Playtime's never over - The Boy and his Yeti

By lukuluku

Welcome to this Nunu and Willump guide!
The tips here will hopefully improve your climbing by being the difference between victory and defeat. In order for you to find me trustworthy I'll link my account here.

-
Pros
+ Great ganks
+ Strong control near neutral objectives
+ Rewarding lo learn rankwise
+ Lot of variation
+ Fun to play
Nunu & Willump is a champion which can be hopeless to face yet feel complicated to play. Knowing his strengths is the first step towards learning the champion. His ganks might be the greatest one because of the suprise factor they bring. Having a snowball rolling towards you with insane movement speed can be very intimidating to face. The double smite Nunu has with his Consume can neither be underestimated as it always secures objectives.
Cons
- Low damage output
- Not a real tank
- Bad scaling
- Hard to fully master
- Countered heavily by some champions
Despite his numerous strengths, Nunu & Willump still have some weaknesses. To start with, he is dependent on allied champions due to his low damage and bad scaling. If your allies don't get ahead and deal damage you will probably lose the game. The fact that, in my opinion, Nunu and Willump neither is a real tank leads to a complicated playstyle.

-

Phase Rush
Phase Rush is the most commonly used rune on Nunu & Willump due to the mobility it brings. Nunu's basic combo is snowrolling into other abilities which procs Phace Rush. Regardless whether the chase should continue or if it's time to retreat, the increased speed of movement from Phase Rush will come in handy.

Aftershock
Aftershock leads to different playstyle with Nunu & Willump. On one hand it brings more tankiness but on the other hand it makes him slower. I suggest running this rune when against a lot of melee champions with no escape.

Dark Harvest
Dark Harvest on Nunu & Willump is mainly used when building more ability power and less resistances. It can stack up fast with continuous ganks and snowball games. Go for this rune if your team lacks damage or if you just want to have fun.

-
Precision in the second tree is what i personally recommend as both of these runes are very benefitial. Especially Triumph can lead to a lot of outplay potential, for example when tower diving. A tanky champion like Nunu & Willump can be granted at least 300 health from one takedown during mid game.
Domination in the second tree is also a viable option when not running Dark Harvest. The upside of these runes are faster ganks and a little more damage. The downside is the decreased tankiness. So to conlcude I would use Domination when the focus will be on your laners and in lower elos where it's easier to stack takedowns.

SMITE: Smite is a must have for all junglers.
TELEPORT: Teleport can be used in many ways, for example when ganking. Teleport to a minion wave to start a lane gank or teleport to a fight on the other side of the map.
FLASH: Flash has many advantages towards teleport. First of all it can close the distance between you and an enemy, for example when playing against ranged champions such as Taliyah and Anivia. Second of all it can setup for steals around big objectives.
IGNITE: Ignite should be played when building Nunu & Willump aggresively or if the enemy has high amounts of healing. Nowadays, I take it most games as it makes Nunu & Willump funnier to play and brings a little bit of a suprise factor.

SUNFIRE AEGIS
VS

FROSTFIRE GAUNTLET
Sunfire Aegis is the best mythic item for Nunu & Willump without a doubt. The item is great because of it's damage against neutral objectives and champions. With it you can solo almost any monster except Baron Nashor and Elder Dragon , which you need 3 items for. Frostfire Gauntlet paired with Snowball Barrage slows enemy champions til they cant move, literally. If you want to run this item do it against against mobile champions such as Kindred and Nidalee.

-

THORNMAIL
Thornmail is best suited when against enemies with a lot of healing, for example Aatrox, Sylas and Samira. You can also sit on the component Bramble Vest without completing the full item.

DEAD MAN'S PLATE
Dead Man's Plate is really fun to play with as you can achieve the most insanely Biggest Snowball Ever! It's a great item in many scenarios although the components isn't the best.

SPIRIT VISAGE
Spirit Visage is probably the best magic resist item for Nunu & Willump. I would recommend purchasing Spectre's Cowl before Kindlegem.

-
Ionian Boots of Lucidity is a nisch choice of boots, meaning it could be great in some scenarios. For example in a game with high tempo where you also have Teleport. Not only do you get reduced summoner spell haste, you also get the same movement speed but cheaper.
Anathema's Chains is a nice item when your playing against a 1v9ing enemy. It's not just the reduced damage against yourself but also the enemy's decreased resistances which makes it so great.
The best elixir for Nunu & Willump which is beneficial long before full build. It should be picked up before fights around major objectives, similarly to Mejai's Soulstealer. Roll your snowball in front of your allies and create a Chaaaaaaaarge!!!

Ganks

Nunu & Willump is so fun to gank with and I say this because you can gank in so many ways. First of all we have the green lines, which is the easiest ganking routes. Then we have the blue line, which is somewhere in the middle. Lastly we have the red lines, which is is the hardest ones. I can imagine two questions you might have in mind:

* Aren't there harder routes that start from different places than the shown?
* Why have you only shown the bottom side of the map?

1. The first question is on point and I decided to only show these routes as they are the most useful. All these routes start from where the rift scuttler spawns and that is because we will use the extra movement speed in our ganks.

2. The second question can simply be answered with that the map is a reflection of itself. More importantly is the fact that Nunu & Willump should be ganking bot more often than top. Not only is the amount of gold doubled, the drake sits here.

First Clear and Proxying

You can clear pretty much however you want with Nunu & Willump. It mainly depends on what kind of gank you want to pull of. For example a mid gank, you can clear you botside camps and get level 3 off it. Or if you want to gank bot, just clear blue and start Biggest Snowball Ever!.

Tips for clearing could be to not hit the smallest krugs and instead kill them with your snowball. I could insert a video of it depending on interest. You can also proxy the gromp and blue and let them burn from your Bami's Cinder. Try it out yourself and maybe you can find new ways to speed up the clear.

Lanes to Gank and Flash Tracking

Generally you want to gank the lane with the highest kill potential. There are so many factors that play into this but as a guideline the lanes where the enemy is overextended is the best and easiest to gank. I usually don't track flash timers mainly because I'm lazy, but it is great if you do it.

Double Smite

Nunu and Willump is probably the champion with the best objective control. Other champion could be Kha'Zix with his evolved Taste Their Fear. You should start your Consume and during the cast time of it smite the objective to not give any window to your opponent.

Drake or Rift Herald

First rift herald is better than the first drake if you can use it before 14 minutes where the tower plating expire. However if the enemy has great scaling like Kassadin and Kayle you might want to prioritize the drake for the Dragon Soul. The second rift herald is pretty useless if you don't want to open up a specific lane. You can also use it to force the enemy away from an upcoming drake .

Baron Nashor or Dragon Soul

If you have reached Soul Point, which means 3 drakes and usually happens around 25 min, then it's time to confuse the enemy. If you get Soul and the enemy team get nothing, your team will win the game. However you can give up a drake for the baron nashor , this usually brings more gold and enables you to finish the game faster.

Snowball from Base

If the game somehow still is even there is a tip where you start Biggest Snowball Ever! from your base and use that movement speed to engage. This is especially useful if the enemy is split or you just really wants to force a fight.

-
Nunu & Willump is primarly a jungler and a tank.

He maxes Absolute Zero followed by Consume and the best mythic is Sunfire Aegis.

His best rune is Phase Rush and his best summoner spells are Smite followed by either Flash or Teleport.
