Threats & Synergies
Pantheon completely destroys you. his early game presence means you can't do anything or he'll chunk half your hp. If you ever look to ult, he'll just W you. I tend to ban him.
Udyr can zoom towards you and stun you. Besides that, if you ever try to ult, he just needs to auto you to end it. Plus, that Phoenix form hurt man!
Senna is extremely strong versus you since she can bully you in lane. This only gets worse because she scales to the point where you'll never be able to hit her yet she'll take out most your hp. It's possible to win if Senna is bad/you're good!
Leona is pretty annoying to play against since her Q has such low cooldown. It doesn't help that she has a ton of CC with her E and Ult. Regardless, you can still win this as long as you take cleanse and let her engage first. Once she jumps on you or your support, you should be able to turn on the ADC in most cases.
Nautilus is similar to Leona except a bit worse to go versus. Laning versus him is way easier but in teamfights, he can just ult you from afar and you can't do anything about it. Be sure to wait for him to use it before you go in!
This annoying tree deals a ton of poke damage and shuts down your engage. When he was meta, I perma banned him.
This matchup is fairly skill based but still Samira favored. Every time you W, if Draven throws an axe, it'll consume it and he won't get it back. This works best versus Draven's with Hail of Blades.
This is very Aphelios favored but it's still skill dependent. If you get on top of Aphelios and he doesn't have Chakram, you'll do fine and kill him. The issue is he can destroy in lane with his range and he out scales you if you don't get a big lead.
Same thing as Aphelios. It favors Caitlyn if she's good, if not, you can easily turn it in your favor with your support!
Jhin is a hard matchup because of his scaling, range, and W. He can always CC chain you since your W doesn't block his, he can harass you in lane really well, and later in the game he'll one-shot you before you even get into the fight.
Blitz is kind of annoying but you can deal with him. He'll be holding ult or E for your ult so just keep that in mind. Otherwise, you should be okay, especially with an engage support.
The only reason I'm putting this as an even matchup is because the Ashe needs to be a good player for her to win. The issue is she can force you out of lane and hold her ult the entire time you fight her. If you ever try to ult, a good Ashe is going to stun you instantly. Otherwise, if you engage on her she's dead.
This matchup is also fairly skill dependent and volatile. You'll lose early trades if Kai'sa hits you with her Q but you can poke her from afar. All of her early game damage is in her W + passive proc, be sure to avoid it and you'll win the fight. Once she get's Q evolve, it's harder.
This matchup is somewhat Vayne favored and pretty volatile as she can always hold condemn for your ult. The thing is, it's easy to bait it out + if she doesn't condemn you, you'll be on top of her with your auto's and Q's. Keep in mind if your ult is going, it'll hit her in invisibility.
Jinx can poke you out of lane easily, especially if your support can't get on top of her. To make things worse, you can't dash through her traps so she can kite you around them. If you get a lead you'll destroy her. Otherwise, it's a bit hard.
Ezreal can be annoying if he's good but otherwise, you can easily kill him as long as he's not fed. Both of your E's are on decently long cooldowns, but his is slightly longer. Just be sure to pressure him early as he out ranges you mid game! This matchup favors Ezreal at first, but with practice, you can perform better here.
Miss Fortune is pretty dangerous. Her ability to constantly harass you and out trade you make her a menace to go versus. The good thing is, if you're able to dodge her harass and get on top of her, you'll kill her. Be careful though, if she get's ahead she will stay ahead.
Varus is annoying to deal with but if you can survive his harass, he's extremely vulnerable to you. That being said, the issue with this match up is that YOU as the Samira need to try extra hard to win it (block his ult, trade well, dodge harass).
A lot of people dislike the Sivir matchup. Personally, I think it's fairly winnable as long as you dodge her Q's. Again, per usual, if you can survive and then get on top of her, she's dead. It takes practice so take your time to learn your limits!
Honestly, I wanted to put this in the Minor category just because of how bad Xayah is at the moment (for most players). This match up is all about you blocking her feathers with your W. Don't forget your W timing got nerfed so be sure to time it right! Pre 6 you're extremely dangerous to her. Afterwards, you can still engage on her but be sure to escape her ult feathers after. Which by the way, it's a really long cooldown. You're Samira, just take her on extra hard when her ult is down!
I personally find this match up to be even but it's most definitely Tristana favored. That being said, for a majority of Samira players, this match up sucks and may even place it as an extreme counter. Your only real way to beat her is to block her bomb with your W (most Tristanas use their jump and bomb at the same time, use that for timing!). You can also consider taking exhaust for whenever she jumps on you but honestly, it's all about being as safe as possible until she gets greedy and oversteps.
This pick is super annoying and is worse due to the nerfs. Any time you go in, Galio is going to combo you and CC you. There's two options, either you force him to waste it on you without his ADC near (then engage after). Your second option is to have your support tank the CC then you engage on either Galio or the enemy ADC. It's a fairly hard match up that has only gotten harder since you can't E to allies anymore.
He can be moved to extreme if he gets fed. Garen is able to not only silence you, but he will spin on top of your body and ult you. He's dangerous because he's hard to kite, especially with stridebreaker, he has instant CC, you can't dash to allies so his E is always in your melee range, and he has no projectiles for you to block.
This used to be a skill match up but with the removal of your ally dash its significantly harder to dodge his E Q. You can only kill him with hard CC or if he wastes his nado/wind wall. Especially since he takes exhaust.
You can put this at the Major level but, Akali is extremely strong since she's able to quickly close the gap between you and her and quickly execute you. Alongside that, you can't ult outside of vision. You can CONTINUE ulting and hit her but if she's invis, you can't start your ultimate so she just 1 shots you every time.
I mean. This is just like Udyr. You engage, ult, then the bear slaps you and you're dead. He's really annoying to deal with and can often just solo kill you.
Unless he's with Lulu OR a GOOD Yuumi. You'll run this rat down if he's the ADC. If he's the support, it's GGs. If you have an engage support you can farm kills between him and his ADC.
Early/Early Mid Game you can deal with Choi'Gath decently. However, he's one of the few tanks that ruin your day. After about 23 minutes, he becomes unkillable even with LDR and cutdown. It doesn't help that since you're so short ranged, he can just silence you and do 1k true damage with his ultimate. Overall, it's not fun :(
Karma is pretty annoying to deal with. You can push her to the Major slot in some cases. The entire point of this matchup is to kill her before she pokes you and your support out. If you fail to do that, it's pretty doomed. Also, beware of Exhaust. She can easily Exhaust + R W you so that she stays healthy while you're stuck in place. Otherwise, she's super squishy and dies pretty easily.
Rell is a monster of a support when paired with you. That being said, she's also hard to go against. Early game, if you dodge her W, you're pretty set and can either kill her or her ADC. However, once you reach mid game, she can easily stun you very quickly while also grouping your team into one massive ball. Overall, it's annoying and a bit hard, but not unwinnable.
Haha Croc go brrrrrr. No, but really. If he's not super far ahead, you'll pretty fine. That being said, it's literally a Renek. If he's not ahead he failed at his job anyway. He can oneshot you, hard CC you, gap close, and survive your damage. Overall, a pretty nasty enemy to go against. Just hope you can dive past him and kill the rest of his team before he kills you.
Alistar is super annoying and can even be pushed to the extreme level. He can easily ult and tank your entire kit before knocking you up and away from his team. Not to mention even in lane he works as great disengage so it's hard to snowball regardless. All in all, this cow is gonna ruin your day.
This is literally Samira's best support. Rell can follow up on your engage, you can follow on hers, she slows and wraps the enemy for you with tons of CC. It's just great!
This is personally my favorite support since Swain will help you win the early game. The reason he's not at the top of the list is because you need a decent Swain player to pull it off well.
I mean she keeps you alive but it's really hard in most cases to play with her. You have 1 less body and CC to help you through the early game where you're supposed to be ahead. It's not optimal but it's "doable".
Same thing as Yuumi. It's just not as powerful as what you could potentially have.
Bard is a pretty okay support for Samira, The issue is you rely on how good he is + his ability to land his Q's.
The only reason Blitz isn't under strong is because if he misses his hook, you no longer have any power until it's back up. If it lands you've got a kill.
So, Nami isn't that bad. She's actually one of my favorite enchanters to play Samira with. She empowers your attacks, heals you, and gives you a knock-up. I'd say she barely belongs in this category since there's just better picks. But this isn't bad!
Ehh, it's strong yet not. He's decent because he deals a ton of damage, but he doesn't offer anything to Samira. Plus, if they engage on Brand you lose.
This is a great support since he'll be able to combo his ult with you later in the game. Plus, he has a really strong laning phase and can help you snowball.
He has powerful engage tools and an ultimate that can't be blocked. Plus, he has really high base damage. This man can really push your lane into a powerful position. Plus, if you have Naut, that means they dont! :^)
Leona is in the same boat as Swain and Naut. She has low CC cooldowns, strong engage, and empowers you by having a trigger. Overall, a really powerful support
Pretty much offers the same that I listed for all the other good supports. High damage, great CC, tanky, etc.
Pantheon provides you with a strong kill lane. I only have him in this category because he's not OP to have, but he feels nice.
Thresh isn't at the top category because he requires a lot more skill to pull off at a similar level. That being said, he's extremely good at keeping Samira safe and fairly decent at engaging fights for her.
Pls see Yuumi.
She's similar to brand, she can deal a good bit of damage but if they engage on her she's dead.
Alistar is a bit hard to pull off properly. But on a base level he's really nice. He offers CC, dive potential, and even sustain! Just be careful because if enemy has a strong level 1 they might abuse him.
Seraphine is in the Strong category if it's a great player, otherwise, she's just okay. She has long range CC and decent damage as well as ways to keep you alive. She's one of the few enchanters you don't have to hate as Samira.
Champion Build Guide
Here are my accounts for those interested! (Updated OP.GG!!! <3)
+High snowball potential, if you get a lead, you can take it to the next level!
+Strong Team Fighting Ability
+Her W. You can block extremely key ultimate's, like Ornn ult!
+High skill ceiling which means you can always learn something new!
+Extremely Fun and Rewarding once you master her!
-Useless when behind.
-Easily countered by Hard CC. (Aka, Requires Discipline)
-Extremely Hard to Master.
-Tends to be Feast or Famine.
Presence of Mind is very useful on Samira since it allows her to harass safely in lane as well as get a really nice refund of mana after a kill. Nothing feels worse than going to a fight and coming back with no mana! Can't push a wave if you're oom! A lot of people underestimate this rune but it's extremely useful! That being said, if you don't want to take Presence of Mind, take Overheal instead.
Legend: Bloodline is free stats that can help you have innate life steal later on. It's a great rune, plus, you don't do that great with the other two. While you may have a stronger earlier spike with Alacrity, you're not looking to use that much attack speed later on regardless so it's a wasted stat. Just take your free life steal investment and move on.
Last Stand is what you tend to take in most games. Last stand is best paired with Ravenous hunter and Blood Thirster if you're going to be taking longer fights! It will empower your healing and allow you to survive and dish out consistent DPS.
If you're not going for Blood Thirster and Ravenous, feel free to take Coup de Grace. This pairs extremely well with Infinity Edge 3rd Item as you're looking to shred fights as soon as possible.
I recommend taking Cut Down if you're versus a team with a few tanks and/or Bruisers. It synergizes EXTREMELY well with Lord Dominik's Regards due to the % HP damage boost you get! If you're playing tank shred Samira. It's a must!
Galeforce: This item provides Samira with some much needed mobility. After the nerfs, she can feel a bit immobile, this is a good way to fix it. I wouldn't recommend picking this up in a ranked game most of the time. It's a way different playstyle but it's great at snowballing your lead. Plus, it's a free way to dodge something like a bard ult! That being said, 95% of the time, you won't be building this anyway.
The Collector: The Collector is the generic Samira item that everyone loves. It's passive is a bit overrated but, it's still a true damage execute. Nonetheless, it's one of the best items she can buy due to its stats. You'll go this most games as a standard 2nd item since it allows you to snowball your lead, delete squishies, plus, there's not that many other options.
Lord Dominik's Regards: Lord Dominik's Regards functions as an AMAZING 2nd item vs teams that have even just a few tanks/bruisers. It deals similar damage to collector with the trade off of additional tank shred. This is your tool to win mid game vs tanky teams (most games don't get to 3-4 items so building it late is useless)! With it's amazing buffs (and even though it's getting SMALL NERFS), it's a really good item 2nd on a ton of ADCs at the moment, including Samira. Don't make the mistake of stalling this out!
Serpent's Fang: I honestly rarely go Serpent's Fang and kinda dislike it but, it's really good vs shield reliant teams. Things like a lot of champs that stack steraks, Seraphine, Ivern, etc. will give you the full value of this item. Otherwise, don't bother
Mercurial Scimitar: Since your 2nd slot tends to be pretty flexible with Samira, it's a really good place to put your QSS item if needed. As stated with LDR, games don't last that long anymore. Don't lose a match because you decided to greed and wait to grab QSS 4th item instead of 2nd!
Bloodthirster: A lot of Samira players love BT because it heals for so much and gives you the classic Healing Samira vibes. Unfortunately, healing has been nerfed for pretty much your whole kit so it's not as good. That being said, it's great for games where you need additional survivability and don't get bursted quickly. This item is still an amazing option if you're playing into teams where team fights are going to be lasting a bit. Be sure to pair this with Ravenous Hunter and Last Stand.
Sterak's Gage: If you opted for the Galeforce build and you need additional survivability, here's your option! If you went Immortal Shieldbow, you CANNOT build it. Like, the game won't let you. That being said, this is extremely rare due to Galeforce becoming even more niche than it already was :(( .
Mercurial Scimitar: I mean.... We all know what it does. Be sure to pick this up if the enemy has hard CC that can stop you in your tracks. Things like Skarner ult or Malzahar ult are nightmares to deal with, without this especially because you're short ranged!
Guardian Angel: GA is a great item if you feel like you only need a small bit of defense and want some additional damage. I personally enjoy buying the stopwatch before a big fight so that I can use it if needed. It's also good if your team has good peel + extended fights!
Randuin's Omen: A lot of people forget about this item and are afraid to build it on ADCs. On someone like Samira it's active is super strong since you're near a few people when you use it. Not only is this a good armor option for when the enemy has a lot of AD, but you'll take reduced damage from crits and get a nice chunk of health as well! If you're tired of dealing with the enemy team's Zed + Cait + Irelia, this is for you. Otherwise, steer clear.
Spirit Visage: Here's the MR counterpart of Randuin's Omen. I rarely build it but when I do, it's amazing. Assuming this is near the end of the game, champions like Evelynn and Ryze will instantly delete you. This is your option to stop that from happening + it empowers your healing from both Immortal Shieldbow and Bloodthirster!
Mercury's Treads: This is your MR and CC solution, it's not too great for laning phase unless you're vs mages, but it'll help a good bit if the enemy has AP mid and jg that can kill you!
Plated Steelcaps: Again, here's your armor option. This is really good vs auto attack reliant champs! Champions like Lucian, Rengar, Caitlyn, and even Vayne are dominated by this item until later on. It's a really good choice for some defensive stats early on!
Boots of Swiftness: These are rarely ever used. They're nice vs comps that you have to reallyyyy kite with but otherwise, it's a meme or just sometimes fun to go. You pretty much have a free version of these build into your passive soooooo.
Lucidity Boots: These boots are popping around in a few places but again, they tend to be in super high elo games. The purpose is to gain additional CDR on your summoner spells as well as giving your some extra Q spam-ability. It's nice if you can't dive into the enemy team comp AND don't need armor which will rarely happen. The real value is the seconds cut off your flash, especially when combined with cosmic insight.
While I work on new videos to make better combos and explanations I want to make sure there's still something educational here! So, here's my old guide video. (The content is old but all the combo's are still valid! The video link will automatically skip the combo's section <3)
Here are some written out combos! As mentioned above, the videos themselves are still being worked on :(((. Regardless, keep in mind that a lot of these combos are situational, niche, or overall, just too unrealistic to be used often. Most of the time, you'll be autoing and Q'ing before diving in so it's rare you'll have to perform an instant E-S combo.
Instant S Combos (Super Impractical)
AA | W | E+Q | AA | W2 | S |
AA | W | E | Q | AA | W2 | R |
Fast, Yet Practical, Combos
AA | E | AA | Q | AA | W | R |
MOST Common Team Fight Combos
AA | Q | AA | W+E+Q | R (Needs lvl 9/Q Max)
Notes + Disclaimers!
- Q + E has wider arc and *citation needed* more lifesteal than E+Q. However, Both are fine
- There are a ton of other combos not mentioned here but they are beyond the realm of usable in most games. These include using your taunt for a style, using E W through multiple people, Flash canceling with taunt/E/W, etc. There a lot of cool videos that cover things like this! Although impractical, they're still neat!
Hope to see you on the rift, summoners! <3 - Urason
