Champion Build Guide

The BEST Mordekaiser Guide

By BezMemow
About Me
Hello, I'm a Master Mordekaiser player, I play mostly Mordekaiser occassionally other champions. I've played a ton of games with this Champion so I felt like I'm qualified enough to make a guide to help others climb with him.

Here's my opgg for those interested :
TP vs Ignite
Do not pick Ignite without TP at any point. Ignite gives you kill potential and you might be able to kill the guy level 1 or level 2 but it ultimately doesn't matter. TP gives you better recalls, better macro mid and late game, and gives you an overall greater margin of error. If you play ignite and God forbid you die level 1, your lane is over if the enemy plays well from there. Don't use your TP to gank Bot, it's a waste of time, experience and resources 99,9% of the time.
Rune, Summoner, Item Discussion

Rune Discussion

Remember if you have any questions regarding the runes, make sure to ask, there's no stupid questions!

Precision Tree

Conqueror pairs amazingly with Mordekaiser's kit and playstyle, it's one of the best and safest options out there. It gives extra damage and healing that peaks in longer fights, which is essentially Mordekaiser's entire gimmick.

Triumph is the only good option in the 2nd line, gives you healing after killing someone which is useful as well as extra gold. Mordekaiser is very gold dependent if you go AP so it's amazing to have.

Tenacity is extremely useful, as a champion that is easily kited and CC'd it's a must have unless the enemy has very few CC in the enemy team.

This rune is the alternative in case the enemy doesn't have a lot of CC, attack speed is always welcome on Mordekaiser due to his passive giving him extra ability power damage on-hit.

Last Stand is an amazing rune as it pairs well with your W when you go below a certain level of HP, if you're going one-shot Mordekaiser though going Coup de Grace might be better.

Resolve Tree

Grasp is very good for tough lanes or if you want to go tank. If you're facing an unplayable matchup like Olaf or Jax it's a safe and easy way of being useful in the game and not getting them to snowball. Remember when you face an unplayable matchup it's already amazing if you end up equal after the laning phase. This gives you a stronger laning phase and therefore you will stop them from snowballing.

Decent if you want to push turrets and splitpush but generally there are better options.

Good rune if you have a free lane

Very good against all-in champs like Jax, Renekton, a must-have in those matchups

Second wind is a must have into Ranged champs and Ranged pokers like Gankplank

This rune is very good with your W, it helps a lot in your laning phase.

I pick this rune nearly every game, the extra shield automatically gives you extra healing as the healing from your W is based on your shield, and then on top of that it boosts that healing as well. The lower your HP the higher the shield and healing, it pairs well with enchanters in your team as well. Overall a very good rune.

Domination Tree

Hail of Blades is a really funny rune, however it's very situational and overall I recommend going Conqueror in ranked in general. It has some uses for early game as the 3 ultra fast AAs give you your passive instantly, I haven't tested it but with Ignite you might beat Darius with that rune early game.

Pairs well with Mordekaiser's kit, although weaker than Conqueror (obviously)

Best rune probably in that line

The earlier you get your ult the earlier you get to kill and snowball.

Sorcery Tree

Scaling CDR is very good on Mordekaiser, it's a scaling rune so pair it with gathering storm

A very good scaling rune, tons of extra damage in the late game that you wouldn't otherwise have, good for free lanes especially.

Summoner Spell Discussion

I won't go into why it's better than ignite, there's a category about that already. But this is a must-have, don't ever switch it out for anything. Unless you wanna be crazy and play your own way you're entilted to do so.

Very good summoner spell for Mordekaiser, it's a spell you will pick like 85% of the time. Ghost provides you with the mobility that you lack to get to the target in lane and in teamfights, it also resets once you get an assist or you kill.

If you don't need mobility in lane, ignite is good for the kill potential.

Flash is a very good summoner spell in general, if the enemy has a lot of Dashes and stun/root skillshots it's a must-have (ex. Ezreal, Senna, Xerath), at that point you don't need the MS to get to them, you need to avoid their stuns or roots or flash to them. F.e Ezreal isn't very mobile besides his dash. Don't pick this if you're facing a Kassadin cause your flash won't do anything anyway.

Good against hard lanes like Irelia, it's worse than Ghost and Flash in teamfights as you lack mobility but very good in lane.

Itemization Discussion

READ NOTES on the Item builds to understand the point of them, remember that Itemization is situational, it's based on the game state and the enemy as well as the allied team compositions. Just cause in a certain matchup I've typed to go a certain build doesn't mean you always should.

EXAMPLE: You're facing an AAtrox, and he's 0/3, you beat him in lane regardless, the enemy has 3 APs in their team. Since AAtrox is out of the game and you don't need to beat him since you already do, go a build that is better against AP champs so that you can carry the game.

EXAMPLE 2: Your team has Xerath, Jinx, Lulu and Evelynn, you're facing Akshan, the most common sense thing to do would go full burst to defeat him, but in this game specifically your team desperately needs a frontline, in which case going full tank or Jak Sho would be the better play, even if in the laning phase it will be a bit harder.

You need to be adaptable, some enemy team comps will be very annoying to deal with, don't be afraid to dodge games you know are gonna very hard to win (ex You have 4 AP players in your team including you and enemy has Vayne top, Sejuani Jg and Leona support which can buy anti-AP items and completely demolish your team.)
Ability Tricks
Mordekaiser is a pretty simple champion, so mechanical tricks are fairly limited, but here's things you can take advantage of:

Realm Of Death - The Realm of Death slows by 75% during its 0.5 seconds cast time, you can use your and then ult in order to secure the hit. You steal enemy statistics for 7 seconds, effectively making a 20% stat differential for 7 seconds, if you kill them in the Realm of Death you keep the statistics. You keep the stats for 7 seconds EVEN if the enemy uses

Your Realm of Death is also positioned slightly behind you, meaning that you can use the positioning of the realm to your advantage to stop the enemy from running away under their tower or away from you. Test it out on Practice tool.

You can use your to pull enemies away from you.
Your + locks on target regardless where you flash as long as you have range to the target
Pay to Win
Newer skins give you harder to see animations of your ult, meaning it will be easier to play against characters that can cancel your ult with their abilities (ex. Illaoi, Volibear...). From my experience people have the most trouble fighting the Project skin.
