INTRODUCTION


1 MILLION MASTERY

Hi guys! My summoner name is ARTHEO BE^R (God King Bear). I am a Volibear one trick. Welcome to my guide where I will always be updating my latest runes and builds forSolo Top and jungle based on whatLeague of legends makes each patch this season.

I started playing Volibear around season 2 mostly with friends for a long time until I decided to step up and play ranked when I had more free time. I made it to gold rank in Season 9 with just playing Volibear. RIP old VOLIBEAR you'll be missed, but its time to show how badass you can be!

RUNES


STANDARD RUNES

I consider these best standard runes for Volibear because of his ability to dive towers with Stormbringer and Demolish which makes him an absolute monster + collecting turret plates is a big part of laning. You want as much gold and pressure on the map so go be a Ohmwrecker!

Since Volibear's best stats is survival, Conditioning really helps him through out the game adding in more resistance on top of his items.

Unflinching gives you a decent amount of tenacity early game when Volibear's health drops and when you're healing with Frenzied Maul and Spirit Visage, the maximum tenacity comes in handy to keep moving.


SOLO TOP KEYSTONE

Grasp of the Undying keystone resembles Volibear's claws of death, which also deals magic damage. The main reason why this is good on Volibear is because he scales with health given his best stat is survival. Increasing his maximum health is the key to playing Volibear at his best. Not just for himself, but also for the team.


JUNGLE KEYSTONE

I consider this the best jungle keystone for Volibear which resembles the thunder crashing down on mortals. Aftershock helps him survive much longer and dive enemies under their tower with Stormbringer. Aftershock scales with health, armor, and magic resist. Probably the most suitable rune for Volibear since it activates when he immobilizes his target when ganking, gaining resistance, and bursting magic damage around him that scales on health.

SECONDARY RUNES

Increases his mobility after casting a summoner spell. This pairs well with Ghost because it gives it a boost and allows you to run through minions and reach your target quickly. If you kill your target Ghost will extend its duration. Also works well with Chilling Smite, slowing the target while you boost up with mobility.



Volibear focuses on health and resist items early game preparing for teamfights in the mid to late game. Once he completes his core tankiness items, he will focus on building damage. Gathering Storm gives you damage every 10 mins of the game and it only grows stronger the more the game goes on. The more damage you have the more you will deal with Guinsoo's Rageblade and Iceborn Gauntlet's spellblade: Sheen.

Not to mention, Gathering Storm is very fitting for Volibear's character! He is the GOD OF STORMS after all.



Heal at the start of your first ability, which is usually Q Thundering Smash. Both benefit from attack damage, which pairs well with W Frenzied Maul's and Ravenous Hunter's healing. Increased with Revitalize and Spirit Visage.



Heal from your abilities the more CDR you have. Increased with Spirit Visage and healing abilities like Frenzied Maul. Death's Dance is incredible with this rune.

This rune is also very fitting for Volibear's character resembling W Frenzied Maul's bite.

SPELLS

RELENTLESS

STRATEGY
As long as the enemy's health is low, Ignite increases your chances to execute with Frenzied Maul. Ghost is great vs champions that build Phage like Garen and Darius. Use Ghost to stick to your enemy since they usually can't Flash very far if they are slowed by Sky Splitter Best way to use this is when they are pushing the wave into your turret giving you a 12-second window before they can escape to their turret. This is also really good in team fights if you kill your target, it will extend ghost timer and keep you moving onto the next target. I prefer Ghost over Flash because Volibear's weakness is sticking to his enemies and being easily kited.


QUICK PLAY

STRATEGY
This can be used in situational matches usually against champions that haves skill based CC like bind, snare, root, and gate. Flash combo with Thundering Smash allows you to quickly jump on them after their ability goes on cooldown. Always make sure you have your abilities before using Flash. This also combos well with Volibear's ultimate Stormbringer dodging multiple CC.


SUMMONED

STRATEGY
I love the movement speed combo of these two spells together is really helpful when your team needs you. If you're a team player, this is a lot of fun on Volibear.


STANDARD

STRATEGY
These are the standard spells that most top laners use. I personally find it boring, but you do you. I would say Flash allows you to make some plays over walls when Teleporting in to help your team.

CHILLED RUSH

STRATEGY
My favorite spells for jungle slowing enemies when I gank with Chilling Smite activating the extra movement speed from Nimbus Cloak in addition if I need more movement speed Ghost will help you gain even more mobility to run laps around your enemies or dive them.

CHILLING IMPACT

STRATEGY
Using Chilling Smite to reduce their movement while you Flash through walls to escape the enemy team can be useful when taking the enemy jungler's buffs or monster camps. Thundering Smash's stun + Flash gives you a great quick play for your teammates to secure a kill and Chilling Smite ensures they can't get away.
PLAY-STYLE

ON-HIT TANK BUILD STRAT
CORE ITEMS




STRAT:
Goal is to build double Doran's Rings with Corrupting Potion to give you burst magic damage and increase shield with E Sky Splitter. Your on-hit hybrid damage from Volibear's basic attacks and passive: The Relentless Storm, which deals increased damage from Doran's Ring's ability power. Volibear's passive: The Relentless Storm, E Sky Splitter, and R Stormbringer deal magic damage.

Sitting on double Doran's Rings while you build Sunfire Aegis which deals magic damage around you and even more when you immobilize the target with Q Thundering Smash. This is the best strat against close range melee champions like Renekton Garen Darius and etc.

For jungle is very similar tank build, but you won't have on-hit damage until you finish your core tank items and build Guinsoo's Rageblade. Early game focuses on being tanky and diving towers early with your team.

For this build/rune strat these are the ideal core items to build in every game and I'm going to tell you why.

is the ideal boots to have on Volibear to have that extra mobility over your enemies when chasing them or kiting them around until your abilities are off cooldown.

I feel this is a good balance of having tenacity from Unflinching while still having mobility.

This pairs well with Nimbus Cloak.

Also pairs well with items like Dead Man's Plate Trinity Force and also movement impairing items like Iceborn Gauntlet Frozen Mallet and Turbo Chemtank


is the best armor health item for Volibear since it synergies well with his passive The Relentless Storm and the ability power from his starting items: Doran's Ring. Dealing lightning chain + bonus magic damage with Sunfire Aegis's magic damage aura and not to mention the additional magic damage from Sky Splitter, which has a shield that increases with ability power. His ultimate has ability power scaling as well. This calls for an early strong burst of magic damage and tankiness to dive in for the kill under towers since Stormbringer is immune to the tower for a few secs.

Sunfire Aegis's magic damage scales with health items, which is why I consider this a very strong first item. Not only that, Volibear scales with health items more than any other stats. His W E and R scale with health. Volibear's strength is survival, so health plays a big role with this champion. The more health he has, the stronger Sunfire Aegis's damage will be and his abilities that scale with health.

Runes that go well with this item are Grasp of the Undying Aftershock Demolish Conditioning.

Grasp of the Undying increase maximum health, which is really good with Sunfire Aegis.

Items that make this item scale is Abyssal Mask Warmog's Armor Spirit Visage Dead Man's Plate Frozen Mallet Thornmail Sterak's Gage Titanic Hydra Turbo Chemtank and Trinity Force

Items that pair well Iceborn Gauntlet Guinsoo's Rageblade



Similar to Sunfire Aegis, but without armor. This is why I tend to build Turbo Chemtank right after to have armor since it is cheap to buy with mobility active and slow. Then I build Spirit Visage right after that. This completes your core jungle/tankiness build.

Magic damage burn aura helps clear the monster camps faster with The Relentless Storm magic damage chain.


I consider this also a good first item especially when you are vs AP top laners. If you are not, this makes the best secondary item mainly because Sunfire Aegis scales with more health and Frenzied Maul's heal would be increased, which makes his chances of surviving much greater and difficult for enemies to kill him.


Volibear's power spike is with this item because it pairs well with his passive: The Relentless Storm and his basic attacks dealing hybrid damage. Guinsoo's Rageblade double procs it and deals armor and magic penetration.

Pairs well with Titanic Hydra which also double procs the damage. Guinsoo's Rageblade also pairs well with sticking power items like Iceborn Gauntlet, Frozen Mallet, and righteous glory giving you more on-hit damage chances.



CDR-SUSTAIN BUILD STRAT
CORE ITEMS




STRAT:
Goal is to build double Doran's Blades with Corrupting Potion to give you damage and sustain. W Frenzied Maul and Q Thundering Smash benefit greatly from damage. Once you buy Sheen you will out damage your enemy top laner every time. Once you complete your first item Iceborn Gauntlet, you'll have enough CDR to constantly use your abilities and heal from them thanks to Ravenous Hunter. That is increased once you complete Spirit Visage and Death's Dance. Maxing your CDR to 40.

For jungle the strategy is the same starting with damage and sitting on Ruby Crystal or Kindlegem while you build Iceborn Gauntlet for the CDR and damage.gives you CDR and damage, which is much more ideal for this rune/build strat.

This strat is great against champions that have a bit of range to them like Urgot Mordekaiser Gnar and etc.
