Introduction

Hello Summoners!
This is my very first guide, which is fitting since the first champ I fell in love with was teemo. He is just the cutest champ out there in my opinion. I prefer the panda teemo cause hes so ninja, though the other skins are just as cute.

Top reason I believe you should choose teemo:

-Huge AP burst damage with this build
-A very successful lane pusher
-Can handicap basic attack champions with Toxic Shot

Other than that please enjoy my guide. Feel free to give feedback in discussion. I only want to improve and I won't know what I need to improve on without your input.

Items

I explained everything for each particular section in their notes. To help you out though I will restate it again in here:

Item Sequence

Berserker's Greaves 1100
Liandry's Torment 3000
Nashor's Tooth 3000
Rabadon's Deathcap 3600
Rylai's Crystal Scepter 2600
Enchantment: Alacrity 450

Starter items

I usually start off with the regular Boots and x3 Health Potions. But if u have a support that can heal you or you feel like you'd lose little health, then I'd go with Mana Potions or an Amplifying Tome.

Liandry's torment

I usually go straight for this item because it gives you health, so you're less squishy. Also, because Liandry's Torment does double damage when the opponent's movement speed is impaired making your Noxious Trap do double damage. It also has a +15 magic penetration passive. You can't go wrong with this item.

Nashor's Tooth (attack speed)

I like getting Nashor's Tooth for my attack speed item because teemo is a basic attack reliant champ and this item has a passive that deals 15 + 15% of your ability power as bonus magic damage. The passive also stacks with the Arcane Blade mastery. So basically, as your AP increases nashor's tooth just gets stronger. It also provides 20% cooldown which is always good for any champ really.

Rabadon's Deathcap

A must have for every ap champ. Not only does it give you 120 ap, but it increases your ap by 25%.

Blue scepter

Around this time everyone is starting to get tanky. So you should try to reciprocate that. This item is good because it slows your opponent and gives you health. The slow is helpful with teemo because you can hit them once and then w Move Quick and seal the kill.

Last item variety

If the game has gotten this far then depending on the situation you should chose your item based on that.

  • Runaan's Hurricane is a better last, or second to last item in my opinion, because of the massive attack speed it gives. You can use it to farm faster since you can hit 3 minions at once. Or you can use to to hit 3 opponents in battle. But more importantly is that you can take turrets super fast. When it becomes a race to the nexus, in those close battles, you can just slip out and backdoor really well.
  • Zhonya's Hourglass isn't usually an item i would get for teemo since once you're caught alone your basically dead if you can't out run them. Zhonya's is just stalling the inevitable. I would only recommend this item if you are always targeted first in battle. You can live long enough to clean up, that is if your team did enough damage without you.
  • Lich Bane is good for the extra basic atk damage after you use your blind. Since you should always be engaging with your blind first, this is helpful to add lots of bonus damage 50(+75% AP) to your next basic attack. Very good for 1v1 battles. Since the passive has a 2 sec cooldown it's basically good no matter what because its so short. If your blind is on cooldown still and you're chasing someone you can use your Move Quick ability and still make use of Lich Bane's passive. Besides the passive it also gives you AP and mana, which is always good, and 5% movement speed, so you're even FASTER!
  • Void Staff is good because it ignore's 35% of your opponent magic resist. I would only recommend this if your opponent's magic resist is high. If its not high then I would just recommend building something that gives you more than 70 AP.
  • Hextech Gunblade is good for the life steal and spell vamp. I only recommend this item because it provides a little hybrid to this build. Otherwise I'd prefer to build something else.
  • Deathfire Grasp is good for the cd and ap. I would only recommend this if you're looking for more cooldown because Zhonya's Hourglass gives you the same amount of AP.

Enchantment

Depending on the situation either one is recommended. Enchantment: Alacrity for the bonus 15 movement speed. Homeguard to help you better protect your base and nexus. Enchantment: Homeguard also helps you to get out to your lane faster. If you're on the offensive team, then I'd go with alacrity, but if you're on the Defensive team then going with homeguard would be a better suit for you.

Final build

Final item whatever you prefer. I personally switch between Runaan's Hurricane, Lich Bane, Zhonya's Hourglass and Void Staff.

Runes

This is a build for top lane where usually you'll encounter an AD champ. In the case that you are mid lane it would be better to get 9 Greater Seal of Magic Resist since you would most likely be fighting an AP champ instead of AD. Other than that, these runes worked well for me and should work well for you too.

Passive

camouflage

Camouflage

If Teemo stands still and takes no actions for 2 seconds, he becomes stealthed indefinitely. After leaving stealth, Teemo gains the Element of Surprise, increasing his attack speed by 40% for 2 seconds.

  • This is most useful for a surprise attack in the beginning.
  • It also will help you escape when being chased. If you can get far enough ahead where your opponent(s) can't see you, just stand still for 2 seconds and they should just step all over you in confusion. When the coast is clear, hopefully that area isn't warded, then you can b back to base. The bad thing though is that you can still be hit while invisible, so it's very important that they don't see where you went invisible.
  • Good for being a permanent ward anywhere on the map.
  • Lastly, you can use this passive to backdoor inhibitors. The good thing about this passive is that you can stay invisible for as long as you want. Unlike Twitch, Evelynn, Rengar, Shaco or Wukong. Although they do have the advantage of being able to move while being invisible. So you can wait on your enemy's base right next to their inhibitor and when the enemy is pushing on the other side of the map, if your team is capable of defending without you, then just attack speed that inhib like theres no tomorrow. The enemy team probably won't notice you til its too late.
Vision Wards and Oracle's Elixir render your passive useless.

Abilities

Blinding dart Obscures an enemy's vision with a powerful venom, dealing 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+80% of ability power) magic damage to the target unit, blinding them and causing all their attacks to miss for 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 seconds.
Tips and Tricks
  • Engaging ability
  • Max this ability out third
  • Has a longer ranged than Toxic Shot and does more damage on-hit
  • Kill stealing move

Move quick Passive: Grants 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 % increased movement speed until struck by a champion or turret. The passive is restored 5 seconds (static cooldown) after last being struck by a champion or turret.

Active: For 3 seconds, Teemo gains double his passive movement speed and will not lose it even if he is hit.

Tips and Tricks
  • Max this ability out last. Teemo is fast as he is without the use of this move, so this move isn't as crucial in my opinion.
  • Useful to run away or catch a fleeing enemy champ
  • Can be combined with Flash, Ghost, Enchantment: Homeguard to get across map faster
  • Use this ability when you're at base to get back to your lane faster. It can be used at least twice before reaching your first outer turret.

Toxic shot Passive: Each time Teemo attacks an enemy, he will poison the target, dealing 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 (+30% of ability power) magic damage on hit and 6 / 12 / 18 / 24 / 30 (+10% of ability power) each second for 4 seconds. The duration of this poison will be refreshed with every subsequent attack, but the damage does not stack.
Tips and Tricks
  • its a passive so you can do a lot of damage poking with this death over time move
  • being a passive it doesn't cost mana
  • get this ability first and max it out first

Noxious trap Teemo places a trap which stealths and arms in 1 second. It detonates if an enemy steps on it, dealing 200 / 325 / 450 (+80% of ability power) magic damage by poisoning nearby enemies and slowing them by 30% / 40% / 50% for 4 seconds. The traps last 10 minutes. Teemo will store one every 35 / 31 / 27 seconds, and can have a maximum of three stocked up. Each cast requires and uses a trap. After death, you respawn with 2 mushrooms.
Tips and Tricks
  • When fighting an enemy use your Blinding Dart first so that his basic attacks miss, then immediately place a Noxious Trap on your opponent's feet.
  • Place in middle of lanes to stop minion waves from advancing so that you can roam the map and still get gold for minion kills
  • Place in bushes to reveal enemy champs should they be in the same bush
  • Use as wards
  • This plus Liandry's Torment=DAMAGE!
  • Place a lot around in the same area so it's basically a mine field
  • Place in commonly walked in paths
  • Always have one placed at baron and dragon
  • I also like to place it out of minion paths, but right on the side so that if a champion is following the minion wave from behind, there is still a chance that the champ will walk into the Noxious Trap
Back to Top

Skill Sequence

Ability Skill Sequence Order

> > >
Just remember this important fact: MAX OUT Toxic Shot FIRST! That would be your e skill. It is your Main damage doer. When ever you can upgrade your R ultimate Noxious Trap (shrooms) you most definitely should; that's how it is for every champion. Then max out your q Blinding Dart and then w Move Quick.

Farming

Teemo doesn't have a hard time with farming, especially when he's mid. He can usually two shot minions. It's very hard to lose the farm to your own minions because of your poison. Your poison almost guarantees you the last hit on those minion farms. I like placing shrooms in the middle of lanes to guarantee that minions hit it because, once your ap is strong enough, one shroom can kill a whole wave of minions and you don't even have to be there. FREE FARM for you haha! If your shroom also hits an enemy champion thats pushing to your turret, EVEN BETTER! Shroom farming is good for protecting lanes while you're at base. It's also good if you're at base and need a little extra gold. A very good farming item would be Runaan's Hurricane because you hit 3 minions at once. Since there is only 7 minions per wave, those minions are gone in a blink of an eye.

Pros / Cons

You can also try this guide at mid or bot too.

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Ranged Champion
+ Master Pokester
+ Basic move reliant
+ Can be in any lane he wants. Not restricted to a particular lane.
+ Teemo is a damage doing support, so can easily be a carry also if adc isn't good.
+ Good bot lane as the apc with a support.
+ Ranged solo top
+ Noxious Trap can help you get assists/kills anywhere on the map without you being anywhere near the fight.
+ Noxious Traps are practically free wards!
+ Move Quick allows for a quick escape or chase down. Teemo is one of the fastest champs in the game.
+ Passive allows you sneak attack enemies or just hide.
+ High resistance to junglers once lvl 6.
+ High nuke potential late game.
+ Good at last hitting minions
+ Fast turret taker because of attack speed.
+ Easy to master!

The pros of having a ranged move as your basic attack is that you can poke, while non-ranged champs can't.

With Noxious Traps you can get assists anywhere on the map without you being anywhere near the fight. Noxious Trap is also a good way to support by giving map awareness without actually buying wards.

Teemo's Blinding Dart allows you to 1v1 any adc and just demolish them that they won't even have time to use their ult. The only way I can see you losing is if you don't play smart or your opponent out tanks you.

If you are solo top, yay you!, cause you get all the minions to yourself just like if you were at mid. I think the advantages of being solo top would be that your opponent probably doesn't have a ranged basic attack so they can't poke away at you. Personally, I have fun poking away at Garen. Some challenging champs would probably be jayce, elise, zyra, a mirror (though with this guide you will probably be more OP), etc. I think pantheon and fiora will be a little difficult too with their dodge or parry; it makes them a lil harder to poke at. Plus at lvl 6 fiora's ult is unfortunately more OP than teemos cause she can't be hit during her ult.

I recommend placing tons of Noxious Traps in mid because it is the most preferred lane to take, so most likely champions will run into it. If they hit enough shrooms they can be nuked to death.

All champions with good attack speed take turrets fast. So if you're left alone long enough in a lane you can take turrets in one go. Destroying turrets is also good for more gold; Giving you more advantage.
Cons

- Squishy low hp champion overall. Especially beginning game.
- Most likely will be targeted because you do so much damage and also because enemy team is probably irritated with you and your Noxious Traps
- Oracle's Elixir or Vision Wards counter his Noxious Traps and passive.
- Can't really initiate well unless they hit a mushroom or you can pick off stragglers
- Range is quite short compared to others.

Beginning game, unless you picked up health runes or a ruby crystal as your first item, you will be very squishy compared to everyone else. This is a reason I buy Liandry's Torment as my first item (besides Berserker's Greaves) because it gives you the little extra health beginning game to not be so vulnerably squishy.

You will most likely be targeted, which is to be expected because the enemy team has to take out the strongest player if they want to have a chance of winning. Also, again teemo is very squishy, which is another reason he'd be most likely targeted. It is your tanks job to try to attracted the damage away from you as best they can.

A smart enemy team would get the loads of Vision Wards or Oracle's Elixir because that'll most likely save them from dying to Noxious Traps when they are running back to base with low life, or its useful just to get rid of the mine fields of [noxious trap]]s. Destroying your Noxious Traps also gets rid of your map awareness. So beware of those two items. If you're lucky the enemy team doesn't want to waste gold on Oracle's Elixir or Vision Wards or upgrading their ward trinket. One advantage though is that you can get rid of Vision Wards by getting an Oracle's Elixir yourself, or killing the enemy champion that has the Oracle's Elixir. That'll put a little stop to that champion. Also, while the enemy is busy trying to destroy your Noxious Traps you can initiate a fight while they are distracted and kill them.

You can see on the map when an enemy champ hits on of your Noxious Traps, so if you're nearby quickly race there, using your Move Quick, to finish them off if they are at low enough health. Most times when an enemy champion hits your Noxious Trap they will try to turn back and retreat to team so play smart and only chase if you are aware of the other enemy team's location.

The last con of playing teemo is that his range isn't as long as compared to other ranged champs. This is where you'll have to use more skill, so that you can hit your opponent without getting hit back. The good thing about your q Blinding Dart is that once your opponent is in range its a guarantee hit (autolock attacks) unlike some adc who have to aim their attacks like Varus or Caitlyn.

Counters

General Counters:
  • Building tenacity
  • Denying farm
  • Hard CC
  • Some form of knock up or stun
  • Reveal Stealth
Counter items:
Weak Against:

Yorick's ghouls make your speed useless. He can poke you with his ghouls and deny you your farm. His ult also will always guarantee he kills you. In most cases a yorick will build tankier than you too. He's almost impossible to run away from. Not even your Move Quick can save you. I would suggest just hugging your turret and farming as much as you can and just wait for your jungler to gank. He can also use his ghouls to clear your Noxious Traps

Pantheon can block basic attacks with his passive Aegis Protection. Since your basically a basic attack champ he counters you a bit. He also has a stun, Aegis of Zeonia. His passive will instantly refresh after he stuns you too. Just try to harass and poke him as much as you can so he'll not want to engage in a fight. Most likely if you 1v1 one him early game you'll die. He is an AD caster, so he doesn't need to basic attack you. His q is also a ranged spear attack so he can poke you back.

This match up can pretty much go either way. It depends really on you dodging his q. This is where teemo's w will come in handy to help dodge. He can jump on you though so watch out for that. Choose wisely when you're last minions, whether or not it will bring you in range of his jump or not. He also has a speed boost so running away won't be as easy. I would say try as much as possible to have him run into one of your Noxious Traps then start fighting him.

Move Quick is negated by Electro-Harpoon and Rumble has his own speed buff with a shield and a huge AP ratio, and he doesn't need to Auto-Attack to kill, so blind is useless. Electro-Harpoon can be cast twice in a row. Thats a lot of slow. He also doesn't use mana so he can out sustain you.

You can probably kill him before he's 6 if you dodge his skills and not get poked to low health. I know because i've done it. He's not really basic attack reliant, so just use your q to poke. He also has a slow and can bush check with his clone. His ult has quite a bit of range so once he disappears place a shroom on your feet, q, ignite, and autoattack. Thats your best chance because you'll pretty much die anyways cause running away will be hard. Might as well try and get a kill for kill.

Once she hits lvl 6 your done. No escape for you. Her cooldowns are also low enough that she won't really rely on her basic attacks to kill you. Being that she's an assassin and teemo's a squishie champ, it will be a difficult lane after lvl 6. Before lvl 6 try to kill her as much as possible because she can't catch you. She also won't be that good at farming because she's not a ranged champion. You can poke her away from farm.

All i can say is hopefully the monkey king is a noob. As soon as Wukong understands that he just has to W-Q-E to win a trade, its over. If he starts walking towards you back off a bit. Just try to last hit minions. Your blind helps a little because once he uses up his skills his cooldown is a little long so he'll be basic attacking you, which is when you would blind and attack him while running away. He can poke you and clone safely away. Don't waste mana on his clone. You'll probably want to buy vision wards to try and counter his combo.

Strong Against:
If you start AP teemo with boots you will automatically win. His W and boots are faster then Garen, so you can poke and run away if he comes after you. If he farms just poke him. He'll probably back up out of your range so that his passive can help heal and sustain him. Just keep poking so that his passive doesn't help him. Try make him go back to base as much as you can to underlevel him. Once he starts getting tanky it will be more difficult of a lane. Garen's ult will demolish you if he gets you low enough.

Tryndamere is extremely easy to kill because usually players jus build critical strike with tryn. He's usually not very tanky. He's a free kill if he has no ult. The only threat I would say about him is that he has a slow and a spin forward to chase you down, but one shroom can slow him down enough for you to escape. He's also a very autoattack reliant champion much like Teemo so just blind him if he's fighting you, then poison burst him to death.

Basically don't ever chase a singed unless you absolutely know you can kill him. Its common sense. Your both poison champs, but you have the advantage of being able to poke him. If you stay out of his poison then he can't do any real damage to you. You can also run away with Move Quick if he tries to toss you. Try placing Noxious Traps where you see him walk often. Just be careful if you're playing against a singed with ghost cause that dude can end up running pretty fast, so make sure you have a shroom ready to place to slow him down.

Just deny him his farm, which is not hard to do since Teemo is ranged and nasus isn't. You can also blind Nasus before he uses Siphoning Strike because his q only buffs his next autoattack. (Active: Nasuss next attack within 10 seconds will deal additional damage. Siphoning Strike permanently gains 3 damage whenever it kills a small minion or monster, and 6 damage whenever he kills a large minion or monster, or enemy champion.) Try to deny him scaling his q by last hitting minions and you should be good. I would guess the only difficult parts about playing against nasus would be that Wither slows your movement speed by 35% and your attack speed by 17.5%. You probably should build the tankier items first, like Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Liandry's Torment because he does have natural life steal from his passive Soul Eater and his ult Fury of the Sands gives him more health and attack.

Just regularly harass Aatrox with your e auto attacks. Never initate! Save your Blinding Dart for his initiation. Aatrox's combo depends on landing his knock-up from Dark Flight. Even if he hits with his slow Blades of Torment, but fails to land the knock-up, Teemo only has to shoot Blinding Dart and get some autoattacks in there. Teemo's regular harassment will prevent Aatrox from regaining health through every third auto attack with his Blood Thirst and guarantees that if Aatrox does try to initiate, he'll be doing so at low health. At this point you will easily out damage him if he stays to fight. Consistently harass and the advantage should always be yours. Basically don't move predictably because then it gives him a better chance of landing his Dark Flight. If Aatrox does land his knock-up, you won't be able to fire your dart and he'll get several auto attacks in before you can. You'll find yourself very low on health and running away. At which point, he would probably use his slow Blades of Torment to seal the kill so try to dodge that as well by using your Move Quick and not running in a straight line.

Shoot-and-move tactics. Don't get knocked up.

Spells

I choose ignite and flash when I play teemo.

Ignite is always good to seal the kill if timed correctly. Sometimes your poison won't last long enough to get the kill. The combined damage of ignite and teemo's poison also help in 1v1 fights.

Flash is always good to get away. Watch out for those ganks! Your shrooms make excellent wards. Flash is also good when your targeted in a team fight; you can just flash out and then when your at a safe distance just join back in the fight and demolish everyone from far away.

In this video it shows how handy a flash escape can be. Just flash out and then shoot from a distance.

Other spells I would recommend:

I would recommend getting either Clarity, Exhaust, Heal, Teleport and Barrier.

With this build there is no item that increases your mana and since Noxious Trap uses quite a bit on mana (especially in beginning game) Clarity will help give you the extra mana to stay in lane a keep gaining experience and gold. Teemo can't really spam his moves in battle, so this is only recommended if you plan on spamming your ultimate.

A nice way to defend yourself against a gank, although with Noxious Trap the slow isn't as useful as our other spell options. This combined with Move Quick will guarantee you getting in some damage to kill.

Recommended if your in a solo lane. It may be a lil "noob", but it can save your life. In a way its like Barrier because it provides you with a little buff to survive. Also be sure to use it in team fights to provide a Heal for your entire team! Like a mini Soraka!

Since you can place Noxious Traps anywhere you want, you can place a shroom anywhere to teleport to. Its useful for helping gank and pushing lanes.

An excellent choice if your being focused. Also good for blocking killing blows from basic attacks.

Spells not recommended:

I would not recommend getting Ghost, Cleanse, Clairvoyance, Revive, and Smite.

This, in combination with teemo's Move Quick, will make you so fast that the enemy will have no chance of escape. It can also be utilized to run across the entire map fast to gank a lane or to save a turret! The reason I don't recommend this item is because I prefer to use Flash than Ghost. Flash can help you catch up with an opponent and help you get out of a fight. You can't really use ghost to get out of a fight if you're in the middle of it.

With teemo being a pretty squishy champion, I wouldn't recommend this because if you're that close to an enemy champ to be disabled, then I'm sorry to say that you're most likely dead.

This is more of a support spell or like champs who need to see somewhere while they hide in the jungle, such as Nidalee or Blitzcrank. Your not a support or one of those champs so this item is basically useless to you. If you need to see somewhere purchase a sight ward or Vision Ward or just place more Noxious Traps cause it helps you save your gold.

Lets face it, it's more useful late game because the revival time in the beginning is tolerable and short enough to handle. But late game, if your team was aced, and if only you have revive, there is not much you can do to protect and defend solo. You'll probably end up dying again anyways if you solo defend late game. I'd say its a GG.

Unless your planning on playing teemo as a jungler, I wouldn't recommend Smite. Teemo kills jungle fairly well without it. If you're looking to kill monsters and minions really fast I would recommend getting Runaan's Hurricane because you can shoot up to 3 minions at once and it gives you a lot of attack speed. But overall, teemo is just not the best jungler out there so I would recommend picking someone else as your jungler.

Shrooming/ Noxious Trap Tricks

Place Noxious Traps in minion paths to stop the lane from being pushed.

Place one Noxious Trap in the bush and one outside. That way its a guarantee hit if they chose to go down that path.

Place shrooms in commonly walked places. Placing Noxious Traps in jungle pathways help keep track of where the enemy jungler is.

Make sure to shroom baron and dragon. They make good wards.

Since you're mid, beware of ganks from the jungler from both sides. I recommend placing three mushrooms in the river bushes just to make sure the jungler hits it, but one mushroom is still good because you can see the enemy in the bush. The only bad thing about one Noxious Trap is that if they don't hit it and you're closer to the enemy turret there is a chance that you might not be fast enough to retreat behind your turret. Hopefully your Flash is not on cooldown!

Make a trail of mushrooms, so if you're being chased you can run that way to safety.
