Introduction

Are you tired of bad Singeds who only tank and don't do any real damage? You've come to the right place. This is my first build guide, so bear with me.

Right now I'm sure there's a certain question on your mind. Go ahead. Ask it.

Why Play Singed?


And it's not a simple question. Why play a champion who specializes in running away from fights?

Singed specializes in being chased. But he also specializes in chasing. He can run from turret to turret without a care in the world, much to the fury and chagrin of your enemies. And when your team's lost a fight and you're the last one left? You pop your Insanity Potion and Ghost and get the hell out of there, because you're untouchable. If the fools happen to chase you, you might just turn around and give them what's coming to them. A well placed Fling and Mega Adhesive will seal their fates.

Summoner Spells

Recommended Summoner Spells


  • Gives you amazing speed.
  • Lets you go through minions to avoid chasers and farm.
  • Synchronizes well with Insanity Potion.
  • There is no game in which you will not benefit from having Ghost with you.
  • Temporary extra health.
  • Synchronizes with Seraph's Embrace. Two shields at once!
  • Great for baiting.

Viable Summoner Spells

  • Makes escaping from you quite literally impossible, and reduces enemy MR and attack speed.


  • Removes all debuffs, allowing for better escapes and making it harder to hold you down.
  • Better escapes through terrain. Personally, I feel Singed has enough crowd control and speed to escape on his own, so I don't use this spell.
  • Global presence. That's what this spell gives you. If you're sure to get fed on top lane, take this spell so you can easily gank other lanes.
  • SINGED, SINGED EVERYWHERE.
  • I've tried using Ignite before, and stacking damage over time with even more damage over time is really effective, especially against opponents who like to disappear from lane just as you're about to kill them.

    ... Rengar.
  • Would replace Barrier.

Don't Take These Spells



  • You're going to have a massive reservoir of mana by the endgame. This spell would only be useful in earlygame, compared to Barrier and Ghost which are always useful.
  • You are not a support. This spell would barely be of any benefit to you. MAYBE if your team has no healing support. Maybe.
  • While map vision is useful, this isn't a very good spell for Singed. It helps him chase by keeping vision of the enemy, but oftentimes he won't need vision, because he's so damn fast he can scour the entire jungle for his target.
  • You should never plan on dying, or count on the fact that you will. Ever.

The Basics of Mana Tank Singed: Items, Skills, and Techniques.

Skills: How Do I Shot Poison?

[*] Empowered Bulwark is your passive. It's pretty simple, for every point of mana you get .25 health. This is the source of your extreme tankiness and sustained poison gas.
[*] Poison Trail(Q) is the ability you'll be dealing most of your damage with. When it's toggled on, it'll consume your mana to expel a cloud of poisonous gas behind you. This is why nobody should chase you.
[*] Mega Adhesive(W), your W, fires a massive goo spill that slows enemies in an area. It's not quite as useful as it could be because it only slows people in the area of effect. However, it's more than enough for Singed's purposes. A properly placed Mega Adhesive can net you or your teammates a kill, or keep you from being killed. If used offensively, you should place it in front of the champion you're chasing, so that the AOE circle isn't quite touching them. If used defensively in the jungle, place it on yourself. If used defensively in a lane, use it the same way you would offensively.
[*] Fling(E) is one of the three abilities that people will hate you for. Once you catch up to your target, you can fling them up over your shoulder, right into your Poison Trail(or your team). A skilled singed can fling enemies over walls to their awaiting teammates; simply position yourself between them and a thin wall, at close distance, and fling!
[*] Insanity Potion(R) is your ultimate. It's an essential steroid, as it is one of the only reasons you can hit people with your E. It boosts almost all of your stats by a large amount.

[*] is an amazing item for Singed. The shield makes him even more ridiculously difficult to kill, allows for amazing baits, and saves you from those nasty global ultimate users, like Karthus, Gangplank, and Draven. It also gives you a ton of AP from all the mana you'll be building, which means all of your damage will skyrocket.
[*] prevent people from escaping from you. Ever. They make you faster than the vast majority of champions, who will be building Mercury's Treads, Sorcerer's Shoes, Ninja Tabi, or some other nonsense. You don't need any of these, because you'll be building a bit MR and Armor as we go along. Throw an enchantment of your choice on these; Enchantment: Homeguard and Enchantment: Distortion come highly recommended. (NOTE: Take Merc's if you're against a generally CC-heavy team.)
[*] is essential. Not only does it give you more health, but it gives you more mana(which means more AP, AD, and health), along with it's bonus AP and unique passive(which is a lifesaver in midgame).

Situational Items

You should build these depending on the situation.
[*] Need MR? Tired of being hit by Morgana's Dark Binding, or those pesky Nidalee spears? Getting grabbed through walls by Blitzcrank? This is the item for you. It blocks one spell, and once you're out of the fight it recharges that shield after a few seconds.
[*] Iceborn Gauntlet seems to not fit Singed at all- it requires him to stop and hit people to make use of it's passive. So why build it? It's simple. It gives you armor. It gives you mana. And, it gives you a second AOE slow. Build it if people seem to like jumping or flashing through your Mega Adhesive.
[*] This item will make you even harder to catch; the only problem with it seems to be that people will stop trying entirely. It causes your poison and fling to slow people, along with your Mega Adhesive.
[*] This item was changed only a few months after I posted the guide. It removed the mana from it, much to my disappointment. Still, since the rest of the build provides plenty of mana, having more isn't too important. That said, Ohmwrecker is a powerful item for getting enemies out from under their tower, while giving you straight health and AP.
[*] After the changes to Ohmwrecker, which removed the mana from it, I've updated the guide to include Frozen Heart. Not only does it cause those pesky AD Carries to do incredibly less damage to you, but the mana and cooldown reduction it brings to the table definitely help you do everything more. More Insanity Potion. More Fling, Mega Adhesive, Poison Trail. More causing your enemies to scream in allchat about how OP Singed is.
[*] Your AP will skyrocket the second you get this item. If you need to do tons of damage, buy this.
[*] gives you a lot of damage for your AP, but it requires you to actually stop and hit things, which isn't always a viable strategy for Singed. It does add a lot of damage to your basic attacks post-fling.
[*] makes Singed so much harder to kill; timed correctly, you can dodge plenty of ultimates and damage that would otherwise annihilate you or finish you off, also allowing you to juke enemies in the middle of the lane by running in a direction they wouldn't expect. It also gives you straight AP and Armor, which can be beneficial against heavy-AD low-MR teams.
[*] Buying this item will make the enemy team focus you. Because if they don't, you'll reduce their MR while doing a boatload of damage to them. It's a good item when the enemy team is stacking MR.
[*]Of note: Other tank items. I'm too lazy at the moment to properly give them all their own descriptions, but Randuin's Omen, Thornmail, Spirit Visage, and Guardian Angel can all be situationally useful for Singed.

Strategy and Technique:

Solotop Earlygame

You should be starting alone on top. When farming, toggle your Q on and off quickly to cause some poison damage while conserving mana. If the other top decides to chase after you, toggle your Q on and run. If they're really bad(or you baited them), you can wait until you're just near the turret, then Fling them into it(If you baited them, use Barrier before Fling). This should score you an early kill.

Solo vs Duo top Earlygame

Stay back near the turret. Fling your opponents into it whenever you get a chance. Don't push too hard. These will keep you from giving up too many kills, and might even net you a lot of them.

Duo Top Earlygame

Help your partner engage with opponents in the turret by running up and Flinging them back with your Poison Trail toggled on. This should cause a lot of early damage, and might even net you an assist or a kill.

If You Get Ganked

The most important thing is not to panic. Activate your Poison Trail, then Mega Adhesive on yourself and run away. If you're having trouble escaping, use Ghost, then Barrier when your health is low. Nine times out of ten you will survive the fight, and if your enemy's jungler is bad you might even score a kill or two!

When Core is up

When your core build of Rod of Ages, Boots of Swiftness, and Archangel's Staff are up, toggle your Poison Trail on and run around in the minions to farm. Not only does this deny your opponent farm(they'll get poisoned when they try), it'll charge up your Archangel's Staff. If your laning opponent tries to run away with low health, activate Poison Trail, Ghost, and Insanity Potion, then throw some Mega Adhesive in front of them. When you catch up, Fling them back into your Poison Trail. Gank mid and bot whenever your laning opponent is dead if they need help.

Teamfights

Here's a few points to help out in teamfights:
  • When falling back, be sure to spread your Poison Trail all over the lane to cause damage to people who are following too closely.
  • If you see the enemy AD Carry( Vayne especially) exposed in front of their team, use Insanity Potion and Ghost to catch them and Fling them back into your Poison Trail.
  • If a teamfight starts, activate your Poison Trail and Insanity Potion and run around in the mix dealing massive damage over time. Activate Mega Adhesive and Ghost if they try to run. Fling the enemy with the lowest health - if your Fling and Poison Trail don't kill them, your teammates will.

    Advanced Singed Techniques:

    I would tell you all about these, but someone's already described them. Credits to InvertedComposer for the video below. To summarize:

    Invisible Poison:

    Setting this up allows you to create a small, invisible puff of your Poison Trail behind you. This can cause damage to anyone chasing you, and isn't easy to notice or avoid.

    Sky Auto Attack:

    If you attack-move while flinging somebody, you'll punch them in midair. This is amazing if you're building Lich Bane or Iceborn Gauntlet, because you'll deal the bonus damage along with the Fling damage, giving you lots of burst.

    Void Toss:

    Great for if you're running through the jungle and need to shake a particularly sticky enemy off of you. Standing in a straight line between an enemy and the wall, then Flinging them should toss them through it. You can also do this with things like the Blue Buff Golem, if you need practice(or want to toss the golem over the wall to your team).

The runes you take are very important. I take Quintessence of Movement Speed because they increase your speed by quite a bit, which is important. You need to be able to move faster than any other champion; with these, the only champion you'll have trouble catching is Master Yi, maybe Rammus. Seal of Armor and Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist are both good for tankiness, since you won't have much of either until mid-late game. Mark of Magic Penetration allows you to avoid building magic penetration in favor of pure tankiness and damage.

Synergy

Singed works well with:

  • Teemo. Teemo's poison and speed synergize with Singed to make a deadly combo. Teemo can often hide in the brush near a turret and wait for Singed to Fling an enemy, who Teemo will then Blinding Dart and shoot repeatedly. This will almost always result in a kill.
  • Anyone with a bind.
  • Ashe. No escape from Ashe's Frost Shot when Singed is there. Mega Adhesive will make them even slower, and Fling will get them right back into Ashe's range.
  • Anyone with a pull( Blitzcrank) or taunt( Shen).

Singed works poorly with:

  • Anyone whose abilities have incredibly high knockback. ( Alistar, Syndra)
  • Anyone that moves really fast all the time. I'm looking at you, Kennen. Singed's speed comes in bursts, so he can't easily team up with anyone more mobile than he is.

FAQ

Q: Why wouldn't you take Rylai's Crystal Scepter, and stack it with Liandry's Torment?
A: While I can see it being useful, it's not necessary when you have Ghost and Boots of Swiftness. I'd also have to sacrifice Ohmwrecker and Banshee's Veil, which I believe are much better on Singed.

Q:Would Singed make a good bot support?
A:No. While he's good at isolating the ADC and support, one wrong Fling will cause the death of Singed or his ADC. He's also very dependent on his CS to get items.

Q:What about mid?
A:He would have to play very defensively in mid, because most traditional mids outrange and outdamage him. The most mobile champs also tend to go down the middle lane.

Q:OMG! This enemy singed is wrecking my team, how do I fight him?
A:Don't chase him very far. If you're in ranked, Vayne will do very well against him because of her %damage on Silver Bolts. If you need to shut him down, use your team's stuns and binds on him and smash him to pieces. Use Flash to get over walls and away from him(NOTE: This might not work if you flash into your base. He'll charge past the turrets.

Blade of the Ruined King on your AD carry will shut down Singed, as will Liandry's Torment and Rylai's Crystal Scepter on your AP carry.

Use any non-ultimate Crowd Control to keep him from running into your team. This includes Light Binding, Dark Binding, Wither(This one in particular shuts him down), Condemn, etc.

Singed can be incredibly powerful when used properly. I hope that in reading this guide you've learned the proper way to play Singed. He is both a tank and an AP. Not either/or.
