Introduction

Hi all,

This is my first ever Gangplank build!
After a few weeks of playing the good ol' critplank, i decided to switch over to a more tanky GP ( 5000HP, nothing to be ashamed of )
This build is not meant to be competetive, as i'm not playing ranked, but it's still very fun to play.
Right now i'm not 100% sure of it, it's a WIP, but i know that those are the items i want to go with GP.

It's really not meant to be played as solo mid, it's more like a solo or duo top kind of build.

I hope you'll enjoy it, and let me know what you think of it and how to improve it by voting/commentating !

Cheers!

Pros / Cons

Gangplank is usually played as an AD carry with insane crits off of Parrrley.
This one is going to be more of a "bruiser" build, going into melee range and be able to sustain a fairly high amount of damage while your "real" carries do the actual job of killing stuff.

Pros :

-Very high survivability
-Great farming
-Global ult makes you able to help the team wherever you are
-High mobility
-Dot+slow from passive, yummy !
-Running away from him is not really an option
-Can handle CC efficiently

Cons :

-Squishy early game
-You need to farm HARDCORE to achieve this build
-Not dealing as much damage as you would expect.
-No way of escaping a well-timed gank
-No one-shooting, sorry ;)

Runes

9 Greater Mark of Desolation 2 Greater Quintessence of Desolation
As for all AD characters, you need to penetrate that ******** armor that's countering you so well. Especially with this build, since we're not going Last Whisper

9 Greater Seal of Replenishment
Now i can see how this looks weird, but we're going to be able to sustain our lane early, and 5MP5 is quite good, it'll let you do a little more Parrrleys, and so gaining the most sought after pieces of gold.

7 Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction 1 Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
Gangplank's abilities have either a huge cooldown ( Remove Scurvy, Raise Morale, Cannon Barrage ), or a short one... That needs to be shortened because the ability is so awesome ( Parrrley ). However, the CDR is not required early, as we don't have enough mana to sustain an intensive usage of all those abilities.
This setup gives you 7% CDR at level 18, and a measly 1% at level 1.

1 Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Magic Resist is what we'll be missing the most (80ish at level 18) so every little bit helps.

1 Greater Quintessence of Gold
1gold per 10 is nice, it'll give you 180 Gold in 30minutes, as always every little bit helps

Masteries

Masteries speak for themselves, i'll let you have a look.
I'm getting XP boost because GP is really really squishy early, and we need him to get his Parrrley as brutal as possible ASAP.
I'm also getting the Gold for an extra 180 gold in 30minutes, nothing extraordinary, but it'll help us in the long run.

Summoner Spells

For my Summoner spells, i go with
Exhaust: A fantastic spell for GP. Combined with his own mobility, it can let you run away or track down anyone. I'm putting a point into it in my masteries, you might want to remove that if you're not using this summoner spell in your setup.
DO NOT forget to use it on the opposing team's AD carry in teamfights, that'll also reduce his damage DRASTICALLY.

Ghost: Really i'm wondering whether i want to go Ghost or Flash.
Both are good really, it's a matter of personal preference. I go for Ghost, because i can put a point into it in my Masteries. Don't forget not to put the point there if you're not taking this spell.

You can alos pick :

Flash: As explained above. A lot of people consider Flash to be the best summoner spell. If you're one of those, then just pick Flash already !

Ignite: Can be somewhat helpful, but really you can chase anyone down for the extra damage you require. You might wanna use this mostly for the health inhibition.

Teleport: Dropping 5kHP worth of pure pirate awesomeness in the middle of a fight after a rain of boulders dropped on their heads? Why not.

Cleanse: Really, if Remove Scurvy and Banshee's Veil aren't enough. But i wouldn't go that way...

But you should really never consider :

All the others, really.

Skill Sequence

I'm maxxing out Parrrley ASAP, because it'll help farming a lot ( omg this is like the best ability in the entiere game ).
Then i'm going Remove Scurvy, for more sustainability, and finally Raise Morale, that'll be of great help late game.
As usual, put the point in your Cannon Barrage whenever you can.

Items

Ok so this is where it gets specific.

First of all, i'm not going Infinity Edge , Phantom Dancer or Last Whisper as core items.
Why you might ask ? Because i'm going Tanky so to hell with all those crits.

Second, i'm starting up with Sapphire Crystal, and i'm not even going Avarice Blade, WTF?!?
Well the reason i'm going Crystal is that i want to rush my Sheen for a huge boost on my Parrrley for farming. And i'm not EVEN going Avarice Blade because i don't want that damn crit already. Ok it's a Gold item, but it takes 28minutes to start paying for itself... I really can't wait that long.

So we're going :

Core items :
Trinity Force : It's just a must have for Gangplank. It synergizes with Parrrley really well, adding 162 flat damage to any Parrrley shot at level 18, and it has everything we need. Ok, it's the most expensive item in the game, but it's really worth it.
Atma's Impaler : Going for 5K HP are we? Then Atma's Impaler is 100 more AD for us. Little bit of CC, little bit of armor, that's just perfect.
Warmog's Armor : 1400HP, how can you be survivable without that ? Also, it's like 30AD with Atma's Impaler.

Core items too, really :
Frozen Mallet : overall good item for what we need, HP + AD. All we need for GP. Also note that GP's AD will increase more due to Atma's Impaler's passive.
Banshee's Veil: This is our MR item, plus we get some more resilience to CC with its Passive. And again more HP means more damage from Atma's Impaler.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity: With these + our runes/masteries, we reach a 25% CDR treshold, that lets us use our Parrrley once every 3.75secs.

I was considering, because i wanted to reduce the overall price of the build :
Wriggle's Lantern: nice early game item, even for laning. It'll keep you safe and the life leech is pretty useful once you get those insane amount of HP
Manamune: A good item, that'll help you a lot early game. Taking this will entierly change the build though, as you won't need that much MP5 early (Compensated by Meki Pendant as a first item)
Aegis of the legion : Will have a huge impact on your damage, as this is not giving much HP, but it's really a great Tank item overall.
Leviathan : Really a cheap item which will grant you a lot of HP, but you need to stay alive to make it useful AND get this early.
: More HP and one more reason to stay close to your enemies with the AoE damage.

Summary

So here's how i play this build .

First let's get a Sapphire Crystal and a combination of Health Potion and Mana Potion.
Think about who you face and where you'll lane before picking your potions.
We choose Sapphire Crystal because we want to rush Sheen and also because it's like 5 extra Parrrley shots.

Once we reach 900, it's time to start thinking about backing for Sheen, if you are close to getting 1250, just keep laning (safely) so that you can also get the Boots.

Now that we get the extra damage on our Parrrley, helping us harrass our lane and farm efficiently. We need to build up on speed so that we don't get ganked.
After all, we're mostly melee.

Our next back will be for Zeal and a pair of Boots, if we didn't get them already.

Now that we're set up for comftable farming, it's time to build on survivability.
Get Catalyst the protector on the 3rd back.

At this point things should start getting a little bit hectic. So we need a lot of HP right now, the next item we're building is our Warmog's Armor . Start with the Giant's Belt if you're forced to back before you reach the 3k.

Then we need some more damage, so let's finish up Trinity Force and get Atma's Impaler.
Finish up Ionian Boots of Lucidity either now, or any time before, if you felt like you needed the extra mobility.

Ultimately, build either Banshee's Veil if you need some resilience to CC and MR, or just go Frozen Mallet for extra damage and HP. It really depends on who you're facing.
