Introduction:

Renekton. My new favourite offtank. Renekton, Irelia and Nasus are my best offtanks, but why are they so amazing? Why Renekton over Irelia or Nasus? What are the reasons?

Proof of Concept:

Your Role:

You are a offtank *though sometimes, need to build alittle more "Tank" then offtank, depending on your teamcomp.*, that means you have 3 jobs.
1. Initiate with your tank.
2. Deal a **** load of damage.
3. Protect the carrys. *IE. You can jump+stun to save your ashe, or to kill theyre xin, which do you chose? The right anwser is save your ashe.*
Back to Top

Abilities:

  • Reign of Anger (Passive): Renekton gains 5 rage for every auto attack. Additionally, he gains 50% more rage per attack when he is below 50% health. *His source for rage. This will empower his abilities to do more damage. This is what makes him better then the cooldown based champs.*

    space
  • Cull the Meek (Q): Renekton swings his blade dealing physical damage to nearby enemies and healing for 5% of the damage dealt up to a cap. Heal amount is quadrupled against champions. Each target hit grants 5 Fury.

When Renekton has 50 or more Fury he deals 50% additional damage and heals for 10% of the damage dealt, the healing cap is tripled. Consumes 50 Fury.

Physical Damage: 60/90/120/150/180(+0.8 per bonus attack damage)
    Healing Cap: 50/75/100/125/150
Fury Empowered Physical Damage: 90/135/180/225/270(+1.2 per bonus attack damage)
    Fury Empowered Healing Cap: 150/225/300/375/450
*This ability is his source of sustainability. The more enemys/creeps you hit, the more you heal.*

    space
  • Ruthless Predator (W): Renekton’s next attack will swing twice dealing physical damage and stunning his target for 0.75 seconds. Each hit applies on-hit effects.

When Renekton has 50 or more Fury his next attack will swing three times dealing physical damage and stunning his target for 1.5 seconds. Consumes 50 Fury.

Physical Damage Per Swing: 5/15/25/35/45(+0.75 per attack damage)
*Keywords here, "PER SWING". This is also his source of cc, a very amazing ability.*

    space
  • Slice and Dice (E): Renekton dashes, dealing physical damage along the way.

When Renekton has 50 or more Fury Dice deals 50% additional damage and reduces the armor of targets hit for 4 seconds. Consumes 50 Fury.

Physical Damage: 30/60/90/120/150(+0.9 per bonus attack damage)
Fury Empowered Physical Damage: 45/90/135/180/225(+1.35 per bonus attack damage)
Fury Empowered Armor Reduction: 15/17.5/20/22.5/25 %
*Amazing ability. This is the key to harrass in lane, you jump in, harass, jump out.*

    space
  • Dominus (R): Renekton empowers himself with dark energies, gaining increased size and health for 15 seconds. While empowered, he deals magic damage to nearby enemies and generates 5 Fury per second.

    Health Gain: 300/450/600
Magic Damage Per Second: 40/70/100(+0.1 per ability power)
*His ult. It makes him tankier so he can initiate beter. Does aoe damage, and overall is a great ability. The problem is he can be kited out it.*
Back to Top

Skill Sequence:

R>Q>W>E

At level 1 you get up your W for the stun, incase a 1v1 fight starts or someone ganks your jungler/you gank theyre jungler. At level 2 you take your E for the double flash, it will save you incase of a level 2 jungle gank, or just for better harass. After that you do the R>Q>W>E order.

Why Q First? Because Q is your sustainability. When is sustainability most needed? Lanning phase, *IE. Levels 1-11 Usually*

Why W Secound and not E? Because the damage output from W surpasses E. The only real benefit to upgrading E over W is the armor reduction when you have 50 rage, but honestly the stun is more usefull then the armor reduction.

Masteries:

Offence:

I put one point in for the buff it gives in exhaust. No other real reason, the ignite buff does nothing for you *It rounds up to 1 more damage a secound on your ult*. The buff on exhaust just helps you be a stronger anti-carry.

Defence:

I put 21 points in here because honestly, the new defence tree is sweet.
Gives you 3% movespeed when above 70% health. Movespeed is amazing on Renekton. Without the movespeed masteries and runes hes to vulnerable to kiting.
Reduces damage taken by 1.5%, which can easily make or break some teamfights.
Reduces CC duration by 10% *Mini Mercs!* and increases your max HP by 3% *Renekton gets alot of HP*.
The defence tree is just so strong, theres no reason not to go all in to this tree, especially when playing such a tanky champ.

Utility:

I put 8 points in utility for the movespeed.
gives 2% more movespeed. Like I said with , movespeed is a wonderful thing on Renekton. If you dont agree, please try it first before you argue, its more helpful then you would think.

ALTERNATIVE MASTERIE PAGES:

21/9/0
21/0/9
9/21/0
0/21/9
All of the above do work, I just personaly feel like 1/21/8 is the best. I have personaly tried all of them, and feel like the one I have chosen is the strongest for Renekton.

Runes:

These are my rune choices, I know they look all over the place, so let me explain my choices.

Greater Quintessence of Swiftness: 3 of these become 4.5% movement speed boost. These *paired with masteries* gives Renekton, wich level 1 boots, is as fast as Twisted Fate with level 3 boots. It is hard to explain why movespeed is so important, but I can promis you that once you use these, you wont go back.
Replaceable with: Greater Quintessence of Desolation

Greater Mark of DesolationGreater Mark of Desolation: Armor pen, very important on Renek because everything he does is based off of physical damage. His auto attacks, his Q, W and E all do physical damage.
Replaceable with:

Greater Seal of VitalityGreater Seal of Vitality: Health Per Level. At level 18, these give 19.44 HP Each. 19.44x9=174.96 HP more. These ruins are VERY usefull on Renekton, they also aide at keeping his lategame strong.
Replaceable with: or

Greater Glyph of Shielding: Magic Resist Per Level. 24.3 more magic resist at level 18, which is nice because this build *Generally* has alittle more armor then magic resist.
Replaceable with:

NOTE: The replacements for the Seals and Glyphs are targeted towards more early game dominance. The runes I have chosen are targeted towards aiding your late game.

Summoner Spells:

TO USE:
This boosts your ability to be the anti-carry. With this, 1v1 top becomes a breeze as it nets you some kills, and in teamfights it lets you exhaust that AD Carry.

This spell nets you kills and secures kills. Ignite paired with Exhaust are a really strong combo, they allow you to easily 1v1 anyone on the same level as you *IE. 1v1 Solo Top.*
space
space
space
space
MAY USE:
Flash is a all around good spell on anyone. The ability to flash away, or flash in and get a kill, is just plain amazing. Renekton has a build in flash mechanism, so its not a "must", but it still is a amazing spell on him.

Very good on Renekton, makes it so you can catch up to those runners, or get away from a death. I especially like this on Renekton/Nasus because it allows you to not be kited from your ult.

All around amazing spell. Honestly, I think this is the best spell in the game, especially now that it cancels Ignite and Exhaust.

space
space
space
space
CAN USE:

Getting back to lain, getting to a teamfight or just defending an allied lane thats being pushed and unguarded. Good spell, but personaly I dont like running teleport on Renekton.

Jungle Renekton is plausible. Its not something you should always do, but its something that works if you already have a solo top champs and you dont wanna duo lane. His ganks are decent and all, the only problem is a) his jungle speed isnt the greatest and b) he will lack farm

space

Core Items:

+ 3 HP pots are your starting items. Honestly, I dont upgrade boots till later, the reason is with these runes and masteries, your movespeed with level 1 boots is 405. That is faster then most people with movespeed 2 boots. By starting with boots, this allows your harrass to be amazingly stronger. Being able to lane 2 or 3 more auto attacks when they are running from your harrass is so strong.

Gives you Health, AD and the slow. That slow, like with the movespeed, will aide you alot. I dont upgrade this till abit later tho.

The Brutaliser Cooldown Reduction, AD and armor pen. This items makes your damage skyrocket because 3 of your spells scale off ad, and they all deal physical damage.

*NOTE: Dont Get This Till Later.*: This items finalises your armor, which is already pretty decent, and gives you a great AD boost because of all the health this build has. You may not see the AD boost being that effective in your auto attacks, but I assure you it is very effective because it stacks with 3 of your abilitys.

Situational Items:

Being an offtank, you have MANY different paths you may take.

If they have any AD, I get this. Armor helps you fight those AD champs, the health helps your tankyness and stacks with Atmas. The passive is great also, it stacks very well with your ult.

Discuss this item with your teams full on tank. If he is getting it, great, gives you room for another epic item. If not *or if your the tank.* then get it. Health, AD, Armor, Magic Resist, 3 of which are in aura form to help your teamates. Teamfights just got easier.

Health, Magic Resist and a great passive. I get this in replacement of Aegis normaly when the tank wants it, or in replacement of Sunfire Cape if they're team is super AP heavy.

If they're team is super ap heavy, to the point where armor does nothing, this plus banshee's veil is a strong way to counter them.

Ever heard of Atmogs? Its this idea that if you get a Warmogs and a Atma's Impaler, you will have aton of health, AD and armor. It is so your damage output stays high but you get some survivability. This is my Atmallet build. It gives more AD then Atmogs does, gives you a slow when attacking, but gives slightly less health *But your other health items make up for it*

If you want to go Atmogs and not Atmallet, then go Atmogs and get this Trinity Force. It gives all around amazing stats.

If you refuse to go atmallet, like I said, get this with Trinity Force. Personaly I do not recomend this. Warmogs is SEVERLY overprices for the stats it gives. Honestly Atmallet is the way to go, trust me and try it. Warmogs + Trinity are to expensive and will slowdown your build.

Youmuu's Ghostblase If the game gets to super lategame, you may want to upgrade your brutaliser into this item. Its base stats and active are very usefull. You use the active usually at the same time you use your up, this way you cant be kited out of it, and become an insane source of damage during the durations.

If you do not want the ghostblade, this is your replacement. I usually hate this item and feel that it is overated, but honestly it works on Renekton for the following reasons.
1. The passive stacks with his W's slashs. If you have 50 rage, his W stuns and deals 3 attacks rapidly, each attack stacks with Black Cleaver, so you instantly reduce they're armor by 45.
2. You have 3 abylitys that all deal physical damage.

A amazing item that gives well rounded defence stats and a great passive. My problem with this is, as the tank/offtank, you want to be targeted. You want them to go for you and not your squishies... who wants to target someone with 3.5k hp and Guardian Angel? Anwser, no body. Only build Guardian Angel if you already have a tank and a offtank, so your free to be the source of damage.

I never get this. It could work in a game were you are facing 4-5 AD's.

These boots are my favorite boots on Renekton. The majority of his damage comes from his abilitys, so being able to spam them is great.

If they are CC heavy, Merc Treads are the way to go. Merc Treads plus the last masterie in the defence tree gives him 45% cc reduction.

Ninja Tabi's Ever since the new change to dodge boots, I find these boots very good. If they are ad heavy *AD top, AD jungle and Ranged AD bot* then get these. The beauty of these is not just the armor, but the 10% Damage Reduction is amazing.

Atmallet VS Atmogs + Trinity:

VS

space
Here I would like to explain why I go Atmallet instead of Atmogs + Trinity.
Atmallet and Atmogs are about the same price. Atmogs gives 300 more hp *600 more with full stacks*, and atmallet gives more AD and a slow. Now let me argue with you and persuade you to think my way.

space1.Atmallet gives more AD plus a slow for less health, but you still have so many other hp source items.

space2.The slow is amazing on a offtank because it allows you to stick to your target easier.

space3.For Atmogs to have the slow, they need to buy Trinity Force. Another 4k gold spent on a slow that isnt as good.

space4.When you build straight Warmogs, you become useless for the duration. Your spending over 3k gold on pure HP, your spacedamage falls behind and you become useless for about 10 minutes of the game

space5.When you build straight Frozen Mallet, you gain AD and health the whole way plus a early slow, meaning your damage
spaceand utility doesent fall behind during the duration.

space6.Going Atmogs + Trinity uses more item slots, and is far to expensive.

For those reasons, Atmallet is the better choice. Yes Atmogs + Trinity gives more DPS and HP then Atmallet, but with that extra item slow you could get Aegis and aide your whole team, or build GA and become industructable.

Gold Per 10?:

"Hey Sunli Min. Im a troll and am gonna downvote your build because, when I play Irelia I get abunch of gold per 10 items, and you arnt getting any. You suck, downvoted lawls"

Please dont be the guy above, let me explain.

Yes, I to play Irelia and Nasus with HoG and philosopher's stone Philo. Stone, but I have a very good reason for not doing that on Renekton.

Early. Game. Domination.

I dont build Garen with aton of gp10 items, and neither should Renekton, the reason is because, unlike Irelia and Nasus, Renektons strongest momments are early game, so sending him back 1500 gold at the start, tho "worth it" after 25ish minutes, isnt worth it for Renekton. He needs that 1500 gold at the start to aide his domination, he will make up for the potential gold in kills and farm.
Building Gold per 10 items on him just slow him down to much.

Combo:

Harrass Combo:

E*In*-W-Q-E*out*
The beauty of this combo is it allows your to hit him, heal any minion fire you may receive, stun him so he cant hurt you back, and get out before his stun ends. When you learn to do this right, you will the king of solo top.

Going for it:

E*In*-R-W-Q-*Keep auto attacking*-Exhaust-Ignite-E*Direction He is heading*-Spam Q and W.
I know thats unorganised, but its pretty much ult/jump in, stun and do as much damage as possible, exhaust after stun is up.

Tips for Top.

Renekton is a very strong solo top. His harrass is strong and so is his entire early game-mid game. To dominate you do the harras combo I stated above, and farm.

space1. You can play aggresive because you have exhaust and a flash out if they do end up winning.

space2.Farm with your auto attacks and your Q. You have no mana so dont fear spamming it, it is your sustainability spell,
spaceso use it.

space3.Keep your bush warded. They're jungler is your only true fear, so as long as your safe from him, you should have a
spacepretty easy time.

space4.If a ranged AD carry is top, you have the right to be scared. Ranged champs are his enemys top. Im not saying you
spacecant do it, im saying if they have a Cait, or worst off, a Teemo top, play smart.

space5.If its 2v1 up at top, then just play more passive. Lasthit under turret and ask your jungler to gank.

Duo Bot:

If someone else calls top and your forced to bot, you can do that to. I personaly enjoy going top bot because of the free farm, but bot can be extremly rewarding.

spaceYou should still focus on lasthits, tho you will most likely be forced to share them.

spaceCommunicate with you teamate, ping when your going for something, let him know whats going on.

Honestly its pretty simular to solo top. Just play like you normaly would, just with a teammate and more coordination.

Jungle Renekton?: *Not Yet made. Will make after jungle changes are done.*

Yes, Jungle Renekton. No this isnt a troll pick, it is plausible and viable, just not the best choice. My argument for doing this is, if your gonna pick a solo top champ, go solo top. If your gonna pick a jungler, go jungle. Mixing there strongs with they're weak spots isnt efficient.

NOTE: I WILL WRITE THIS SECTION WHEN THE NEW JUNGLE CHANGES ARE MADE.

Conclusion:

Renekton is a very strong champ, and this is how I play him. If you have any concern, questions or comments, please leave a comment below. If you liked this build, please upvote :) Its always appreciated!

I will come back often and update. Happy hunting!
