<Challenger> S11 LostFish - Ezreal: Divine Sunderer

By LostFishEU
About me
I go by the name LostFish online and I have been playing League of Legends since season 3. I come from a MOBA background and used to play games such as Warcraft 3 DOTA and Heroes of Newerth. My first ranked season was season 4 and I hit Platinum playing casually, then the next season I tried harder and got to Diamond. After that I played League of Legends more casually with friends and maintained Diamond. I started ranking again in Season 9 and hit Master within 2 weeks. I started Season 10 and got Grandmaster by playing ADC. Now I am looking to achieve Challenger.

My Other Guides

The Basic

If you are totally new to Ezreal, I recommand going through the basic. If you have the basic knowledge of Ezreal skip the basic by clicking Here

Rising Spell Force (Passive)

RANGE: Non
COST: 0 mana
COOLDOWN: Non
Every time Ezreal hits an enemy unit with one of his abilities, he gains 10% bonus attack speed for 6 seconds, stacking up to 5 times for a maximum of 50%

Rising Spell Forcewill stack even if the abilities used were spell shielded

Mystic Shot (Q)
RANGE: 1150
COST: 28 / 31 / 34 / 37 / 40 Mana
COOLDOWN: 5,5 / 5,25 / 5 / 4,75 / 4,5
Ezreal fires a bolt of energy in a line, dealing Attack damage physical damage to the first enemy hit, applying on-hit and on-attack effects and healing off Life steal icon life steal instead of Spell vamp icon spell vamp./i]

If Mystic Shot successfully hits an enemy, Ezreal's abilities' Cooldown reduction icon cooldowns are reduced by 1.5 seconds (including Mystic Shot's).

Essence Flux (Passive)

RANGE: 1150
COST: 50 Mana
COOLDOWN: 12
Ezreal fires an orb that sticks to first enemy Champion icon champion, Monster icon epic monster, or structure hit for 4 seconds.
Hitting the target with a damaging ability or basic attack detonates the orb, dealing Magic Damage.

Detonating with an ability fully refunds the cost of that ability and restores Mana icon 60 mana.

Arcane Shift (Passive)

RANGE: 475
COST: 90 mana
COOLDOWN: 25 / 22 / 19 / 16 / 13
Ezreal Flash blinks to the target location, firing a homing bolt that deals magic damage to the nearest enemy./i]

Arcane Shift prioritizes targets hit by Essence Flux Essence Flux.

Trueshot Barrage (Passive)

RANGE: Global
COST: 100 mana
COOLDOWN: 120
Ezreal fires an Trueshot Barrage Minimap energy projectile in the target direction, briefly Sight icon revealing the area it flies through and dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through.

Minion and non-epic Monster take 50% reduced damage.
Items

Blade of the Ruined King used to be the core item for Ezreal but now in Season 11 it is only good if you are against more tanky compositions. It grants Physical Damage and Attack Speed which are both great stats, but the important part is the passive and life steal from Blade of the Ruined King The passive grants him a huge damage boost with Mystic Shot because Mystic Shot activates on hit effects such as Trinity Force and Blade of the Ruined King
The movement speed passive is also a crucial part of Blade of the Ruined King The passive deals 40-120 Magic Damage to an enemy champion and steals 25% Movement speed from the target for 2 seconds. The movement speed helps him in skirmishes and 1v1s against melees by kiting and also grants him a higher chance to dodge certain abilities which gives an edge in the skirmish.
Manamune Fits Ezreal perfectly. First of all, it gives Ezreal a huge boost in his mana pool because of the Tear of the Goddess Ezreal needs to spam his abilities a lot, so the bigger mana pool the better. Manamune's passive also gives 2% of Ezreal's maximum Mana to Attack Damage.
Once Manamune turns into Muramana which makes all basic attacks and single targeted abilities against champions deal 4% of Ezreal's current mana, this works with Mystic Shot
Not too much to say about Berserker's Greaves It grants a huge amount of attack speed for 1100 gold. Boots are crucial in this Season because of the midlane roams and jungle ganks to be able to outrun them. They are the only damage increase for basic attack boots in the game. You could also build Ionian Boots of Lucidity Mercury's Treads or Plated Steelcaps against heavy AD damage dealers (More info about them below)
Ravenous Hydra is something new for ranged champions this season. Koreans Ezreal players are abusing it a lot in their games. The stats are great for Ezreal. It gives a huge amount of Attack Damage, Ability Haste for your Q spam and Omnivamp for overall sustain. The most important aspect is the Tiamat passive, making it easy to wave clear and also poke the enemies with some extra area damage using Mystic Shot
(Only build this when you are going Liandry's Torment.) Lich Bane offers great Magic Damage and Movement speed and empowers his Mystic Shot because you won't have Trinity Force when going this route.
Death's Dance could be a great item choice if you are versus a team with heavy Physical Damage burst Assassins. It gives a good amount of Armor and Attack Damage with a great unique Passive. Usually a 4th-6th item to pick up.
Chempunk Chainsword is a great item against champions that rely on healing the 40% healing reduction from Grievous Wounds (60% when fully stacked) make a world of difference. I recommend to buy this item if they have champions on the opposite team with a lot of healing such as: Vladimir Darius Yuumi Soraka Warwick Volibear and Dr. Mundo. The stats on Chempunk Chainsword are not too bad. The extra Ability Haste combined with the Attack Damage makes it worth it
Serylda's Grudge Unique Passive makes hitting skill shots as Ezreal a lot easier,it gives Ability Haste and Armor Penetration which are great stats for Ezreal However, the Attack Damage is low for being a 3400 item so I only recommend this item later into the game.

TRINITY FORCE
VS

LIANDRY'S ANGUISH
Trinity Force offers a big boost in Physical Damage in terms of Auto-Attacking and also gives you movement speed which is always a good stat on ADCs to have. The ability haste helps Ezreal out with his Ability spam.
Trinity Force "Swift Strikes" increases Ezreal's Attack Damage and works stacking with Mystic Shot making it easy to stack up to five times.
Trinity Force Mythic Passive is not that strong for Ezreal, because he usually pokes more than auto attacks, but a boost in Physical Damage nevertheless

I recommand Trinity Force when you already have Magic Damage in your team and against more squishy teams.
Liandry's Torment works really well with Ezreal's poke potential. It slowly burns them to death with a % max health Magic Damage and grants Ezreal a bonus Magic Penetration, this works wonders against a tanky team. The stats on Liandry's Torment are not bad at all. Max Mana for Manamune, Ability Power for Ezreal's Magic scaling abilities, Ability Haste from the item and the Mythic Passive makes Ezreal Mystic Shot spammable with an increase of mobility with his Arcane Shift

I recommend Liandry's Torment if you got no (Or small amount) of Magic Damage in your team and against a high amount of tanks. Remember to pick up Lich Bane if you go this route

Spirit Visage is a great item because with this you will gain bonus healing from your lifesteal and your runes. Another thing to note is that the passive increases ALL healing. This means that the healing supports will also heal you more. I recommend this item against heavy poke or AP heavy champions that kill you more slowly such as: Morgana Fiddlesticks Karthus Anivia and Teemo
Is a really good item against AD assassins. Guardian Angel has pure AD that boosts your damage and also helps you gain a huge amount of armor. The unique passive is one of the most powerful item passives in the game. After the assassin uses their ultimate on you they will need to kill you again but this time without it. By the time you get back to life their Assassin might be dead already. I recommend this item against: Rengar Kha'Zix Kayn Vi and Nocturne
This item is great against heavy Magic damage with their burst while also gaining a lot of AD to your damage pool. One thing to note is that Immortal Shieldbow and Maw of Malmortius does not work together! They share an unique passive called "Lifeline" I recommend this item vs heavy AP nukers such as Lux, Syndra Zoe Veigar, Evelynn and Annie

-OR-

Plated Steelcaps > ARMOR
This is the most powerful tank item in the game. It gives 20 flat armor resist and on top of that it gives a huge defensive passive "Blocks 12% of the damage from basic attacks." for 1100 gold, this is an insane value. If you are against heavy Physical Damage in the enemy team, I highly recommend buying a pair of these.

Mercury's Treads > TENACITY
These boots are not as powerful as Plated Steelcaps but still very strong. It gives a great boost of flat Magic Resist by 25, and reduce the durations of Crowd Control by 30% this is great against Champions such as Morgana and Leona etc.

Silvermere Dawn AKA Quicksilver Sash is great against champions that rely heavily on crowd control such as Ashe Enchanted Crystal Arrow, Morgana Dark Binding, Lux Light Binding , Sejuani Glacial Prison, Elise Cocoon, Skarner Impale, Malzahar Nether Grasp, Another thing to note is that quicksilver works against Mordekaiser Realm of Death It also has a decent
amount ofAttack Damage, Life Steal and Magic Resistance.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity work really well with Ezreal because of the flat 10% Cooldown Reduction you get from it. This enables Ezreal to spam his abilities more often, which makes him more mobile because of Arcane Shift and increases his damage output. The reduced cooldown on Summoners Spells is also huge for an ADC,for example Flash
Pros and Cons
PROS

+ Powerspikes with certain items
Trinity Force
Muramana

+ Usually highest damage in game

+ Great mobility with Arcane Shift

+ Can burst down an enemy in one combo

+ Can be useful for the team to have as a utility role with Iceborn Gauntlet and poking them down with Mystic Shot

+ Long Range

+ Can snipe enemies across the map with Trueshot Barrage

+ Deals hybrid damage
CONS

- Weak once someone runs up on him close range

- Doesn't deal a lot of damage with auto attacks

- High Skill Cap

- Weak before Ezreal gets his Trinity Force and Muramana

- Minions can block your Mystic Shot
Runes and Whys

PRECISION
Lethal Tempo: To maximise the effect of this rune, you need to know wave management. The one big reason why you would choose Lethal Tempo is because you have trigger the effect by poking the enemy with Mystic Shot then use your autos on the minions to balance the wave better. If you are less experienced I suggest avoiding Lethal Tempo for now, but it is good to know why people would choose Lethal Tempo over other runes.

Fleet Footwork: I don't see a lot of use in this rune. The healing sustain from Fleet Footwork will help you in the lane, but it doesn't offer Ezreal any real synergy. One thing to note is that you can activate it by shooting your Mystic Shot. I think the other runes are just better choices.

Conqueror: This is the go-to rune I recommend Ezreal players to choose. Stacking up the Conqueror stacks is really easy with Ezreal just because of how fast you can get all of your spells out. You also gain stacks on auto attacks, which Ezreal can do very easily. Getting 10 stacks of Conqueror shouldn't be any problem at all when it comes to Ezreal.

Presence of Mind: This rune fits Ezreal perfectly. It gives Ezreal a big mana regen which allows him to rapidly cast even more abilities. It is really easy to activate it by using Mystic Shot on the enemy champions, which also makes it easier to sustain for Manamune to build up towards Muramana

Overheal On paper this rune looks good to have on
Ezreal with the combination of Legend: Bloodline, you also get the healing from Blade of the Ruined King. But the shield of this rune is way to weak to be used. And on top of that you will in most cases not full HP in the laning phase against all the poke and skirmishes. If you are running with a support that brings a lot of healing this rune could actually be played, because the overheal from the support could be useful against a heavy poke lane.

Triumph This is the go to rune for most ADCs. This gives a massive heal on takedowns and grants also additional 20 gold, which could stack up quite quickly. Your goal as an ADC is to survive as long as you can in a teamfight, and gaining a 12% heal makes a world of difference in terms of survivaling in a teamfight. Also in the botlane you will be against 2 players, that makes it your responsibility to kill one of them, you will gain the massive heal before you start fighting the remaining person in lane, making it even more important to have. However, I do think Presence of Mind is stronger here
Legend: Alacrity Pretty straightforward, Ezreal scales well with Attack Speed These stacks increases everytime you takedown a Champion or simply kill minions, the more stacks you have, the more attack speed. One thing to note is that Legend: Alacrity is the easiest to stack out of these 2.
Legend: Alacrity has a max stacks of 10 and starts with 3% Attack Speed even without any stacks!

Legend: Bloodline: I think this is the best choice for Ezreal just because of you will be building your lifesteal item mid/late game, therefore it will take some time before you can get a hold of your lifesteal. Legend: Alacrity helps with the damage and wave management, but the lifesteal from Legend: Bloodline is too big to miss out on if you don't rush any lifesteal items.

Coup de Grace This one is simple. Cut Down is against tanks which you will not try to focus in lane anyway. Last Stand increases when you are low which you never want to be as an ADC, also your life steal will counteract this. As an ADC you also want to take the kills in order to carry late game, and Coup de Grace Makes it easier for that to happen.

SORCERY

Manaflow Band is easily the go-to rune for Ezreal because it grants him a bigger mana pool, which allows Manamune to hit even harder. The extra Mana Regen combined with Presence of Mind gives him a massive Mana sustain. It is also really easy to stack with Mystic Shot

Trancendence Gives Ezreal more Ability Haste which is one of his strongest stats. It also reduces the remaining cooldown of his basic abilities on champion takedowns which could be a life saver by using Arcane Shift to escape once you have killed an enemy champion.

First will be the Offense shards
Adaptive Force Attack Speed and Ability Haste Because Ezreal scales really well with Attack speed, the Attack Speed rune will always be the superior choice.

In the middle we have the Flex shards
Adaptive Force Shield Tenacity and Slow Resist Because we are playing the ADC role, we want to put out as much damage as we can, and Adaptive Force is the only damage choice on this row, therefore we will go with the Adaptive Force

The last row is a bit more interesting, it will be the Defense shards
Flat Health Shield and Tenacity and Slow Resist to choose between. In 70% of the scenarios I would recommand the Shield because the damage will be Physical Damage from the ADC in most of the cases. However! There are cases when the support actually deals more damage than the ADC in laning, therefore, going with Tenacity and Slow Resist might not be a bad idea. Flat Health Could also benefit Ezreal because it scales as you level, and as Ezreal you become really powerful later into the game. Another thing to note is if you are against heavy Physical Damage or Magic Damage team, you can swap to Shield or Tenacity and Slow Resist depending on their team composition
Conclusion
This covers up the basic knowledge you need to know about Ezreal to climb with him. Hopefully this will take you to your desired rank! Of course there is hours of more content I could write about and go through every single detail, but I want the readers to come out from this guide not too overwhelmed but at the same time an indepth look into Ezreal as a Champion. I hope you got the knowledge you were looking for and I will do more Ezreal guides and guides on ADCs in the future on both YouTube and in writing format.
