    My Current Build

Introduction

OMGWTFBBQ HOW THE HELL DID SHE KILL ME! VAYNE NEEDS TO BE NERFED!

Ah classic line, it's music to my ears! Vayne has the ability to not only dominate in game, but also dominate peoples emotions, you will find many people raging and hating you for playing such an amazing champion!

Vayne IMO is one of the best AD Carry champs in the game thus far! Below I will do my best to explain how I have come to believe this to be so!

IMPORTANT: Lets be real, I am not saying my build is the best nor am I saying that it is better than anyone else, all I hope to attain from this build is to teach you how to play Vayne very well. Please read this WHOLE guide before you decide if you would like to upvote or downvote. I do NOT expect you to build exactly what I have listed every single game. Thus why I have explained different build situations throughout my build. So please read the Items, Viable Item Options and Last Thoughts for more information, and thank you so much for taking the time to read my guide!!!

06/14/2011 -- Added Screenshots for Ranked games, solo queue with Vayne, Some sick Pwnage!

06/24/2011 -- VAYNE GETS THE NERF HAMMER ONCE AGAIN! Yes people for whatever reason people hate Vayne, must have been how badly we dominated other players in game... But I want to encourage you to not be discouraged! Vayne is still a viable champion, you just have to work harder at it in game! Don't worry fellow summoners this is not the end of our Vayne Reign!!!!

07/05/2011 -- Tweaked my Mastery builds for both build 1 and build 2

07/27/2011 -- Altered Both Build 1 and Build 2, with updated Runes, Masteries, and Items. Build 2 is now Build 1 and is the Main Build for vayne, Vayne is much more viable using Build 1. One noted update, is rushing Bloodthirster early on using Build 1. Build 2 is still viable, but I currently use the new Build 1 with the current Meta Game!

08/26/2011 -- Vayne continues to be a very strong Champion, but a new Champion arises and his name is Talon -- I have created a Talon guide and I currently play with Vanye and Talon. If you liked my Vayne guide be sure to check out my Talon guide:
Talon - Blade's of Fury (Full Guide)

09/12/2013 -- I'm back Summoners, after a long time off from playing League, I am back with vengeance, I will be spending the next week or so updating and reworking my builds on Vayne and Talon!

Pros / Cons

PROS

Range,
Vayne is not only a great AD carry, but a Range AD carry!
Solid early game,
Vayne is one of the harder hitting champs early game!
Very mobile,
Vayne's passive combined with her ultimate gives her very nice speed when chasing down champions!
Tumble,
Its almost like a mini flash, with a 2 sec cd!
Amazing ganker,
Vayne excels extremely well at getting around the field and ganking enemy champions!
Chasing pro,
Vayne is by far one of the best chasers in the game!
Damage,
Vayne's damage is so strong that Riot had to nerf her very early on after her release, and guess what? She still is strong as hell!

CONS

Squishy,
Vayne is not a very durable champion and because of this we need to fix this weakness with items and runes.
Focused,
Vayne is so good if played right, that without a doubt will always be targeted first and focused.
Mana dependent,
After the recent nerfs we find Vayne to be much more dependent on mana, and you have to use your abilities wisely so that your not running on OOM.

Runes

MARKS

greater mark of armor penetration
Greater Mark of Armor Penetration: Hands down is one of the most needed runes for any AD Champion, it gives 1.28 armor pen per rune which equates to roughly 15 armor pen with all 12 at lvl 1! This rune is without a doubt needed!

SEALS

Greater Seal of Alacrity: Vayne is a very strong champion, but very much so lacks attack speed. This rune is my personal favorite to take with vayne, good nice buff of attack speed, equates to roughly 7 attack speed with all 9 at lvl 1!

Greater Seal of Resilience: One thing I have noticed with Vayne is that she lacks any real survivability, so if your wanting to get some early game survivability grab this rune, it equates to roughly 13 armor with all 9 at lvl 1!

GLYPHS

Greater Glyph of Focus: This glyph is one of my personal favorites, reduces your global cd on your abilities, this has so much nice utility for any champion. So why not reduce that 2 sec cd on your rumble? equates to roughly 6 cooldown reduction with all 9 at lvl 1!

Greater Glyph of Warding: Just like the Seal of Resilience its all about building survivability, and those casters wont be able to hurt us as easily, equates to roughly 14 Magic Resist with all 9 at lvl 1!

QUINTESSENCES

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage: More Armor Pen? Yes please, for sure this is the perfect Quint to take with Vayne, this only increases how deadly Vayne can really be, another must have! equates to roughly 7 Attack Damage with all 3 at lvl 1!

Summoner Spells

Ghost: Ghost is so versatile, First off it can be used as an escape, and as a chase. This is precisely why I take Ghost, So many people run from me, and I want to be certain I can catch them. Some would argue that this is stupid because of Vayne's ultimate, but let me remind you, it doesn't increase your speed when fleeing, so I pop Ghost and I am home free!

Flash: Where did she go? Don't you hate that, your about to finish off a champion, then Flash they are gone and you get so pissed! Well this spell can also be used in retrospect, your in a bush waiting for that enemy champion, then you flash on top of him before he can even realize whats happening he is dead! mwhahaha Flash is FTW, Take it don't ask questions!

Exhaust: Exhaust is one of my other most favorite summoner spells, I can't tell you how many times I have scored First Blood and early game kills with this one spell. It is also an excellent tool for chasing, where you going bro! *popped exhaust* U Dead!

Teleport: Very useful tool throughout the entire game. Especially during laning phase, this spell allows you to stay in lane much longer without any real walking downtime. I also use this to get some ganks in or protect a tower when needed, another solid choice!

Ignite: Ignite is another very good spell, those champions that are just out of reach and are almost to tower, pop ignite and guarantee their death. I love killing noobs with ignite it Lawls me!

Vayne's Abilities

Night Hunter: One of my personal favorite passives in the game, Vayne gains 40 movement speed when moving towards an enemy champion! Are you kidding me? You mean that I get to run faster just because I am moving towards you! Epic! Now no more cowardly champions running away, you cant get away from me this time!!

Tumble: Tumble is the bread and butter of your champion, you will use this ability 95% of the time! Whats so neat about this ability is that its like a mini flash, she tumbles around the map, and when she comes out of her roll, her damage is increased drastically! Combine this with Silver Bolts, and lets say a Sheen or a Trinity Force, and you have yourself a deadly little move! So many things all packed down into one ability! This is my personal all time favorite ability!

Silver Bolts: I keep seeing silver rings forming around any enemy I shoot at, WTF, why is it doing that? O duh its Silver Bolts! Silver Bolts isn't just a neat little silvery metal ring graphic but it actually is how Vayne pushes big DPS. on every third consecutive attack or ability Vayne will deal bonus true damage equal to a percentage of the enemy's max hp! This means that every third hit Vayne will hit like a mad man that lost his crack pipe!

Condemn: Condemn gives Vayne some well needed utility, besides the boring, right click shoot tactic. What Condemn does is it knocks back the enemy champion dealing damage, but the neat thing is, if they hit a wall or any terrain they get instantly stunned for 1.5 seconds. OMG Vayne has a stun too!! What doesn't she have!!

Final Hour: Final Hour, I could go on for hours talking about how amazing this ability is! So let me try to contain myself and explain what it does, First off the most noticeable thing it does is quadruples your bonus movement speed you get from Night Hunter. What that basically means is instead of 40 movement speed you gain 160! OMGWTF! yea your telling me, This nifty little ultimate makes you the best damn chaser in the game hands down! But that's not all folks, we have more to go. Aside from the bonus movement speed, this ultimate also buffs up your Attack Damage significantly, so you hit so much harder! But what the neatest thing about this ultimate is that you get to stealth too! After every tumble you stealth for 1.5 seconds! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Vayne gets a stealth too!!!! WOW BEST DAMN ULTIMATE IN THE GAME!!

Thoughts

I have been playing Vayne sense she was released, and she is a very fun champion but can also be very annoying.. The reason i say annoying is because once you start pulling off kills, people start to focus you and it can get very frustrating. Secondly you actually have to be aware of what your doing when playing vayne, you cant be that yi who runs in and right clicks FTW.. Doesn't work that way with Vayne, you have to tumble constantly and play smart.

Vayne is great early game, but only great if you have greater mark of desolationgreater quintessence of desolation AND TAKE I have seen many ppl take other things besides Doran's Blade like But these don't work out in her case, you may be able to survive longer in the laning phase, but u definitely wont pick up kills as easily as you could if you grabbed Doran's Blade.

I honestly recommend playing vayne in a duo lane, simply because, she is meant for early game kills,(yes she is designed to be a carry but hear me out) in mid lane you wont get a kill very often, unless the other player truly sucks, or you have a fellow teammate that helps you gank mid several times. But if your in a top or bot lane working with someone that gives vayne some solid synergy, such as someone that can stun, dps or cc like Then you could get some early kills and snowball. just because vayne has range doesn't make her a strong mid. Trust me on this!

Items are very important with vayne, if you have played her you noticed how stupid slow her attacks are early game, but when she lands a hit, it makes you laugh how hard she hits.

(OMGWTFBBQ! VAYNE YOU HIT LIKE A TRUCK -- LOL I KNOW :P)

Items

Doran's Blade: I can not stress enough how this is vital to Vayne's early game, if you do not take this item then yes I will call you out in game and I will start raging! No other item brings to the table the stats and perks that Doran's Blade has. It gives you a nice additional 10 attack damage, 100 health and a nice 3 life steal! Precisely why this little item is so vital early game, you can benefit from all 3 of these attributes! It allows you to hit harder early game, get some easy early kills, sustains your hp with a little life steal, and gives you an extra 100hp at lvl 1! Take this item, no do not argue, just do it! (Survivability)

Berserker's Greaves: Gotta get boots, everyone needs some additional movement speed, so why not grab something that can boost your attack speed? Vayne is a great champion but slacks on the rate at which she attacks! So very early on this will buff up your attack speed. This is the primary reason I choose to put this in my build! Now hear me out, I have a philosophy behind this. In my build I center my main items around Trinity Force and Madred's Bloodrazor, so they don't bring to the table a lot of attack speed like a Phantom Dancer would, so we need to counterbalance that with some additional attack speed! Thus the Berserker's Greaves!

Trinity Force: Trinity Force is what really makes Vayne superior to other champions. Now the reason we build Trinity Force vs going with a Phantom Dancer or a Frozen Mallet, is simple: first off its cheaper! Secondly it only takes up 1 item slot vs 2, Thirdly the passive not only slows but it also procs an increase of 150% Attack Damage for one attack after every cast. That means after every your going to deal increased damage! Another great reason to pick Trinity Force is because of the survivability it brings to the table, your gaining 250 health, 250 mana and 12 movement speed, with a chance to slow the target after every hit!! This is an all around great item for vayne, and lets face it, majority of the games we don't even have time to build full builds, so why not grab something that gives you a little bit of everything! (Survivability)

Madred's Bloodrazor: This item hands down is one of the best items that we can use on Vayne! The reason being is this, Madred's Bloodrazor gives us a well needed 25 armor, 40 attack speed, and 30 attack damage. Another great perk is the fact that you have a 15% chance to deal 500 damage to any minion, this makes farming a breeze! But what really makes this item superior is it's unique passive. This passive gives us on hit; magic damage equal to 4% of the targets maximum health! combine that with and your damage output will skyrocket! What that means is when facing tanky champions that have a lot of health, well lets just say you wont have any problems burning them down.

Wit's End: This item is usually always overlooked, and honestly I don't understand why. As we know by now Vayne lacks attack speed, and we noticed that the more attack speed we attain the more damage we can dish out. So lets just stack Phantom Dancers right? Wrong! Why not get something that not only has attack speed, but somthing that can also help defend against those annoying casters. Wit's End brings to the table 40 attack speed and 30 magic resist. But like most items we know that the passive is what really makes the item so vital. This passive is what makes this weapon a tool of destruction. Right off the bat Wit's End gives us 42 bonus magic damage per attack, and increases our magic resist per 5 for every hit stacking 4 times, meaning your getting a extra 20 magic resist! So in essence your gaining 40 attack speed, 42 magic damage, and 50 magic resist! all for only 2000 gold. This item is a for sure keeper in our Ultimate Vayne Build! (Survivability)

Infinity Edge: We already have a solid build and have some decent survivability, so lets make it stronger! If you want a tool for absolute destruction, then you need to grab Infinity Edge. This baby packs a wicked punch, with 80 attack damage, and 25 critical strike chance. What really makes this Edge unique is it's passive. This passive increases our damage of our critical hits by 50%! That's wicked! a Must have on a solid Vayne build!

The Bloodthirster: Lifesteal! What better icing on the cake then some nice lifesteal! Bloodthirster brings to the table 60 attack damage, and 15 lifesteal. This not only boosts our already huge damage, but gives us a nice little perk of lifesteal! One thing I found really neat about this item is its passive. It allows you to stack more damage and lifesteal, with 40 kills - minions or champions -- you can gain an additional 40 damage and 10% lifesteal! Your joking right? So your saying I can have potentially 100 attack damage and 25% lifesteal! Um yes please, gimme gimme gimme!! This item will for sure sustain you through any fight! (Survivability)

Viable Item Options

READ THIS

Reason for Options:
We all know that every game we play will be completely different from the last, so this being said not any one build will be the end all God Mode Glory build! Yes folks we have to understand the game and use our brains, and yes think on our feet during every game. If we just follow a build item for item, and get face rolled we blame the champion, our team, and the creator of the build. But wait I have a solution to this.... Are You Listening?

In order to succeed with any champion let alone Vayne, we need to build our items depending how the game itself is going! We can have a core thought process and core items, but if the other team has 5 tanks stacking all armor, what do you do? Well the obvious answer would be to get some armor penetration items! So that being said I want to introduce to you, some items that have the option to be swapped out for your Boots, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Items

Boots

Boots of Swiftness: Instead of grabbing Berserker's Greaves, you could always go with something that is going to give you more movement speed. I have used both but for this build I wnated more attack speed, so I found the attack speed to be more Vital. But still any extra movement speed is always a plus!

Mercury's Treads: When you know the game is going to be really tough, you get some nice magic resist, and +35 Tenacity, meaning reducing all cc by 35%! This pair of boots is always another viable choice for Vayne! (Survivability)

Fourth Item (Survivability Item)

Atma's Impaler: If the other team is mostly AD based and your doing fairly well, why not grab some extra armor and boost your critical strike chance. Atma's Impaler brings to the table, 45 armor and a nice additional 18 critical strike chance! But like always this item has a sick passive! physical attacks deal and additional 2% of your max health in damage. Lets say you have 3000 hp, well with Atma's Impaler your dealing 60 additional damage per hit! (Survivability)

Banshee's Veil: This item is such a gem, and sometimes can be overlooked! Survivability is the name of the game, and Banshee's Veil is right up our alley. Not only do we get 375 health and 375 mana, but we also get 50 magic resist! Now casters cant one shot us! But wait, that's not all! Banshee's Veil has this sick passive that gives you a cool little bubble, but this bubble isn't for looks what it does is blocks one negative spell every 45 seconds! 1 spell completely negated every 45 seconds! that's insane!! I grabbed this item very early in the build because we already have some decent damage now we want to stay alive long enough to actually come out of a team fight alive! (Survivability)

Guardian Angel: You are doing very well with the damage output, but still its extremely hard to stay alive because the other team has a carry that is just steamrolling your team, well Guardian Angel can help you out for sure! 68 armor, 38 magic resist, and a mini revive if you die giving you a second chance at life! Whats not to love about this item. (Survivability)

Thornmail: This item is awesome for an enemy team that is very AD heavy and has an AD carry that is just ripping your team to pieces. Thornmail gives 100 armor and has one of the coolest passives in the game, that I honestly wish I could always have on any champ I play! This passive reads, On being hit by standard attacks, returns 30% of damage taken as magic damage. Which basically means anytime a physical attack hits you and deals damage to you, your thornmail automatically returns 30% of that damage back to the caster as magic damage! Bye Bye When someone hits you for 1000 damage your thornmail returns the favor of 300 damage instantly dealt as magic damage! OMG, Epic Item! Its only 2000 gold! (Survivability)

Force of Nature: If the enemy team has a wicked AP carry such as Then you may need some additional magic resist. Force of Nature is just the item for the job! This item gives you 76 magic resist, 8 movement speed and 40 health per 5 seconds. The passive on Force of Nature helps a lot too, giving you .35% of your champion's health every second! Meaning if you have 3000 hp, your gaining 10.5 hp every second! Which doesnt sound like a lot, but give it a minute and you already gained 630 health with your passive alone! (Survivability)

Fifth and Sixth Items

The Black Cleaver: Instead of grabbing a Infinity Edge or a Bloodthirster, Black Cleaver would be a very viable option. It really is dependent on if your facing some ruthless tanks or you just want the extra attack speed and damage that Black Cleaver brings to the table. What really makes Black Cleaver an excellent item for Vayne is not the 30 attack speed and 55 attack damage, but the passive that reduces 15 armor for 5 seconds and can stack 3 times, meaning that's 45 armor reduction! Black Cleaver combined with makes for a very nasty huge damage combo!

Phantom Dancer: 55 attack speed, 15 movement speed and 30 critical strike chance? Yes please! If you grab the Infinity Edge and you just want to steam roll the team because you are doing very well, you can very easily grab a Phantom Dancer over a Bloodthirster! Your almost guaranteed to Crit every shot, making you extremely deadly! Phantom Dancer your always beloved, yet another very viable choice!

Frozen Mallet: If the game is going fairly well, but the scores are very tied up, and you find yourself just barely making it out of team fights or your dieing a lot, maybe you need some more survivability.. Well Frozen Mallet can help you out, bringing 20 attack damage, and 700 hp! Not only is this going to help keep you alive, but you can never go wrong with Frozen Mallet's passive, it slows targets movement speed by 30%(ranged)! Very viable option! (Survivability)

Last Thoughts

Before I let you go, I wanted to talk to you a little bit about my build, and why I took certain items in a certain order. I belive that the order you buy your items can be very vital to the success of your champion. I am only going to go over 3 items in my build, and I will not be talking about early game, mid game or late game. This should be self explanatory by now!

Sheen: This item alone is one of the most key items we require, to be successful early game with Vayne! The reason for this is because of Sheen's passive. This passive gives us a 100% chance when an ability is used to increase your base damage by 80% on your next attack! What that means is that after every time you cast an ability your hands will glow red showing off your Sheen proc, and your next attack will deal huge damage! This is precisely why the combo is so extremely Vital to Vayne's damage output! With this combo your next hit will deal Sheen's proc, Silver Bolt's Proc(after 3 stacks), and Tumble's Proc! WICKED BURST DAMAGE! Just time this with silver bolts accurately and you will be dominating early game!

Madred's Razors: This item is our early game farming tool, sense Vayne is very item dependent we will need a lot of gold to sustain her expensive build! With Madred's Razors the passive gives us a 15% chance on attack to deal 500 magic damage to a minion! This makes farming a breeze, thus why we grab it right after tier 2 boots!

Recurve Bow: Nothing extremely special about this item, besides the 40 attack speed. The reason I wanted to talk about it is, because this is when you drop You will notice that by the time you get to buying Recurve Bow your bag will be full, so this is where we simply sell Doran's blade for Recurve Bow! Besides we already picked up to replace Doran's Blade!

Philosophy Behind Build

READ THIS

I wanted to talk a little bit about why I went with such items in my build over others, and also wanted to see if you caught something I meant to show in my build. I am refering to the (Survivability) I left these words in my build to prove a point. Every other item goes damage, survivability, damage, etc. This is precisely my Philosophy!

I believe that not only do you need to be farming, last hitting, gaining experience, getting kills, but you also need to be surviving! So if you build all damage, what is that accomplishing? you may be able to kill easily but now its 1v2, your for sure screwed and nothing you can do about it! But if you go damage, survivability, your building a well rounded solid build that can withstand team fights and ganks, but also contribute to the team by far more with your damage output and durability!

Conclusion

Vayne is really one of the most fun characters I have played on League of Legends so far. Her ability to hit hard / and chase FTW is rivaled to none. While it be being fed, or not being fed, her ways of melting down an enemy near their tower, or in a team fight really just depends on if you can stay at range while picking off champs one by one. If you master the art of jumping around the jungle all nimbly bimbly, and have good map awareness, I have no doubts that you will be able to destroy as Vayne!
