Hello. This is my first guide on MOBAfire. I would like to introduce Master Yi, one of the strongest (imo) late game carries. He is very fast and is a non stop killing machine. He can get PENTAKILLS very easily. I prefer laning but you can still jungle with him. Hope you will enjoy this guide and will help you play Master Yi.

Pros and Cons:

I prefer Greater Mark of Desolation, , and Greater Quintessence of Desolation.

Reds: I like these because of the extra damage.

Yellows: I like having mana regen early game so you can continusly harass with you Alpha Strike.

Blues: Having that extra crit damage will boost your late game dominance.

[Double Stike]-Master Yi strikes twice every 7th attack.

This allows you to basically crit every 7th hit. Really good early game damage, and did I tell you? you can have 2k crits with this passive.

[Alpha Strike]- Master Yi leaps across the battlefield with blinding speed, dealing magic damage to multiple units in his path with a chance to deal bonus magic damage to minions.

Master Yi leaps across the battlefield striking up to 4 enemies, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+1 per ability power) magic damage to each enemy with a 20/30/40/50/60% chance to deal 400 bonus magic damage to minions.
Cooldown - 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
Cost - 80/90/100/110/120 Mana
Range - 600

Your "dive move", or intiate move. Great for farming and harassing. You can also tower dive with this move. I believe it gives you invincibility when you use it so you CAN tower dive with it. Scales with AP.

[Meditate]- Master Yi rejuvinates his body by focus of mind, restoring health and increasing his armor and magic resistance for a short time.

Master Yi channels, restoring 140/280/420/560/700 (+1.65 per ability power) health over 5 seconds. While channeling, Master Yi gains 100/150/200/250/300 armor and magic resistance.
Cooldown - 35 seconds
Cost - 70/85/100/115/130 Mana
Range - Self

Protects you from ,, etc. Really good for surviving those turret divers. At level 5, it grants you 300 magic resist and armour plus it heals you 700 HP.

Wuju Style- Master Yi becomes skilled in the art of Wuju, passively increasing the power of his physical attacks. Activating Wuju Style doubles the passive bonus damage for a short time, but the passive bonus is temporarily removed after the effect wears off.
Passive: Increases physical damage by 15/20/25/30/35.

Active: Master Yi can activate this ability to double its effectiveness for 10 seconds, but this removes the passive bonus until Wuju Style becomes available again.
Cooldown - 25 seconds
Cost - 40 Mana
Range - Self

A Free BF sword. Awesome damage early and mid game.

[Highlander] - Master Yi moves with unparalleled agility, temporarily increasing Master Yi's movement and attack speeds as well as making him immune to all slowing effects. Additionally, killing a Champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns.

Increases Master Yi's movement speed by 40% and Attack Speed by 40/60/80%, and he becomes immune to all slowing effects for 6/9/12 seconds. Additionally, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns, and scoring an assist reduce the cooldowns by half.
Cooldown - 75 seconds
Cost - 120/120/120 Mana
Range - Self

The skill that makes you unstoppable. It is your MAIN move. It buffs your attack speed, if you get a kill, all of your skills reset, and you cannot be slowed. This allows you to easily get double, triple, quadra, and pentakills. This is what makes Yi amazing.

These are the items that Master Yi should have. These are your core
items. You should at least get boots, PD and IE. Those are your main items and is the most important to Yi.

Good Attack Speed. With 1 Phantom Dancer, you already have 1.4 AS, which is good.

AWESOME item on Master Yi. I prefer this over Youmuu's because you can farm easily with it (no need for active) and also, I like the good crit chance + movement speed.

Another great item on Master Yi. What else do you need? Crit dmg, crit chance and a whooping 80 AD!

Great to get because Master Yi can easily farm up 40 minions and VAMP is great on the champ. Awesome AD and VAMP.

I usually get this as the last item because lategame, you might die to nukes really fast. This fixes the problem so you won't have to get red buff and not be very squishy.

This item gives you attack speed AND good damage. The debuff really boosts up your damage.

6th Item

Remember that your 6th item should ALWAYS be situational. Here is some items you should get. (see Situation Items and down below)

Need more damage and more lifesteal in your game? This is what you should get. Remember to farm it up.

Is your enemy having more DPS power then you? This is good for more crits + more AS.

More DPS and high armoured enemys?

Situational Items

Mercury's Treads
Enemy team SUPER HEAVY CC? These will make them shorter by 35% and will give you good magic resist.

Last Whisper
If your facing super heavy defense tanks like , or there team is stacking loads of defense, this is your solution.

Madred's Bloodrazor
If the enemy team has a lot of auto attackers+ has loads of health like , Madred's will own them with some AS.

Wriggle's Lantern
If no one is buying wards and you want to farm faster, + the enemy team has a lot of AD, this is awesome for your team because of a free ward every 3 minutes.

Force of Nature
Now, this item you should ONLY get if you are getting 2 shot by nukers like , , or any other super hard nukers. This will give you good health regen + good magic resist

Quicksilver Sash
This allows you to cleanse out of CC. Saved my life MANY times.

Guardian Angel
If you are too squishy and need more DEF and MRES. Also, the passive is nice, allows you to rape the enemy twice.

Summoner Spells

This helps Master Yi slow down the enemy and p0wn the victim. Perfect for Yi.

Great escape. I use flash because Highlander is basically a ghost. You can escape, flash exhause, kill, and also flash through walls. Awesome for Yi.

Good Options

Faster Yi= more chasing. I prefer because you already have to escape and chase.

First blood can be scored easily with this but I usually dont get this as I dont harass my enemys a lot.

CleanseActually one of the best summoner spells for Yi. It stops stuns, blinds and other CC. Saved my life a lot of times.

Teleport is kinda good on Yi for more map control and saving those turrets + backdooring.
Be careful in higher ELO, the enemy's will get you when you are backdooring those turrets so care. :)

Early Game: Early game is where you are weak. Try to farm and get your Phantom Dancer/B.F. Sword and your Boots. Remember, farm farm farm! If you can, go get a kill, but always be farming.

Mid Game: If your not killing, FARM! Get as many kills and FARM as much as possible. Try to get fed, and try to backdoor some turrets. Remember you should at least have 150 CS in 30 minutes. You should have your first 3 or 4 items and should be p0wning the other team.

Late Game: If you farmed enough and got some kills, you should PWN the other team. This is where you shine. You would be able to carry your team to victory!

I believe that Yoyo's is a waste on Yi. It is good, but Highlander is already good. I get a Phantom Dancer on Yi instead because he can farm better, always have the 30% crit and can battle for a longer period of time. With yoyo's you kind of like burst and what happens when Yoyo's buff runs out? YOU die. With PD, you can continusly rape for 30 seconds (or more) but with Yoyo's, you only can have that awesome burst for 8 seconds. It is good on other champs like but i think is good enough for Yi. You can get this though, as it is only good for backdooring (in higher ELO's, they have more map awareness so its VERY risky) and having short bursts. I recommend over .

-NEVER surrender! You might be able to get a little fed and then carry your team to victory!
-If you want to harass, wait for there to be a few minions, then alpha strike to hit the champ.
-Always be farming. It is just soo important for Yi to farm
-Get red buff as it is very good on Yi.
-NEVER highlander into battle. It is a waste. Use it IN the fights.
-If you escape the team battle, you can W then get back in and continue pwning
-Dont be afraid to turret dive if your 100% sure your going to get a kill.
-You are not the tank. You go in the back and decimate the squishys. NEVER initiate.
-Focus the squishys so you wont get pwned by them.

Jungle Master Yi

(please note that Jungling is currently not finished)
Master Yi is a great laner and a jungler. His high damage with red buff can make ganking super easy. He is one of the fastest junglers and kind of has to be lucky in order to jungler fast.

Items for JUNGLE

First, when I jungle, I start of with Cloth Armor and 5x . My build usually is:

Wriggle's Lantern is really good for jungling. It will give you a free ward, good lifesteal and super fast jungling. All for a very cheap price.

Jungle Runes

I have been sucessful with these runes. 9xGreater Mark of Desolation, 9x , 3xGreater Quintessence of Desolation, or 3x . Doesnt matter what blues you have but I generally go with Greater Glyphs of alacrity because I use the ArmPen quints.

Jungle Route


So first, you go to the small golems. You them,hoping for a proc, then you the one that you are attacking. Add one to Wuju Style. When they both die, head to the Wraiths. Go again, and focus the big one. Add Meditate. Pop a , then go to wolves. it, then kill them, head back to base, then buy your . Go to blue golem, it, then FOCUS the golem. it when it has low health and then finish off the small minions. Pop a health potion if you need to, use meditate if you need to, and add one point to Wuju Style. Repeat what you did to Blue, instead do it to red, then kill the small golems, wolves, and wraiths, then GANK GANK GANK!
