Introduction

Hi All, This is my Amumu Jungle guide. Amumu is one of my favorite champs currently to jungle with. Even in season 3 Amumu is still strong and his ganks with Bandage Toss and Curse of the Sad Mummy is very strong. He can be tanky if build right and can also deal good damage. His biggest + though is his team presence. Initiating team fights and locking down the enemy team with his ulti is where Amumu shines. This sadly leads to him being banned a lot in ranked...but when you can play him it will lead to tears for the enemy team.

Enjoy this quide and please leave comments on what you like/ dislike about it.

Thanks

Spells

The two most common spells to take on Amumu.

Flash To help initiate, get in position for ulti or to get away
Smite No jungler should be without this

Other options:
Ghost Enhance speed to chase or run away. Works better on Dr. Mundo than on Amumu

The rest are not really options for jungle Amumu and will just make him cry

Abilities

Cursed Touch Amumu's passive reduce magic resistance when attacking - thus make sure to throw in AA while attacking

Bandage Toss Amumu's tool to gank or catch escaping enemies. It is a long slow skill shot that takes some practice to get used to. Can also use to escape - use it over bushes to monster camps to escape or to travel quickly through jungle. Also a 1 second stun. Take level in this at lvl 4 to use for ganks - then will max it after all other abilities

Despair AOE damage, nice farming tool that deals % of enemy max health damage per second. This with Tantrum is Amumu's main jungling and farming abilities.

Tantrum When activate it deals damage to surrounding units. Cooldown get reduced for each time Amumu is attacked. This enables Amumu to clear jungle camps and minion waves quickly - the more things hitting him the quicker he can throw a Tantrum.

Curse of the Sad Mummy Amumu's ulti is what makes him a regular ban. When used at right time can immobilise an entire enemy team. This use of Amumu's ulti can win or lose you team fights. To early or to late and it can be a disaster (your team not ready to engage or close enough, enemy carry not rooted, etc) Also ir prevents movement and AA - bot abilities.

Some Notes:
Amumu can Flash or Bandage Toss into an engagement and then use Curse of the Sad Mummy to lock down targets. Bandage Toss can then be used to catch any fleeing enemies. Remember to switch on Despair when engaging. Tantrum is used as soon as comes of cooldown. Curse of the Sad Mummy also works nicely with ulti's from other champs (by making enemy champs stay still so that skill shots or other aoe abilities can be fully utilised. ) As mentioned make sure to AA to use passive.

Items

Start Items:

The start items are quite standard for junglers in S3: Hunter's Machete + 5 Health Potion.
This enable you to do first clear quite fast with enough health to do blue, wolves, wraiths, golems, red, wraiths, wolves on the first clear before have to go back and have about 680+ gold.

Early game items:

philosopher's stone

On first back you get philosopher's stone. This will help with gold income, some mana and health regen. On the next back I will usually get Boots + Rejuvenation Bead + some more Health Potion. Or ( Spirit Stone if have enough gold.) This then builds into Spirit Stone on the next back and gives you a little health regen in the meantime.

Mid Game items:

This is where it starts to get tricky. The item order etc depends on how you did in early game, how your team is doing, what is the enemy team composition etc.

If things go well I will try to get 1000 gold before going back and get my Giant's Belt. This gives you some nice extra health. Giant's Belt also builds into both Sunfire Aegis or Spirit of the Ancient Golem depending on your needs. In S2 you built Mercury's Treads on Amumu but with the tenacity from Spirit of the Ancient Golem you don't need this anymore and can rather get Mobility Boots as they make you super fast! Extra Health Potion or sight ward are also always handy.

Note: I almost always sell philosopher's stone late game when need extra slot. I prefer other items to the usual Shurelya's Battlesong that philo builds into.

By the end of the mid game you should have completed your This will give you lots of health, health regen, come CD and 35% tenacity.

End Game:

There are a number of items that can be considered in the end game:
This is what I usually go for - 500 extra health + a slow. But maybe too expensive? Maybe need to rather go for Randuin's Omen. Only slows by 15% with AOE (which is most of amumu's abilities).

With Bandage Toss and Rylai's Crystal Scepter or Randuin's Omen this is nice item that gives health and burns the target for damage.

Again health, and a slow . If you need armor build this, if want more AP build Rylai's.

If your support is not building it and the enemy is AP heavy then this will help you and your team.

AP, health and mana - all will help you. Get early so that its passive can help you. Also needs 10 minutes before fully charged.

Armor and Mana and a 20% slow on AS of enemies. Against a AD heavy team this is a good item.

New item in S3- gices cd,mana, armor and 125% damage on next auto attack after the use of an ability. Still undecided on this one

More Speeeeeeddd !!!!

More for support but helps your team if they run to you

End slots might look like this:

Item Sequence

Mobility Boots 1000
Spirit of the Ancient Golem 2000
Sunfire Aegis 2700
Abyssal Mask 2650
Rylai's Crystal Scepter 2600
Liandry's Torment 3000

Jungling

This is the jungling routes I use most often:

If playing with random team start at Ancient Golem ( Blue Buff) (1) and ask for team to help damage ,then go Wolves (2) , Wraiths (3), Golems (5) do Elder Lizard ( red buff) (4) , wraiths again (3) . You should now be lvl 4 with at least 2 health pots remaining. You can now either do wolves (2) again and go back (should have enough gold for Philo) or look at lanes (6) and go gank if necessary. If ganking you can use pots to get back to full health otherwise don't use and go back.

If with team you know or people who can play that wont kill a wolf by accident can start at Wolves (2) then do Ancient Golem ( Blue Buff) (1) and followed by wraiths(3) etc

With Amumu never start Elder Lizard ( red buff)(4) unless if you got invaded. Amumu is very mana blue buff dependent at start.

When moving from (2) to (3) beware that if you are playing against Shaco he can put a box by the bushes at the Wraiths - this will lead to him killing you if not carefull. Rather go around from the river side to the wraiths in this matchup

Conclusion

Amumu is a fun character to play with a game changing ultimate. He is especially fun during a Blitzcrank free week! If you can't land your bandage just get Blitz to pull you into their team.....
