Season 10.14 Azir Mid Lane Guide [In-Depht Matchups]

Azir is a battle and control mage who should be played in the mid lane. He is a SCALING champion, weak from the start, and gets stronger as the game goes on.

He is one of the most difficult champions in League, be prepared for a nice ride.

I like to play Azir very aggressively, securing lane priority and scoring kills. Why? Because the meta is all about the laning phase. There are some games where it may end 50 minutes, but they usually end 30-40 minute mark. I kit Azir for the laning phase because he's already good at late game, so might as well make his laning phase easier.

Learn to be more aggressive. The meta does not reward those who sit mid and farm for 30 minutes.
STOP SPAMMING Q. A Q damage is the same as a soldier auto attack, but for 30 extra mana, almost 2x more.
Learn to kite, his playstyle is very similar to an ADC's, playing back and dealing damage.

Nashors VS Ludens
With prescence of mind, Azir doesn't really need ludens for the mana.

Nashors gives everything that Azir needs. (Attack speed, Ability Power, and Cooldown reduction.) The item is literally made for Azir.

no. stop. Building both, while it does feel good, really screws your late game. Ludens is a very expensive item and it only gives you... AP and CDR? Definitely not worth the price as it delays your other important items such as pen, dcap, zhonyas, grievous wounds.

W E Q to target location (Q before you hit your soldier.)

Transcendence > Absolute focus
Absolute focus sucks ***. If you want more damage just get more cdr lmao. CDR on Azir is VERY important, allows faster soldier spawn and quicker soldier repositioning. (REMEMBER THAT YOUR SOLDIERS ARE YOUR ONLY SOURCE OF DAMAGE)

Conqueror VS Lethal Tempo:
Both, great runes and scale really well. However, conqueror is just better during early and mid game. Lethal tempo is hands down the best rune for late game, but is very inconsistent. You can damage someone, and boom there goes your Lethal Tempo, on cooldown. Conqueror is just more consistent and better in the early stages of the game. If they have lots of tanks, then sure, lethal tempo might be a better pick.

Hail of Blades VS Electrocute:
After the new changes for Hail of Blades, it makes it one of the best runes for Azir, outshining Electrocute. Hail of Blades just deals more damage than Electrocute AND is in a shorter cooldown.

Cheap Shot VS Taste of Blood VS Sudden Impact
If you take sudden impact you're trolling so you probably brought omnistone.
Cheap Shot isn't actually that bad. It's pretty good against lanes that you won't get poked (position well idiots). An example is when going against Katarina.
When in doubt, take ToB.

Ravenous is meh. It's healing is meh. I'd rather have movement speed to help me get to lane faster, rotate faster, and steal blue buffs. You can also go ultimate hunter, but like tbh I'd rather go ravenous lol.

Ghost Poro?
Not that bad, the extra 30 AP isn't something to laugh about, you'll most likely stack it fully at the mid game, where he should have 2 items, and that's basically his power spike.
The only matchup that I would bring Electrocute is against Leblanc.

Scorch? Why not Gathering Storm?
Scorch is for the laning phase. It does a quite considerable amount of damage early on. Why make Azir's already so strong late game stronger? Why not just make him more dominant in the lane, which is where his weakest point is?

Sorc Shoes > Berserker
No explanation, only time that building berserkers would be fine is when the enemy team are hard stacking HP so liandries + berserkers can help.

What do I build first? Death Cap or Zhonyas?
That's something you have to ask yourself. Do you pop easily? Get a zhonyas. Are they filled with armor/are they a dive comp? Get zhonyas. Are you relatively safe? Does your team peel well for you? Get death cap.

Why not finish Morello?
For the extra 1,4000 gold it's better to start on Zhonyas or Death cap. Unless they have a soraka, sona, vladimir, fed person who uses lifesteal, don't rush it. You already have the magic pen anyways. Finish it after death cap or zhonyas, depending on the enemy composition.

Why Liandries+Rylais?
Currently right now, tanks are pretty strong. And what's the best way to deal with them? By doing % of HP and slowing them of course. With Rylais, it makes Liandries so much better and gives you +600 HP. (with morello, Azir can have 3k HP as a battle mage xD)
