Choose Champion Build:

  • LoL Champion: Jarvan IV
  • LoL Champion: Jarvan IV
  • LoL Champion: Jarvan IV

Introduction

Hello I want to tell you a little bit about Jarvan because he is one of my favourite characters

He fits into the Role of A DPS-carry, Offtant and Tank. And he always does his Job
He's also a good DPS-support (maybe a new hero class but that's how i would call it)

He has a lot of CC and if you know how to use your ulti you will gat a kill 95%

I'm going to improve my guide and will add a jungling section soon

Because I use these abbreviations very often I will explain them to you:
AD champions = Champions who do a lot of normal damage (Garen,Renekton)
DPS champions = Champions who do a lot of normal damage with their auto attacks (Tryndamere, all AD Carries)
AP champions = the ones who do magic damage and rely on their abilities

Runes

There are many options of Runes that fit on Jarvan

I prefer armor penetration Marks and Quintessences
+ flat armor seals and flat magic resist glyphs

Good stats on Jarvan are:
Armor, Magic resist, Dodge, Life, Armor penetration, Attack speed

feel free to combine them like you want, but i would recommend you not to take anything but armor penetration or attack speed for marks even if you play as a tank, because the amount of defensive stats you get with marks is ver low and not worth it

Summoner Spells

My favourite choice:
Good for escaping and chasing against one champion... it will help you for First Blood an everytime you want to focus a specific enemy

You can use it for Chasing the enemies especially in early game when you have no boots yet. It also helps you if you have to escape in early, mid and late game.

Other Options would be:

Helps for escaping enemy champions or any bad ulti like Jarvan's

-> more survivability

if they have a mundo or lifesteel based champ;
maybe you can kill someone with low life running away from you with this skill (works good in early game)

if you play good you won't need it

get a maximum of map control

If you play jarvan as a tank fortify is never wrong... you should always have at least one summoner with that spell in your team

Skill Sequence

Martial Cadence
Jarvan IV's first attack on his target deals 10% of the target's current health as bonus magic damage, this caps at 400 damage. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds.

That's why Jarvan is strong even as a tank. I think this Passive is kind of OP but it can be countered by magic resist because you won't buy magic penetration (as far as i hope)

Dragon Strike
Jarvan IV extends his lance through his opponent, dealing 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+1.10 per bonus attack damage) physical damage and lowering their armor by 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26% for 3 seconds. If its lance contacts his standard it will pull Jarvan IV to its location, knocking up all enemies in his path.

Cooldown 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 seconds | Cost 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 mana |

never forget the armor reduction -> he's a good tank killer
+long range -> helps to last hit escaping enemies

Golden Aegis
Jarvan IV forges a shield protecting him for 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 (+20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 per nearby enemy champion) damage for 5 seconds and slowing surrounding enemies by 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% for 2 seconds upon activation. The shield adds more mitigation for every enemy champion nearby when activating.

Cooldown 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 seconds | Cost 75 mana |

"Slow them all! + Shiled yourself"

Demacian Standard
Passive: Grants Jarvan a bonus 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26% attack speed and 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 armor.

Active: Jarvan IV throws a Demacian flag to a nearby area, dealing magic damage to enemies in the area and granting his passive benefits to nearby allies and again to himself for 8 seconds.

Cooldown 12 seconds | Cost 60 mana |

He and his allies get a nice boost + you can also use that to lasthit enemies standing near a tower with low life

Cataclysm
Jarvan IV heroically leaps to an enemy champion, dealing 200 / 350 / 500 (+1.5 per bonus attack damage) physical damage and creating a circle of impassable terrain around them for a 3.5 second duration. Jarvan IV can destroy the area by activating it again. Champions can still leave or enter the area by using teleport abilities.

Cooldown 120 / 105 / 90 seconds | Cost 100 / 125 / 150 mana |

I will tell you how to use this above

Skilling order:
you should always level your ulti 6/11/16
In every case you want to level up damacian standard because you and your team can benefit a lot from it -> Level to you want to get dragon strike because of throwing the enemy into the air
if you level up dragon strike or golden aegis first depends on your playstyle: dragon strike = aggresive ; golden aegis = defensive

Playstile

How to play Jarvan? - The answer it's pretty easy: you just have to be able to use your E -> Q combo

Laning: You are a strong laner (2 ranged abilities)
always try to hit them and run back - because of you will hit them hard
Jarvan has a long attack range (175) for a meele figther = the same range as Xin
If you one to hit the enemy one tiem and turn arround immediately you should be able to get this was a little bit of training
-> it is never worth for a meele enemy to harass you with autoattacks because you hit harder

If you want to kill someone:
1. Without your ult: + try to aim your standard behind the enemy so you will stand in their way of escape -> just autoattack and use to slow them
If they escape with low life try to lasthit with which should be useable again
2. If you have your Ulti: Initiate with
the enemy will try to escape if he has no escape mechanism just autoattack and do what i told in step one 1.
If he has any escape mechanism or Flash: Be ready two use your E -> Q combo use it as he uses his escaping tactic... for this you have to guess in what direction he might escape

if you want to kill shaco with more than half of his life: don't waste your ulti

Teamfigths:
1. Focus the squishies
2. If you don't play him as a tank you will NOT initiate the teamfight
3. Just kill them the way I told you before

Items

In this section I will mention all items you can use as Jarvan... I would not recommend you to by other items because they don't really work on Jarvan or you will want to sell them in lategame

Starting item: I always start with It gives you good survivability in earlygame and helps you if you are getting harrased

Boots:
I would always recommend this because as a dps champ you have to be fast and the enemies can harm you with stuns and slows; if you are a tank or offtank you want to help your teammates and initiate figths -> doesn't work if you are stuned or slowed to 150 running speed
Gives some attack speed -> helps in the jungle (if you want to jungle with Jarvan), but you will maybe want to sell it in the endgame because mercury's are better
Only if the enemies have a lot of DPS champs like Tryndamere or Nocturne (I mean characters who rely on their autoattacks)
they work too - but I would not recommend you to take these

Offensive:
Attack damage, speed, armor and a awsome passive...
I just use it in one build in that guide but it works very well
it gives attack speed and reduces the armor of nearby enemies. And don't forget the attack speed and lifesteal buff for all alies around
This is one of the best items on DPS champions i think... (If you have heve Stark's + Runes and Masteries + this you will deal full damage to a enemy with 90-100 armor -> any mage with one defensive item) also: the other dps champs in your team will love you for that item)
I love this Item. You can use it on any DPS champ and it will work because it gives you a high amount of damage and a lot of lifesteel. With this item every DPS champ is able to kill jungle monsters staying at full life. But the Item is a bit Risky because because you lose all the stacks everytime you die
This item explains itself -> lots of damage
but it is very expensive... don't buy it if you're not getting fed (ok it's obviously not easy not go get fed if you play Jarvan like I tell you)
If the enemy team has a lot of tanks stacking armor (don't buy it if they have just one tank... it's not worth it)
i personally don't like that item but I would lie if I told you that youmuu's is a bad item. It is indeed very good and worth it's price, but i prefer armor reduction before armor penetration
one of my personal favourite items because you get really fast at killing and running... this item works very well on Jarvan
You can use every part of this (the ability power not so much, just for one ability) never forget the nice passive of it
fits better on champs with abilities that benefit form on-hit effects (Nasus,Garen)
do the enemies have a jax? you don't really need it otherwise... it's good but there are better options for Jarvan
If you have problems with the enemy mages. this is a good offensive and defensive item at once
that helps you if you are nuked by enemy mages in the early game... buy this only if you really have no other option because it's close to useless in the endgame
only if you go jungling
maybe the best choice as a offtank

Defensive:
A lot of life and a offensive slow -> you get more survivability + if you focus one special enemy he won't escape - you won't need to buy this and a trinity force
The best choice for every champion who needs survivability and uses mana for his abilities. I pretty like the spell shield ! Remember that you have mana problems as long as you don't have blue buff
It's also a good item - a must have if you play a him as a tank because of the regeneration + it has the highest amount of magic resist of all items
if you fierce a AD heavy team you should buy this the other option would be thornmail
Also good because you should always be in the middle of the fight -> deal a lot of AoE damage + survive
If the enemies have a lot of autoattackers
If the enemy team has more than the half DPS champs
This gives you a lot of survivability + the special effect: the enemies don't want to attack you because you have such a huge amount of life -> you can kill them one after the other without problems
I personally don't like snowball Items... but: if you get a lot of kills this will work and improve your survivability - the passive with 20 stacks is awesome - maybe not the best item on Jarvan
is a good item but i don't like it
If you are focused a lot (might happen because you kill the enemies so often that they will hate you) You can also try to make a granade build plus this - it helps if you are squishy and have a lot of lifesteal to reach full health fast
Back to Top

DPS-support

Your role as a DPS-Support is to reduce the armor of the enemies and don't let them escape from your team -> use your CC

You are also strong in 1on1 or 2on1 figths because Jarvan is pretty strong

Build example balanced/AP heavy team:

against a AD heavy team:

the role of the frozen malet is the slow + the slow of randuins - you can't have enough CC

You reduce the armor of the enemies a lot with , and You should initiate Ganks with the help of another AD champ... best choise would be someone with a jumping ability like Xin Zhao (to jump into your ulti circle)

Your role is to throw them up and slow them with + Keep them in Prison ( )
if you have no jungler in the team, take the bluebuff because you will need the mana regeneration and the cooldown reduction

If you like to play a bit more tanky:

It's important to choose the right teammates if you play as a DPS-support:

Meele carries who have a mechanism to join your ulti circle:

Ranged carries:

As you see the amount of champions you can succesfully support is huge
Back to Top

DPS

Your role is just to kill the enemy squishies as fast as possible.
1. Don't make the mistake to buy no defensive items
2. Don't initiate teamfigths
3. Never focus the tank
4. Have fun seeing how much damage you deal

You will always need a Lifesteal item! Buy it as early as possible!

one build example balanced:

a little more defensive also balanced:

against a AD heavy team:

against a AD heavy team:

the attack speed version:

and last but nor least the fun build:
don't use it in ranked games or versus bots (annie will kill you)

also possible as a granade build:

this version is more viable in a game but I wouldn't recommend it
Back to Top

Offtank

As a Offtank your role is to survive the teamfight and deal a lot of damage.
1. You are not the main tank -> don't initiate teamfigths
2. You will kill nearly everyone in a 1on1 fight
3. Focus the squishies
4. You don't kill the enemies as fast as if you played as pure DPS but you also deal an insane amount of damage + yiou won't be focused that often

You will always need a Lifesteal item! Buy it as early as possible!

Build example balanced:

against a AD heavy team:

agains a AD heavy + DPS dominated team:

against a AP heavy team:

Higher burst damage:

Tank

Your role as a Tank:
1. Initiate fights: you want to attack the enemies first so they use their ultis etc on you and not your teammates who will die fast if focused
2. You should have some CC: If you initiate a fight and the enemies just run away you have not fulfilled your job - the best version is a taunt but you have none... instead you can throw the hole enemy team up in the air
3. Help your carries to get kills -> don't killsteal because they need the money more than you

Finding the right build for the tank to counter the enemy team is your job. If you buy the wrong equipment you will die to fast.

Versus a balanced Team:

Versus a AD heavy team:

Versus a DPS/AD heavy team:

or:

Versus a AP heavy team:

Special case: If the enemy has no DPS hero who can use Madred's Bloodrazor or anyone who does percentual damage you can build like that:

Last comment: Don't change your hole build just because one enemy can counter you... he will also need a long time to kill you because you have to much life etc... If the enemy is Vayne tell your teammates to kill her emediately
Back to Top

Pros / Cons

Pros
+ a lot of damage
+ a lot of CC
+ good in 1 on 1
+ good escape mechanism
+ as a DPS not as squishy as other DPS champs
+ overpowered
+ good laning
+ stong in all steps of game

Cons
- tanks always need a team to deal the damage -> teamdependent
- low mana
- as a tank: you don't have the abilities to tank at level 12... you need equipment (Rammus, Alistar don't rely that much on their equipment)
