Sona abilities explain

The ability descriptions are from mobafire and Sona wiki, how to use section is original.

Sona, the Maven of Strings

PASSIVE ABILITY
Power Chord
Accelerando: Sona gains 0.5 ability haste permanently for her basic abilities as she uses her abilities well which doesn't include her ultimate, up to a cap of 60 ability haste. Beyond that cap, further successful uses reduce her ultimate's remaining cooldown by 1.5 seconds each time instead.

Power Chord: Every 3 spell casts, Sona's next attack will deal 20−240 (+20% of ability power) bonus magic damage in addition to an additional effect depending on what kind of basic ability that Sona last activated.

How to Use
Power Chord is an auto reset, so a classic combo is auto, any non-r ability, Power Chord auto
when you already have Power Chord, you can't auto reset like above, but you can use it to clear or wards. For example, if you are currentonly on Power Chord, you can auto the ward, then press w , *auto reset* auto the ward, press or , and *auto reset* auto the ward again. So you can take down a normal ward in less than 0.5s. See twitch clip. This no longer work in patch 14.2.
With full stacks of Accelerando, you can just use at the beginning of teamfight to kill someone or at anyone when not in teamfight for picks, it will come back up really fast

= most damage, good for poke
= exhaust, good for all ins / peel, use it on whoever does most damage; if you don't know what to use, just use this one, it's really op
= slow, good for chasing and kiting

Q

Hymn of Valor
Range: 825
Cooldown: 8 at all ranks
Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70
Speed: 1300

Active: Sona deals 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+40% of ability power) magic damage to the nearest two enemies, prioritizing champions. She then begins a new Melody. Gain a stack of Accelerando for every champion you damage with this.

Melody: Sona gains an aura for a few seconds, granting allied champions an additional 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+20% of ability power) magic damage on their next attack within 5 seconds.

Power Chord - Staccato: Power Chord deals 28−336 (+28% of ability power) bonus damage.

How to Use
targets the two enemies that are closest to Sona, adjust your position for to cs / help cs under tower
active out ranges ADC/Sup autos, you can use it to proc gold without taking enemy autos
even if you hit both q on champions, only procs once, but stacks twice, for 1% ability haste
hit one is good, hit two is very good
auto, , auto is most damage combo
do not walk too up for Power Chord autos, just q is fine, and walk back to ally to proc passive aura for extra damage
Since Sona out ranges autos, what you can do is walking into someone to get into range, and then press and walk back as soon as they turns, that way their autos don't land on you

Tricks on knowing max range: range indicator (toggle HUD) by TothB (I personally don't use it); go to training, get a dommy, walk around and press to see if you can manipulate the max range; play a lot of games, there's no short cuts, only muscle memory

W

Aria of Perseverance
Range: 1000
Cooldown: 10 at all ranks
Cost: 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100
Speed: 1300

Active: Sona restores 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 (+20% of ability power) health to herself and a nearby allied champion, prioritizing the most wounded. She then begins a new Melody.

Melody: Sona gains an aura for a few seconds, granting allied champions a 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 (+30% of ability power) shield for the next 1.5 seconds. Gain a stack of Accelerando whenever you heal another injured ally and every time you protect another ally from at least damage with this shield.

Power Chord - Diminuendo: Power Chord also reduces physical and magic damage dealt by the target by 25% (+4% per 100 ability power) for 3 seconds.

How to Use
Do not spam for health in lane before getting
Before tear, you only use it when you and ADC lost more than 100 health, and enemy is about to damage you/ADC; treat as a shield ability instead of healing. After tear, just press whenever someone is not full health for passive Power Chord ability haste stacks
Can click ally’s in game character to see if they are full health (top left corner)
Make sure you don’t press other abilities before applying shields on ally, same as , uilitizing auras or not is the key difference between a good Sona and bad Sona

is a mini exhaust, it is good in bot lane all ins, use it on whoever does most damage
does not reduce true damage
In teamfights, use on assassins or whoever is trying to burst you

E

Song of Celerity
Range: 400
Cooldown: 14 at all ranks
Cost: 65 at all ranks

Active: Sona begins a new Melody and grants herself 20% (+2% per 100 ability power) movement speed for 3 seconds, extended to up to 7 seconds if she doesn't take damage.

Melody: Sona gains an aura for seconds that grants allied champions 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 / 14% (+2% per 100 ability power) movement speed for 3 seconds.

Power Chord - Tempo: Power Chord also slows the target by 40% (+4% per 100 ability power) for 2 seconds.

How to Use
You can just press it off cold down (after getting to stack ), it doesn’t provide Power Chord stacks, but it keeps you fast
Use off cold down to get to lane and get to other places on the map
Use to slow enemy, for keeping distance/kite or chase
Use auto on enemy first, to increase the chance of hitting Crescendo on them, unless they don’t have vision of you, otherwise they can easily flash / juke Crescendo

R

Crescendo
Range: 1000
Width: 280
Cooldown: 140 / 120 / 100
Cost: 100 at all ranks
Speed: 2400
Cast Time: 0.25s

Active: Sona strikes an irresistible chord, stun any enemy it passes through for the next 1.5 seconds and dealing 150 / 250 / 350 (+50% of ability power) magic damage.

How to Use
For single target, Use auto on enemy first, to increase the chance of hitting Crescendo on them, unless they don’t have vision of you, otherwise they can easily flash / juke Crescendo
People always flash when they thought you are gonna ult, so use animation to deceive them

For multiple targets, you can just press Crescendo

Sona does not do anything
However, you can to land a better on the targets you want
I don’t recommend starting a full health 5v5 with as Sona, it puts you in a bad position to get targeted and die.

With full stacks of Accelerando, you can just use at the beginning of teamfight to kill someone or at anyone when not in teamfight for picks, it will come back up really fast

If you want more detailed numbers on her ap scalings and stats per level, this redirects to Sona wiki, it explains what her abilities does really well.
Pros and Cons
cc = crowd control
PROS
+ easy to play
+ infinite healing and shieldings
+ high mobility for team
+ outscales most supports
+ reduces enemy damage (unique)
+ teamfight hyper carry, so games are won more easily
+ easy to comeback and keep lead

No other champion can consistently provide high ally healing, shields, and self healing as Sona , once you get ahead, it becomes impossible for the enemy to kill your allies. Additionally, with , your team can roam and rotate on the map a few seconds faster, and can easily chase down enemies. Most of her abilities are auto-target, so you don't need to worry about missing them and feel overwhelmed.
CONS
- laning phase is hard, since it's a 2v2
- no non-r cc, so you can't punish Yuumi Nunu & Willump Rammus, or help leash scuttle
- very squishy early on
- need time to scale
- pre level 5, abilities are weak and high mana cost
- need at least 1 human on team

Since I'm introducing an utility Sona guide, it's quite coinflipping to have at least 1 player on the team that can 2v8 with you in low elo, in the worst case in scenorio. Also Sona has no cc and is very squishy, most ADC players don't want to play with her, so you will have an unpleasant chat experience.
Runes
PRIMARY RUNE
-

SORCERY
Summon Aery: is the best rune on Sona, because your mini abilities can constantly proc it
Arcane Comet: is a good poking rune and AP sona rune to go, if your team is lack of AP damage, pair well with Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike
Manaflow Band: is a good early game mana solution for Sona, since she's extremely mana thirst, other two runes are okay but not worth enough compared to
This is where the debates comes in, I prefer Transcendence because the ability haste and mini abilities CD refunds are heavy copes for me
Celerity can help you go bootless and dodge abilities
Absolute Focus gives you more lane damage and more heals later on, since you should always be full health as Sona
Scorch: is good for lane, if you are playing for lane dominance
Gathering Storm scales well, if you just feel like afk and scale, and you can ping it when people start ff votes *COPE*

SECONDARY RUNE
-

RESOLVE
Conditioning: is a great scaling rune on Sona, makes her more tanky later on
Bone Plating: you can go it if enemy bot has a very strong all in 2v2s between lvl 1-3, such as Draven and Pyke, and they can't easily proc Bone Plating unless they are all in
Revitalize: gives more healing for Sona, Forbidden Idol is 8% bonus heal and shield power, this is basically worth ~800g, goes well with utility Sona

SECONDARY RUNE
-

INSPIRATION
Biscuit Delivery: helps surviving lane vs poke champs, since Sona is weak early on with our other rune choices before first reset
Magical Footwear: is also an option
Cosmic Insight: reduces cooldown of your Flash, which increases your survivability vs jungler such as Jarvan IV Zac Rek'Sai, and reduces Seraph's Embrace cooldown by 10s ish.

FLAT STATS RUNE
-
Ability Haste: my personal preference, is scaling rune, doesn't help much with laning
Health Scaling: with two Health Scaling, you get more room of survivability, people often underestimate how broken flat health stats are
Adaptive Force: extra Hymn of Valor damage early on
Movement Speed: people often walk back as you walk towards them, so extra movement speed helps you proc Hymn of Valor on enemies, without getting into their auto range, pairs well with Celerity
Tenacity and Slow Resist: I think it's a scam, but it might work well with Unflinching and Mercury's Treads against heavy cc champs
Flat Health: is good for early game survival, if you feel like you will have trouble surviving early game, this is good
Summoner spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: is a good escaping / gap closing / gap distancing / skillshot dodge tool for all champions, Sona especially since she doesn’t have any dashes. It synergizes with quite well, since Sona can to land an AOE crowd control on enemies, which could be a key factor in winning a teamfight .
EXHAUST: synergizes well with Sona’s , it can reduce up to 60% of an Assassin / burst damage dealer’s damage, which makes them useless since they can’t kill anyone. also helps you to survive lane and ganks a bit. Use it on whoever is going to do the most damage and they are about to, if you have to choose between multiple targets.
HEAL: synergizes well with Revitalize, so your Heal early game is 1.5 times stronger if you have Revitalize, but scales with levels. Could bring it when your ADC wants Cleanse, or in general. Too bad ADC players can’t press on a Katarina on time and they refuse to not take .
IGNITE: is good for low elo I would say, because low elo bot laners are easily killable with ignite. You can also bring it when your team is lack of damage or vs Soraka.
Builds

CORE ITEMS
-
world atlas: Sona is a support, so this is her source of gold income. Note that after double supp items hotfix, you can get 7cs before 5 mins, 20cs/5mins after 5 mins. I recommend always use the stacks, don't keep 3 stacks on you.
Moonstone Renewer: Sona can consistently proc , since all of her non-r abilities interact with allies, and enhance healing/shielding benefits Sona really well.
Seraph’s Embrace: is the only solution to Sona mana thirst. Additionally, since they buffed seraph’s embrace, you can actually first item it and use it as a tank item. Sona stacks tear quite fast.

OPTIONAL ITEMS
-
Staff of Flowing Water: With , you can apply on an ally 24/7. Sona benefits a lot from AP, mana regen, and ability haste. AOE movement buff also broken for good players. Build when your team has more than 2 AP champions.
Oblivion Orb: reduces healing from enemies, provides Sona AP, mana regen, AP, and Health. Build when you see Soraka, Yuumi, Sylas, Olaf, Trundle, Irelia, Aatrox, , , , , , and any other champions that heals with healing items. Don't recommend upgrading it to until the very end.
Frozen Heart: If the enemy has more than 2 ADC champions or on hit AD champs, is a good choice. You can go tank Sona, with second item , and third item , which puts you in an unkillable position. If they also have high magic damage, you can go either or based on how much cc they have. is cheap, provides armor, ability haste, and flat mana stats, which synergizes the bonus ability haste and AP well with .
Zhonya's Hourglass: If enemy has champions such as Jarvan IV, Camille, Zed, Pyke, Karthus, is a good choice. Ideally don’t build it vs Caitlyn and go for other defensive items, such as or .
Mikael's Blessing: Build when the enemy has champions with cc and heavy AP, or when they have Lillia, Twisted Fate, which are cc that is impossible to dodge . You cannot use to cleanse Skarner, Warwick, Malzahar R, or knock ups.
Mejai's Soulstealer: Build when you are not dying, good with tank Sona strategy described in the sub part above.
Spirit Visage: Build when you are vs a lot of AP champions, like full AP comp, but with not a lot of cc, or can build with in that case. enhances Sona’s healings.
Ardent Censer: Build when you have 3-4 on-hit champions / ADC champions on your team for some reason. is not that good on Sona anymore, because it doesn’t provide ability haste.

BOOTS
-
Ionian Boots of Lucidity : Generally good, since it reduces cold downs.
Plated Steelcaps: When 3-4 or more enemies are AD threat.
Plated Steelcaps: When the enemy team has heavy cc, such as Leona, Fiddlesticks, Veigar.
Boots of Swiftness: When the enemy team has no cc, but has a lot of slows.
Supp Item choices explanation
Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike
SUPP ITEMS UPGRADES
-
Dream Maker: is what enchanters commonly go. It blocks some damage for allies and provide extra bonus magic damage. I think build it when you think your ADC is good, pairs well with .
Bloodsong: Increases damage to single target. Sona can consistently proc , her non-r abilities are short cd, is basically , so is a great user for it. Build when team lack of AD dmg, when you out range enemies, when you play with an AP bot laner.
Celestial Opposition: is basically crown from last season, it works well vs full melee assassin team compositions where they can't easily break your shield, it significantly increases your room of survivability.
Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike: Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike is good when you are going full ap sona, I think is better for enchanter item Sona.
Solstice Sleigh: I don't think is ever good on Sona compared to other supp items, its cooldown is way too high. and has the most gold value on Sona.

When to go what item path

check op.ggs at the beginning of the game, if anyone have an extremely high win rate, or above average winrate on a champion, observe them and build items around them if they are gonna be the ones carrying

Please remember that game situations also influence mini component building orders, those are just ideal build examples.

Scenario 1:
-
when you feel like your ADC is good and is hyper carry
jungle/mid/top are AD bruisers, so like 2-3 people on your team will benefit from on-hit buffs

when you feel like enemy team might first item , hence first iteming is bad

This combination provides an insane amount of utility and aoe Heal/Shields for AD teammates, helps them carry
Increases dragon/baron/tower push speed because of
gives insane early game damage and extra movement speed, so you can skip upgrading , or even buying with
have no extra bonus health stats/big shield unlike and , so you will be quite squishy, need to play extra carefully

Scenario 2:
-

when you feel like enemy team won't first item , hence first iteming is good
Like when your teammates doesn't have shields, so that you are the only one on your team with shields, then building will bait someone to buy , if not then you get a giant second health bar shield
when you have an AP adc or your team doesn't benefit much out of , but with 2-3 AP champs that will significantly benefit from
Or when you know your AP teammates are gonna be the ones carrying

This combination allows you to spam abilities in lane with and
First iteming gives you a lot of self peel and it scales really well with
Extra movement speed and AP from helps AP teammates a lot

Scenario 3:
-

when you feel like enemy team will first item , or have some sort of shield cut, hence first iteming is bad
when you are laning with an AD champ, have an AD jungler or mid laner that benefits a bit from Ardent Censer
when you also have AP teammates that will significantly benefit from Staff of Flowing Water

This combination gives you both early damage with ADC and bonus AP with AP teammates
cheap but the best two items on Sona
Makes you extra squishy, because you don't have extra base health stats from Moonstone Renewer or extra shield from Seraph's Embrace

Scenario 4:
-

when you are the only AP on your team, this is kinda fun
note that doesn't stack with , so your options are Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike

...
TBA
Matchups - enchanters

Enchanters matchups for Sona
-

tl&dr for enchanter matchups:
1. don’t walk into them and die lvl 1-4, or lose too much health;
2. be able to manipulate max Q and poke them whenever Sona Q is up, to earn gold, Power Chord stacks, and Manaflow Band stacks;
3. Don’t spam W for only health regen (don’t run out of mana), make use of the shield part;
then Sona can outscale them at lvl 5 with 2 points in W

Generally you take when vs enchanter supports, since they mostly sustain in lane, and don’t do enough burst damage to kill you from full health
If enemy walks toward you, walk back and press Q , so their autos and abilities don’t hit you; your Q out range most of their abilities
One common rule for supports: try to auto the minions with ADC to get lvl 2 first or at the same time, you auto second wave of melee minions that is not close to dying
lvl 2 formula = 1 wave + 3 melees
In lane positioning video, by Corejj. Recommend watching the series. Sona is a support, basic support rules apply to her.
And you can probably find numerous warding position videos by pro supports, I will focus more on Sona

ALSO, DO NOT BUY Control Ward. It’s a waste of gold. THE CYCLE OF WASTING 75G AND WASTE ANOTHER 75G TO PLACE THEM IN RANDOM SPOTS IS A CAPITALISM SCAM. It's better for you to get your ******** items and provide more utility than them.

Soraka:
Soraka
Laning phase: walk straight up to her and then walk back when you feel like she is about to Q, likely to bait out her Q
Your Q outranges Soraka Q , take advantage of it
Buy Oblivion Orb first item, do not upgrade
Do not max Q with having rank 1 W , keep in mind, you heal as much as Soraka. If you do need more Q damage, what you can do is rank Q this level, and rank W next level .
Sona outscales Soraka
Nami:
Nami
lvl 1 is important. Do not stand still and trade autos with Nami when she has w , only use Q and walk back, that way Nami either damage you or heals herself.
Your Q outranges Nami W , take advantage of it
If Nami has Electrocute, her lvl 2 burst when paired up with a Lucian is high, so maybe running Guardian is good when vs the Lucian Nami duo.
Nami Q and R are slow and easily to dodge if she’s not following a cc
Do not max Q with having rank 1 W , keep in mind, you are a healing machine. If you do need more Q damage, what you can do is rank Q this level, and rank W next level .
Sona outscales Nami
Janna:
Janna
Janna is bad into enchanter supports, hence Sona is good into Janna
Janna does not out damage Sona W
Your Q outranges Janna W , take advantage of it
would be good if you can press Q on both and her ADC, since Janna E is a single target shield
When Janna channels her Q , just walk to somewhere that you weren’t standing before
Would be good if you can use R on Janna when she R , it stops her R
Sona outscales Janna
Seraphine:
Seraphine
Seraphine Q E outranges Sona Q, she is stronger pre lvl 5. Just try to survive after lvl 5, when you have and at least rank 2 W , you can sustain her poke.
Early game, just try to get some gold
Sona is stronger than Seraphine in teamfights, since Sona abilities are shorter CD. But Seraphine R is longer range than Sona R . If you take then it won’t be lethal, take a flat Magic Resist rune if you do, since you will have 30 MR if you don’t.
Yuumi:
Yuumi
Yuumi doesn’t really do anything to you in lane, your can block her Q for ally
I think people have guides on how to juke Yuumi Q
If Yuumi W off to proc Feline Friendship, just kite back, so you can Q her and ADC both, before she W back to the ally
Yuumi is a team gap. If Ekko + Yuumi or Kayn + Yuumi, it’s not really about Sona, more about what your team does
Lulu:
Lulu
Same as Janna, Lulu E and autos gets out ranged by Sona Q , so if you can manipulate Sona Q range well and have at least 2 ranks of W , a heal champion like Sona can definitely outpoke/outstain shield champions like and
remember to kite back after you use Q after that one bonus damage auto, since passive is an on-hit bonus damage, so autos does more than autos
would be good if you can press Q on both and her ADC, since Lulu E is a single target shield
The only way Sona ever lose to Lulu is when Lulu has super aggressive early game runes, and you die to her early level, which might snowball and make the game harder
Sona outscales Lulu
Karma:
Karma
Karma is hard to deal with early level, at least before you have 2 points into W , since players usually run and , sometimes and , which makes early game laning way stronger than Sona
When you and ADC walk to lane from jungle leash, the Karma RQ is not really dodgeable; what you do is: don’t walk on top of your ADC, that way only one of you gets poked
If you are standing in a bush with no vision, try to stand towards the edge, instead of middle; Karma usually aims Q in the middle of bush
Don’t stand on the side of minions, since Karma Q explodes; is harder to land when it’s single target
You can even take a flat magic resist vs Karma if high elo
Taric:
don’t walk into Taric E
be ready to flash when he press E , because Taric might E
Taric R makes his teammates undamageable, but not immune to crowd control; so you can his teammates
go and if Taric is paired up with Tristana, with double flat armor, this is the only threatening combo
Rakan:
Rakan
you can interrupt Rakan W with R
your Q out ranges Rakan W
ward first bush level 1 (before minions spawn) if Rakan + Xayah
Bard:
Bard
Your Q outranges Bard, take advantage of it
When is missing, Be aware of walls near you, if you are too far from turret, after 3, Bard can tunnel in with their jungler; or roam mid
Bard is a mind game matchup, if you have good game & map awareness, you should be fine
Bard does not beat Sona in lane
Zilean:
Zilean Q is about same range as Sona Q
damaged is easily blocked by Sona W and
early boots might be good
Senna:
Senna
Senna is a marksman support, hence her lvl 1 is really strong, play it smart, do not trade autos with her
help ADC auto minions so Senna and enemy ADC don’t shove in and take turret plates for free
kite back and press Q so she can’t auto you
if you played Senna, whenever Senna moves, you can think about what angle her Q might be to dodge it
Sona outscale Senna after lvl 5, since you can heal her pokes
can take double flat armor if double marksman bot lane
Renata Glasc:
Renata Glasc
Sona Q outranges Renata Glasc
Ashe:
Ashe
Ashe with Hail of Blades have a lot of lane pressure lvl 1, recommend starting w Aria of Perseverance instead of q Hymn of Valor
try not to trade with her early on, you always lose
Sona outscales Ashe in teamfights
Milio:
Milio
Sona outrange Milio with Hymn of Valor, you don't have to trade autos
Try holding Crescendo and use it on Milio, Milio can't ult when he's ccd
Tell your team to get Oblivion Orb or Executioner's Calling
Twitch:
Twitch
Good luck, I don't know a way to beat his roams :D but I will prayge for you here.
Matchups - engages & roaming

Engages / Hookers matchups for Sona
-

From writing the enchanter matchups, I realized that all the enchanter matchups are similar. So writing all the details that you should come up with from playing those champions and Sona is a waste of my time. And engage support matchups are the same as well. I currently don’t have enough time to write out all the engage matchups for now, may or may not add later when I’m waiting in the queue. So here is common rules for all:

with the change of supp items, you can total just use World Atlas stacks on minions instead of trying to poke and die, which is a significant buff for Sona
take Bone Plating if you feel insecure early game
if you think they might cheese lvl 1, Pyke Thresh Nautilus Blitzcrank, ward bot lane first bush lvl 1 before minion spawns, so you can see if they are cheesing
get lvl 2 at the same time or faster, if you are nowhere near lvl 2, ping your ADC off and walk back
stay behind minions at all times if vs hook supports; walk back, out of their hook range if no minions
Dodging their core cc / hook ability is also key, good luck !(* ̄( ̄ *)

If enemy walks toward you, walk back and press Q , so their autos and abilities don’t hit you; your Q out range most of their abilities

One common rule for supports: try to auto the minions with ADC to get lvl 2 first or at the same time, you auto second wave of melee minions that is not close to dying
lvl 2 formula = 1 wave + 3 melees

ALSO, DO NOT BUY CONTROL WARDS. It’s a waste of gold. You cannot defend vs engage supports.

roaming

ideally, you stay in lane to scale and spam ping when enemy support is missing
Sona is a no-cc caster minion before lvl 6, don’t roam till lvl 6
unless your ADC pushed bot lane wave in, reset, and you have nowhere to go for a bit; can go mid lane, poke a bit, and get some stacks gold, and go back to bot lane
or when mid laner is dead, you can go catch the wave if your ADC pushed bot lane wave in, reset, and you have nowhere to go for a bit
walk back in the safest path possible, unless you know where enemy jungler is
you want to sit in a lane during laning phase, instead of walking in the river
matchups - mages

Mage matchups for Sona
-

From writing the enchanter matchups, I realized that all the enchanter matchups are similar. So writing all the details that you should come up with from playing those champions and Sona is a waste of my time. And mage support matchups are the same as well. I currently don’t have enough time to write out all the mage matchups for now, may or may not add later when I’m waiting in the queue. So here is common rules for all:

take Summon Aery, Guardian is easily proc by them
get lvl 2 at the same time or faster, if you are nowhere near lvl 2, ping your ADC off and walk back

Dodging their abilities is also key, good luck !(* ̄( ̄ *)

most mages outrange your Q , but they help stack your W really well after you get

Don’t spam W for health, unless you have , use the shield on W wisely vs mages

If you want them to shove the wave, stand inside minion waves; if you feel you are getting shoved in, stand outside of minion waves; that way they can only pick one between poke and shove
Early helps with dodging abilities a bit
Can take one flat magic resistance if you think they will do more damage than enemy ADC
Have 2 points in W at lvl 5
You can have more than 2 points in Q before finishing all points in W , but you need to have a few points in W for laning sustain as well

One common rule for supports: try to auto the minions with ADC to get lvl 2 first or at the same time, you auto second wave of melee minions that is not close to dying
lvl 2 formula = 1 wave + 3 melees

teamfight positioning & survival
You stand around whoever is the strongest, in a range where your W can reach them, but not as a front line, always as a back line

Think carefully what enemy cc can reach you and result in your death with whose follow up, stay away and dodge the cc, hence you avoid the follow up damage; you can buy to keep your strongest member alive

Think carefully what enemy damage can one shot you, buy defensive items to avoid oneshots; slowly heal back with W in a spot that you can still heal your team and not too far from your team

You can R whoever AD assassin/bruiser is trying to kill to you (with high damage means they are vulnerable) to survive, if you won’t die to them, you don’t really need to R them

You can W chord and whoever is trying to kill you or your backline with burst, kite tanks and bruisers with no slow immune with E chord

You can also save R for whenever their strongest squishies are walking up, till like half into the teamfight when they start trying to clean up, no one would expect your R

You can stand next to ADC, but don’t stand on top of them; at least not in a range where some AOE will hit both of you; it's okay that it hits one of you, but not both

Think about enemy cc & damage ability range, that is the range between you and your ADC; that way, only one of you gets hit, which is a way of peeling
others
help ADC cs under tower & cs under tower is good, I saw a lot of support players don't last hit; gold is good on Sona

if you performed better than your enemy, you will eventually climb

minion waves management is that you want it near your turret vs aggressive matchups; can slowly shove into enemy tower if vs Lulu/ Janna, but need to ward tri bush so that you don't die to ganks

other basic wave managements are probably well explained by others for 1000000 times, it'll take like a 10 min video to explain. I or ttm might make one, but not now.

Sona is a champion that brings miracles, never forfeit

If you enjoy playing league and Sona for fun, forget about this guide. Being good makes you want to win over having fun, which is not fun.

It's a video game afterall.

Thank you the tank man for rune screenshots and always support me. I love you forever.

Thank you khrymzon, somehow you are the second person I thought of besides ttm. Good luck with school!

Thank you escapethefate (icedcoffee~~~~), lakshin, and cbag for the long term twitch chat mental support in the loneliest and hopeless nights, along with khrymzon and pony, somehow you guys are always here ♥♥

And, Mini, I swear NA ladder is so free. Just play on one account, don't worry about wr and mmr, switch between ADC and SUP Sona, and it's all yours.

And everyone else who tolerated and liked my venting tweets :3
About Author
♥♥♥ Hi I'm Jade, in game name: ttv nannersowo / AD Nannies Pref, here is my Sona resume:
NA Sona challenger since s8 (got challenger for Mid/ADC/Support)
3 million Sona points
about 6182 Sona rank games throughout 8 seasons and 7 accounts

In this guide, I want to help everyone learn Sona, get really good at Sona, never lose a single game on Sona, improve Sona winrate to 100%, and take over NA soloq ladder while good support players are in Champion Queue, so Riot can remove Sona from the game and I can withdraw from this video game.
