Welcome to my Comprehensive Lucian Guide! My name is Daniel (known on the rift as 𝐋𝐋𝐓𝖗𝖎𝖌𝖌𝖊𝖗) and this guide will cover everything there is to know about my favorite marksman Lucian.

I started playing Lucian in season 5 when I played amateur in domestic tournaments. In one of those tournaments, Lucian was being contested very heavily and I managed to play him to that contestion to carry my team to victory. Since then, I've racked up over 14M points with him across several accounts and playing thousands of games with him each season.
To me Lucian fits my aggressive playstyle and enables my preference to take matters into my own hands and accrue my own leads early on. This caster style marksman is not only a strong pick in the right hands, but also allows for efficient smurfing and flashy playmaking. If anyone has the time, I stream and upload on the following platforms:Twitch, Kick, Youtube, Tiktok, Discord and TwitterTo entertain and educate my community on playstyles/builds. I've also become well known as the best Lucian player in NA next to Ostrich and Doublelift. My visual and comprehensive youtube guide would compliment reading these chapters avidly for both new and experienced Lucian players.

RANKED STATISTICS

I have achieved challenger eight times across season 8 until now, and typically am hovering high Grandmaster during the ranked season. This guide is inspired by years of experience through the highs and lows of Lucian in several metas so I hope you enjoy!

Is a champion that is extremely fun to play, and has a unique caster-marksman style of gameplay. He is meant to be played aggressively, and is equipped with tools to make very flashy plays.
Although he isnt the strongest, and is only viable with a few enchanter types of supports, I still choose to play him because of his skill ceiling and his ability to smurf in lower ranks.
Furthermore, Lucian is the type of ADC to be able to make picks and provide pseudo-engages for fights because he is slippery and nimble. if youre like me and enjoy this type of gameplay and style, this guide is the ultimate tool to master this champion through and through.
Ideally, you would want to draft Lucian if your team already has enough sustained damage, or has CC setup for quick kills and good skirmishing power. Lucian thrives in the 3V3 and even 4V4 skirmishes that happen for objectives in the early portions of the game. Lucian should not be drafted if your team is bursty and lacks sustained damage such as Leblanc or excessive tanks.

Lucians passive contains two parts: Lightslinger and Vigilance
Lightslinger allows for lucian to fire two shots with one basic attack after using any ability. In essence, he will always be most effective when following each ability with a double shot while cancelling the double shot animation with the next ability.
Vigilance- Lucian doubleshots can be enhanced with additional magic damage if it is activated. It is activated with any empowerment (movement speed boost, shield, heal, armor/magic resist buff) or when an ally damages a target tagged by your Ardent Blaze.

Lucian's Q: Piercing Lightis essential for his single target damaging combos, lane and wave pressuring/pushing. Keep in mind that it may be treated as a trickshot where you can use the projectile on a creep or alternative target for its extension to hit targets behind it in a line. In lane, using Piercing Light to last hit several creeps at once, a creep further to reach, or to trickshot onto enemies is the most effective way of using this ability.
Quoted TIP:It is always advised to start Piercing Light on Lucian when you aren't cheesing or skirmishing the enemy level one. This is because it allows you to poke the enemy in lane using trickshot, establish lane control with its great pushing power, and is good for level one quick trades.

EXAMPLE 1

EXAMPLE 2

Ardent Blaze is a three part spell and is not used for its damage really, but rather a method of activating vigilance in the absense of an enchanter or empowering champion, and its passive flat movement speed it provides when allies damage tagged enemies. This abilities splashes in a line and can be used to last hit creeps too far to reach from safety.
Quoted TIP:You can start Ardent Blaze in a game where you are cheesing in tribush or there is a level one skirmish because it serves more useful than Piercing Light or e. This is because not only does it allow you to chase and kite targets (flat movement speed when damaging an enemy tagged by the Ardent Blaze mark) but it also provides your allies a method of activating vigilance which grant your auto attacks additional magic damage.

Early on, this ability is very important as it has a relatively longer cooldown and should only be used when the enemy jungler is not bottom side. Using e to go in when the jungler ganks detriments many Lucian players. Instead, one should bait the jungler with regular movement and use E to evade them.
Relentless Pursuit is lucians biggest mobility source, and can be taken off cooldown by doubleshotting enemies and creeps (2X as fast on enemy champions). With the correct builds above, your E should be off cooldown after each rotation requiring one doubleshot on one enemy. This is demonstrated as:

EXAMPLE 1

EXAMPLE 2

EXAMPLE 3
You do not need to use the entire length of the dash, and an experienced burst combo with Lucian involves a short e where you dash on the same spot allowing for a faster incoming "double double" shot. This is demonstrated as:

EXAMPLE 1

The Culling provides Lucian with a long range lethal tool, It can also be used for poke to get a target to lethal health and being vulnerable for tower dives.

The Culling may also be used after tagging a target with Ardent Blaze to guarantee that you catch up to that target if they are alone. You may use Flash to reposition yourself through The Culling duration.

This ultimate spell should often be used to pick off squishies before objectives to give your team an edge on those objectives. The Culling should not be used to clear minions because its damage is heavily reduced against creeps. Should also not be used on tanks where the damage is negligible.

The First Strike And Sorcery Sorcery rune combination is advised for experienced Lucian players and is ideal for squishy enemy team compositions;augments excellent bursting and executing combos throughout all portions of the game.

INSPIRATION

First Strike is recommended versus champions that cannot easily get first hits on you (often melee supports, tanks, low range marksman). This rune allows for simple combos to deal heavy burst onto targets because of the 7% damage increase. Gives an damage spike on your The Culling which can be comboed with Relentless Pursuit to reposition and chase down enemies. This rune is advised for more experienced Lucian players and can be timed on its recovery; can be re-activated to damage targets immediately when First Strike comes off cooldown (if they hit you slightly before this time, it wont matter because First Strikeisn't up to put on cooldown).
Getting free boots gives you a large lane gold advantage and provides you to build early attack damage , Additionally, the magical boots allow you to delay your boots since they provide an additional but slight movement advantage when compared to traditional boots. This may even result in completing two items such as Stormrazor and The Collector while having your magical footwear.
Biscuits are used just like health potions and allow you to use more abilities in lane because each biscuit provides mana and max mana, Also very valuable for Lucian in poke matchups for additional sustain. Selling these provides the maximum mana pool upon consuming it.
This rune allows you to play more confidently with Flash and Exhaust being available for use more often throughout a game. Make sure to keep Flash and Exhaust available for mid game objectives like dragons and heralds.

SORCERY

Manaflow band is recommended for this build path because it provides the little mana required for Lucian to be durable and able to combo enemies. It synergies with First Strike because you want to be poking enemies with Piercing Light trickshots and Ardent Blaze in lane.
Scorch is recommended because it allows your poke abilities to deal even more burn damage. This rune/build path is often paired with Milio or Nami so scorch adds that much more damage on top of Milio burn and First Strike bonus damage.

SHARDS

Attack speed is a very standard shard for most marksmen. Valuable early attack speed for early all-in trades, easier creep scoring.
Adaptive force is recommended for Lucian because he is a caster style marksman, so this allows for his burst in the early and mid game.
Scaling Health is advised in poke matchups, Flat health is recommended in all-in matchups, Provides you with poke sustain upon levelling up and ability to contest tougher matchups.

The Press the Attack and Inspiration rune combination is advised for less experienced Lucian players and is an all purpose rune choice; augments excellent bursting and combos. Press the Attack is recommended versus champions that can easily get first hits on you; (often ranged supports, instant point and click Area of Damage abilities, high range marksman).

PRECISION

because of the Lightslinger passive, Lucian esentially doubleshots per auto and applies two stacks of Press the Attack each time. This means he may easily activate Press the Attack. Although First Strike may deal more burst, this rune is the second option when they have unavoidable damage or have plenty of range making it hard to activate. Instead, Press the Attack is always ready to be used and is the next best damage and burst option.
Becauase PTA involves building Essence Reaver, Presence of Mind has a lower value and Triumph is recommended. With Triumph , Lucian can go for more aggressive plays really pushing the limit of how much he can accomplish. Having a successful start to a skirmish snowballs the rest of the fight with this rune.
Legend: Bloodline provides scaling sustain for Lucian in the mid and late parts of the game. When you take poke or damage for enemies but need to remain healthy, this rune helps you get some health back if there are any nearby creeps or camps.
Cut down is an optimal rune for when the enemy team consists of at least two tanks. This rune will give you much more damage for even bruiser enemies (not necessarily tanks). It also has a synergy with Long Sword start lanes. It is advised to take Coup de Grace if the enemy team is all squishy however.

Getting free boots gives you a large lane gold advantage and provides you to build early attack damage , Additionally, the magical boots allow you to delay your boots since they provide an additional but slight movement advantage when compared to traditional boots. FLASH & EXHAUST

VS

FLASH & CLEANSE

• Taking Flash on marksmans is regular, and should be used generally to escape situations that would result in death or blink on enemies for kills. With Lucian you can use Piercing Light at the same time that you use Flash in order to lengthen your Piercing Light range. Additionally, You can also use Flash to reposition yourself during The Culling

• Taking Exhaust is what you'll be running most of the time. Its good for all purpose use, especially against champions such as Draven, Samira, Nilah, and other all in types of marksman. It is especially strong as an engage tool when receiving ganks when paired with relentless pursuit; slowing down and bursting the enemy target as the jungle looks to close the gap. It is necessary into one shot assassins and some burst mages that are obviously dealing their burst.
• Taking Flash explained previously why we should always take it.
Note Cleanse and Flash can be used together to avoid knockups and ambiguous types of crowd control ( Lee Sin Flash + Dragon's Rage and Nautilus Depth Charge).

• Taking Cleanse is the only other option of summoner spells. This spell should be taken against unavoidable or excess amounts of crowd control. Cleanse should be used against champions such as Leona, Amumu, Seraphine/ Sona, Twisted Fate, and Cassiopeia.

VS ENGAGE OR ALL IN

Doran's Blade and Health Potion start is optimal for lanes that involve crowd control and aggressive lanes such as Nautilus/ Samira or Amumu/ Kai'Sa. In these lanes, you will take minimal amounts of poke, and if you do take damage you will most likely get locked down and fully committed on. The 80 flat hp from Doran's Blade is effective for these situations and the passive allows you to lifesteal the small amounts of damage you take.

VS POKE OR SUSTAIN

Long Sword and 3x Health Potion start is optimal for lanes that involve poke (ranged enchanters/long range) and sustain such as Caitlyn/ Sona, Draven/ Soraka. In these lanes, you will take large amounts of poke and if you dont have enough effective health you may slowly get out pressured and forced to recall . The good effective health from these potions allows you keep up with these lanes and the Long Sword provides additional AD so that you may have better odds forcing some early kills in lane against these scaling lanes.

VS SQUISHY ENEMY TEAM

This core build is very effective against squishy enemy team compositions. Your power spikes come from each item completion, once at the Essence Reaver so you may use spellblade from Sheen, can spam abilities without mana issues, and have considerable early ability haste and attack damage.
Second, Navori Quickblades gives you the threshold ability haste to unlock infinite relentless pursuit dashes in skirmishes and gives your Piercing Light and The Culling more damage (4% per critical strike item). Since this core build includes Essence Reaver, Berserker's Greaves may be built to compensate for the little attack speed Lucian may require.
The Collector is also a very valuable option for Lucian third item because it provides all the stats he needs: Attack damage, Lethality, Critical strike chance, and improves executing power. The Collector combined with Navori Quickblades boosts your Piercing Light and The Culling ability damage by a significant amount.
This core build requires you to be proficient with your combos, catching enemies off guard with high mobility and crazy single target damage output. Enables you to be able to dash in on enemies from the outskirts of the fight and weave in and out of the fight as targets become vulnerable. Keep in mind when playing into ranged that The Culling may be used to provide high-ranged damage for a small window of the fight.

VS TANKY ENEMY TEAM

This core build is very effective against tanky enemy team compositions. Your power spike is most apparent at three items, where your Navori Quickblades and high cooldown reduction build allow to weave in and out of fights bursting and evading tanks and carries. Essence Reaver sets you up for the infinite no cooldown Relentless Pursuit in the mid game after Navori Quickblades completion. Navori Quickblades amplifies The Culling and Piercing Light damage by 12%, lowers your ultimate cooldown so it may be used more often, and gives you the extremely low E cooldown. Because this enables ability spam, mana is also not an issue because of the mana regen from Essence Reaver as early as in lane. This is why Presence of Mind is not needed and Triumph is optimal. Berserker's Greaves provides the small amount of attack speed to allow for combos to feel more natural and not drawn out.
This build should be used when they have more than 2 tanks ( Sion, Sejuani) or 1 tank and 1 off tank ( Sion, Viego). This core build requires you to be proficient with combos and Relentless Pursuit mechanics, being able to engage and disengage fights using your Relentless Pursuit to consistently reposition yourself and combo enemies. The lord dominik's regards will be a noticable damage increase against tanks Lord Dominik's Regards is an excellent item for Lucian because it provides attack damage, tank shredding effect, and critical strike chance that provides your ultimate with more damage, and increases the value of your Navori Quickblades increased ability damage per critical strike chance item. Essence Reaver compliments this build very well as it gives you the required mana to spam your abilities as much as you can during the skirmishes and teamfights. Additionally, Essence Reaver gives you more cooldown reduction to have your Relentless Pursuit and Piercing Light off cooldown as often as possible.
You can really see the power of this combo as kiting tanks and dealing reliable damage in the mid game; winning teamfights and taking away objectives becomes apparent.

LORD DOMINIK'S REGARDS

Lord Dominik's Regards should be built if they are heavy on armor and tanks. 2 offtanks, 1 tank and 1 offtank, or 2 tanks that are building armor should be enough of a hint to grab this penetrating item situationally.

GUARDIAN ANGEL

Guardian Angel should be built if they are heavy on Attack Damage, or have one or two strong AD assassins such as Zed, Qiyana, and Talon among others. Remember the stopwatch component of this item is a very strong game changer. Look to stopwatch the zed ultimate follow up damage, Qiyana ultimate, Talon burst.

DEATH'S DANCE

Death's Dance may be built if they are heavy on the Attack Damage, but they are not assassin-type champions such as Fiora and Viego (burst you but not one shot you).

BLOODTHIRSTER

Bloodthirster can be built for enemies that are squishy for additional damage, and for enemies that can poke you from a distance, such as Varus, Zoe, Xerath and others. The lifesteal will allow you to be durable even while you take some poke (which may deal considerable damage) throughout the mid and late stages of the game to remain in skirmishes around Barons and Dragons. Keep in mind you can lifesteal off lane minions and jungle camps nearby.

MERCURIAL SCIMITAR

Mercurial Scimitar is a good option for Lucian against heavy Magic Damage enemy compositions that possess heavy lockdown/crowd control/stuns. The excellent part of this item is that it gives Critical Strike Chance, which synergizes with Navori Quickblades Impermanence passive giving your abilities +4% damage.

MAW OF MALMORTIUS

Maw of Malmortius an option against team comps that are heavy on Magic Damage in the burst mode. This item gives you more durable access to these mages, weakening their burst and lethal prowess.

RAPID FIRECANNON

Rapid Firecannon should be built if you don't fear the enemy poke and have some other means of sustain such as a Nami, Soraka or other empowering enchantress. This item synergizes with Lucian's Lightslinger passive where the Rapid Fire Cannon auto attack combined with Relentless Pursuit can really close a considerable gap and indeed is a double auto attack from afar.

VOLTAIC CYCLOSWORD

Voltaic Cyclosword should be built if you are looking to run the one shot build with First Strike along with a Milio or Nami. This item allows for your energized attacks to recharge sooner and enabling you to proc your on hit effects (energized) such as Stormrazor or Rapid Firecannon.

VS SQUISHY ALL PURPOSE

This core build is very effective against squishy enemy team compositions. Your power spikes come from each item completion, once at the Essence Reaver so you may spam abilities without worrying about mana; allows you to burst enemies with the spellblade passive from Sheen and provides a spike in early attack damage, ability haste, and critical strike chance. Second, Navori Quickblades gives you loads of damage on your abilities and ultimate (scaling with critical strike chance) and plenty of ability haste per autos on enemies. Combined with Essence Reaver, Navori Quickblades provides the threshold ability haste for Lucian to have an infinite amount of Relentless Pursuit. Berserker greaves provide the small attack speed to allow for combos to feel natural and less drawn out.
Additionally for squishy targets, The Collector may be built because it once again spikes your ability damage through the critical strike chance and Navori Quickblades passive, and with the lethality can allow you to deal closer to true damage on these targets. You can really see the power of this build in the mid game through picking off squishies in the mid game and stealing away objectives.
Guardian Angel is good especially into assassins and bruisers. Allows for you to position more aggressively and another chance at kiting the enemies with Relentless Pursuit. Rapid Firecannon is also optimal as a final item in these games because of the range problem it fixes for Lucian and teamfightin becomes easier also. The synergy between Rapid Firecannon and Lucian is that you can Relentless Pursuit in range of enemies to DOUBLESHOT them from afar, effectively applying all on-hit effects. Use Rapid Firecannon in combination with The Culling to pick off (and oneshot) enemies in the mid and later parts of the game.

VS TANKY ALL PURPOSE

This core build is very effective against tanky enemy team compositions. Kraken Slayer is a good alternative to Essence Reaver when tank shredding is required. Each 3rd auto provides additional on hit physical damage that increases with number of times this 3rd auto is completed. Kraken Slayer is ideal for early and mid games where the enemy picks up early and heavy armor ( Sion, Viego, or Sejuani with Plated Steelcaps and/or Thornmail. your Navori Quickblades and high cooldown reduction build allow to weave in and out of fights bursting and evading tanks and carries. Lucidity boots set you up for the infinite no cooldown Relentless Pursuit in the mid game after Navori Quickblades completion. Navori Quickblades amplifies your ultimates damage by 12%, lowers your ultimate cooldown so it may be used more often, and gives you the extremely low E cooldown.
The lord dominicks regards doesn't feel required third because Navori Quickblades gives you very strong kiting power and amplifies your abilities damage by 12% (up to 20% full build).
With the Lord Dominik's Regards, The Culling should be able to really deal a significant amount of damage to even tanks. You can really see the power of this combo as kiting tanks and dealing reliable damage in the mid game; winning teamfights and taking away objectives becomes apparent.
The final two items Bloodthirster and Immortal Shieldbow give you plenty of life steal to be able to survive these tanks crowd control, making you very difficult to kill and both providing value to your Navori Quickblades and critical strike chance to ability damage synergy. Elixir of Wrath further improves your life steal and provides a temporary boost in attack damage. [[Farsight alteration is also recommended right at level 9 so that youre not vulnerable when walking blindly into objectives or in the fog of war.

VS FULL MAGIC DAMAGE SQUISHY TEAM

Mercury's Treads provide the additional magic resist and tenacity to help against being one shot or crowd controlled into death. You may have some difficulties with the smoothness of the combos since you do lack the small attack speed that Lucianrequires for this.
The Maw of Malmortius gives you the defensive power to withstand ability power burst. The Maw of Malmortius gives you even more Durability from burst mages and Ability Power bruisers. The Collector also allows you to quickly burst down squishy mages with combos and The Culling. Edge of Night provides you with an extra layer of added security into these crowd controlling spels that often lead to deaths making you overwhelmingly difficult to crowd control and burst down.
You can really see the power of this combo as picking off squishies in the mid game and stealing away objectives becomes apparent, while being durable against burst and ability power bruisers. The Elixir of Iron is the better choice in these scenarios because it gives you even more durability into ability power burst through providing additional HP and tenacity. With this build, you have the ability to tank some ability power burst, one shot the your enemies, resist and lower crowd control time.

VS FULL MAGIC DAMAGE TANKY TEAM

This core build is very effective against tanky enemy team compositions that deal magic damage. Kraken Slayer is a good alternative to Essence Reaver when tank shredding is required. Each 3rd auto provides additional on hit physical damage that increases with number of times this 3rd auto is completed. Kraken Slayer is ideal for early and mid games where the enemy picks up early and heavy armor ( Sion, Viego, or Sejuani ) with Plated Steelcaps and Thornmail. your Navori Quickblades and high cooldown reduction build allow to weave in and out of fights bursting and evading tanks and carries.
Lord Dominik's Regards is a good item to compliment Kraken Slayer to shred tanks and Maw of Malmortius is recommended later into the game when magic damage and the exhausting tanks become more apparents. Bloodthirster is recommended to appear more tankier and have a durable chance to kite out the tanks and survive their crowd control and slow magic damage. Elixir of Iron can also provide additional durability and HP is very valuable into these types of enemies. This build should be used when they have more than 2 tanks ( Sion, Sejuani ) or 1 tank and 1 off tank ( Sion, Galio ).

VS FULL ATTACK DAMAGE TANKY TEAM

This core build is very effective against tanky enemy team compositions that deal physical damage mainly. Your power spike is most apparent at three items, where your Navori Quickblades and high cooldown reduction build allow to weave in and out of fights bursting and evading tanks and carries. Plated Steelcaps set you up for the added durability against AD assassins and physical damage generally. Note that these boots increase Lucian's limits during tower dives and neutral buffs. Navori Quickblades amplifies your ultimates damage by 12%, lowers your ultimate cooldown so it may be used more often, and gives you the extremely low E cooldown.
This build should be used when they have more than 2 tanks (Sion, Sejuani) or 1 tank and 1 off tank ( Sion, Viego). This core build requires you to be proficient with combos and Relentless Pursuit mechanics, being able to engage and disengage fights using your Relentless Pursuit to consistently reposition yourself and combo enemies. The Lord Dominik's Regards is required third because it gives you very strong tank shredding power and synergizes with Navori Quickblades that gives you very strong kiting power and amplifies your abilities damage by 12% (up to 20% full build). The hidden benefit of using Essence Reaver and not Kraken Slayer is that you can build Plated Steelcaps and still meet the ability haste threshold for the infinite Relentless Pursuit uptime.
The Death's Dance combined with Plated Steelcaps and Bloodthirster gives you physical damage durability and a high damage dealing build. Because the enemies are tanky, you often arent being one shot but slowly being crowd controlled and killed. This is why Bloodthirster allows you to lifesteal during that extensive time and makes you feel much more tank. Elixir of Iron is recommended over Elixir of Wrath because this build provides plenty of lifesteal, so HP will become more valuable in these scenarios. You can really see the power of this combo as surviving attack damage bruisers while still dealing reliable damage in the mid game; winning teamfights and taking away objectives becomes apparent.

VS FULL ATTACK DAMAGE SQUISHY TEAM

This build is recommended when playing into many attack damage assassins and marksmans that are squishy. Essence Reaver is the best early game item to get a head start on attack damage, critical strike chance, ability haste, and the ability to spam your abilities as a caster style marksman. The Collector is preferred over Navori Quickblades because the weaving in and out style is not applicable in this case. These assassins will one shot you very fast and its up to you to take that one chance to dodge key abilities ( Zed shurikens, Qiyana ultimate) to avoid being assassinated while trying to dish out your own damage (overloaded with the build) to try to one shot them in your one rotation. Plated Steelcaps can also provide you with some of the durability required to survive these assassins in the early/mid game.
Considering that you dont have the attack speed required to make the combos feel smooth, it is recommended that you build Rapid Firecannon next to compete with marksmans and to poke melee assassins from far away. Your biggest powerspike will come from your Infinity Edge completion where your auto attacks will feel overwhelming and bursty.
Bloodthirster is the final item in this build so that you can always one shot an assassin as they are trying to assassinate you, and survive some of their burst through your healing and Plated Steelcaps armor. Elixir of Iron is recommended because you will already have the life steal from Bloodthirster and the additional health will allow you to feel tankier than usual.

VS SQUISHY AND POKE ENEMY

This core build is very effective against squishy long-range enemy team compositions . Berserker's Greaves provide the small attack speed to allow for combos to feel natural and less drawn out. You can swap these boots out for mercury treats or berserker greaves if they have a fed damage type member on their team.
The Rapid Firecannon synergizes with Lucian and his Lightslinger passive because you can Relentless Pursuit on enemies and get a double auto attack on one enemy from a very far distance. Into long range, Rapid Firecannon provides Lucian with the range he needs to compete with these artillery champs especially when combined with the Bloodthirster to heal up the poke damage you do end up taking.
Finally, the last item Edge of Night gives you a shield from key abilities so that the enemy has a harder time poking you down, or catching you with ranged crowd control. This item also provides you with HP to be able to withstand some of the poke you do take. Elixir of Iron is also preferred because you already have lifesteal from Bloodthirster. Lethality also spikes lucians Piercing Light damage but does not provide you with The Culling damage. If you are playing into squishy champions, The Culling does more than enough You can really see the power of this combo as picking off squishies in the mid game and stealing away objectives becomes apparent.

VS SQUISHY AND TANK MIX (MORE TANKY)

This core build is very effective against tanky enemy team compositions that deal physical damage mainly. Your power spike is most apparent at three items, where your Navori Quickblades and high cooldown reduction build allow to weave in and out of fights bursting and evading tanks and carries. Berserker greaves provides you with the essential attack speed for the combos to feel smoother. Navori Quickblades amplifies your ultimates damage by 12%, lowers your ultimate cooldown so it may be used more often, and gives you the extremely low E cooldown.
The Lord Dominik's Regards is required third because it gives you very strong tank shredding power and synergizes with Navori Quickblades that gives you very strong kiting power and amplifies your abilities damage by 12% (up to 20% full build). The hidden benefit of using Essence Reaver and not Kraken Slayer is that you can build berserker graves and still meet the ability haste threshold for the infinite Relentless Pursuit uptime.
Bloodthirster and Kraken Slayer as final items will give you more durability and late game ramping up damage to effectively take down these tanks with ease. The lifesteal is important because tanks need some time to output their damage and the Bloodthirster provides you with the defensive tools to not only survive but also to deal more damage: both Bloodthirster and Kraken Slayer provide attack damage and critical strike that provides additional value to your Navori Quickblades through the critical strike and ability damage interaction. Elixir of Iron is preferred over Elixir of Wrath because your damage will already be very high against a generally tanky team, and you already have lifesteal. Being able to withstand more damage is valued higher here.

VS SQUISHY AND TANK MIX (MORE SQUISHY)

The Collector is also a ver valuable option for Lucian third item because it provides all the stats he needs: Attack damage, Lethality, Critical strike chance, and improves executing power into a generally squishy enemy team.
Incase of any tanky members that are fed, Lord Dominik's Regards is recommended along with Bloodthirster to give you a spike in damage from your Piercing Light and The Culling through the Navori Quickblades interaction with critical strike chance. Elixir of Iron is advised into squishier champions that have potential to burst you down and to avoid overstacking too much life steal.

KOREAN ENERGIZED BUILD

This build is considered an 'advanced' build because there are several conditions that need to be met in order for it to be viable in solo queue. Unlike professional play. that is calculated and knowledgeable, solo queue is more variable and inconsistent; introducing a new play-style for Lucian could be detrimental to ones league points.
With that being said, this energized build is very over powered when dealing into squishy champions while having an enchanter that can boost your movement speed, provide you with passive stacks, and give your auto attacks extra power (quite often Milio or Nami).
The conditions that are ideal for this build to excel at what it does are: enemy team is generally squishy (What is the definition of squishy? Teams that have 4 squishy champs and one tank, 3 squishy and 2 bruisers, all squishy) The second requirement is that you have a support such as Nami or Milio to further boost your one shotting potential. The final requirement is that you are not laning into champs that have too much range or instant damage to put your First Strike on cooldown (such as Morgana W, Soraka E, Miss Fortune E, Twitch poison DOT).
The reasons that these conditions exist is because the build doesn't prioritize Lucian's typical playstyle: weaving in and out of fights, durability, ability haste. Instead, it prioritizes lethal and on-hit energized damage from very far away utilizing Rapid Firecannon. Because the style includes trying to one shot enemies, First Strike is highly recommended and consequently can be hit or miss in lane.
This new hyper-aggressive Lucian playstyle is very satisfying and fun to play. Using your Relentless Pursuit auto Piercing Light combo deals a considerable amount of damage because of your energized on-hit effects. First Strike upfront damage, additional burn from Milio or bubble autos from Nami, burn from Sorcery. The reason this combo is overwhelmingly strong is because you can proc it from very far away using Rapid Firecannon. The reason this build fell off during the good part of season 13 is because of the Nami nerfed interactions with Lucian and the nerfed passive on-hit damage for Lucian with enchanters while simultaneously buffing his crowd control on-hit passive damage with tanky supports. Since that time, Nami has been slowly buffed, and the new Imperial Mandate is much stronger than before. Additionally Voltaic Cyclosword allows for Lucian to charge his energized attack MUCH sooner so that you can essentially get consecutive double shots on enemies from very far away that benefit from Rapid Firecannon.
The downside of this build and playstyle is that once you've used Relentless Pursuit to engage, you do not have a fast way of recovering your Relentless Pursuit because your ability haste isn't as high as before, and you dont benefit from Navori Quickblades ability haste interactions with your doubleshots. In essence, you have much more upfront damage that falls of and 'resets' but lack the consistent ramping up damage and ability to kite out enemies using Relentless Pursuit plenty of times.
To start the build Voltaic Cyclosword is recommended first item that provides plenty of burst because lethality is currently very strong and The Brutalizer is a good starting item. Early critical strike chance isn't too valuable and the lethal upfront damage works very well with Lucian. Next Stormrazor is recommended to provide additional on-hit energy damage and provides mobility after you use your auto. Together Voltaic Cyclosword and Stormrazor essentially slow the enemy and speed you up to provide the kiting power for Lucian in this build. Lucidity boots are recommended because of the lack of ability haste that is required. Attack speed is not required as you are looking to quickyl combo someone, then either commit to killing them or back off and wait for your next Relentless Pursuit to use another Rapid Firecannon energized auto.
Some pros build Navori Quickblades to have the best of both worlds (long range damage and kiting power) and others commit to the oneshot style and substitute Infinity Edge. If they do have a tank or two, Lord Dominik's Regards can be built also to tackle them down. Elixir of Wrath is recommended to fully commit to this aggressive playstyle.
I've had PLENTY of fun with this build (especially back in the day with Galeforce). If you'd like to see a demonstration, the video above displays how the build generally should be played. With great power comes with great responsibility!.

EUROPEAN VERSATILE BUILD

This build that is popularized from the LEC, involves a middle ground between the kiting navori build and the hyper aggressive korean build. With this said, the build minimizes any of the other builds weaknesses, but doesn't specialize in either aspect on an offensive lens. This build can be used as an alternative to the build above against a squishy and tank mixed team, but more on the tanky side. Additionally, it has some power to one shot squishy enemies with the energized Stormrazor and Rapid Firecannon and also can be useful for kiting with Navori Quickblades.
This build is better suited for games where you have a Nami or Milio but have a bad matchup that disables you from running First Strike. So that you can the pseudo power of the korean one shot build but also can run Press the Attack and kite enemies in the mid and late parts of the game.
Lord Dominik's Regards is recommended into tankier champions with Bloodthirster to be durable into crowd control. Elixir of Wrath is advised to provide additional damage on the energized auto attack to catch enemies off guard with the high burst.

𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐒

Laning early against Aphelios could feel bad because of his sniper range. Essentially its like laning vs Caitlyn. If youre laning with a Nami, you can take Relentless Pursuit first in this matchup to combo with her E and chunk him to provide you some health pressure to hit some cs. When he has his red and white guns be sure not to Relentless Pursuit him because of the damage and healing he could put out with his turret and red gun. The one advantage you have against aphelios is that he is immobile, and jumping on him with loads of damage often catches him out.

𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐄

Ashe also can be a difficult lane because of her long range auto attacks, exhausting W poke, and slow on her autos. Keep in mind that each time you Relentless Pursuit on Ashe, you must have enough pressure on her to push her away or kill her so you may retreat afterwards. If you dont deal enough damage, she could kite and chase you with autos since they slow and she has higher range. Keep your Relentless Pursuit up for most of the lane she has R available. When you all in Ashe, be sure to get up close so if the ults you, the stun isnt too long.

𝐂𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐘𝐍

Caitlyn is one of lucian's hardest matchups because she has permanent long range, good pushing power, and an agressive evade. If you [relentless pursuit]] on caitlyn she will use e q auto on you and out trade you. In a neutral lane state she can auto you for free using her range. The way to win this lane for experienced Lucian players is to poke her with Piercing Light through creeps and maintain your distance. If you can hit level 2 make sure to all in her and trade health with your Relentless Pursuit basic auttack and Piercing Light combo. Lowering Caitlyn's health disables her from poking you since your combo may become lethal.

𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍

It is not advised to Relentless Pursuit onto Draven unless he uses his stand aside, gets crowd controlled, or drops his axes. Exhuast is a must in this lane and its better to play defensive. Instead of using Relentless Pursuit in, you can use Ardent Blaze, walk up to him with your double shot, bait him in and then double shot Relentless Pursuit backwards and possible double shot Piercing Light if he continues being aggressive to retreat and end the trade. Eventually, when you get The Culling, be sure to only use it at max range when his stand aside is down. You cannot Relentless Pursuit in and expect to out damage draven with an even score.

𝐄𝐙𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋

Ezreal is a fairly easy matchup for Lucian early on. As long as youre standing behind creeps the whole time, he can not hit you with his q. Even when you want to Relentless Pursuit on him, make sure you get in range to damage him but still have a creep in front of you. Additionally, pushing the lane with Piercing Light disables ezreal from ever being able to pressure and poke you because there are so many creeps around. You can hunt ezreal down even if he arcane shifts with your Relentless Pursuit and The Culling after he flashes away. Ezreal can outscale you easily and kite you with his armor builds.

𝐉𝐇𝐈𝐍

Jhin is a fairly simple matchup because he is immobile, and must reload on fourth shot. Each time he takes his fourth shot you should Relentless Pursuit on him and burst him. You can take fights on your own terms with him and have more burst. Be sure to not position near creeps especially when theyre low to avoid his bouncing grenade. He does out range you by a considerable amount so also avoid getting poked down for last hits, but rather play aggressive on him to reduce his poking pressure.

𝐉𝐈𝐍𝐗

Jinx is one of the easiest matchups because she is a scaling champion and has no ability and low damage early. With your strong early game you can jump on her and burst her until she dies in lane. After acquiring Galeforce, Jinx becomes extremely easy to kill. However, you must close out the game and really shut her down to avoid her outscaling and out ranging you, especially if she has an enchantress such as Lulu or Janna.

𝐊𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐀

This is an even matchup but could be won by Lucian with experience. You should always wait for Kaisa to use her icathian rain before jumping on her with Relentless Pursuit. Exhaust is really good into Kaisa because she is also lower range and effective, especially when she ults in on you. Kaisa has slightly less damage then you with an enchanter, but can certainly burst you down with a crowd controlling support such as nautilus or leona. Don't let kaisa scale into late game otherwise she will be more useful than you in teamfights.

𝐊𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀

Kalista is a difficult matchup but it can still be won if you have good timings on your Piercing Light. Do not taking extended trades with kalista, unless she is lethal health because it gives her time to stack her rend. I would avoiding using Relentless Pursuit aggressively unless she dashes to dodge your Piercing Light and chases you down with rend.

𝐊𝐎𝐆'𝐌𝐀𝐖

Kog'maw is an easy matchup very similar to Jinx. Try to avoid using Relentless Pursuit on Kog'maw unless his W is down. If it is down, all in and you should win. If the enemy does not use W, then you can try to trickshot your Piercing Light and weaken him before you aggress onto him even when he has W. If this is the case, do not take an extended trade but rather get your burst out (e auto Piercing Light auto) then retreat.

𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐍𝐄

Miss fortune could be a difficult matchup but to win this matchup Press the Attack is advised with Exhaust. Her E spam could be detrimental for you but you can take trades on your own terms. Miss Fortune only has burst and falls off heavily in damage after. Long trades could be effective against her. Avoid standing in her E for its full duration and avoid standing behind creeps that she could bounce Q's off. Avoid dashing on her until she uses her E because you dont want to get slowed and kited after youve used your only mobile ability.

𝐍𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐇

Nilah is a good matchup for Lucian because for once you have longer range, and have more burst. Do not all in Nilah from full HP and be mindful of her W that allows her to be invulnerable towards basic attacks. Instead, strategically burst her down taking quicker trades, and once low enough, finish her off with The Culling while she tries to activate this ability. Save your Relentless Pursuit for when Nilah tries to ultimate you.

𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐀

Samira is an even matchup. You should look to poke her down with Q, which is slightly easier because she has lower range than traditional marksmans. Do not ever dash onto samira especially when she has her projectile blocking spell. She will beat you if you dash on her and she has everything up. You can walk up with a doubleshot procced from your W, but only dash away once you give her no option other than to take your burst damage or try to trade health by dashing on you.

𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐀

Senna is a difficult matchup especially when played support. She has very long range and sustain and pokes heavily. You want to avoid letting her trickshot her q onto you through creeps. You can try to all in senna if she gets crowdcontrolled or uses q. She does not do well in all in types of trades and you should play aggressive mainly when she uses her main cooldowns, q and e.

𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐑

Sivir is one of the easier matchups, and First Strike should not be played because she ruins it very effortlessly with ricochet. Once her q is down, you can dash on her but dont use your traditional e auto Piercing Light combo. Instead, E auto then use Ardent Blaze to disrupt her spell sheild, then auto Piercing Light to deal your Piercing Light damage. Sivir cannot out damage you in full on trades.

𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑

Smolder is a fairly easy matchup for lucian generally after level three. Early on, be sure to keep your distance because of her fireball. If he uses this, be sure to use that time to take a short trade. You will always be able to 1v1 Smolder in laning phase at full life because he deals lower damage over time and has longer cooldowns early on. Do not underestimate Smolder even if you do slay him in lane; he is the highest scaling champ and recieves much more AoE firepower in the late game.

𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐀

Lucian does fairly good in Tristana because you can outburst Tristana in a quick trade and if she tries rocket jumping on you, then you can Relentless Pursuit away having her commit fully. Exhaust is needed against Tristana because her all in is very strong. Trickshot q's to contest her range and kite her when she tries to all in with your Relentless Pursuit.

𝐓𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐂𝐇

Twitch is fairly easy to lane into, and First Strike is not advised because of his w with long range aoe that cancels it very easily. You may dash onto him to combo him at any point but must be sure to burst him hard. If you get ahead, you can one shot twitch before he kills you if he tries to stealth cheese you. Exhaust is good into twitch so that if he does try his stealth mechanic you may counter him and kill him instead. If he is ahead, be sure to keep your Relentless Pursuit up incase he does stealth on you to evade him.

𝐕𝐀𝐑𝐔𝐒

varus is a good matchup for Lucian because he is immobile and get out his burst as fast as him. If varus is paired with a crowd controlling champion, such as leona or nautilus; Cleanse is preferred because his ultimate is a long range snare. Be sure to keep your distance when youre abilities are down and avoid taking poke with good distancing and dodging.

𝐕𝐀𝐘𝐍𝐄

Vayne is one of the easiest matchups for Lucian along with Jinx, Kog'maw, and others. Vayne and Lucian are opposites in that Lucian is very strong early and gets less effective later and Vayne is very weak early and scales later. You should always outburst vayne early on and are able to beat her in all ins. Do not stand near walls in the lane or terrain, avoid her condem crowd control and all in her when First Strike is up. Exhaust is very important to deal with late game Vayne. Make sure your first dash in is paired with Ardent Blaze, allowing her to tumble in time for your next double auto Piercing Light combo. Only experienced vayne players will hold her tumble to dodge your Piercing Light

𝐗𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐇

Xayah isnt really a problem for Lucian because she is immobile and needs time to ramp up. When you dash in to burst xayah however. you must step and commit to one side before retreating because she could potentially line up her feathers for a snare. Don't ever dash in on Xayah and commit yourself for a kill when her ultimate is up. Instead, fake an all in and bait out her ultimate before going for kills. As long as you dont get snared by Xayah you should win this lane.

𝐙𝐄𝐑𝐈

Zeri is another fairly easy matchup for Lucian because she is weaker early on. You can dash and burst Zeri in lane, but must be careful when she gets her ultimate because she can outrange and tether you easily with her movement speed buff. Be cautious when she is not showing in lane as she can hop over walls and catch you by surprise.

𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑

Alistar is a very straightforward matchup for Lucian. Before level 2, you may poke Alistar up until his pulverize range. After level 2, an experienced Lucian player can react to the first part of his combo (headbutt) and you can Relentless Pursuit to dodge his combo, bait his cooldowns, and have him committed. If Alistar engages on your support, do not focus him because he is tanky, instead just all in the enemy adc since his abilities are on cooldown.

𝐀𝐌𝐔𝐌𝐔

Amumu is a fairly simple matchup since you can use your Relentless Pursuit to kite him, dodge his bandages, and re-engage if his abilities are on cooldown. You want to stay behind creeps and damage him or the enemy adc while using them as shields from bandages. Because Amumu can simply Flash ulty you, Cleanse is advised into this matchup for the mid and late portions of the game. Do not Relentless Pursuit in if he has both charges of his bandage.

𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐀

Anivia is a rare support pick and can be fairly difficult for Lucian. She has very long range, can stun you if you E in, and can guarantee her crowd control with her ult. It is advised to never E in until she uses her stun, poke her down with Piercing Light, and because she has a very low base HP pool, look for all ins to take her out.

𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐄

Ashe is a very difficult matchup for Lucian due to her long range and chilling basic attacks. Manipulate bushes, allow her to push your wave in and cs safely under your turret while using creeps as shields to protect you from her volley of arrows. With Ashe, if you all in, you must commit otherwise she can chase you with her slowing basic attacks.

𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐃

Bard isn't a very difficult matchup in lane but can be difficult to track and farm safely against due to his portals and the mobility he provides for his jungler. In a short trade, combo bard and use your Relentless Pursuit to dodge his Q, bard cannot deal too much damage over time and his initial burst often feels underwhelming. Keep in mind that his q , like Lux's snare stuns the first two targets hit, on a wall, turret etc.

𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐙𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐊

Blitz is a fairly easy matchup for Lucian, you may poke him down with autos and combos as long as you have a creep in front of you. Ideally, you may poke the adc and blitz, if he ever speeds up on you, kite him and try to E his hook, the less distance you dash away while dodging, the more damage you can get on the back end of the fight (since he slows himself). Don't get baited to all in Blitz and remember he has a mana shield that pops when hes close to lethal. First get his shield, then think about the kill afterwards. First Strike is recommended into blitzcrank and any other hook/melee style support.

𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃

Brand can be an annoying matchup, but can still be won as long as you don't get stunned by him. You may e auto Piercing Light him as long as there is a creep infront of you. To avoid getting poked by his flame pillar, you may enter his zone of influence (range for his pillar) and tease him with that range essentially entering and exiting that range. 7/10 below masters the brand will use his pillar and you may easily dodge it while expecting it. Once its down, you may trade while avoiding stuns with creeps.

𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐌

First Strike is recommended into braum matchups. Minions and simple dodging will allow you to dodge his q. Additionally, you must remember that braum can jump to an allied creep to close distance and can tage you with his passive with point auto attacks. Avoid stepping to close to enemy creeps in lane and use your e to kite him if he plays aggressively. If your support locks the enemy adc, be sure to e in a spot that allows you to auto the enemy adc behind braum's shield to avoid your autos being blocked.

𝐅𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐒

Press the Attack is recommended into fiddle since he has high poke. You may walk up and w auto him, but be ready to input buffer your E as he fears you to avoid taking additional damage while feared. If he ever uses his fear you may play aggressive in this lane. Do not focus fiddle if he has a double heal channel on you and your support.

𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐎

Galio can be a fairly difficult matchup, and you must avoid getting taunted by him. Be aware that he can close a large distance with his dash and can poke you early on in lane. Do not ever E into galio as long as his taunt is up. If his taunt is down you may play aggressive but still should be aware of his dash knockup. IF galio successfully cc's your support, you may benefit more by all inning the enemy adc with Exhaust as he gets very tanky after his taunt, especially if he runs aftershock. Later on in the game, be careful to all in and commit yourself because he has an almost global ultimate that covers an area to knockup. Additionally, you may benefit by pinging your teammates if hes level 6 and walking back to lane to avoid fighting for that time.

𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑

Press the Attack is highly recommended into heimerdinger. This is a very difficult matchup for Lucian since he has high poke, good push, and good all in. Do not E onto heimer if he has his stun up. Do not dash in if he has turrets. Only if his stun is down and he has one turret, you may try to trade. If you can manage to all in him once early, try your best to establish a push and play for CS. This is a really adaptive way of reducing your weakness against heimer.

𝐇𝐖𝐄𝐈

Hwei is generally an easier matchup for Lucian because you can use your Relentless Pursuit to dodge his abilities and take favourable trades. Be careful using Relentless pursuit when he has his fear and ultimate available, as he can fear and crowd control you for up to 3-5 seconds. It is advised to focus Hwei in lane if he is vulnerable because he lacks mobility. In the late game, be careful facechecking his fear because it is very impairing and certaindeath.

𝐉𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀

Janna is also a diffcult matchup for Lucian because she can kite you very easily and stop you from aggressing. Don't trade or E in unless janna uses her shield. If you decide to E in while her shield is down, be ready to avoid her tornado while taking the trade. Be careful from wild tornadoes that she charges from far distances. A good rule is to assume she sent it in the spot you were standing when she channels it. The direction of her tornado varies with the how good the Janna player is.

𝐊𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀

Karma is another difficult matchup for Lucian because she can mitagate your damage with her shield and chain you when you go in. Do not leash your jungler hard when playing against karma, because if you come to lane late she can have a guaranteed mantra q combo on you. Enter lane early, poke her down with q, avoid standing behind creeps because her regular q can splash slightly behind creeps also. If she uses her shield or her q, this is your opening to begin trading. It is recommended to maintain your maximum distance from Karma when trading so that if she chains you, you can stand behind creeps to prevent her from having her q combo while you're snared.

𝐋𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐀

Leona is one of the easier matchups for Lucian- First Strike and Cleanse are highly recommended. Do not try to cheese leona because her q is very low cooldown and stuns. Level one in lane you may poke leona freely because she doesnt have a gap close so just maintaing some range against her and poke her. After level two, you can try to dodge her E with movement and chase her down while maintaining distance. An important mechanic against Leona is input bufferring your E with her E. So when she successfully lands her E, you can E to bring her super far back, sometimes even under turret or into a potential gank. Essentially you can choose Leona's destination on her E and bait her into your team or turret. Wait to use Cleanse when she stuns and ignites, or after 6 try to Cleanse her ultimate.

𝐋𝐔𝐋𝐔

Lulu is a difficult matchup for Lucian because she has high range, poke, and polymorph to mitigate your damage during trades. Look to poke her down with your Piercing Light trickshots, only burst enemies in lane with e auto Piercing Light while expecting to quickly run away immediately after during her polymorph. Do not engage while polymorph and her E are up. Experienced Lucian players will take Cleanse into lulu to counter her Exhaust and polymorph to successfully finish of kills on lower health targets.

𝐋𝐔𝐗

Lux is another annoying matchup for Lucian because of her high range poke, damage, and snare. You should not E onto lux unless her snare has been used. To avoid her E, enter and exit her zone of influence (E range) and quickly exit to dodge her poke. You should have several seconds after to actually CS and lane. In the mid-game, be sure to not position in spots that can be reached from fog since her snare is almost guaranteed death. Keep in mind that you may use creeps to block her snare, but there MUST be TWO creeps between you and Lux to successfully shield her snare using creeps.

𝐌𝐀𝐎𝐊𝐀𝐈

Maokai is a fairly straightforward matchup for Lucian. If he starts saplings, be sure to all in the enemy adc level one, since he cannot help (only with autos). As the lane progresses, he is similar to leona in the sense that you may walk up, w auto him and q, and retreat. If he tries to snare you during this poke, make sure to input buffer your e backwards and drag him ALL the way so that his ADC cannot follow up on his cc, and damage him on the back end of the fight as he runs away. In some cases, Cleanse is recommended into Maokai if they have another form of hard CC on their team (Lissandra mid, zoe mid, elise jungle etc).

𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐎

Milio is a fairly difficult matchup for Lucian because it is often paired with a marksman that already outranges Lucian so it is very easy to get poked down/out sustained in lane. Be careful dashing in when Milio has double charge of his shield because it could mitigate all of lucians damage and result in unfavourable trades. Also keep in mind to keep some creeps in front of you and Milio to avoid his Ultra Mega Fire Kick

𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐀

Do not ever take First Strike into Morgana since her W is instant and low CD, so you will never be able to actually use it. Morgana is an easier matchup for Lucian, since you may aggress on your own terms, but you must avoid her Q snare. Many times you can e auto q the enemies in lane as long as your e destinating is still behind a creep so she cant snare you. Another trading strategy in these lanes is just E auto q'ing very fast and INSTANTLY retreating or switching directions aggressively to poke and dodge her q or poke and commit to the kill. After she hits level 6 you can no longer E onto Morgana because she can ult and snare off the ult stun. Morgana's spellshield mitigates the effectiveness of Nami's E and scorcery combo also.

𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐈

This matchup is neutral in the sense that Nami can poke you down, have pressure on you if you E in with bubble, and sustain her adc from your burst. Nami is a good target to focus in lane because she typically has lower HP. I'd recommended w auto e auto Piercing Light and retreating on the side of nami avoiding the ADC and NOT focusing the adc when nami can bubble and damage you. If bubble is down however, you may take more aggressive trades. You want to be forceful in your trades and commit to the next trade if the initial one went well, do not give her time to heal up and sustain the lane.

𝐍𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐔𝐒

Nautilus is an easy matchup for Lucian prior to level six. Before six, you can poke him and even burst him with your combo as long as there are creeps in front of you. Be sure that when you're doing this that the enemy jungler is not around. Nautilus has ways of providing guaranteed CC such as a Flash auto, then hook combo. In teamfights, do not position in Nautilus' ult range if his team is in position to follow up. If the fight ensues, and he uses it on you, dash away for the duration of the knockup as the ultimate is travelling towards you.

𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐎𝐍

Pantheon is also an easy matchup for Lucian because if they are heavy on AD, you can itemize tabis and you may also input buffer your E has he attempts to stun you, disabling him from following up on his own stun. If you do not need to use your E to counter his stun combo, it may serve useful to save it to position behind him while he channels his shield that block directional incoming damage. Be mindful to ping your teammates (mainly mid) to back off if pantheon is coming back from base with his ultimate up. Also be careful yourself as hes returning from base because he can ult you and combo you with his jungler.

𝐏𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐘

Poppy is a fairly annoying matchup for Lucian because she can prevent you from using your dash. In this lane, avoid positioning near walls to avoid her stun and remember she can auto you from a distance if her shield passive is up. Also remember that poppy's usually like Flash stunning you into a wall, so dont feel safe being near one if shes off in a distance. If she tries to stun you and fails and is pursuing you, do not use your E until after the yellow circle dissipates to avoid being knocked up and wasting your E.

𝐏𝐘𝐊𝐄

Pyke is an easier matchup for Lucian but still can be hard if they're good. You must position yourself behind creeps to avoid his q, and hold your e for his q if he walks up. If he e's onto you and channels his hook you must try your best to dodge his q and after that hes committed and easily killed. Experienced pyke players may also use their e and Flash on you for the instant stun, so be ready to Flash their Flash. Pykes' ultimate is also dodgeable with movement, the best way is to walk slightly towards him.

𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐍

Rakan is a fairly easy matchup for Lucian because his knockup is
choreographed and you can react to dodge it simply. Do not E in when his CC is up, instead walk up and auto him and if tries to CC you, E away. If your support locks up the enemy ADC, do NOT E in to follow up; walk up and auto- once rakan tries to knock you up E forwards to dodge it and commit to the ADC. At later points of the game, Rakan has an instant charm with high gap close, so be sure to stand further back if his Flash + ult combo is available.

𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐀 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐂

Renata is a fairly simple matchup for Lucian. Play around her pokes zone of influence (unpredictably entering/exiting the range of her poke) to dodge it, then you may E onto her with a creep in front of you. If Renata hooks your support, make sure to to stand clear of your ally because she can pull them on you to stun you also. Remember that in mid game fights, Renata has strong disengage and her ult is very effective in teamfights (especially if you have crit striking champs)so do not E in to follow one target if Renata is in that zone.

𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐀

Senna is a difficult matchup for Lucian because of her long range poke, sustain, and snare. The best way to deal with Senna in lane is to land your Piercing Light trickshots and dodge hers. Do not walk up and trade her when her Q is available because it heals and shields her. When it is down however, you may E auto Piercing Light her for a quick trade. You must also keep a creep in front of you when you do trade, to avoid her snare and follow up damage. If her snare kills a creep it will snare you. Her untargetable and MS buff spell is also very buggy and doesn't truly show how many or locations of champions while they're in the mist. If you avoid poke and trade her this way the lane is playable. Senna is also a large threat in the late game as support. You should almost think of her has a high priority target in the fight such as an ADC.

𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐄

Seraphine is a simpler matchups, but not when paired with another long range poking sustain champ. Stand clear of the creep wave because she has plenty of AoE damage. Only E onto her when her snare or shield is down and try to poke her down with Piercing Light trickshots. Seraphine scales super well into the late game. When teamfighting, be sure to avoid standing behind teammates recently hit by her ultimate because it extends and may charm you too.

𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐍

Shen is a rare support and is fairly easy to play into. You may walk up to him and auto him with q, and react to his taunt with your E. Be sure to deal follow up damage when he retreats as you dodge his taunt. When Shen creates a zone in the lane, you will miss your autos so try to resposition during this time. Be careful when diving targets if Shen's ultimate is available, this could create unexpected large scale throws.

𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀

Sona is a harder matchup for Lucian but is playable earlier on. The only time you should try to trade with Sona is when her healing and shielding chord is down. Try your best to take little poke from Sona in lane- getting hit by the W missile is fine, but do not take blue autos from her. After level six, Sona's ultimate is very strong so consider saving your E for when she uses this to win the ultimate fights in bot lane. Commit to the poke and burst you have done in lane if you have any successful trades, otherwise she will eventually heal herself.

𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐀

Soraka is another difficult matchup for Lucian because of her long range poke, sustain, and silence. You MUST play around her zone of influence, standing clear of her Q poke. If she lands these, it is extremely hard to win this lane. I like to engage her when her Q is down, expecting a silence but walking past it and pursuing the trade. First Strike is not advised into soraka because of her long range, instant silence damage. Very hard to actually use this rune against her. If your team is not building healcut, you may want to build this item (at least the first part) Do not get baited for targets when Soraka ult is available.

𝐒𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐍

Swain could be a difficult matchup for Lucian, but is still a winnable lane. Save your E for when he uses his snare. If you manage to dodge it, you can go aggressive on him. Killing swain early (prior to 6) is strongly advised because he can get very tanky with with his ultimate. When he does have his ult up, be careful dashing onto him. You really want to bait out his ultimate before committing to an all in fight. Ulting swain from a distance is very effective as he might feel pressured and use his ult, or you may all in him after if you deal enough damage with R to be able to finish him with auto e auto q.

𝐓𝐀𝐇𝐌 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐇

Tahm Kench is a fairly easy matchup for Lucian. Stand behind creeps in lane to avoid his tongue poke. Save your E for his channeled knockup to avoid him and kite him. You can walk up and poke Tahm Kench while behind creeps and holding E to reposition from his CC. Later on in teamfights, be careful committing yourself to high priority targets because he can render them untargetable and can spit them back on you while being shielded. Tahm kench is easily kited if he misses his q, and serves the purpose to save one target in teamfights.

𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐂

Taric is a difficult matchup for Lucian because he can easily prevent your all in. Dont E onto him because he can easily lock you up and give his ADC armor and passive healing. When taking trades while his stun is down, avoiding him from continuously auto attacking prevents him from spamming his heal to his ADC and himself. In mid game teamfights, his ultimate MUST be baited out first before taking a hard engage. When his ultimate is svailable, you must remember to not get baited into it because they go invulnerable for a few seconds. Remember that his stun is channelled from himself and his chained ally. If the ally chained has a dash or blink, they can blink on you with the stun so be careful if this is the case, and dont get caught offguard.

𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐇

Thresh is skill matchup for Lucian and is easily winnable. You dont want to dash on if his hook and flay are up. You can walk up and trade him just at the correct distance to not be in range of his flay. If he commits to you, you can use your E to dodge his hook. Standing behind creeps disables his hook and if he catches your support offguard, it is way more effective to all in his ADC with Exhaust and hard combos. Thresh is very strong at setting up ganks. If he uses lantern behind him, he is likely to bring his jungler and is seconds away from flashing on you with his flay to set that deadly combo up. Tracking jungler is very important into this support because of the setup he can provide. If your jungler is ganking for you, be sure to focus thresh in the lane because he can easily lantern his ADC out. Additionally in the midgame, wards can be placed on the lantern to prevent the at risk target from grabbing it. Threshs' Q hooks in an L-shaped way at the tip- this enables it to around one creep at certain angles, so dont get caught offguard thinking your safe behind a creep at these angles.

𝐕𝐄𝐋'𝐊𝐎𝐙

Vel'koz can be an annoying champ but he is fairly easy for Lucian. As long as you dont get poked by his q, and wait for him to use his knockup, you can E on him and burst him as he is a low HP target. Remember that Vel'koz can shoot his q at odd angles to extend its range, so using creeps to block his q is advised. Additionally, you may E onto him if his q is down but make sure you are very quick to evade his knockup immediately after. Be careful if you are even half HP, if he hits his q he can combo it with R and the range is fairly long. Good Vel'koz players usually run barrier because it is effective on him, so dont get baited if he is somewhat low and expect to kill him. Barrier's CD is lower relative to Flash and other SS.

𝐗𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐇

Xerath is a difficult matchup for Lucian, mainly due to his long range poke, instant stun, that enables him to poke you out and abuse Lucian's short range and disable you from engaging with his stun. The ideal way to navigate this lane is to enter/exit his zone of influence (w mainly) and bait him to use it. Once he uses it, his q should be able to be dodged with movement. If these two are down you may try to E on him and try to avoid his stun. If his stun is ever down, you should instantly try to all in him. You can find angles to E on him and combo him if you can be in range to combo him while a creep is in front of you. Xerath is a good target to focus because he is relatively lower HP. First Strike is not advised in this lane because of the amount of poke you may be taking.

𝐘𝐔𝐔𝐌𝐈

Yuumi is a fairly easy matchup for Lucian because it allows you to always take fights on your own terms. It strongly advised to E forward when her shield is down, and it is important to avoid her q poke by standing behind creeps and juking last second. Be careful tunneling on yuumi in lane because she can easily hop on the ADC and be untargetable. If she gets CC'ed somehow, then focusing her and one shotting her is advised because any CC disables her from hopping on her ADC. Because the lane is essentially 2V1, you want to zone the enemy ADC off auto attacking much, because yuumi passive heals plenty per auto.

𝐙𝐀𝐂

Zac is a simpler matchup for Lucian. It is obvious to hold your E for his long range CC jump. The unexpected play that good Zac supports use is when he uses his grab, crashes you with another minion and combos it with his jump. Avoid this combo by standing behind creeps, which enables you to auto him, if he tries to jump on you, E away and look to sidestep his grab and damage him on the back end of the fight as he retreats. In the midgame, be mindful of his long range engage and play safer with your E to prevent his engage. If Zac ever locks up your support, he is very tanky so it may serve more useful to focus down the enemy ADC with Exhaust.

𝐙𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍

Zilean is a very easy matchup for Lucian prior to level six. Ideally, you want to play around his bombs zone of influence, get them on CD and all in him when he uses at least one. Do not E on zilean when he has two bombs up because he can slow you and guarantee to hit them. Without his stun, he is very underwhelming and trading him is very easy and effective. If he tries to bomb you and you're within range, you may use your E to aggressively juke his bomb and commit to the hard burst trade on him. When his ultimate is up, do not commit all resources to one target because he will revive them. Damaging both opponents in lane equally is effective after level six because he can only ultimate one target at once, so this may be worth noting.

𝐙𝐘𝐑𝐀

Zyra is an annoying matchup for Lucian because of her poke, DOT damage, and prevents you from engaging with her root. Do not E onto zyra if she has her root available or if she has more than one plant near her. Try your best to avoid her poke, taking autos from her plants is fine, but getting damaged by her abilities is not. Press the Attack is strongly advised into zyra lanes because First Strike is almost impossible to actually use. Try to trickshot her with q, and look for engaging angles on her when her snare is on CD and she doesn't have many plants around her.

𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑

Alistar does have a good synergy with Lucian because he can provide frontline and CC for Lucian to deal his damage. Level one do not attempt to trade the enemy since Alistar is extremely weak. Try to rush for level two and then play off Alistars pulverize combo. When Alistar goes in be sure to follow up on his CC and also provide him ranged pressure on the back end of the fight as he is retreating himself. Do not hard push your lane and keep it under the enemies' turret since Alistar cannot engage while under turret in early points of the game.

𝐀𝐌𝐔𝐌𝐔

Amumu with Lucian is effectively a kill lane that is very aggressive early on. He can provide CC for Lucian to deal the damage. If Amumu ever bandages an enemy be sure to follow up with damage on the CC'ed target. In teamfights mid-game, keep your eye on amumu because he is a strong source of CC and you may combo your damage with his lockdown on high priority targets. Provide Amumu with ranged pressure if he is taking damage on the latter end of his engage.

𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐀

Anivia suprisingly has a good synergy with Lucian becaushe she can catch people out with a stun and set you up. If Anivia gets hooked or caught out in lane, do not hesitate to fight back and commit- she has a passive that gives her another HP bar essentially, so be mindful that she has two lives and that she is "tankier" than she sheems with her insane mana pool. In teamfights, you want to play a kiting style with Anivia and allow the enemies to commit to the fight inside of her zone with R.

𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐄

Ashe isn't the best support with Lucian but still can provide enough poke to create all in angles for you. Remember that Ashes' autos slow and set you up to go in with E. Ashe is the strongest when ur ultimate is available, be ready to follow up on a long range ultimate from Ashe if she is supporting you. Mid-game Ashe can become a liability if her ultimates are mediocre.

𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐃

Bard has low synergy with Lucian. He cant try to set you up with his Q stun and auto, but that is rare to land in lane. One thing to note is that you can youse Bards' heals that he plants to gain a passive stack and MS buff to engage on enemies for high damaging combos. Try to bait for Bard when enemies aggress on you and he can portal the jungler and himself for a good gank.

𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐙𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐊

Blitzcrank has good synergy with Lucian because it is a very strong kill lsne. Blitz can you set you up with enough time to effectively one shot the target he hooks. Always be ready to combo an enemy out, especially when Blitz is looking for an angle. Importantly, when Blitz commits himself you must provide him with ranged damage so he doesnt take too much damage retreting himself. In the midgame, try tp setup pink wards and manipulate pockets of vision for Blitzcrank to thrive in his high pick potential.

𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃

Brand doesnt have the best synergy with Lucian but can provide some poke in lane and has a stun that is difficult to land. If he lands his stun however, you must all in the enemy that he stuns, or if he gets locked down, Exhaust and focus down the enemy ADC. If Brand ever uses ultimate, be sure to play aggressive during that time because it bounces to multiple targets after each hit.

𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐌

Braum has very good synergy with Lucian because of his passive. If Braum auto attacks or lands his q a stack is applied to that enemy and if 4 stacks are achieved that enemy gets stunnned and additional damage is granted on the stun. The synergy is that Lucian can easily follow up on targets that are tagged by this passive and apply 2 stacks per auto (if its a doubleshot). Lucian can proc braums passive possibly the fastest out of any other ADC. With Braum, an important mechanic is that Lucian may E forward to close some distance on enemies in lane, and Braum may jump on him and shield/use q to setup a stun while shielding Lucian from return damage.

𝐅𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐒

Fiddlesticks does not have the best synergy with Lucian but can still provide poke and CC. When fiddle fears an enemy be sure to follow up on this. In lane, using fiddlesticks as a shield is a good idea because he can drain and heal from enemies, giving him good tanking value. At level six, you may try to setup pockets of vision in tri-bush or the lane bushes with pinks to setup surprise attacks with his ultimate, which can fear and damage multiple enemies at once.

𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐎

Galio can set you up for easy kills if he hits his knockup and taunt afterwards. You can also play extra aggressive if you know Galio ultimate is available. Additionally, if you get hooked or locked downm you can still all in the enemy ADC with Exhaust, and Galio should have enough CC and damage to still win the fights.

𝐇𝐖𝐄𝐈

Hwei has limited synergy with Lucian because he cannot activate your vigilance very easily but can however crowd control enemies that you can follow up on with your combos. If Hwei ever hits his ultimate, be sure to try to get that target to the threshhold hp to be taken down. You can use Hwei to cheese from tribushes and inner lane bushes aswell. In lane, allow Hwei to deal his long-range poke damage over time before taking more aggressive trades. If he gets crowd controlled be sure to focus the enemy marksman with Exhaust to protect Hwei.

𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑

Heimerdinger doesn't have the strongest synergy with Lucian since he cannot provide him with stacks. However, he can set you up for free kills and provides you with pressure so that you may E forwards and not get beaten on the back end of the fight. Heimerdinger is a lane bully that can easily provide your lane with push and ultimately priority on objectives and early skirmishes in the botside jungle.

𝐉𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀

Janna can actually have a good snergy with Lucian because you can engage with your E while she shields you to mitigate incoming damage, and she can also provide you with a way out with her tornado. Additionally, a good Janna will channel her tornado and catch the enemies offguard. When the tornado is fully charged it knocks enemies up considerably high, so you can combo enemies that are hit by this. You should play to kite in teamfights, Janna excels in disengaging and slowing enemies down so Lucian can benefit from this style of play.

𝐊𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀

Karma can synergize with Lucian because she provides poke and setup for Lucian to get kills. If karma ever shields you and speeds you up, it is ideal to aggress onto the enemy because she gives a passive stack. Do not commit too early on in the laning phase, give karma time to poke the enemies down to create angles for kills. You do not want to leash the jungler if karma is your support because her cheesing potential at level one is unmatched, and she can always get one free mantra + q on the enemy as they are entering lane.

𝐋𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐀

Leona has very good synergy with Lucian because she can lock down and deal considerable amounts of damage to a single target. Lucian can easily follow up on this damage from afar. If you get caught, it is still advise to fight the enemy ADC with Exhaust as Leona can turn the tides of a losing fight with a single stun. Try to refrain from pushing the lane in too often as it gives Leona a more difficult time engaging under turret early on. Leona is a great champion for diving under turret if the enemy support ever roams or if the enemy botlane is low HP under turret.

𝐋𝐔𝐋𝐔

Lulu has a good synergy with Lucian because she can apply your passive very simply two times: once with her shield and once with her movement speed buff. Lulu can enable you to engage and ideally you want to aggress with her E on you to mitigate incoming damage. A good combo would be to dash in close to enemies to benefit from her ultimate knockup on enemies nearby. In the mid game, look to skirmish or catch enemies offguard with lulus' buffs. If Lulu ever gets locked down in lane, be sure to all in the enemy ADC.

𝐋𝐔𝐗

Lux doesn't have a strong synergy with Lucian, but can set you up with her snare and passively poke in lane. Cheesing in lane bushes is effective with Lux, together with her snare and your max damage combo, you may easily one shot a target at 70% early on. Setting up pockets of vision with Lux in the mid game with pink wards also may be very rewarding due to her strong pick potential and high burst damage. If Lux, does get engaged on in lane. be sure to all in the enemy ADC while they are on Lux.

𝐌𝐀𝐎𝐊𝐀𝐈

Maokai hes decent synergy with Lucian because he has very strong all in with his snare and knockback. If he ever does engage an on enemy, all in that enemy. One important thing to note with Maokai though, hold your Piercing Light for when he knocks enemies back because he could cause you to miss your Piercing Light when he knocks enemies in an odd direction. Additionally, in teamfights you want to hold your ultimate for when Maokai ultimates the enemy and chain yours on a priotity target that is snared. When turret diving early, allow for Maokai to tank the turret because he can use his snare to go untargetable and drop turret aggro.

MILIO

Milio has the best synergy with Lucian because he can activate your vigilance very easily, solve your range problems, and allows you to take aggressive trades with a double shield charge. In some cases where the enemy botlane lacks range such as Samira Nautilus or Jhin Leona then First Strike is advised. The runes associated with the corresponding build involves additional burn damage on ability hits + milio burn. Check out my video on energized Lucian for an example on youtube.

𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐀

Morgana has relatively low synergy with Lucian, especially if she cant land snares. The only way to use your passive with her is with her spellshield. If you are playing against CC such as thresh or Leona, do not hesitate to trade and commit to fights because enemies cannot lock you down for the duration of this time. If they lockdown morgana, you may all in the enemy ADC. In mid game fights, look to manipulate pockets of vision with pinkwards to setup for Morgana's high pick potential with her long range high duration snare.

𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐈

Nami has one of the strongest synergies with Lucian, similarly to [milio]. The reason Nami is very strong with Lucian is because she can instantly give you two passive stacks, enhance the damage of your autos with her E, speed you up, while slowing the enemy down. Additionally, after going in and bursting enemies in lane, she can sustain any damage that you take. First Strike is highly recommended with Nami because it makes your e auto Piercing Light do that much more damage early on. In the mid-game, you can look for ultimate angles on squishy targets that are waiting for mid waves to push in. With First Strike, Nami's e slow and damage, Galeforce, and The Collector- this combo can easily one shot 1-2 enemies at once.

𝐍𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐔𝐒

Nautilus is another good synergy with Lucian because of his extremely high pick potential, all in, lockdown, and peel that he can provide. If you dont have to leash, you can cheese from the 3rd lane bush or the bush entering lane. Be sure to start W to maximize damage as he can proc your passive he deals damage to marked targets. In lane, always all in enemies that he CC's and provide him with ranged pressure as he retreats himself. If the enemy support ever roams, you and Nautilus are capable of diving an enemy from 70%, so be sure to poke them down with ultimate prior to diving them.

𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐎𝐍

Pantheon can have a synergy with Lucian because he creates a very strong kill lane with his stun. If he ever does stun a target, trust that you two can 1 shot them at level two. Do not engage first with Pantheon, because he has an ability that shields damage from one direction and serves as an effective tank. You may also bait enemies into fighting you if Pantheon has his ultimate available and can engage them from afar. Pantheon does not offer much in later stages of the game, and should be taken advantage of early on because of his high damage and skirmishing power that he retains despite lacking gold in the support role.

𝐏𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐘

Poppy has lower synergy with Lucian, but still can provide solid engages and lockdown enemies, dealing good damage even early on. If Poppy ever lands her stun on an enemy, be sure to follow up with your combos. Remember that champions with dashes cannot escape Poppy when she has her yellow circle on her. Pushing the lane and zoning enemies near/into terrain is optimal for Poppy because she can easily setup dives and stun under tower, especially if the allied jungler is around.

𝐏𝐘𝐊𝐄

Pyke does have a good synergy with Lucian because he can operate like a tank with his passive healing. He creates a very strong kill lane, especially if he hits his q pull that slows into a stun. Be sure to maximize your combo and damage output while he gets a successful hook combo. Sometimes when angles are more difficult, pyke may E in and Flash behind enemies to engage and hook afterwards. Remember to be alert if he tries this. After level six, pyke can execute enemies with his R and generate double gold for you and him. In the midgame, Pyke benefits from making picks using his stealth, and can benefit from manipulating pockets of vision with pinkwards to pick enemies off in the midgame.

𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐍

Rakan surprisingly has a very strong synergy with Lucian, because he can dash to Lucian two times and provide him with two passive stacks instantly. He provides good engage for Lucian with his knockup. An important combo with these two is similar with Braum. Lucian can dash into close a gap between an enemy in lane, Rakan jumps on you and then knocks up the enemy, and dashes back towards you to grant your second passive stack. In the midgame, watch for Rakans ultimate ability followed by instant Flash and W's to engage on several enemies at once. You should do your best to follow up on these instant engages on priority targets.

𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐀 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐂

Renata Glasc can have a good synergy with Lucian because she can engage with her hook and speed you up for your passive stack. With Renata, commiting to all in fights early can be effective because Lucian has relatively good early damage and even if you die you get a second decaying HP bar to use to kill an enemy, and if you kill that enemy you live with her bailout. In mid game fights, Renata functions as a strong disengaging champion. So try to avoid engaging and if you do, be quick to retreat towards Renata and bait enemies close by into her ultimate which is a very strong AoE crowd controlling ability.

𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐀

Senna although she is Lucian's wife has little to no synergy with Lucian. However, she can provide damage and CC on one target. A good Senna can provide you with passive stacks if she q's through you and damages enemies. Press the Attack is advised when playing with a Senna because she lacks in providing you with passive stacks. Senna operates as a long range marksman in the late game so try to protect her yourself when enemies try to one shot her. Everyone thought she got adbucted by Thresh, but Lucian and Senna were not on good terms prior to this and she became furda and resisted being saved.

𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐄

Seraphine doesn't have the best synergy with Lucian but she can provide him with passive stacks, provide snares, and passive healing in lane. Seraphine really becomes a threat when she has her ultimately, which you want to commit to and go for kills. In the mid-game, try to create picks with Seraphines snares and play for her ultimate in teamfights.

𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐍

Shen does not have the best synergy with Lucian. He has great all in potential with his dash taunt so be ready to follow up if he lands this. Be mindful that you can trade a little bit longer with enemies if you have Shen because he can retreat his sword and cause enemy auto attacks to miss for a few seconds. If Shen has ultimate available be mindful that you can go for aggressive 2v1's knowing Shen can shield you and taunt a target when he appears.

𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀

Sona has a very strong synergy with Lucian because all of her abilities grant Lucian passive stacks. When she gives you the blue chord specifically is when you want to engage because your auto deals additional damage. Sona's all in isnt too good, it is ideal to quickly burst enemies and retreat, using Sonas' passive healing to sustain through the lane. When her ultimate is available, that is when her all in becomes very strong. In teamfigfhts, the same style is advised. Go for poke/burst and slowly wittle down enemies and use Sona's chords to heal. In the late game, Sona is very effective because she can provide the entire team with extra damage, movement speed, and shields/heals with low cooldowns. Sona excels in teamfights that drag on longer than usual.

𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐀

Soraka does not have the best synergy with Lucian because she can only provide one stack of his passive in the lane (two with her ultimate). A good Soraka will provide you with poke using her q and long range autos in lane. She does provide a tonne of healing also, which enables you to aggress onto enemies repeatedly, and even if you get out traded you can still heal with Soraka. In the midgame- soraka benefits off slow fights and needs time to heal up her allies in fights.

𝐒𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐍

Swain doesn't have the best synergy with Lucian because he is unable to provide any stacks. He operates in a duo with Lucian as a kill lane that is reliant on him hitting his snare followed by his other abilities. Be sure to follow up on his snare, and be ready to provide him with pressure if he gets locked down, as he is very squishy early on. In later parts of the lane when his ultimate is available, Swain effectively can be a tank with his extra HP and spellvamp that he has in his R. Be sure to follow up with Swain if he is aggressing on the enemies.

𝐓𝐀𝐇𝐌 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐇

Tahm Kench also doesn't have a great synergy with Lucian because he cannot provide passive stacks or reliable CC. Tahm kench serves as a tank in the game and can save you from certain death with his ultimate. You can cast your ultimate and continue shooting while in Tahm Kenchs' stomach. Additionally, he can provide some poke and has a long range knockup so keep an eye on if he lands this as kills can be had if the Tahm is good.

𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐂

Taric has one of the best synergies with Lucian because he can spam heals to provide Lucian with plenty of passive stacks. Additionally, Taric can channel stun from both his and Lucian's position. So you may have taric channel his stun and you can E onto enemies to reposition and land the stun on the enemies yourself to combo them after. In teamfights, be mindful that Tarics ultimate renders your team invlulnerable for a short duration, so dont be quick to kite back. Instead, be mindful of his ultimate and be ready to kill priority targets during this invincible time frame.

Thresh and Lucian do have a good synergy together. Thresh can provide CC and all in potential for easy kills. Keep a lookout for his hook, it should be obvious to all in the enemy he death sentences. Additionally, Thresh can flay an enemy first and that could also be your cue to all in the enemy. Sometimes, Thresh may play passively if he suspects a potential jungle gank incoming. Feel free to position aggressively and take his lantern if you are under any threat to safety. Another synergy is that he can throw his lantern near an enemy, you can dash on the lantern gaining the shield and passive stack, burst an enemy and take the lantern back to safety. In the midgame, you want to manipulate vision with pinks and use thresh to pick off and CC enemies.

𝐕𝐄𝐋'𝐊𝐎𝐙

Lucian does not synergize well with Vel'Koz, because passive stacks are hard to achive. Vel'koz can poke out enemies in lane, and if he ever does land his slow he may combo it with his knockup. If he lands this you must go in. In the midgame- velkoz functions as a long range APC and protecting him may serve useful as he does output alot of damage despite the lack of gold.

𝐗𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐇

Similar to Velkoz, xerath provides poke and slows. If he lands his w, which is the slow, you can try to use that slow to land your Piercing Light trickshots on enemies. If he ever hits his stun, you should look for all in angles. Additionally, you can use your ultimate to get enemies to 30% for Xerath to finish them off with his long range ultimate. In the mid game, especially when contesting objectives, it is ideal to let Xerath poke out enemies before committing to a full on fight.

𝐘𝐔𝐔𝐌𝐈

Yuumi has a very strong synergy with Lucian because lucian is one of the only adc's that can effectively 2v1 to an extent, is mobile, and can access targets easily. She can provide passive stacks very easily, and can sustain you effortlessly as well. In lane, you want to play relatively safe, but if you can find an angle to burst an enemy quickly while kiting the other in lane (dashing in a spot that you can burst one enemy and have the other out of range), this lane can snowball very hard. You want to combo her Piercing Light slow with your combo while being shielded from her E.

𝐙𝐀𝐂

Zac can function with Lucian as a kill lane because he can engage from very far and his plenty of CC. A good Zac, while start by grabbing an enemy and smashing him into another followed by his knockups. Be sure to keep an eye out for this combo and try to damage the target effected. Dont be afraid to use Zac as a tank in the duo lane because his passive essentially grants him another stasis life, which you can use to continue trading end defending him to eventually respawn.

𝐙𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍

Zilean does not synergize with Lucian because he is very weak early, has difficulty giving you passive stacks, and his low damage out put throughout the game. At level three, he can provide you with setup if he hits a double bomb stun on a target. After level six, you can play a little more aggressive and should not fear dying because he can revive you with his ultimate upon taking lethal damage.

𝐙𝐘𝐑𝐀

Zyra also doesn't have a good synergy with Lucian because she cant give you stacks. However, she can provide substantial poke in lane, and set up kills with her snare. In the midgame, Zyra can benefit off manipulating pockets of vision and catching enemies offguard with her snares and ultimate. In teamfights, it is better to allow enemies to engage onto you and have Zyra disengage them with her ultimate which provides an AoE knockup and DOT damage.

• The early game for Lucian is where he excels the most. He is the optimal marksman to have on your team for early game skirmishes (as early as level 3), dragon contestions, and early invades/counter invades.

• Because Lucian is one of the highest single-target damaging marksmans in the game, you should feel fairly confident in taking early trades with enemies. As long as you are using your combos correctly, and animation cancelling the negligible portions of your auto attacks with abilties, you should always be winning these HP trades. It is important to note that Lucian is a caster style marskman so you want to be going in and using your burst and quickly retreating and waiting for your cooldowns once again, especially since you're unable to immediately refresh the cooldown on your Relentless Pursuit.

• Additionally, one of the biggest problems most Lucian players make is using Relentless Pursuit at dangerous times when enemies cooldowns are ready to crowd control you, and you may be easily kited after with the enemies' superior range without an alternative means of getting out. Many times it is adaptive to walk up and deal your damage using Ardent Blaze and Piercing Light to eventually use Relentless Pursuit to retreat from the enemy trying to trade some health back.
• In the laning phase, Lucian is often outranged early on and must avoid being within that range. If you do end up trading, make sure to commit to the auto attack trade and quickly retreat once you've gotten your trade off (typicaly auto q auto). Trickshotting your Piercing Light also helps substantially if you can land them (using your q on a creep that lines into an enemy. Refer to the combos on how to trade enemies at levels 1,2,3 and 6. ALWAYS go for a Relentless Pursuit + Piercing Light combo on the level two powerspike if you are in range.

Lucian is a very strong pick in the mid game- especially when you have snowballed in the early game. The playstyle that suits Lucian the best is to get mid lane priority (push in the wave) then roam to complete objectives/missions on the map which include: getting aggressive vision, invading enemy jungle, grublings/herald, dragon, and others. Do not be afraid to skirmish enemies in even numbers; but be careful if it is a full 5v5 teamfight. Additionally, you may setup small pockets of vision on the map and catch enemies offguard.

• One of the main ways to do this is to push mid, wait for a squishy enemy to walk up and catch the wave- then move in with Relentless Pursuit and The Culling to either one shot the enemy, get their flash, or chunk them out. Doing this shortly before a major objective such as dragon and baron can secure these objectives easily if the target you pick is a high impact target (ADC, APC, JUNGLE. The best combo to use when cheesing someone or attempting to one shot an enemy spotted on vision is Ardent Blaze auto Relentless Pursuit auto Piercing Light auto The Culling

• Making rotations with Lucian are extremely vital to effectively utilize his mid game strengths- especially when snowballing early. In being strong and situated mid lane, Lucian is easily able to get priority on mid lane (pushing the wave first and locking the enemy under their turet to last hit incoming creeps). Upon pushing your wave, analyze the map to see if an enemy is over extended on the map, if your jungler could potentially take an aggressive invade, or just simply pushing up your visiona around an objective that is being contested in the near future. Lucian is extremely good in these 3v3 or 4v4 skirmishes as he can burst targets down one after another, catch targets offguard and using combos off allies' crowd control.

• Be sure to buy pink wards in the mid game after each back, so that you can provide yourself with angles to catch enemies off guards and effectively assassinate them with vision. Using your The Culling on enemies even if you're on vision to get them low is also a very big impact when objectives are immediately coming up.

• It is apparent that Lucian is his strongest in the early and mid game (especially when hes gotten kills and a surplus og gold}. This is why it is very important to push your advanatage in this stage of the game to avoid the late game. Even if you are behind you should try to find these angles because Lucian is often outscaled later on and can only contribute so much in teamfighting and longer ranged fights.

Lucian in the late game is considerably difficult to navigate. The main reason is that you are often out ranged by other marksmen and deal burst damage as opposed to consistent damage. This leads to lost front-to-back teamfights because you lack hyper carry style damage. Additionally, Lucian especially finds it difficult to deal with tanks with plenty of armor.

• To reduce your scaling weakness, try your best to avoid fights by making picks through manipulating pockets of vision. If you do snowball in the early and mid game, try your best to close out the game as soon as possible. Lucian likes games that are ARAM style or fiestas, and skirmishes in the late game as opposed to full on 5v5 teamfighting. If you do end up having to teamfight, follow the instructions below and the showcased teamfighting scenarios.

EXAMPLE 1

EXAMPLE 2
Attention! ** AUDIO EXPLANATION AVAILABLE IN VIDEO **
• Teamfighting with Lucian can be extremely difficult because you are very low ranged against other hyper carry style marksmen, and usually within crowd controlling range when you do Relentless Pursuit inwards. This is why it is best to avoid and prevent teamfights from happening by pursuing picks and smaller skirmishes around pockets of vision. Additionally,an added barrier is that Lucian only has high single target damage; so taking a teamfight front to back (where carries are racing to kill tanks) you will usually lose unless you are very ahead in the match.

Lucian luckily does have The Culling to match high ranged targets for a very small window; it is extremely important to make excellent use of this to damage/poke out one carry throughout the duration of the teamfight. A rule of thumb for teamfighting is: attack the closest target that is the safest to attack, if a priority target becomes vulnerable (carry flashing in, adc gets hooked) then switch targets on the priority target until you must kite the tanks out again. Sometimes with Lucian diving the backline with your crowd controllers is the only way to win teamfights. Other times, when your tanks are capable of living through the damage, you can kite out their tanks with Navori Quickblades and continue the fight that way. Be careful using Relentless Pursuit inward to follow up on a kill because if you get crowd controlled yourself, your often done for. Instead, use The Culling to follow up on kill while enemies are obviously in the fog of war.

BUGGED LUCIAN MOVEMENT - BASE SKIN

BUGGED LUCIAN MOVEMENT - HIGH NOON SKIN

In the end, Lucian is often avoided by players because of his short range and caster playstyle. He is not always the best pick and gets outscaled fairly easy. He is not beginner friendly and requires plenty of practise to reap some league points.

For experienced marksman players, Lucian good be a great niche pick or "one trick" champion because his counters don't completely destroy him too much, he is blind pickable, can be flexed mid (and top), and ultimately is really fun/flashy to play.

If you've made it this far in the guide, thank you for reading- I've had plenty of fun and zero regret spamming this champion for the past several years.
