Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Akali is a champ with very high mobility and strong hit resets.
Her ult has 2 - 1 sec cd and she gets extra movement speed after using it.
Buy some magic resist, try the lvl 2/3 engage and get Oracle Alteration. (Better play safe)
Cho'Gath
Cho'Gath got a knock up and a scilence wich is very annoying. Rengar can dodge the knock up easily if he farms out of a bush -> go into a bush and do the minion last hits by jumping on the minions.
You can use the jumps to dodge Cho'Gath's abilities and engage after taht.
You can do the lvl 2/3 engage to get his flash because you will need some ganks against this very tanky and hard to kill champ.
Darius
Darius is very strong against Rengar, because he got the auto hits with extra bleeding dmg already in lvl 1.
Darius is a lane bully who doesnt need much mana for his abilities, he is very tanky and his (Q) with low cd heals him for every single champion (from his enemy team) in his range.
My tipp: do never try long trades, he will do every thing to get his 5 bleeding stacks on you - he will pull you, he will slow you, and if you have the 5-hits-mark over your head Darius will use his ult and deal true dmg and you will get more dmg by the bleeding stacks. Darius got only one good thing - he has no escape. Wait for your jungler to gank and kill him.
Dr. Mundo
Against Mundo you should dodge his (Q)-> Magic Damage: 15 / 17.5 / 20 / 22.5 / 25% of target's current health
He deals huge magic dmg and has almost no cd on his ult. Try the early kill and wait for a gank.
Ekko
Ekko got some nice dmg but he cant really trade with Rengar because of the battle roar (W) that gives you health back. Try dodge his (Q), do the early poke and engage. If he is lvl 6, dont kill him too fast and watch ou for his stun area. You got to kill him (after lvl 6) slowly...
Fiora
Fiora is one of the strongest top laners. She counters Rengar because she always got a re- engage with huge dmg. She got a short but quick dash with low cd and an ability that can counter every bad effect on the champion and every dmg she gets for 0.75 sec. -> she got an ability that can counter 5 enemy ults AT ONCE.
In the very early game you can try to do the poke and the lvl 2/3 engage. Almost forgot her ult - If Fiora clicked on you after pressing (R) there will be a large circle around you that is divided into 4 parts. After she hit you one time each side, you will have gotten some huge dmg and the circle will heal Fiora now.
Gangplank
GP doesnt have much cc and his powder kegs can be destroyed by a jump out of the bush - really eays to counter
Garen
Garen is tanky but not in lvl 1. Do the early poke and the lvl 2/3 engage as i explained in my table of contents, kill him early and never stop to penetrate this retarded champ. You can use the battle roar (W) to stop his passive (hp regen. if he didnt get hit from enemy champ for the last seconds) The Black Cleaver will help to fight him.
Gnar
Gnar can counter Rengar very hard but most of the time people dont know how to play Gnar. When Gnar hits you with an ability or an auto hit the third time, he will deal 14% of max. health as magical dmg. Also Gnar got very much CC in his mega form that he gets by doing auto hits or using abilities. With his ult he can throw you against a wall, you get stunned for a long time and get extra dmg. Never fight Gnar in his mega form, try to snare him with your (E) when he got low rage (the red bar under his hp) -> when he is mini Gnar.
Heimerdinger
Heimerdinger will suk arround with his turrets on lane. You can do the poke, the lvl 2/3 engage and wait for good situations to fight him - he cant trade you melee, he wants you to stay in range but not right infront of him. Heimer is squishy, go a bit tanky and kill him while you ignore his turrets. If Heimer went base, use the time to destroy his turrets even if he will make new ones when hes back on lane.
Illaoi
You can jump on her tentacles, destroy them and u have a really easy game if you dodge Illaoi's skill shots.
But watch out for her ult - it does retarded dmg and gives her life steal
Irelia
Better nerf Irelia!
This champ is still way too strong, extremely mobile like a new yasuo top lane and got a high range stun. In the early game you have good chance winning trades and crushing her if you avoid getting hit by her stun. Later on in the game it will be more and more difficult to deal any dmg to Irelia until shes just gonna destroy you, no matter how many kills you have or how much ad you built. She is always gonna go trinity first and then steraks gage or titanic hydra which gives her way too much dmg why buying almost no ad but you just cant deal any dmg to her anymore.
So try to kill her early and avoid her as the game goes on or you just die lol.
Jax
Jax usually is Rengar's hardest counter - thats what i thought til i understood what to do.
You have to wait for his (E) with this ability he dodges your auto hits and your (Q), while he dodges he can hit you with auto hits or his (W) that does hard magical dmg! When hes i done with the dodging, he stuns you.
But this is the only ability from jax that counters you. If he activated his (E) and is about to jump on you, run in bush and jump on a minion, so that you are out of his range to jump.
After that you can trade him. The lvl 2/3 engage works aswell if you wait for his (E), you make him use it or if he simply doesnt have his (E) in lvl 1.
(Buy Merkury's Treads against Jax!!)
Jayce
Jayce gets used as ranged champ so he is strong pick for the top lane. He will try to penetrate you with ranged auto hits or ranged abilities. The problem with Jayce is, that he is also a good melee fighter who can push you away if you get near him. Try to get more farm, try to do the lvl 2/3 engage and dodge his ranged abilities(the bushes will help you).
Kayle
Kayle may have ranged attacks and a slow thats all no problem for Rengar - you can do the lvl 2/3 engage and the poke because this champ got a heal as an ability, kayle is bad in trading melee and you can outtrade her ult and do the counter ult under tower - after you killed her, press (W) to survive the enemy turret (i mean - it worked before the rework)
Kennen
Kennen is not that easy to outplay on the top lane, try to dodge his thundering shuriken (Q) and he will have much cc and at lvl 6 and he got even more and faster cc (his ult!)
Kha'Zix
Kha'Zix got almost the same abilities, he just deals more dmg. You have to do the poke dmg all the time on lane and you should always stay with your minions - if you are isolated kha will do more dmg to you. Trades against kha'zix are difficult because he can escape easily or make himself invisible 2 to 3 times. Play carefully, wait for ganks.
Kled
Kled has been a champ that i banned every game - especially when he was new or free to play.
Kled got this passive called Skaarl - he rides on a monster and has 1000 hp and more in lvl 1. If you deal enough dmg to Skaarl, he will run away and Kled will have like 20% hp. If u dont get the gank to the right time or you cant kill Kled for the next minute, he will do some auto hits or abilities and get all the health back! retard champ???
Anyways you wont have an easy laning phase, better play safe.
Lee Sin
Lee Sin got some strong combos - they dont work that good if you dodge his (Q). With his ult and (Q) he can give you hard dmg and push you away. DMG that you coud counter with QSS but you shouldnt build QSS against Lee.
Lee Sin got some nice escapes with his (W) safe guard (he dashes to one of his team mates or a ward).Dodge his (Q), fight him early but watch out - escaping against Lee is almost impossible!
Malphite
Malphite can be very annoying in the late game - if you let him. With Malphite you can easily do the early poke dmg and the lvl 2/3 engage with exhaust. The harder as you destroy him in the early game with the black cleaver, the better will be your team fights in the late game.
Maokai
Maokai is a very tanky champ that doesnt get picked really often. But if he gets picked you have to be careful. He can dash to you, slow you and he takes almost takes 0 dmg when he activates his ult. You can try to do the lvl 2/3 engage but this champ is almost unkillable.
Master Yi
Master Yi can be used as a roaming machine and get fed if he is away. If he stays on the top lane, watch out for his (Q) and his (E) the (E) will do true dmg on hit.
If you trade him and and he uses his ult - try not to get hit and run to bush til his ult is over, after that you can trade him much better. My tipp: get life steal (but not as first item) or do the lvl 2/3 engage.
Mordekaiser
Watch out for his third auto hit (hurts badly) - play safe or else his dmg will rekt you. Try keeping the trades as quick as possible to prevent taing too many auto hits.
Nasus
Nasus has a weak early game and a very powerful late game. Try to do the lvl 2/3 engage and dont let him farm! Against Nasus get the black cleaver, the ninja tabis and much lethality/life steal. Else he will stack you like a minion...
Olaf
Olaf is one of the champs i banned every game. This guy gets more attack speed the lower he drops, he got life steal + attack speed as an ability, he got the point and click true dmg, he got the axe that slows and just needs to pick it up and it has no cooldown. With his ult Olaf cannot get stunned/slowed/taunted/... anymore and gets even more dmg and movement speed. And with all that he is still tanky. In the early game when he doesnt have all of his abilities you can try to trade him. On the other hand you can try just to farm and wait for a gank.
Pantheon
Pantheon IS your worst nightmare. While you try to farm he will throw his spear shot and you get so much dmg that you cant farm anymore. He also got this annoying completely broken passive: After applying 4 basic attacks or abilities, Pantheon blocks the next incoming basic attack from an enemy champion, large minion, large monster or turret. If Pantheon got 2 or 3 kills he will easily tower dive you with his passive. He got an ability to jump on a target and instantly stun it after that. Then he will use his heartseeker strike that does crit dmg and throw the spear again and again. My tipp: ping whenever you dont see him on the top lane, write it in the chat and ping every where, because when he goes roaming, he gets the kills and you will have the problem.
Poppy
You will have an easy game against Poppy if you dont stand near walls so Poppy cant cc you for a long time, in the early game she is still squishy and easy to kill but do not underestimate her cc and passive shield combo - she does deal a good ammount of dmg for a tank.
Quinn
Quinn is good against the usual tanky top laners but with Rengar you still have a chance to kill her and win your lane. Get ninja tabis and the black cleaver and you can trade her if you can reach her. Your advantage is the mobility that you get with the lane - 3 bushes!
Renekton
Renekton is just one of Rengars nightmares. He got the tankyness, he got the dmg, the (Q) that heals him if he has one full bar of fury, a 1.5 sec stun as auto hit, a dash that can be used 2 times if he hits one of your minions or if he hits you. When you think you almost got him he will activate his ult and get more health.
You can try to trade him if you are lvl 3 and he is lvl 2. Wait for his stun and that the fury bar is not filled to the half.
Riven
Riven can counter Rengar pretty hard becaue she got a lot cc and low cooldowns. But you can outplay Riven, if you do it right the matches against her will be easier. In the early game you wait for her (Q) that she can use three times (the third time is the knock up) then you do the lvl 1 poke and the lvl 2/3 engage as fast as you can (dont forget to exhaust her). You use the bushes to outplay Riven - everytime she is about to trade you with her (Q), run into the next bush and jump on a minion that is far away from her. If you have the black cleaver before Riven gets it, the trades will be easier for you.
Rumble
Rumble (the mage without mana) is already early tanky, and does a lot of magic dmg. You can try to do an early engage but be careful, his fire does retarded auto hit dmg if the bar under his hp is full. Play safe and wait for a gank.
Ryze
Ryce is a strong enemy for Rengar because he got a point and click binding, no cd on his ranged (Q) and goes tanky really fast. Try to kill him early and wait for ganks.
Shaco
Shaco is hard to trade if you play against him top. He can use his (Q) as flash, he can trade you easy but you can do the early kill, play safer til late game or wait for a gank, if shaco pushes hard when your gank comes, instantly after shaco used his (Q) use your ult to counter that. You can also buy Oracle Alteration to win trades.
Shen
You can kill Shen in the early game if you dodge his taunt and dont attack him when he has his dmg-blocking field - his (E)
Singed
Singed is just an annoying champ who goes proxy farming (if he ever played this champ before). If Singed does the proxy farm, he will wont miss a single cs and kill you in the trades if follow him. Try to ping for a gank and go for magic resist - You cant simply fight this champ solo.
Sion
Sion is very tanky, especially with his (W) passive -> he gets hp when he farms. Try do do an early kill and buy Lord Dominic's Regards after you bought The Black Cleaver.
Swain
Swain got some nice poke dmg and a rooting ability. Trading with a Swain will get a serious problem if he uses his ult. After his rework, Swain got some strong poke with his (E) - (Q) combo so if you can dodge the (E) -which looks a bit like Ahris (Q)- you can get a good trade and heal his (Q)-dmg back because its point and click instant dmg. Try fighting him with you being lvl 2 and him being lvl 1 and hes mostly gonna flash out becouse of his lack of mobility and cc in that lvl.
Teemo
Teemo/Satan is really annoying on lane but if you wait for his (Q) -> blind, you can trade him or do the lvl 2/3 engage.
My tipp if you have to play against teemo, go buy Oracle Alteration to clear his shrooms.
Trundle
Trundle is one of the most annoying champions. He can knock you up and slow you, he is extremely tanky, goes for life steal and attack speed and he can easily double his AD by biting you -> he got retarded dmg in lvl 1. Trading with a Trundle is suicide if you arent fed.
You better play safe or wait for a gank.
Tryndamere
Do the lvl 1 poke as i described in my Table of Contents, then the lvl 2/3 engage - but watch out for his passive crit that he gets by doing auto hits, if the red line under his health is low you can do better engages and take less dmg
Vladimir
Vladimir may be annoying but you can do the lvl 2/3 engage to get his flash/first blood, in the mid and late game he will get more tanky and he will escape more often with his sanguine pool (W) - kill him early!
Volibear
Volibear, the bear who never gets low hp. Try to get his passive out with a lvl 2/3 engage. Watch out for his (W) after he did 3 auto hits he can bite you and deal huge dmg! You better dont trade him near his turret because he would pull you in his turret with his (Q). Go for the black cleaver first and if he trys to escape with his passive, catch him with your full stacked (E).
Wukong
Wukong is easily killed with the lvl 1 poke and the lvl 2 engage, you have good chances against this champ also because wukong got mana, poke him and trade him to death!
Xin Zhao
Xin Zhao is a really strong enemy laner because of his abilities.
He can dash to you, he uses his (W) to do crit and life steal on every third hit (what is completely broken) he can knock you up and he reduces your armor (15%) the first three seconds he fights you.
Better play safe, get the ninja tabis and wait for a gank.
Yasuo
Yasuo sux against Rengar in the early game, especially on the top lane - you can carefully try to do the early poke, dodge his (Q) and do safe engage if you are lvl 3/4 or higher.
Yorick
Yorik is a strong enemy, he got autohit resets that heal him, he can make a circular wall of spirits to keep you in place and his ult deals -Ranged!- dmg per second.
Try the early kill, you wont have many chances to get him.
Zed
Zed doesnt have much cc, dodge his (Q) or simply stay behind your wave when hes uses his (Q), you can try the poke and engage but watch out for his passive -> extra magical dmg if you have under 50% health (and watch out for his (Q) lel) Rengar deals more dmg in the early game than zed.
Camille
Camille got abilities with high damage and very low cd in the late game. If you play against Camille you should always stay safe because of her dash which she can use to attack and stun or to run away. Try to farm under turret and ask for a gank.
Nautilus
Nautilus is usually played as support because of his cc but he can also be a top laner if you want so. He can root a target by auto attacking it o be careful and try to keep the poke and engages quick. He deals a good amount of damage with his abilities (and AAs) even though he is a tank. By buying phage first you can make the quick poke/engage safer and you can run away from his (E). So get level 2 as soon as possible and try the classic engage but first without exhaust because you probably cant kill him with one all-in. Keep your exhaust so that you have it when you are losing a fight, when the jungler ganks or when you when you are sure that the engage shall kill him. Also watch out for his shield (E).
Jarvan IV
J4 is a pretty strong top laner with some nice dmg on his (Q) and AA which makes it hard to trade him in the early game - so wait for your (W) every time you wanna engage. Apart from that watch out for his shield and his (R) which traps you for a few seconds. Exhaust him when you see him going for an all-in.
Urgot
For Urgot you just have to watch out for some things - the first point is that you should not push your wave in and then try to trade/poke him near his turret because he can easily use his (E) to dash towards you and just pull you over afterwards like voli/singed. You might end up under his turret tanking these shots while urgot gives himself a shield and some extra dmg with his (W). The second points is that you wanna wait for his (w)/ poke his (w) out -like you jump on him, he thinks you are going all-in and then you just go back in another bush- before you can go for a longer trade and deal more but take less dmg. The third point is that you shouldnt fight him when you only got like 30% hp cuz if he hits his ult on you and deals enough dmg in the next few seconds, youre just going to get executed by this champ.
So my tip is to get ahead early when he doesnt have his ult yet and maybe get lvl 2 before him, poke his (W) out when you are close to lvl 2 and give him the all-in with -Your- (W) to heal you after you took dmg.
Ornn
When playing against Ornn, your chances to win a trade are pretty low because of his dash-and-cc (E) and his huge shield with percentage dmg (W). In addition to that he is pretty tanky, even in the early game. So its better if you just do quick pokes several times but not push to hard and get ganked by the enemy jungler. Instead try to play a bit safer and concentrate on your cs in the early game and ask for a gank (probably best when you have your Black Cleaver)
Warwick
Warwick just doesnt have to greatest kit for a lane - until lvl 6 he only has 2 abilities that really help him to do anything: his (Q) to heal him and do ome dmg and his (E) to reduce dmg on him and afterwards fear units near him. You simply out-damage him in the early game, you can zone him off the farm and do the lvl 2/3 engage with exhaust but remember to ward if you push him under his turret.
It has been a while now since the Assassine Update and there are new changes to the game and thus, many new possibilities.
How to make Rengar a strong laner and how to use the new runes effectively, i will explain in my guide.
Enjoy and take your time to experience Rengar :)
Exhaust TOP? - Summoner Spells
I hear this question quite often and now I want to explain it in my guide.
My build and my way to play fit to gether very well. I pick Exhaust top because
• Rengar doesnt have much cc and Rengar doesnt have a good escape (without a bush or his ult) - Exhaust slows
• If you get ganked and you see no way to get out or kill your enemies, Exhaust helps by slowing a target -> and reducing its dmg if you already get attacked
• In team fights in the late game Exhaust is extremely powerful as it takes 40% of the damgage of the champion that you exhausted
So Exhaust can be used aggressively to catch and kill an enemy or defensively to escape if you lose a fight or you get chased.
You can do the classic lvl 2 (or 3) engage, when you have full ferocity (-> stacks)
means: get full stacks and lvl 2/3 (before your enemy reaches lvl 2), jump on him, while you are in the jump you press (Q) and exhaust the enemy, after you jumped on him you do an auto hit, then (Q) again and (W) and more autohits
for short: get stacks, get lvl 2 or 3, jump on enemy champ, exhaust enemy champ, do (Q), auto hit, (Q), (W), auto hits... and the next (Q) (if your enemy didnt already Flash
With this tactic you get the enemy's Flash or first blood.
The first blood is even safer if u do poke dmg in lvl 1 (do it when there is still the first minion wave) you go in a bush, jump on your enemy, the first hit is done by just jumping on the target, after that press (Q) for the auto hit reset and more dmg (but dont let him trade you!)
do this 2 or 3 times and the engage will have more succes.
If he flashes or you get first blood you will have safer farm, get the items faster and do more kills.
Other Summoner Spells
Teleport definitely is a spell you can take for Rengar top but then there is the question - what do you do in the early and mid game if you have (for example) Renekton as enemy laner and you completely lose your lane? Of course you could Teleport bot lane and try to gank there but you cannot stop Renekton or win a trade against him. You eventually get completely destroyed and ganked/dived - Exhaust gives you more control over the lane and your enemy. Maybe if you feel so comfortable that you dont need Exhaust, you can just take Teleport.
In the early and mid game Ignite might deal some damage but it does almost nothing in the late game as everydody has more hp. In most cases Ignite wont help you as much when you want to win a fight - it helps you if you are already ahead but if you fall behind as an Assassin, Ignite is just for fun or useless on Rengar top in my opinion.
If you feel like you can stomp your opponent easily, Ignite might be vailable.
Runes explained
As the primary path i chose Resolve and as a secondary path i went with Domination:
Resolve:
Grasp Of The Undying
When you play Rengar top you can use these bushes as an advantage - Poke. Every 4 seconds your next autohit will deal bonus magic dmg (equal to 4% of your max health), heal you (for 2% of your max health) and permanently increase your health by 5.
In the very early game this rune in combination with Sudden Impact will deal some nice dmg and makes your poke even stronger. You basically save your early game with Grasp of the Undying.
Bone plating
Bone Plating gives you great potential for early trades which Rengar can do pretty good. After you take damage from an enemy champion their next three spells or attacks against you deal 20-50 less damage (at levels 1-18) so you can just get some stacks ready and jump at your enemy - but watch out for ganks or minion agro.
Conditioning
This simple rune will simply grant you some extra tankyness so that you dont get one-shot after you jump in 4 enemies. Hopefully you dont actually do this but it adds some extra resistances. With Conditioning you gain +8 armor and +8 magic resist (and your armor + magic resist will be increased by 5%) after 10 minutes.
Unflinching
Unflinching is a good rune to escape for example if the enemy jungler ganks your lane and slows you then both of your summoner spells can help you even more as you gain Tenacity and Slow Resistance for a short duration after casting a spell.
In addition to this you gain Tenacity and Slow Resistance for each summoner spell on cooldown.
Domination:
Sudden Impact
Sudden Impact is a great rune that was practically made for Rengar. After exiting stealth, using a dash, blink or Teleport, damaging a champion grants 10 Lethality and 8 Magic Penetration for the next 5 seconds. As i already explained, this rune works well as poke but also after using your (R) Thrill of the Hunt if you want to do a classic all-in.
Ravenous Hunter
Ravenous Hunter shall help you in many ways - it gives you more sustain on lane and in fights. You heal for 2.5% (+2.5% for each unique champion takedown) of the damage you deal with your abilities (but healing is reduced by one third for AoE abilities :/) . The takedown-thing is favorable for Rengar as he has to get these kills anyways to get all stacks for his passive Bonetooth Necklace. Another reason why i chose this rune is that you can get 30% healing from your abilities (10% with AoE) -which is a LOT- if you buy Death's Dance.
These Runes I got for my guide are giving Rengar a lot of sustain and power to trade which makes them (in my opinion) the most effective ones.
Im using the Resolve path with Grasp of the Undying as key stone - this literially steals the enemy's hp and gives you bonus magic dmg (+4% of Rengars max health) every 4 seconds in combat. This goes really well with Sudden Impact (a burst of Lethality and Magic Penetration after Rengar jumps) which also got 4 seconds cooldown - so every 4 second when you are in combat you have a very strong poke or engage and the healing works well with Ravenous Hunter. It works just like Rengars passive Bonetooth Necklace and gives you 2.5% + 2.5% healing on abilities per unique champion kill.
Furthermore, i take Conditioning and Second Wind to gain some overall tankyness during the trades and finally im using Demolish to take the turret down asap so that i can roam and help my team and get more objectives.
The key stone rune becomes much more useful with your first item Black Cleaver and all the other items in my build are supported by the runes to get the max effect out of it, for example the Duskblade of Draktharr goes well with Sudden Impact and Ravenous Hunter goes well with Death's Dance.
This path of masteries helps you in the laning phase with tankyness and life steal, it gives you more sustain on the lane to outscale your enemy.
Jumping Kitten - How to use the Bushes
The guide is called like this because that is how i play Rengar and i think thats the best way to make use out of this champion.
Its about Rengars passive (the Ferocity) - you walk into a bush and then you can leap on an enemy unit (wards, champions, turrets, etc) in a certain radius.
This ability allows Rengar to get super high mobility on lane and its also that what makes Rengar top viable.
You use the leap to farm cuz you can easily reach any minion out of the bush and also zone your enemy laner - therefore i buy Phage first which gives Rengar even more mobility as he gets faster into the bushes and this indirectly increases his attackspeed if the leap is rather short and repeated often (for example while farming).
The phage's(later black cleaver's) Movement Speed also adds on to the extra MS that Rengar gets by using his empowered abilities.
The reason why Black Cleaver is so good to build first on Renger is that he lives from his cdr and during trades he can easily get the 6 armor-shredding stacks off because he can jump so many times on the top lane and everytime get back into that bush even faster cuz of the phage passive (as i just said). Its like this item was made just for Rengar.
Moreover you can use the leap with empowered (W) (or sometimes just the leap) to get to your target faster, escape or to dodge some skill shots (you can also just dodge stuff by jumping out of the bush or waiting for the enemy to cast the ability so that you have enough time to react and easily dodge the shot)
Everytime when you have 0 ferocity stacks you simply gotta jump out of a bush to get the first one, this even works in combat. But i would not engage without at least 3 stacks of ferocity if im not 100% sure that i win the trade, only in lvl 1 or 2 you can jump in with 1 or 2 stacks if you wanna make it a quick poke and not get destroyed by surprise.
Another tip would be to
use bushes to chase as long as your enemy is in range because just running after your target wont work as good cuz Rengar got an AA range of 125 which is the lowest (with some other champs) range in game. To make it clear, you if you can use a bush to catch up on your opponent, just do it - dont just run after him like a dog and follow your enemy under the turret cuz Rengar got an auto attack range like a T-rex.
It would be good if you can hit your (E) first when you and your enemy are close to a bush, then you have more time to walk in there and still have him in range (which is 725 and definitely way better than 125).
This means that when ever you get the chance to trade in some bushes (and the enemies have no vision in the best case) you will have a nice advantage.
Zoning your opponent works pretty well (when you are ahead) because you have so much range in the bushes. As you last hit out of the bush that is the closest to the minions you wanna farm and the enemy laner's tier 1 turret, you can just jump on your enemy as he tries to somehow last hit his farm and punish him for that mistake. The minions will usually never get out of your leap range and so the enemy is forced to come into that range where you can get him or he decides to miss all cs and maybe even experience.
But NEVER FORGET TO WARD that jgl or you will get ganked a lot and probably die cuz its really hard to keep all that in mind, always react to your laner's actions correctly and watch the map every few seconds.
Well, even if its hard and takes some practice, it is really helpful for everybody if you have map awareness and that you can track the enemy jgl and help out if your jungler/ mid laner needs some help near you.
Pros / Cons With this Build (and runes)
With this build and the way to play we got some Pros and Cons!
• His Passive ability Unseen Predator to jump from a bush on an enemy got now 725 range
• His full Ferocity stacks that he gets by attacking an enemy with an ability are reached with 4 stacks. If you are out of combat (6 sec in wich he doesnt take or deal any dmg) his stacks will instantly disappear or after Rengar used an empowered ability the stacks will disappear as well and he gets increased Movement Speed by 30/40/50 % for 1.5 seconds. If Rengar leaps on an enemy after he (Rengar) was out of of combat(or just has 0 stacks), he will gain 1 Ferocity just by the jump - use this to gain full stacks faster in combat (leap on a target+ Q,E,W = full Ferocity).
If you have all 4 stacks, your next ability (except R/Ult) is empowered: Q, W and E will deal more damage and each of them has an extra effect which i will explain in the following context.
• With the Bonetooth Necklace you can get 5 trophies by killing an unique enemy champion + you have to take 1 sec dmg from him before he dies by your attacks. Above your items you will see all the enemy champions you havent killed yet. The Trophies will give you:
- 1 Kill: 1% Bonus AD
- 2 Kills: 4% Bonus AD
- 3 Kills: 9% Bonus AD
- 4 Kills: 16% Bonus AD
- 5 Kills: 25% Bonus AD
( The Head of Kha'Zix: 36% Bonus AD)
• His (Q) Savagery will empower the next AA and grant you extra attack speed for the next 2 AAs.
The empowered (Q) will deal significantly more dmg and increase your attackspeed by 50% for the next few seconds.
[need new picture...]
• The Battle Roar (W) heals Rengar for 50% of the damage he took in the last 1.5 seconds and the damage healed from monster attacks is increased by 75%.
The empowered (W) removes existing crowd control effects in additions to its normal heal.
• The (E) Bola Strikeslows for up to 90%. The empowered (E) roots/snares one enemy.
• Thrill of the Hunt (R):
While active, Rengar gains 40% Movement Speed and vision of the nearest enemy champion who he can leap to for a guaranteed critical strike. Attacking or casting most spells end Thrill of the Hunt. If you use your ult you will always instantly get the movement speed but there is a range in that you are visible in (works like evelynn's passive). If you dont have vision (for example) in the enemy jgl and you use Thrill of the hunt, you will only be able to see the champion in the jgl who is the closest to you - you also only crit the enemy champ that is the closest to you, which can be a difficulty in a teamfight.
The Skill Sequence
With the new Rengar its better if you max his (E) Bola Strike after (Q) Savagery - the Battle Roar (W) wont heal you more if you got low hp - it just gives you a part of the health back that you lost the last 1.5 sec. It wont you heal more than you lost - this is a problem for the laning Rengar!
But you better still keep the early game order Q -> W -> E in lvl 1 til 3
(i will never stop top lane :P)
Get fed, follow this build and One-Shot ? ? ?
I have read this several times and i was impressed - one shotting! But how is it actually possible? What is the usual meaning of a "one-shot"?
(real one-shot)
If we look at the sentence the first part -
Get fed- is probably the most difficult (but thats what my guide should enable).
So the second part -follow this build- is what the guide actually is all about.
The third part -One-Shot- is the problem. To actually One-Shot an enemy, certain conditions must be done:
You have to be ahead in CS and you need a much higher lvl, also you would need 2 or 3 infernal dragons and baron nashor/elder dragon, 5 Bonetooth Necklace stacks plus many kills.
The most important thing would be the kills, the farm and the level.
But you wont always have all these things to One-Shot an enemy with one auto hit/ability like your ulti.
People even say "One-Shot" when you killed an enemy champ with a fast and strong combination of abilities - its not a real One-Shot but huge dmg in less than 3 seconds with almost no counter play.
But to do these nearly One-Shots you should follow an item build that gives you mostly just AD but not attackspeed or armor (cuz that doesnt help your Bonetooth Necklace stacks xd)
Thanks
Huge thanks to Kitty Behind You, the guy who motivated me to play Rengar. He made very good guides where he explained what he does when he plays Rengar top or jgl. I was impressed because he had his very own and special way to play and so I started to play this champ too. I got experience, I learned to play and love Rengar, created own builds and mastered him.
Thank you so much for reading this guide til the end, I really hope it helps you to play better or that you get to know Rengar better.
