Amumu is vulnerable to Lee Sin's early game invades. Pre 6, you need to ward your jungle and be mindful of where he is around the map to get your snowball rolling! Lee Sin's goal is to counter jungle you, so if you prevent him from doing that you will come out on top! Fortunately, Amumu farms a lot faster than Lee Sin so take advantage of this and aim to outscale him.
Nocturne
A true nuisance until you group and burn your spellshield. His post 6 can cause more impact around the map, so when he uses it be sure to group and make picks on him or his teammates.
Elise
Elise can burst Amumu down very quickly, and has her repel ability to dodge incoming crowd control from him. Avoid fighting her one on one and wait to get tanky to group with your team. You will win fights by peeling her off of your team and stunning her properly. Mercury Treads are the best option for boots versus her. She naturally heals with her kit, so matching that with a Spirit Visage is a good option if she gets ahead.
Diana
As long as she doesn't get fed she won't be an issue. Pre 6 she is pretty weak, so counter ganking is a viable option. If you are ahead versus her, grab Banshee's Veil. If you wind up falling behind, Spirit Visage will tank her combo well enough for you to deal with her in the mid game. Group with your team and pick her off early.
Evelynn
Evelynn has a weak pre-6 so keep this in mind when ganking, her main threat are her counter ganks & counter jungling. As long as she doesn't counter jungle you, you will scale a lot harder than her. Beware of her chase & pick potential with her charm, she will be very thirsty, always looking for a window to pick you and secure a kill.
Fiddlesticks
Easy matchup once he burns his fear on you, when you land a Bandage Toss onto him he pretty much dies immediately with the rest of your combo.
Gragas
He can one shot you early so keep this in mind and track him around the jungle. He will most likely build full AP so it will be easy to burst him down once you build some of your core items.
Hecarim
When you group, don't clump up so he can't ult everyone at once. Picking exhaust champions and stuns will counter his ganks. The best thing you can do is farm well, avoid dying and rushing your ultimate so you can disengage when he ults. His ganks will most likely result in him coming out on top so just play smart and combo him with your team to burst him.
Ivern
He will look to steal your camps which he does very quickly, look to make picks on him by pinging him out when he does. Aim to catch him along with your team. He's a very squishy champion so when you track where he is and alert your team, you can pick up easy kills on him.
Jarvan IV
Not a good matchup for Amumu at all since he can burst you quickly early on, however rushing a Dead Man's Plate will give you a lot of survivabilty. This item also gives you extra movespeed to dodge his E>Q combo, ward your jungle and don't look to counterjungle him at all in the early game. He will most likely invade you so stay ready!
Jax
Jax's attack speed buff allows you to use Tantrum more often when he is attacking you. CC him when he uses his Counterstrike stun while grouped with your team and you will kill him or at the very least, burn his flash. If he splitpushes, you can deal with him easily under a tower when he overextends.
Kha'Zix
Don't put yourself in an isolated 1v1 scenario, and for the most part you will be fine. Care for his damage early on if he gets a lead. Besides that, you have a lot of CC and melt him quickly with items since he's a squishy bug.
Kayn
Avoid letting him hit you early on, you won't be able to burst him out. It's best to counter gank him whenever he burns his E, the ability when he runs through walls. Pressure him as much as possible early on since you both scale, with a Thornmail and Deadmans you will deny most of his damage output.
Xin Zhao
Engaging with fights early on versus Xin is bad news, especially when he hits level 2. Avoid getting hit by him three times and getting knocked up, Grab a Cinderhulk into Deadman's and you will be able to tank most of his damage. Warden's Mail is also good against him for the attack speed reduction passive.
Kindred
One of Kindred's main weaknesses is sustained damage, and luckily you have plenty of that! Stay next to her and build Rylias Crystal Scepter; she will be forced to peel off your team when you have a good amount of armor. You will win this as long as you land your abilities to continue doing damage to her after she ults. Be wary of her marks and deny them as soon as they are up, you may have to give up a scuttle early but later she will greed for more marks. Knocking her out of her ultimate is also a good general way to deny her the heal and invulnerability.
Olaf
Stack health as soon as possible since he deals true damage, also wait for his ult to run out and then burn your CC onto him. Group with your team and prevent him from getting onto your backline by stopping him from picking up axes he throws. You have to ward everything early he will come into your jungle to kill you 100% so be cautious and don't give him free kills, he snowballs hard. This is the toughest matchup for Amumu so don't get discouraged, good luck!
Nidalee
Avoid getting hit by her spears at a distance so they do less damage. Try not to chase her unless she overextends, it is easy to kill her once you hit her with Bandage toss into a quick Ultimate when grouped with your team.
Pantheon
Be sure to ward your blue buff early and ask your top laner to watch it for you. If he comes to stun you, evade his invade by throwing your Bandage toss to a minion or a camp. You will lose to him early, however stomp him when you get your items since you scale WAY harder than he can.
Master Yi
You have a very easy time fighting him when you group up with your team. After he alpha strikes, stun him and he dies instantly. It's best not to 1v1 him until you have a clear lead or item advantage.
Rammus
Protect your carries, he will most likely target them first. Rammus players usually build full armor, which makes him vulnerable to your AP damage. He will also get tanky by stacking HP which means that your percent HP damage will come in handy with a Despair Max. Stand behind minions to avoid getting knocked up by his powerball. After he uses his defensive curl, then it is a good time to target him.
Rek'Sai
When Rek'sai tunnels, land a Bandage Toss on him since this escape is on a long cooldown at early levels. She will still travel, but will get stunned after the channel is done. She is pretty squishy early on as well, so counter ganking him is an efficient way of shutting him down. Don't her when her fury bar is full, she will do true damage to you negating your armor. Destroy her tunnels for free gold and peel her off of your team and you'll be fine.
Rengar
Stay grouped and be ready to Q>R him when he comes out of stealth. Grabbing your items asap will counter him hard, the early game may be a struggle since he has the clear advantage. He is squishy so when you get your items you will be able to peel for your team and burst him down.
Sejuani
She is very weak early so counter jungling is a must, try and get her Raptors at all costs.. Body block for your team when she ults, then you have a window to fight.
Shaco
Very hard since he will most likely counter jungle. He will do his own thing so try not to focus on him too much and aim to get yourself to level 6. Buy an Orcale's Lens and buy pink wards. When he engages with his deceive, it is a good time to turn and focus on him. The puff of smoke means that Shaco is nearby.
Graves
He has high burst potential when he gets ahead, however when he dashes you need to hit your Bandage Toss on him to stop him from reigning terror. Overall, an easy matchup just ward for your team and be wary of his invades.
Skarner
Luckily, nobody really plays this champion in this meta. You're a stronger pick so don't even worry about him, get your Mercs and Haunting Guise you will destroy him when you group. Peel for your backline he will suicide to get them ulted.
Shyvana
Shyvana will counter jungle you early, however her clear will result in her being low since she has no sustain in her kit. Ward your camps and collapse on her when she enters your jungle with your team. She does a lot of damage so be cautious!
Udyr
He has the advantage early to counter jungle you, however you outscale him insanely hard in the late game teamfights
Vi
One of the hardest matchups for Amumu since she displaces you very hard with her CC. Just a plain counter honestly, when she charges her Q it's the best time for you to Bandage toss with your Q to put it on cooldown.
Volibear
Click on Volibear and find out if his passive is up by finding the little bear buff icon. Fight him when his passive is down, and avoid being around him with low HP since his bite is an execute.
Trundle
Move out of his frozen ground when he tries to fight you, he gets massive attackspeed, movespeed and healing buffs from it. He is hard to get away from, however do your best to get away from his pillar since it slows you over time. Bait out his Ultimate, the ability where he drains you since it amplifies his kit.
Zac
Interrupt his slingshot when he charges it up your Bandage toss. Step on his green blobs when he attacks and aim to stun him when he burns his engage abilities. Rush Liandry's Tourment to hard counter him as soon as possible and track him in the jungle.
Wukong
Herd to counter when he hits 6, just rush armor and prevent him from engaging by forcing his decoy.
Warwick
He has decent ganks early on and has higher attack speed when you are low on HP. Save your Q for when he uses his ultimate to knock him out of it, this is very imperative.
Ekko
His blinks travel faster than your Q's. Ekko is sort of a different type of Amumu that is faster paced with more attention towards how he positions himself inside of his abilities..

Amumu Buffs(go-to champion for me in many ways!)
Amumu Recent 9.24 Buff! (Skip to 7:52)
NEW SEASON 9! PATCH 9.8 AMUMU BUFFS ARE HUGE~
Passive - Cursed Touch
BONUS TRUE DAMAGE Cursed targets take an additional 10% ⇒ 13% of pre-mitigation magic damage as true damage
Q - Bandage Toss
COOLDOWN 16/14/12/10/8 seconds ⇒ 12/11/10/9/8 seconds
DON'T LEAVE ME Amumu now follows his target for up to a reasonable distance from where he cast Bandage Toss, in case targets get out of the stun before he arrives
NEW Patch 8.16 AMUMU BUFFS POGGERS!!
E passive now scales with bonus armor and magic resist.
🆕 BONUS DAMAGE REDUCTION: 3% bonus armor + 3% magic resist
Skill Sequence Breakdown
Cursed Touch
Passive: When you auto attack an enemy, the target is cursed for 3 seconds. Cursed targets receive 10% bonus true damage from all incoming magic damage, calculated before their magic resist reduction. AKA Tons of damage; this is why you should pick Amumu when you have a lot of ability power on your team for maximum damage >:)
Bandage Toss
Q: This is a very long ranged skillshot with a wind-up time, similar to Thresh's hook Death Sentence. When landed, it stuns the enemy for 1 second and pulls Amumu towards them like a slingshot! You can get very tricky with this ability for engaging or escaping with minions and camps over walls, as well as pathing quicker through the jungle. Time the enemy's Flash so when you go back to gank it's an easier to secure a kill.
Despair
W (Toggle): Amumu starts crying and surrounds himself in a circle of tears! They do damage over time (every half of a second) depending on the amount of ability power you have, along with more damage depending on the enemy's max HP. Despair refreshes your passive Cursed Touch and drains mana fast, so keep this in mind when you're not fighting you'll need it later :)
Tantrum
EPassive: Amumu takes reduced damage from each and every physical attack. Active: Nearby enemies are attacked by Amumu's headBang. Tantrum's cooldown is also reduced by 0.5 seconds every time Amumu is hit by a basic attack.
Curse of the Sad Mummy
R: Amumu entangles surrounding enemies for 2 seconds, dealing magic damage and applying curse for 3 seconds. This is a CORE ability to land on the enemy backline that can turn games around town due to it's large radius :D It's great for engaging and disengaging fights.
Rune Explanation
Aftershock
is great since it gives you great base tank and damage stats early on (100Armor and Magic Resist level 1) and scales throughout the game. It has a damage proc after immobilizing an enemy champion with a 35 second cooldown.
Font of Life
is amazing for carrying your teammates when you fight 5v5. When you impair enemy champions with your crowd control (ex Curse of the Sad Mummy on multiple targets) and they follow up with their damage, they will heal for a percentage of your maximum health.
Conditioning
gives you really good Armor and Magic Resistance stats. After 10 minutes have passed in the game, you gain 8 Armor and 8 Magic Resit, plus 5% bonusArmor and MR. It is a great choice if you plan to build Armor and Magic Resist, your tankiness will scale hard later on.
Unflinching:
After casting a Summoner Spell, you gain Tenacity and Slow Resistance for 10 seconds! You also gain Tenacity and Slow Resistance for eachSummoner Spell on a Cooldown timer.
SORCERY OPTIONS:
Gathering Storm:
Gain Increasing AD or AP (adaptive, depending on which amount of damage you have the most of) throughout the course of the game. 10min: +8AP, 20min: 24AP, 30min: 48AP, 40min: 80AP, etc.
Nullifying Orb:
Gain a Magic Damage Shield when you are taken to low health.
Movement speed conversion into adaptive stat decreased.
ATTACK DAMAGE 9.6% bonus movement speed ⇒ 6% bonus movement speed
ABILITY POWER 16% bonus movement speed ⇒ 10% bonus movement speed
The BEST Jungle Route For Amumu! 100%
Pay Attention To Where The Enemy Jungler Starts:
It is great to get information on where the enemy jungler is starting his clear (it's usually the Blue Sentinel), try warding their buff if you can so you know where they will be after their first clear. Every jungler gets a leash nowadays, so if you pay attention to whatever lane comes out late (ie top or bot) that is where the jungler started. Ask your top laner to watch and ward your blue buffand be mindful of invades early on by being prepared to see the enemy jungler. I have glanced at other Amumu Mobafire guides, and they are all telling you the same, most inefficient jungling routes EVER that are not worth the time! We start with the more experience-efficient camps first so they respawn faster. Be careful not to run out of mana with Despair, the damage over time makes the clear a lot quicker. Save your Smite until the end of your clear OR if you get invaded. You may be forced to Flash early however it's better to save yourself rather than giving first blood. Start with clearing red buff, Amumu is great at clearing multiple camps with his Despair; You should go for the Crimson Raptor camp next, the quickest and most satisfying camp to clear with Amumu since you have multiple bogies attacking you at once. This means your Tantrum's cooldown is reduced significantly every single time you get attacked, making Crimson Raptor an amazing camp to counter jungle since you do it very quickly by using Tantrum a lot! Greater Murk Wolf is the next camp, essentially we are pathing upwards and doing a full clear.
It is important to look at lanes while you're jungling so you get a sense of what's going on. This will improve your map awareness overall, next we are going to clearBlue Buff, Smite it and look for the Rift Scuttler crab to regen health. This is the hardest part of the clear because it is dangerous to walk out into the river versus certain matchups such as Lee Sin. However if you get a free crab then you have the ability to check for the enemy Crimson Raptor. Otherwise, after blue just do your Gromp and recall to buy your Stalker's Blade. When you run out of base, path Ancient Krug and look for the other Rift Scuttler, by then your Crimson Raptor will respawn allowing you to repeat your clear! This route will get you to Level 5 in 5 minutes~
Amumu Overview
Play Amumu. After You Watch this vid, of course.. hehe.
Watch Me Carry a 1/23 Akali
/league-of-legends/champion/amumu-23
scale and have a good early game. He is GREAT anti tank and it's important to pick him along with other ability power champions on your team. This way you can apply your passive, Cursed Touch with your other teammates and apply that extra 10% true damage with extra magic damage sources! Ganking is amazing post-6, so every game it's ideal to path in the jungle well to get your Ultimate Curse of the Sad Mummy as fast as possible. The Resolve Runes are to take the enemy team's late game out of the picture! Amumu naturally gets tanky, so zoning the enemy team is a great pro that he has for teamfighting & grouping up. Transcendence is a great rune choice for early CDR. Completing Frozen Heart grants you 20% cooldown reductionand scales well versus fed AD enemy champions who rely on attack speed. If you're versus critical strike ADCs such as Yasuo or Jhin, Randuin's Omen is a great item to counter them.
