I discuss playing Jax at Summoner Rift and Dominion. So you can get some hints about it here too.

I love Jax because hes a rare champion with and epic anti carry defense - dodge! Jax also is great hybrid damage outputer, with really nice and useful spells!

Balanced champion builds

Greetings!

Here I will discuss what is an balanced build in my opinion. First of all any champion in the league must have good rates at three stats: Offence, Defense and Utility You may ask why all three at once? Lets discuss it.

If champion is low in Offence - enemy team champions might just ignore him and aim for yours allays. And how you think to win a game if you cant kill an enemy champion?

If champion is low in Defense - you are a squishy champion, you will be focused first and die fast... We don't want to die fast right?

And Utility - if you are slow in movement, have huge cooldown times at spells, maybe, get low on mana fast - you are useless in team fights or long battles, need to go back fast in laneing. You don't do what you supposed to do - It is a fail!

So in my Flat Jax 3v3 TT build I combine all those stats, by using Jax passive Relentless Assault with runes, masteries and items, using knowledge of his spells and AP, AD, Dodge rates.

So here we go...

Runes

All possible dodge you can get 9x Greater Seal of Evasion and 3x Greater Quintessence of Evasion.
This way you can Stun more often and you get more MR from ultimate Relentless Assault when you activate it.

Greater Mark of Attack Damage flat AD and Greater Glyph of Ability Power flat AP to be more powerful at level 1 and early game. Jax get more offence in Leap Strike and Empower and more defence by gaining health form Relentless Assault
Back to Top

Masteries

The defensive mastery talent Nimbleness complements Jax Counter Strike ability. The burst of speed can help you place your stun quicker.

It is recommended to take minion aggro to build up your Counter Strike faster, but minions do damage to Jax so to make it less painful - take a Defensive Mastery and a Harden Skin at level 1 Jax receives like ~8 damage from normal minions.

Also it is good to take a Veteran's Scars so you have more health at level 1 and beginning of the game.

Summoner spells

Ignite helps to get first blood or a kill. Also is a nice true damage DoT late game.

Flash Jax is a great champion 1 on 1, you might want to pick up Exhaust for 1v1 battle, but you still can easily stun your enemy. And don't think Exhaust will help in situations when you are 1v2 or even 1v3... So picking Flash is more useful, you can Flash and Leap Strike to catch an enemy which was out of Leap Strike range, then, if you can, stun with Counter Strike and maybe get a kill! If you are in situation when you need to escape, flash out so enemy is out of range. If Jax is near wall you can Flash over it.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
  • Great at 1v1 battles, specialy against AD carries
  • High amount of health 730 health at level 1 with this build
  • Has chasing and escape mechanisms ( Leap Strike, stun and dodge)
  • A decent farmer, due to his high AS
  • Can solo Dragon at TT early-mid game

Cons:
  • Item dependant
  • Lacks damage till level 6
  • Easy focused in team fights
  • No AoE damage and only has CC, if he dodges
Back to Top

Jax stats @ level 1

Jax has 730 health with Doran's Blade , Veteran's Scars and runes 9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage & 9x Greater Glyph of Ability Power thous are turned in health by Jax passive Relentless Assault

Jax has 78 AD at the beginning, that is quite a lot!

Boots

Can't believe that other people in their builds recommend to buy some other boots - not Ninja Tabi!

It feels like they are old school gamers... I mean the time when there was no tenacity skill. And only item which reduced the duration of Crowd Control effects was Mercury's Treads

Now things are changed, with Patch 1.0.0.118, there is added new skill tenacity. (Tenacity is a mechanic that is used to reduce the duration of Crowd Control effects) So here are new Items that have tenacity: Cloak and Dagger, Eleisa's Miracle and Moonflair Spellblade!

In Jax case Moonflair Spellblade will successfully replace Mercury's Treads ...

Also some might think Sorcerer's Shoes with Magic Penetration or Berserker's Greaves with Attack Speed boots might do well too. But remember if you pick them, then you don't have dodge form Ninja Tabi and Ninja Tabi is only item that gives dodge, but Attack Speed and Magic Penetration you still can get from others items...

So thats why in this Flat Jax build you need to always pick up Ninja Tabi
Back to Top

Item core build

Flat Jax Core build:

First Item I always buy is Doran's Blade! It gives a lot of HP and AD which gives additional 30 hp form Jax passive Relentless Assault

Next item I always pick up is Ninja Tabi! It is only item in game that gives dodge.

Then I need to make my core build Hextech Gunblade‎ and Guinsoo's Rageblade !

Hextech Gunblade is a very useful item. It provides attack damage & ability power, giving you 260 Health through
Relentless Assault, as well as providing significant life steal and spell vamp. Spell Vamp will trigger off of
Relentless Assault passive, providing a heal whenever it deals damage

Guinsoo's Rageblade Absolutely is a key item for Jax. It is similar to Jax ultimate Relentless Assault, getting your attack speed up much fast, while providing more AP. The AD and AP gives 195 health from Jax passive Relentless Assault and each stack of Guinsoo's Rageblade gives 12 more health and it is 96 at 8 stacks .

These first 4 Items are core build. Having these four items you damage output per second should be insane. Other Items I will discuss are Luxury. From this point of game, when you bought your core build, you need to think! What do you need: more offense or defense?

Situational Items

Luxury Items:

Here are discussed items you must chose depending on your team and enemy team champions champions and their situation builds:

Atma's Impaler is another item that works perfectly on Jax. It gives good stats, armor and critical strike chance, and gives a percentage of Jax maximum health as extra damage. This extra damage is then turned into health by his passive, and that health is turned into damage, and from then on has diminishing damage and health gain.
This works out to an approximate 6.4% increase in health, and an effective 2.13% damage multiplier on Atma's instead of the 2% for any other champion.

If you consider an Atma's Impaler, consider taking a Frozen Mallet to keep your prey slowed down.
Alternatively, you can also consider grabbing a Rylai's Crystal Scepter to slow enemies down. Besides being 145 gold cheaper, all of Jax abilities will proc Rylai's Crystal Scepter slowing effect, even the third hit on his Relentless Assault, making it just as effective at slowing enemies down.

If your enemies team has a lot CC consider to buy a Banshee's Veil This item might let Jax to successfully escape when he is focused by enemies team. Also it adds some MR for more defense.

A Sheen with Leap Strike and Empower allows Jax to deal a massive amount of damage in quick succession. Although Leap Strike will not proc Sheen, it will proc Empower and leave Jax close to the enemy and ready to land a normal attack. This second attack will proc Sheen, and, since all this happens very fast, it's a good way to burst down a target. If you'll find this efficient against the enemy team, consider a Lich Bane.

Nashor's Tooth might be a nice choose too! Jax might need CDR and some AS in some games. Mana regeneration is useful too, because Jax has mana issues with this build. It costs same as Phantom Dancer and is more useful on Jax!

With Nashor's Tooth + 10 stacks of Relentless Assault + 8 stacks of Guinsoo's Rageblade and Ardor mastery Jax will get 2.47225 hits per second (maximum in-game cap is 2.5 hits per second) In details about this calculations:
Jax base AS 0.638 hits per second. Jax increases his AS by 3,4% per level up, thats 61.2% at level 18. Level three Relentless Assault gives 14% AS each stack thats 140% AS with 10 stacks. Guinsoo's Rageblade each stack gives 4% AS, with 8 stacks it is 32% Masteries Ardor gives more 4% AS
So the calculation: (18*3.4%) + (10*14%) + (8*4%) + 50% +4% 287.5% increased AS
0.638*3.875=2.47225 hits per second (added more 100% because 287.5% it is increased AS,)
Checked this in game! With all this in=game (level 18 Jax mentioned items and max stacks of Relentless Assault & Guinsoo's Rageblade Jax AS is 2.47 hits per second
Back to Top

In game dodge calculation

Jax final dodge: Runes (9 Tier 3 Greater Seal of Evasion Seal of Evasion and 3 Greater Quintessence of Evasion (11.25% total)) + Masteries Evasion 2% + Jax passive 18% at level 18th (from Counter Strike Passive) + 1 x Ninja Tabi 12%:

1-(1-0.1125)×(1-0.02)×(1-0.18)×(1-0.12)=0.3723884 dodge chance (rounded)

It's 37% of dodge chance in game.

So at level 18 Jax got 37% of chance to dodge an melee attack.

Twisted Treeline

In next few sections some information about Twisted Treeline 3v3 map.

TT - Basic warding

Wards

You only need to place two wards on this map, one by Grez the Lizard and one in front of the Dragon so you can see when people are going to gank and when people are going to jungle; making them targets for ganking.

Sight wards are best despite the fact that Vision Wards can detect other wards because they're simply much more cost effective. However, if you have some extra cash buy more wards and put them in front of the creeps, it's a slightly overkill but will make for better map control and more precise ganking.

TT - Monster Buff info

Wolves

Buff: Crest of Nature's Fury

Increases attack speed by 20% and reduces cooldowns by 10%

These ancient and feral creatures are to be feared, killing them gives you an additional 20% attack speed and reduced cooldown. This buff is brilliant for most characters but you really notice the difference on ranged and melee DPS champions.

Wraith

Buff: Crest of Flowing Water

Increases Move Speed by 30%

The wraith are legendary creatures to be found all over runeterra, however the ones on the Twisted Treeline are far more sinister and superior to there counterparts, as such they bestow a gift of additional speed to the one strong enough to slay them. Great for assassin type heroes or any who dare to challenge them.

Lizard

Buff: Blessing of the Lizard Elder

This unit's physical attacks slow the target's movement speed by (10/20/30)% (at levels 1/6/11) and deal (7.7 + Level * 2.35) true damage based on their level. If the buff holder is slain, this buff is transferred to the killer.

Ah yes, the Elder Lizard, also known as "Grez", this bad boy is a relative of the ones found on Summoner's Rift and happens to go to a tea party to catch up with all his relatives every week, that is unless a challenger, or three, appear to kill him and take the mighty red buff from him. On this map the red buff can change the flow of a game in an instant; therefore it's best to save it for your main damage dealer.

Dragon

Buff: Crest of Crushing Wrath

This unit deals <Champion Level>% increased damageLast, but certainly not least, the dragon.

This bad boy is like the Baron Nashor of Twisted Treeline and has dominion over this area; any seeking his permission to pass must fight him, and if they defeat him he will bestow them with the mighty gift of an additional 18% damage and 150 gold to your entire team. However, do not underestimate him. At low levels it's best if all 3 of your team are there to take him on.

Early Dragon kill

In Twisted Treeline each team wants to get Dragon down 1st. Jax is one of rare champions that can kill dragon solo at early mid game! Notice Jax must be in a solo top line!

Usually, in this build, Jax is able to solo dragon at level 7. Core items for Dragon:
Sight Ward

In practice Jax can handle Dragon solo at level 6 if has all those items, but practice shows that at level 6 its is not enough gold to buy it all in most of games!

Also when solo top enemy reaches 6 level, he will want to use his ultimate... and if you go for a Dragon you may be ganked and give Dragon to enemy team. So think over to wait a bit, get more gold and get Sight Ward and Health Potion or help to gank bottom lane if possible.

Playing Jax vs Jax

Some times I have played normal games against other enemy Jax. And now I want to tell you about nice way, how to beat classic Jax build in 1v1 battles.

As you see this build makes Jax quite powerful at level 1, so at beginning it is not a problem to beat enemy Jax just harass him!

As we all know classic Jax build starts with Guinsoo's Rageblade - we will use it against him!

If I play against other Jax I change 4th item in my core build:

So the main idea is replace Guinsoo's Rageblade with Nashor's Tooth !

Why??? Its simple...

Classic Jax use Guinsoo's Rageblade - so he gains AS per hit stack, when hes 8-10 stack - he goes crazy DPS. He starts gaining his stacks slow at first hits, bur really fast at end!

What I am doing is using his low stack gain early fight and trying to not letting him get stacks that are over 6!

If we want to use his low attack speed early stacks we need to have greater AS at begining - its easy: build Nashor's Tooth! That means I will have more AS at 0 stacks, but enemy Jax has less AS with his Guinsoo's Rageblade

So here it is, how it happens in battle... Let say both Jax start hitting each other at one time, then when I do 4th or 5th hit enemy Jax gets only 3rd or 4th hit! And when I slam him with my 6th attack with magic damage, enemy Jax thinks that I am almost at my max stacks, he fears of that huge damage output that Jax has at max stacks, so he almost always will start to run away, when he sees that his stacks are lower than ours...
And the thing I like the best, that it is so easy to chase with Jax even if that is another Jax who is running away form you!

Don't forget each Jax can dodge and stun... It is not a problem, because we have max in-game dodge that you can get in game. so in ~80% of fights our Jax will be 1st who will be able to use stun. So this will allow us to gain more attack stacks while enemy is stunned.

A hint:
I start with Bilgewater Cutlass to build Hextech Gunblade and start with Stinger to build Nashor's Tooth.

Dominion Flat Jax

Chapter I

Playing like 30-40 games in dominion with Jax, I discovered one nice build I want to share with you guys.

We start with:
Ninja Tabi, Vampiric Scepter and 2x Health Potion

Then continue with:
Bilgewater Cutlass, Hextech Revolver, Hextech Gunblade then we build Stinger, Fiendish Codex, Nashor's Tooth

And the last three items are:
Bilgewater Cutlass, Will of the Ancients and Stinger

How to build these three items - sequence: Vampiric Scepter -> Hextech Revolver -> Stinger -> Bilgewater Cutlass -> Will of the Ancients.

So the core build you can make every 20 min in Dominion is:
P.S. Last patch League of Legends v1.0.0.127 Hextech Gunblade got a nerf:
So now with this build we have 30% life steal (not 35% as before) and 45%s spell vamp (not 50% as before) !
Still we can use two times our slow (form Bilgewater Cutlass and Hextech Gunblade)
Our CDR remains unchanged 35%

And insane AS 90% form items, 140% at level 16 from Relentless Assault at 10 stacks and 4% from mastery Ardor Also don't forget Jax increases his AS by 3,4% per level up, thats 61.2% at level 18! So our AS will be 0.638×3.952=2.521376 it is:
2.5 hits per second in game!

With this build you can easy kill a squishy champ with having about 10% of max hp and enemy at 100% And when you will be used to this build you can do with 20% of max heath 1v2 under tower defending. Imagine surprise of enemy when they tower dive at lvl 18 to kill you when you are at 20% of heath and they both die and Jax is still about 10-20% of max health :P

Bah, I am so upset I didn't frap that game I did 1v2 under tower...

Chapter II

As playing more Dominion games and last patch League of Legends v1.0.0.127 change of Hextech Gunblade I have to present you one more build for Jax! Also I felt that previous build was great, but still something was missing... Like last item as Stinger - at longer games I felt like it is wrong choice to buy it! So I came up with a new build, with same gold amount to purchase all items, but with a chance to upgrade it at longer games!!

Main idea is to buy Hextech Gunblade as last item, or even don't buy it at all - if we have a successful short game.

So the core build is:

As you see the core build has no Hextech Gunblade, but if you want to use it in your core build, use build from chapter I

Also I added new Item: Spirit Visage The reason is that it gives you 10% CDR as Stinger did in previous build. And also we have no Life Steal here! So I wanted to maximize spell vamp and increase it by 15% It is cool to have +15% HP from Health Relics in Dominion.

In this core build we have no Attack Damage bonus from items, in other hand we have BIG boost on Ability Power like +285AP from Items. This also will let Jax have more health from his passive Relentless Assault. Also we have some mana boost + 350 mana and Magic resistance +60MR

And of course Lich Bane - Remember that Leap Strike will not proc Sheen or Lich Bane, it will proc Empower and leave Jax close to the enemy and ready to land a normal attack. As we have no additional AD from items we try to build Lich Bane from Sheen ASAP (as soon as possible).

Jax Total Spell Vamp will be 46% with core build (40% spell vamp multiply with 15% form Spirit Visage)
and 52% Spell Vamp with upgraded build (45% spell vamp multiply with 15% form Spirit Visage)

max Attack Speed calculations:
We have 50% AS form items, 140% at level 16 from Relentless Assault at 10 stacks and 4% from mastery Ardor Also don't forget Jax increases his AS by 3,4% per level up, thats 61.2% at level 18! So our AS will be 0.638×3.552=2.266176
So my AS calculations say with this build Jax will have 2.27 (Hits per second) with max Relentless Assault stacks.

Our core build costs 12055 gold and we can make it every game like at 20th minute of game.
As for 25 minute games I bring you an possible upgrade... In this build I made a hint, we can upgrade Hextech Revolver into Hextech Gunblade if we have a long game with similar team force.
And total cost of this upgraded build is 14480 gold.

The thing I like a lot in this build is that Jax has OP defense against physical damage carries - dodge and stun as all other previous build I mentioned! But This one has made Jax more powerful against mages - more MR from Items and more health from passive Relentless Assault and item Spirit Visage (+250 health) Now he is more Tanky, but Still has insane damage output!

This is my new build, have tried it myself just few times, so don't be shy to comment/recommend something to make it even better!

Conclusion

I tried and tested a lot of builds. This is 1st one I can play with.
Think it's simple, but costs a lot of IP! Only dodge runes cost 13530 IP.

P.S. remember Jax got nerf at previous patch League of Legends v1.0.0.124! Base damage of Leap Strike and Empower reduced by 15 each!

One more nerf for Jax since last patch League of Legends v1.0.0.127
Hextech Gunblade has been nerfed:
Attack Damage reduced to 40 from 60
Ability Power reduced to 70 from 75
Life Steal reduced to 15% from 20%
Spell Vamp reduced to 20% from 25% and is now UNIQUE

Other Jax build that helped me a lot!
