Introduction

Hello everyone, and welcome to my Shaco guide. My name is Paranoiac and I will teach you how to play The Demon Jester.

Shaco was one of the first champions I ever played and I immediately fell in love with him. When I first started to play this champion, I was looking online for guides on how to play him and I finally ended up on MobaFire.
I have been playing League of Legends since late Season 1 and more than half of my games are with Shaco. My goal is to teach you how to play this champion.

Let's get started!

Why Tank Shaco?

With the recent changes to Shaco in the Pre-Season, AD Assassin Shaco has been nerfed to the ground and he can no longer one-shot squishes. Tank Shaco is viable in this new tank meta. You'll have plenty of sustain in the jungle and with your clone(R) you're going to give your enemy a bad time, while dealing some decent sustain damage. AP Assassin Shaco on the other hand is still really good, and he can one-shot squishes easily. I will make sure to add a build to this guide as soon as possible.

Abilities

Backstab - This ability causes Shaco's auto attacks to deal 120-145% extra damage when attacking someone from behind, very 3 seconds. It can be used to kill creeps faster including jungle creeps like the Ancient Golem with the help of Jack In The Box. Backstab can give you the advantage in a fight or simply while chasing people who are trying to escape by destroying their Health Bar, faster than they expect. When you are jungling, always try to hit the creeps on their back by moving in-between attacks.

Deceive - Shaco insantly jumps to a location near him and becomes invisible for a brief period which also causes his next basic attack to deal bonus damage to his target. The bonus damage can be dealth even after a short time of leaving stealth. This ability is just great. You can use it to gank a lane, escape while in trouble by going through a wall or just by getting away from the enemy or by using it in a fight in order to deal some extra damage to a target. While trying to escape from the enemy team remember that this ability can actually get you through thick walls. With the recent changes to Shaco, this ability doesn't deal as much damage, so use it for it's utility in order to get in a fight without being noticed, or to trick the enemies and get away.

Jack In The Box - Shaco places a box on the ground that turns invisible after 2 seconds and it stays for 60 seconds. If an enemy walks near it, it will leave stealth, fear everyone close to it and then start attacking the target that is closest to the box. Jack In The Box has many uses. You can use it when ganking a lane, by placing it behind the enemy. The box will fear that player causing him to walk away from Shaco for a short time, giving you and your teammate some free damage on him. When jungling you can use this box in order to force the creeps to focus it and kill them without taking any damage PLUS by taking advantage of your Backstab and attacking them while they are focusing the box. If you are trying to escape from a gank or from a bad fight, try going in a bush and placing Jack In The Box to slow the enemies down. It's also a great idea to use it in small paths in the jungle which people have to take in order to get to you. They will either have to get feared by the box or go all the way around in order to catch you. Another great use for this ability is using it as a free 60-second ward.If the enemy team has Syndra, she can actually pick up your box, and throw it at you. This ability also triggers Courage of the Colossus .

Two-Shiv Poison - When this ability is not on cooldown, it will cause Shaco's basic attacks to slow down enemies. If you attack a minion/monster it also reduces their attack speed. If you throw it, you apply the debuff on the enemy target but your basic attacks will no longer apply it to other targets until it comes off of cooldown. Even though it doesn't do much damage anymore, it's a nice ability to slow down running enemies. This ability stacks with items like Frozen Mallet, Phage or with the red buff. If you want to use it in a fight, it's best to keep it as a finisher, since it scales with the percentage of the target's missing health.

Hallucinate - This ability is what makes Shaco so special in League of Legends. Once you use it you disappear for 1 second and then a copy/clone of you will spawn near you. If the clone dies it will deal magic damage to all nearby enemies and spawn three Jack In The Boxes in a triangle around him. You are able to control the clone by moving the mouse to the desired location and pressing R or by holding down ALT and right clicking. You can use this ability to initiate in a fight. It's great for split pushing and escaping as it will confuse the enemies. Just go in a bush and make the clone run in a random direction while you use Deceive to escape. When your team is diving a turret make your clone go first so it will tank the damage of the turret until it dies. In teamfights try to sneak up behind the enemy team and kill the carry, using this ability, as fast as you can. It has a low cooldown so don't be afraid to use it in any fight. The clone benefits from On-Hit effect items like Blade of the Ruined King or Black Cleaver. As I mentioned earlier Shaco will disappear for a split second when the ability is used. With the right timing you can dodge abilities and skillshots aimed at you such as Karthus's Requiem.

Summoner Spells

Jungle

Main Summoner Spells:

Deals true damage to monsters and heals you for a percentage of your maximum health. You MUST pick this when you are jungling.

Deals true damage to enemies over time and they take health gained from Heal or other healing abilities. Pretty good for taking down enemies who are low on health or making sure you won't lose a 1v1.

Alternative Summoner Spells

Good pick to slow down enemies and reduce their damage dealt, Armor and Magic Resist. Good tool for ganking and stopping enemies from running away. Pick this instead of Ignite.

Another good alternative to replace Ignite. You will pretty much be able to cover long distances if you use Deceive and Flash afterwards.

This Summoner Spell is great for creating more pressure around the map, especially for splitpushing. It can be used on your Jack In The Boxes.

Grab this instead of Ignite if the enemy has lots of CC or if you just don't feel safe when playing Shaco and you need another escape mechanic or just for chasing down enemies.

Make sure to leave some feedback on this build and I will make sure to improve it as much as possible. If this build gets a good amount of positive feedback, I will make sure to finish it, and make it more in-depth. I'm planning on adding more chapters, explaining his items, mechanics and his overall playstyle.
