Introduction

Good morning/evening/afternoon reader. My name is Arcthunder, and this guide will be a clean cut guide on Camille, the Steel Shadow. Camille is a strong top lane pick, with a great kit that can turn around games. Also, her range of combos and the Hookshot makes her great at controlling the game. Overall, she's a great pick that is great at countering the current meta. As with all of my other guides, this guide will display how I play Camille, and will be strengthened by your comments and advice. I don't want to spend too much here, so be prepared to dive straight into pReCiSiOn: A Beginner's Guide to Camille.

Pros / Cons

PROS + True Damage
+ Sustain with Tactical Sweep
+ Hookshot lives out your dreams of Attack on Titan
+ High Mobility, making Camille great at splitpushing
+ Adaptive Defenses makes sure she wins trades
- Can't tank for team, nor engage
- Mid game can be difficult if you do feed
- Very item reliant
- Difficult to land CC ( Hookshot)
- High skill cap
CONS

Camille is extremely strong against nearly any team comp. Her true damage from Precision Protocol and a "lockdown" with Hextech Ultimatum makes sure nobody escapes from her pointy legs. Additionally, early game is easy against nearly any opponent, since Camille has built in sustain with Tactical Sweep. Finally, her Hookshot always her to move around the map quickly, and the Precision Protocol also works on turrets, making her a great splitpusher.

However, Camille does has some glaring weaknesses. Mainly, she can't engage to start a teamfight, due to the fact that she becomes extremely squishy if focused on. Also, being behind can leave you nearly useless to your team, since you are very item reliant. Finally, Camille is a very difficult champion to play, especially with the Hookshot. As with being underfed, if you pick Camille and have no experience with her, you will probably not win.

Who's Camille?

From League itself...

Weaponized to execute outside the boundaries of the law, Camille is an elegant and elite operative who ensures the Piltover machine and its Zaunite underbelly run smoothly. Camille's true strength is her adaptability and attention to detail, viewing sloppy technique as an embarrassment that must be put to order. Raised among manners and money, she is the Principal Intelligencer of Clan Ferros, tasked with cutting down her family's darker problems with surgical precision. With a mind as sharp as the blades she bears, Camille's pursuit of superiority through hextech body augmentation has left many to wonder if she is more machine than woman.

In short, Camille Ferros is part of a rich family that became rich through the discovery of powerful crystals. When she became older, thugs from Zaun attacked her family. They injured her, but Camille's father died due to the wounds. In response, she decided to ask for a hextech augmentation, in hopes to be able to protect the ones she loved the most. The scientist, Hakim, slowly grew a relationship to Camille over the time, to the point in which he proposed to her on the day the surgery was to take place. Camille's brother, the current leader of the Ferros clan, couldn't allow this and used her deepest, darkest fears against her. He faked an attack on himself and pried into Camille's fear: inability to protect the ones she loved. After that, she forced Hakim to perform the surgery. In the end, Hakim finished the surgery and immediately left, leaving her alone, with a hextech heart now beating in place.

In Game

Camille functions as a diver. Along with champions like Kled and Xin Zhao, Camille's job is to blitz towards one target and eliminate them. If left alone, you can be a dangerous kill threat. Also, all divers have their fair share of mobility. However, as will most divers, they can be fragile if focused on in teamfights. Even then, you can take some damage before having to dispatch with your high mobility.
You will mainly see divers do splitpushing, since they are amazing duelists as well. This is the mindset you should have when playing Camille

Runes

Precision

Keystone - Press the Attack: Look, I get it. Press the Attack doesn't scale with your second cast of Precision Protocol, but this still feels so great for me. Not all of your damage comes from that second cast, in fact, early game, it comes from your autos and Tactical Sweep. Perhaps Arcane Comet is a bit better, but I am still sticking to this or Aftershock.

Tier One Rune - Triumph: This tier one rune is great for staying healthy during roams, trades, and teamfights. Additionally, it increases the amount of money you get, making it extremely strong for solo kills early. Presence of Mind is nice too, but it kind falls off late game.

Tier Two Rune - Legend: Tenacity: Since you are diving fairly deep during teamfights thanks to Hookshot, tenacity will reduce the amount of time it takes for CC to end. Legend: Alacrity is nice too, since you could get in more autos, but it isn't really the best.

Tier Three Rune - Coup de Grace: With your full combo, your abilities should decimate squishies. This means that Coup de Grace will deal even more damage to those low health targets. Cut Down is perfect for a tanky enemy team. Even Last Stand is nice, since it gives you a bit of a boost when dueling on low health.

Domination

Tier Four Rune - Sudden Impact: Hookshot counts as a leap/dash/etc., so you get free lethality and magic pen (although magic pen isn't that good). More lethality = more damage! Cheap Shot works well too, since Hookshot counts as impairment.

Tier Five Rune - Eyeball Collection: Clearing wards are important, so this is just an extra benefit! Get an early kill? Free AD. Clear a ward? Free AD. Plus, Ghost Poro and Zombie Ward aren't that good. However, Ravenous Hunter is great too.

Summoner's Spells

Teleport

It is the safest spell any top laner can bring, and is especially great for Camille. This is due to the fact that Camille is a great splitpusher. Also, it makes getting back to lane + roaming very easy. Ignite is also a possibility, but it doesn't offer this much versatility.

Flash

A necessity for any champion. Flash is a get out of jail free card, and a kill secure all in one. Also, it synergizes greatly with your Hookshot, since you can use Flash to shift your stun left or right. Please take it. Seriously.
It's too good to be left out.

Abilities

PASSIVE
ABILITY
Adaptive Defenses (Passive): When this passive is not on cooldown, Camille will analyze her foe and, on first attack, generate a shield based on the enemy's prominent damage type (either physical or magical). This passive rewards you for diving into the enemy back line, since you will end up soaking whatever damage your target has to deal. Additionally, this passive is great for trading in lane, due to the 20% max health shield you receive. Overall, you should only be engaging if you have this passive up, otherwise, you will take unnecessary damage.

Q
Precision Protocol (Q): On first cast, Camille will get extra range on her basic attack, plus bonus damage. On second cast, Camille will perform a sick backflip and deal true damage! This ability makes up a majority of Camille's damage, and boosts the damage she can do once you buy Tiamat. Also, Precision Protocol is the main reason why you buy Trinity Force as your first item. Not only does Sheen proc on the first cast, but it also functions on the second cast, dealing tons of damage. Use it to cancel your autos to stack Press the Attack even faster too. Finally, this ability also works on turrets, only improving her ability to splitpush and captialize on mistakes.

W
Tactical Sweep (W): Camille sweeps her leg and deals damage in a cone. Enemies in the outer half take extra damage and heal Camille. This ability isn't too much of a game changer, but it raises the difficulty of playing Camille. It's strength lies in the early game, with it being able to deal decent poke and sustain you as well. However, it also makes for a decent execution, since it deals max health damage. You can also cast this ability first, then use Hookshot to gain more range on the sweep. Overall, a decent move in Camille's kit.

E
Hookshot (E): Ah yes, Hookshot. This is the skill that makes Camille...Camille! She launches herself towards a wall, then lauches herself off of it and stunning any targets withing range. This ability has way too many uses: engage, disengage, gap closer, wall jumping, etc. Not only that, but if you hit a target, you gain additional attack speed, which synergizes with your Precision Protocol. Just...this ability is so fun to use, and very satisfying to land. I'll sum it up like this: This ability is fun to use, but it is essential that you and it in order to execute your plan.

R
Hextech Ultimatum (R): While leaping (and becoming untargetable), Camille creates a hexagonal area in which the target can not leave in ANY WAY POSSIBLE. This ability, coupled with Hookshot makes sure no low-health targets will leave alive. The intial kick blows enemies away, leaving you just with one person. Additionally, the extra magic damage allows you to execute targets swiftly. However, it is essential for you to know when to use it. If used to early, your enemy may escape. Too late, and you may die while still in the hexagon. Be wise when using it, otherwise, your sloppy technique will be punished. Note: On-cast, you can dodge incoming CC/damage. Useful.

Items

Item Sequence

Trinity Force 3333
Ravenous Hydra 3300
Ninja Tabi 1100
Guardian Angel 3200
Frozen Mallet 3100
Youmuu's Ghostblade 2700

With Our Powers Combined..!
Camille can use all of these stats to her advantage, making this item a necessity. However, you will see the biggest benefit from the Sheen boost. The spellblade passive is what makes this item so important, since the passive procs twice on both casts of Precision Protocol. Very useful, which is why grabbing Sapphire Crystal at the start can allow you to snowball early. Additionally, this is why some people who play tank Camille grab Iceborn Gauntlet instead. Overall, Trinity Force gives you the most bang for your buck.

Vicious Hydra
The alter ego of Titanic Hydra, Ravenous Hydra offers more dualing potential in sacrifice of tankiness. It provides AD, health regen, and lifesteal. Additionally, it provides the Cleave passive, allowing you to clear waves of minions extremely fast. Ultimately, you should always grab this item, but if you are behind/need to teamfight often, then grab Titanic Hydra instead. Otherwise, Ravenous Hydra is perfect for Camille and her diving nature.

Timbs
Boots should always be a part of your build, yet I forget them very often. Ninja Tabi
provide great armor and movement speed. Zoom zoom.

Savior
If you manage to get the last two items, you have now become a valuable asset to your team. Good job. With Guardian Angel, you are sure to still make a lasting impact after your death. The AD and armor it provides will ensure you are in the fight longer, which means you deal more damage and rack up more kills. Additionally, people act differently when you have the weird white thing around you. It's like they're...scared or something ;).

Iced Hammer
Not only does this item provide you with some solid health, but it also gives you a small boost in AD. However, the strongest asset Frozen Mallet provides is its passive. The slow makes you extremely sticky, since your Hookshot can keep you close. Why not make sure they stay close in between hookshots? Overall, it makes you a great duelist, and also makes it easier for you to trigger Hextech Ultimatum.

Nyoom Blade
At this point, you can straight up one-shot ADCS. Seriously. Now you have more AD plus 30% total CDR. Not only that, but now you have more movement speed, and an active that makes you even faster. You want to talk about the potential to stick to enemies? Oh yeah, don't forget about the free lethality you get as well. There's no stopping you if you get to here.

*Note* You may want to consider getting a tankier item like Abyssal Mask or Adaptive Helm to help out with MR. Consider replacing it with Frozen Mallet.

Overall Strategy

Early Game

Early game is all about picking out your opponents mistakes and capitalizing them with your damage output. Your first skill should be Tactical Sweep. The amount of sustain you can receive early game is very strong, making it a useful skill early on (even though you max it last).

Remember: CS > Kills. This shifts to Objectives > Kills later in the game, but this is early game. Don't be afraid to poke the enemy ( Adaptive Defenses makes sure you take little damage), but CS is very important early on. Dying to an enemy through trading will only make it worse off since you will lose so much CS. Camille is very item reliant, so this is a necessity.

If you want to trade with the enemy, your basic combo should be Hookshot> Precision Protocol>Auto Attack> Precision Protocol> Tactical Sweep out. Your passive will make sure you end up winning the trade regardless. You may even be able to all-in with your ult, if you are there yet.

Mana will be a problem for Camille, so don't poke too often, or else you will leave yourself in a vulnerable position. Wards will also come in handy.

Mid Game

Most likely, you will find yourself splitpushing. By now, you should have at least your two core items, so it should be a breeze. Casting Precision Protocol over and over again (when available) is essential for speedy clears. Don't forget that it also works on turrets to, so you can shred them as well.

The idea of splitpushing is to pull opponents away from where they are in order to deal with you. Most of the time, they will send 2-3 people, leaving the current objective open for your team. When they leave, you can either stay and fight, or hide and wait until they leave. I usually advise the second option, since 1v3's are very difficult, unless everyone is sqiushy.

In teamfights, your idea is to dive into the backline and cause trouble. You're almost like an off-assassin: You can one-shot people and tank some damage as well. However, you shouldn't dive in to initiate a fight. You will end up dying and leaving your team at a disadvantage. Instead, dive when the fight is ensuing, that way, everyone will be distracted and not notices your arrival.

Late Game

You job is still the same as mid game, except you should be looking to end the game now. Contest objectives, such as Dragons and Baron. Splitpushing at this point is probably not a good idea, unless you are pretty fed. This is due to the fact that they are either...
  1. Too tanky for it to matter ( Tahm Kench)
  2. Too strong to one-shot you ( Zed)
  3. Too grouped to 1v4 you

All in all, you should be looking to stick with your team, and destroy high-priority targets.

Not much changes from there. I will advise to grab a Mercurial Scimitar. The active is great for keeping you from being brutally murdered from hard CC.
