Introduction

Hey there, welcome to my Jungle Kai'Sa guide! I go by the name of Tinjus on the Oceania server. I'm a S6-S7 Challenger Kha'Zix main who fell in love with Kai'Sa's kit and as a result play a lot of her. This guide will be going in depth with everything you need to know about Kai'Sa and her jungling capabilities which can be a massive amount of fun and very potent if played correctly.

As I'm a Kha'Zix main, Kai'Sa immediately caught my eye as shes from the Void, can jungle, and most importantly can EVOLVE. Her evolutions aren't as sophisticated as Kha'Zix but they do make for an exciting, satisfying experience when it comes to powerspiking and fighting with them. As someone whos been getting used to playing AD carry champs, Kai'Sa is essentially a dream come true as it combines everything i love about Kha'Zix with the kit of an AD carry. Using Kai'Sa's kit effectively and patiently is the key to succeeding with her, and at the end of the guide, thats what I aim to teach you. Ready to go? BEGIN SCROLLING!

About Kai'Sa

Possessing a kit that scales very well into the game with items, Kai'Sa is a close range (500 range YIKES) AD carry that can play a variety of positions in a team composition, with this guide being about Jungle. Kai'Sa is very flexible in what she can provide for the team as she is able to burst very hard and on top of that, has fantastic DPS. She can even go AP! Although this guide will focus mainly on her AD builds as they are more effective.

Kai'Sa's strength depends on your decision making as a jungler and AD carry, as well as your patience when using her abilities. Kai'Sa is not a champion in which you simply spam all your buttons and hope everything works out. You need to be playing her smart as she is an extremely squishy AD carry with small range and somewhat restricted mobility tools. A good Kai'Sa player needs to be effective at kiting as an AD carry, while using their abilities at the right moment in order to avoid damage and maximise your own damage.

"Look closely, and your prey will show you how to kill it"

Similar to Kha'Zix, Kai'Sa's damage can vary if the enemy is not Isolated due to her Q ability. Trying to fight an enemy without you both being isolated can significantly reduce your chances of winning the fight. As Kai'Sa you need to pay close attention to the position of yourself and the enemy team, as your damage output will be determined by these factors, and on top of that you'll need to use your abilities at the right time (specifically your E and R) in order to avoid taking too much damage, as Kai'Sa is very squishy.

Runes

Your rune page for Kai'Sa is very simple. Fleet Footwork is the optimal choice for Kai'Sa as it assists with her mobility and kiting. It also provides a good amount of lifesteal later into the game which is useful as you typically don't build many life steal items as Jungle Kai'Sa. You can also choose to run Press the Attack but in my opinion the speed boost and small healing effects of Fleet Footwork are much more efficient and useful for Kai'Sa.

The lesser runes for the rest of the precision tree are self explanatory. Triumph is the only option for her in the first branch, Legend: Alacrity is the best for ADCs, and Coup de Grace synergises with your passive.

For the secondary tree we take Sorcery, and run Celerity for extra bonus movement speed as well as Waterwalking when in the river. This is important for Kai'Sa being an ADC jungler, as her base movement speed is low and these move speed buffs help her with that.

Items

This section will go over items. Kai'Sa has a lot of options to choose from in terms of items, but there are only a select few builds and setups that are very powerful on her. We'll be going over them now.

Essential Items

Bloodrazor: Skirmisher's Sabre

This is somewhat self explanatory, because Kai'Sa uses lots of auto attacks but there's a bit more to it than that. Kai'Sa has a special evolution concept similar to Kha'Zix but instead of evolving with levels you evolve by purchasing specific stats. You need 100% attack speed to evolve your E, and bloodrazor provides half of that, meaning you can buy Berserker's Greaves + another dagger and have a quick E evolution in the early game. This is incredible for Kai'Sa because it increases her dueling potential tremendously with that invisibility. If attack speed was not such an important stat for Kai'Sa, then we would be considering Enchantment: Warrior for a harder hitting Q and autos, but bloodrazor is just too good to pass up as you really need to get that E evolve.

Berserker's Greaves

Similar to what I said with Skirmisher's Sabre - Bloodrazor, buying the attack speed jungle item with attack speed boots + a dagger will give you a quick E evo. If you choose not to buy these boots, then your E evolve will be delayed until your next attack speed item. So, I recommend always buying these boots.

DPS Items (Crit)

Statikk Shiv

This will typically be your next item after your jungle item and boots. Statikk Shiv provides a good amount of attack speed as well as burst, and builds from the extra Dagger that you bought to get your E evolution. Its cheap and gives a nice little powerspike while setting you up for a high DPS crit build.

Infinity Edge + Essence Reaver

You will typically buy these after Statikk Shiv to build up the crit chance, but also to get your Q evolution. Buying 2 AD crit items means your autos hit hard, but your Q hits even harder because of the good AD scaling and the evolution. You typically want to buy Infinity Edge to start dishing out higher damage autos faster, then build straight into Essence Reaver. However, if you're very ahead, you can buy Essence Reaver first as the utility will help you more than higher damage.

Tank Shred Items

Blade of the Ruined King

Normally I would not consider this item under any circumstances in the jungle on Kai'Sa. Its much better suited on lane Kai'Sa to help her get through laning phase. However, it DOES in fact make for quite a potent tank shredding item, so if you find yourself struggling against really tanky enemies, this item can be built after your attack speed boots.

The Black Cleaver

This item is actually insanely strong on Kai'Sa as it provides a good amount of health, CDR and a movespeed passive. But the most notable reason is because you can instantly get 6 stacks of its armor shred passive off on an enemy by using your Q on them. This is amazing in order to maximise damage against tanks and should be taken if you need to kill them.

Situational Items

Kai'Sa has a bunch of situational items that a fairly useful. Items such as Mercurial Scimitar will help you against heavy CC, Maw of Malmortius will protect you against AP threats and Guardian Angel is fantastic for keeping yourself alive. You are an important target and anything that will help keep you alive is a great item choice.

Alternatively you can pick situational offensive items such as Youmuu's Ghostblade, as its active synergises well with your E and is good for assassination. You can also opt for Hextech Gunblade which provides fantastic burst, as both your Q and W damage scale with both AD and AP. However, i typically would not buy these offensive situational items until you have at least Statikk Shiv and Infinity Edge. I would also not buy them against tanks.

Last but most certainly not least, we have Guinsoo's Rageblade. Now the passive may seem appealing for Kai'Sa as it will let her proc her passive faster, but in reality its just not that good compared to other items. Yes, you do get both AD and AP which is nice + the passive of it, but the build path is terrible and you should really value the critical strike items more as they provide way more damage per auto attack. You should not be relying on your passive damage as the majority of your damage comes from your regular auto attacks.

Skill Sequence / Explanation + Spells

Living Weapon - Passive

Kai'Sa's auto attacks, Void Seeker and nearby allies' hard CC apply stacks of plasma. Applying 5 stacks of plasma deals % missing health magic damage. Additionally, Kai'Sa's auto attacks deal extra magic damage on hit, with this damage increasing per plasma stack. ADDITIONALLY, Kai'Sa can evolve her abilities upon reaching 100 of a certain stat (100 AD for Q, 100 AP for W, and 100% attack speed for E).

Kai'Sa's passive brings loads of mixed damage to her kit. She is able to dish out hard hitting physical autos as well as a bit of magic damage on the side, making it very hard to itemize against her. Plasma stacks are fantastic for finishing off and shredding targets due to the % missing health. On top of that, her evolutions are very potent powerspikes.

Icathian Rain - Q

Kai'Sa shoots out 6 missiles that are evenly distributed among nearby enemies, dealing physical damage. Minions below 35% health take double damage and non minions only take 30% damage from subsequent missiles. Evolved Icathian Rain requires 100 AD and fires 12 missiles instead, thereby increasing it's damage.

This is your standard burst ability that needs to be used at the right time in order to maximise damage. You need to try to be using this when the enemy has no allies around them in order to get all of your missiles onto them for maximum damage (when they are isolated). If you are looking for assassinations, Q is going to help immensely if the target is by themselves.

Void Seeker - W

Kai'Sa fires a long range projectile that stops at the first enemy hit and deals magic damage, while also applying True Sight and applying 2 stacks of plasma. Evolved Void Seeker requires 100 AP and applies 3 stacks of plasma instead of 2, while refunding 50% of the cooldown.

This ability is fantastic to round out Kai'Sa's kit, as it provides a nice chunk of damage, plenty of plasma stacks and can also be used as tool for catching out targets in conjunction with Killer Instinct. Void Seeker is very important to hit to apply those stacks of plasma which increases your DPS. It is also fantastic when fighting against invisible champions since it will reveal them. Overall, you want to be hitting this as often as you can. As for the evolved version, it is unlikely that you will be evolving this ability unless running an AP build, which is not covered in detail in this guide. However, there is a basic AP build which I have created at the top of this guide if you are wanting to try it out. Otherwise, AD DPS builds are more effective in the jungle.

Supercharger - E

Kai'Sa charges up for 1.5 seconds and during charge up, gains bonus movement speed but cannot attack. After charging, she gains bonus attack speed for 5 seconds. The charge up time decreases down to 0.75 seconds and bonus movespeed increases up to 100% based on your bonus attack speed. Evolved Supercharge requires 100% bonus attack speed grants 0.5 seconds of invisibility during charge up.

This ability is absolutely crucial to Kai'Sa. Not only does it increase her DPS with the attack speed, but its essentially your only mobility outside of Killer Instinct, and it is essential that you use this ability at the right moments to not only maximise your DPS, but also to gap close and avoid damage as much as possible. This is the ability that separates good Kai'Sa players from bad ones. I cannot stress how important it is to use this ability wisely. Furthermore, once you have this ability evolved (which you almost always will relatively early into the game), the invisibility it grants becomes absolutely imperative in ensuring that you stay alive, and it also makes for a very useful outplay tool. Learning how to utilise the invisibility granted from E will distinguish you from a regular Kai'Sa player to a Kai'Sa God.

Killer Instinct - R

Kai'Sa dashes at an extremely fast speed near an enemy marked with plasma and grants herself a shield for 3 seconds.

So this ability isn't exactly the flashiest ultimate out there but its something that is actually very important for Kai'Sa's identity and playstyle. Hunting down targets and appearing out of no where is one of Kai'sa's specialties, and this ability helps tremendously with that. You can pair it in conjunction with Void Seeker to pick off targets, but be careful when jumping in, as you don't really have a way out of the fight after you use it. Don't ever jump into multiple enemies at once, as that basically ensures your death. Instead, be patient with this ability, and use it for the shield, to close the gap or to assassinate given the opportunity.

Skill Order

You typically want to max Q first as it helps Kai'Sa's mediocre early game with AOE jungle clearing and dueling. Max E second as the attack speed will increase your DPS. You can choose to put 1-2 points into W after maxing Q to increase your burst a little bit, but otherwise go straight to maxing E. W last.
