Runes:
Items
Ability Order
Lightslinger (PASSIVE)
Lucian Passive Ability
Introduction
Press The Attack works well with his passive Lightslinger, which makes him proc this rune super fast allowing for a lot of expose damage |
This rune permanently adds attack speed as the early game goes by. This rune is especially good for because it allows for them to be able to pump out more damage, raising overall DPS potential. |
When Lucian uses any ability, his next auto attack will have a double-shot. |
As mentioned earlier, Lucian is an early game dominant . You want to generally work with aggressive kill lanes, because Lucian is deadly enough in a 1v1 but when CC'ed it is almost a free kill, or free Flash, or Heal. Supports I generally enjoy playing with are Thresh, Leona, Braum, or Pyke. Of course there are many other supports that do well with Lucian, but these are personal favorites, and you should do well when matched together.
Level 1, you usually want to start with Piercing Light. This ability is your main damage source, along with it being a decent wave clear tool, and poking tool. You need to be pushing for a first level 2. This is where your supports usually come in. Having supports like Thresh, you should be able to get a CC combo with just level 2. Level 2 you quickly level up Relentless Pursuit. Level 3 is usually meh time, you won't be pulling off too many extended fights so this is where I would actually put another skill point into Piercing Light, to have more burst in my kit.
^When you hit the level 6 stage, you are at a stalemate almost. Lucian does not have any game changing ultimate. This is where champions like Vayne, or Kai'Sa. Their ultimates provide for a large powerspike in their kit. Lucian is about sharpening mechanics and timing, you need to know how the other champions work.
^For example, when you are Lucian vs. Kai'Sa watch for her E, and R. ALWAYS wait out her Killer Instinct, before you ultimate, because she can easily dodge it. That goes the same with her E, which actually gives her a damage boost, but also gives her a movespeed buff. Her movespeed while casting E, is enough to dodge your Piercing Light. The same goes along with Vayne, with her Invisibility and Tumble.
Later into the game, your focus is to shred anybody in front of you based on target priority. You want to kill the highest value target and win your team the teamfight. When you are peeled, you need to be keeping up with the enemy ADC's damage. I will further explain this in the next chapter.
As a duelist, you lack in teamfight potential. You will fall behind when it comes to team wipe, UNLESS you have sharp Lucian mechanics. Of course even with good mechanics, it is hard to outdamage a champion like Twitch.
^ Lucian's main source of damage as the game goes on is his Lightslinger. You will be wanting to get this passive off as many times in a fight, but how do you do that?
^ You will want to work on SHORT DASHING. Quick note, you want to be using quick cast, when preforming this trick. You want the closer as close to your body, so you will have almost no animation within your dash, the trade off is not going a far distance. This will automatically give you a Lightslinger shot.
^ After using that dash, you want to proceed with a Piercing Light RIGHT AFTER the second shot in your passive goes off, almost as if it were an animation cancel. The damage will still go off, and you shave off time with your damage potential.
^^^^^ The same applies after when you will be using Ardent Blaze.
Final thing is, if you are out of abilities, or not in a safe range, use your Culling to get damage off in a safe range, or to execute someone who is far away. If your abilities are up, and you are positioned well, there is no situation where your ultimate will do more damage, so you are better off actually using your regular abilities.
Teamfighting on Lucian should be simple actually. You apply what you learned with the Lucian Mechanics section and apply it here. I will also expand on target priority.
Target Priority: Twitch > Nami > Orianna > Xin Zhao > Malphite
These are simple examples of the deadliest targets/ones you want to kill first, to last. In a fight, you want to usually prioritize the enemy ADC, because they are their main source of damage. Twitch is an amazing example because he has team wipe potential, and if stayed untouched, will ace your team.
^ Of course there are situations where you cannot get to the most important target, because champions like Camille, or Irelia won't let you. Instead you would stick to the ADC Golden Rule.
DAMAGE WHOEVER IS IN YOUR DAMAGE RANGE/WHOEVER IS CLOSEST TO YOU
Similar to Xayah, you need to watch out for dangerous abilities that could end the fight for your team. You want to use Relentless Pursuit to dodge fatal abilities like Death Sentence. When you use your dash carelessly you are open to game changing ultimates like Chain Of Corruption, or Enchanted Crystal Arrow. Of course the same goes for you of course. You can always punish others who use their abilities carelessly by dashing INTO THEM.
Since Lucian is a low range you play almost as a semi frontline. You aren't the squishiest ever, with the potential to contest champions like Ahri. You don't always have to let your own team engage. You can have small skirmishes and win them, since Lucian actually excels in things like that. This is good for you since it is hard for you to 100-0 everybody on the enemy team. Having a hypercarry like Twitch is bad for you, especially when it comes to fighting late game, with everybody full HP. That is where you start small skirmishes and maybe even bait out key abilities like Twitch's Spray And Pray. Lucian has no key abilities other than Relentless Pursuit, which can actually be taken off CD easily, with the passive mixtures of Lightslinger, and Relentless Pursuit.
