Unconventional ways to have fun in League

By Tauricus2017
Introduction
Hello everyone
My name is Tauricus and today I am going to be your conductor through out Unconventional ways to have fun in League of Legends. This guide will feature many ideas on how to have fun even after all those years you spent in this game. Featuring mainly new game modes but also tricks and tips to do in standard games. So stay a while and listen until the very end.
Custom Game Modes
In League of Legends we currently do not have many game modes we can play, since Blood moon, Ascension and those rotating game modes 'rotated' out. Right now, there is only ARAM, Draft pick, Blind pick and TFT (which isn't really League of Legends-ish anyway). Luckily for you, I explored a lot of new ways to play League and want to share my knowledge.

HIDE AND SEEK

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 3 (2 hiders and 1 seeker)
Players recommended: 7 is recommended (5 hiders and 2 seekers)
Forbidden items: Guardian Angel
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: NONE
Special rules:
  • Hiders are not allowed to kill or directly damage seekers.
  • Hiders can use CC (slow, stun, root, silence...) spells and CC autoattacks at their enemies. Those spells can do damage as long as they don't kill the seeker.
  • Hiders are allowed to use shield and heal spells
  • Only up to 2 hiders can apply CC to 1 seeker at one time to prevent the game from perma locking the seeker out of the game
  • Each hider has 5 lifes (can be customized). When they are killed they lose 1 life. Once they reach 0 they are out of the game.
  • Hiders can not recall or walk to a base
  • Hiders cannot hide in range of Turrets
  • Seekers have to recall when their health reaches 200 or lower
How to play:
At the beginning of the game the hider team spreads out around the map. Once the timer reaches 2:00 the seeker team can leave fountain and start hunting down hiders. If seekers can kill all hiders lives in certain time limit (40 minutes is recommended) they won.

RPG WARS

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 4 (2 from each region)
Players recommended: 10 (5 from each region)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: Wide champion pool
Special rules:
  • Each team can only contain champions from 1 region or social group from League of Legends universe.
  • For example: Only Deamcia champions like Lux, Garen, Vayne, etc. in team 1, against only Noxus champions like Darius, Swain, LeBlanc, etc. in team 2.
  • You can even simulate some epic moments of League of Legends history (like a Noxian Invasion on Ionia) or create some pretty cool stories

How to play:
Play just like you would play a normal 5v5 game on Summoner's rift but try to add a bit spice to it. It is recommended for everyone to even 'play' their champion in chat, allchat or Voice room! It can be incredible fun to participate in those dialogs...

Ally Garen: Prepare to die! Katarina!! (Hey... I will be waiting for you in in bottom river bush, come alone)
Enemy Katarina: Hah you wish!! (Don't forget to bring 2x Total Biscuit of Everlasting Will with you my dear <3)
Ally Lux: -_-
Ally Garen: (nervous laugh)

PROTECT SORAKA BOT

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 2 (2 BOT queens and 2 slaves)
Players recommended: 8 (2 BOT queens and 8 slaves)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: NONE
Special rules:
  • Each team has to contain 1 Soraka bot
How to play:
Each team consists of X (at least 1) players and 1 Soraka bot. The game goes like a normal summoner's rift game. The first team who kills enemy Soraka 10 times (you can adjust this number before the start of the game) wins the game.

CATCH THE TEEMO

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 4 (1 Teemo, 1 protector, 1 catcher)
Players recommended: 10 (1 Teemo, 4 protectors, 5 catchers)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: 1 Player has to own Teemo
Special rules:
  • Protecting team has to contain 1 Teemo and 4 other champions of any kind
  • Catching team has to contain 5 champions of any kind except Teemo
  • Teemo can not leave jungle, recall, pass through turrets or to second part of the jungle. Everyone else is allowed to do that.
  • Teemo has to keep moving in order to make Guerrilla Warfare never activate
How to play:
The goal of the team, featuring Teemo is to make him survive. They can attack or kill the other team, but most importantly protect the Teemo. The goal of the second team is to kill the Teemo twice. They are allowed to attack other guys in Teemo's team as well though. This game mode is tons of fun and allows you to kill Teemo.... You know what to do....

ULTIMATE BRAVERY

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 2 (1 in each team)
Players recommended: 10 (5 in each team)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: NONE
Special rules:
  • You have to follow EVERYTHING, including role, champion, item order, summoner spell order, ability max order, etc.
  • The detailed rules are here, featuring all you need to know and obey.
How to play:
First you need to visit (together with your friends) this website. Click on the Let's go button on the top-right of the page. Now make a custom 5v5 game with your friends and follow EVERYTHING that has been shown to you. If you do not have that certain champion, feel free to reroll or deselct champions you don't own. Try it out, it is tons of fun and I can confirm that Thornmail Lulu is beyond broken and should be nerfed -_-

DOMINATION

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 4 (2 in each team)
Players recommended: 10 (5 in each team)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: At least 1 player has to own Skarner
Special rules: How to play:
Play like in regular team vs team pvp game. But your main focus should be Threads of Vibration. Once your team has all 4 Threads of Vibration captured at once, you win the game. Go on, play a regular Domination in League of Legends with our favorite crystal scorpion!

DODGEBALL

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 2 (1 in each team)
Players recommended: 10 (5 in each team)
Forbidden items: EVERY ITEM EXCEPT Control Ward
Forbidden champions: CHAMPIONS WITH NO SKILLSHOTS
Special requirements: At least 1 player has to own Skarner
Special rules: How to play:
Play like in regular team vs team pvp game. But your main focus should be Threads of Vibration. Once your team has all 4 Threads of Vibration captured at once, you win the game. Go on, play a regular Domination in League of Legends with our favorite crystal scorpion!

WARD CONTROL

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 2 (1 in each team)
Players recommended: 6 (3 in each team)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: A really good Ward skin!
Special rules:
  • All players have to buy 2 Control Wards each at the start of the game.
  • Players of the 1st team have to place their 1 Control Ward in roughly the same spot on the map (viz image of Team 1)
  • Players of the 2nd team have to place their 1 Control Ward in roughly the same spot on the map (viz image of Team 2)
  • You have to keep the second Control Ward in your inventory and use it, once your 1st Control Ward gets killed to 'restore' 1 life to your team
  • The first time all Control Wards of one of the teams are destroyed, the team who killed them wins the game.
  • You are not allowed to buy more Control Wards later in the game.
How to play:
Play like in regular team vs team pvp game but have each member of your team place 1 Control Ward like on the image below. Then your goal is to kill every Control Ward your team has, while protecting yours. There are many different strategies to go for. Should we attack all in? Should we keep 2 players here to protect while sending 3 to attack? Should we make a wall teamcomp of Anivia + Azir? Options are endless here!

WARD HUNT

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 2 (1 in each team)
Players recommended: 8 (4 in each team)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: A really good Ward skin!
Special rules:
  • All players have to buy 1 Control Ward each at the start of the game.
  • Every player has to place that 1 Control Ward anywhere on the map (except places like Turret area, Base and fountain)
  • After every player hid their control ward, everyone has to recall
  • At the same time all players have to leave the base and destroy all control wards of the opposing team.
How to play:
Play like in regular non-pvp game but have each member of your team place 1 Control Ward anywhere on the map (except those impossible places). Then after every player hid their Control Ward, the true hunt begins and your goal is to destroy as much of enemy's Control Wards as you can. The team that destroyed all control wards of the opposing team wins the game.

STAND ALONE

Recommended map: Summoner's Rift
Players minimum: 1 (you)
Players recommended: 1 (only you!)
Forbidden items: NONE
Forbidden champions: NONE
Special requirements: NONE
Special rules:
  • When setting up a custom game mode, add 5 (or 4 If you want a quicker game) game bots to the opposing enemy team.
  • You have to win a game in order to win a game.
How to play:
Are you a level 7 Yasuo main?
Are you a Master Yi player that somehow just keeps getting horrible teammates every game and thus have low winrate?
Are you just a player that has no friends?
Well then this game mode is totally for you. Score cool 1v5 pentakills and crush the whole enemy team to the ground alone. And also, If you are so desperate to try this game mode because you have no friends (just like me), go cry in your bathroom. I am sure that those 0.1 % of bacterias that survived the attack of Detol, will be definitely lonely as well....

Practise Tool and Game Spice

TRY DIFFERENT BUILDS

We all know that Bard can be played with regular support items like Redemption, Knight's Vow or Locket of the Iron Solari. But have you ever heard that there is also a really good item combination that even got on top of u.gg at one time that is just overall mindblowing? Of course I am talking about Rapid Firecannon + Dead Man's Plate. This combination allows you to be extremely fast, deadly and grants you even more crowd control! And there are much more effective builds like that. Just go on, the game is full of unconventional strategies for you to explore!!

TRAIN YOUR COMBOS AND ANIMATION CANCELLING IN PRACTISE TOOL

Have you ever heard of that hidden game mode named Practise Tool? No? Of course you did not because no one really uses it! *sighs* Even though it is unpopular, it can offer you a lot of fun. For example I spent like 25 minutes just playing Akali there and doing some pretty crazy things like casting my Shuriken Flip and then after I teleported using Practise tool - teleport tool, I recasted Shuriken Flip and then I just flew around the map! You can also use that as an opportunity to get better at your favorite champions. It was in practise tool when I learned most of the LeBlanc combos, not because I wanted to be super skilled, but because I was bored and this seemed like a nice spice in League!

LEARN HOW TO KILL A RED/BLUE BUFF ON LEVEL 1

Yeah, In my opinion every person should be able to solo kill red buff on level 1 without Smite. It is a great opportunity for you to have an easier time when you get autofilled into a jungle, but it can be fun as well. I recommend using Practise tool in this one. You can lock your level on level 1 and then just instantly respawn yourself If you mess up. Right now, Riot is heavily supporting Unconventional junglers so it is a great opportunity for you to try even less-jungler-ish champions.

START PLAYING JUNGLE

Wait before you condemn me. I am a big Support that refused to play Jungle for past year and half, however I discovered the hidden treasure in this role. Riot is officially encouraging lane champions to be played in Jungle, so you can start to play them here. I spent past few weeks just playing Jungle Morgana for no reason at all, I even started before the buffs were even live for her and I had so much fun. Since now I could really play her only in one place. Sure there are those other lanes like Top or Mid, but If you think about it - it is pretty much the same. Jungle however is a whole new world, for you to explore. So pick your main lane champion and try it out in the Jungle, maybe you will find your long hidden talent of a jungle player that you just could never really find with all those mainstream Lee Sin, Elise, Xin Zhao, etc. champions only being played in this role....
Runes
There are many keystone runes across the game that are much more fun to play then others, we all know it. Of course it comes to everyone's preference on which one is the best. Here you can see my personal tier list of the best of the best. In consideration has been put: Uniqueness, Condition and treatment and animations:

OMNISTONE TIER

This rune is literally a lottery ticket, every few seconds you have to do different things and your games will become a random mess of Electrocute burst damage, Predator movement speed, Glacial Augment slowness and pretty much everything you can think of. It is super fun & random and I just love this rune from the bottom of my heart.

S TIER

Predator is an extremely fun to use keystone with satisfying and useful effect. Wanna build full movement speed? Go ahead - It is fun!

A really underrated keystone rune. Can be very fun and unexpectable when used correctly. Allows you to use a forbidden summoner spell called Clarity, steal objectives with Smite, go wild with Ghost and do some pretty crazy things.

Glacial Augment provides a very interesting and unique ability. It is fun to use and mess around with. The effect requires you to build around it and try something new. Very fun to play rune that pushes your fun in games forward.

A TIER

Lethal Tempo provides an extremely fun effect that can sometimes even turn you into a minigun. Very interesting rune that leads to fun strategies.

This rune can create some pretty cool montage plays we all love watching. Making you never die and create pretty impressive outplays that make you feel proud of your skill.

Nice effect that treats you well for successful combo execution. Generally fun and interesting.

Dark Harvest can be pretty fun rune in oneshot builds or on global range abilities. Generally very fun, mostly in URF modes where it generally is a TOP rune.

This rune can be a lot of fun. The effect is very unique and satisfying, you are rewarded for good aim and make you feel nice.

Generally a more interesting version of Summon Aery. This rune rewards you for great positioning around your allies and is overall pretty OK.

Great rune with quite hard condition you have to play around. The resulting effect is nice and rewarding making you feel nice about great auto attack lock-down.

Quite an interesting rune with solid effect and very fun uses. It is not the most entertaining rune in the world but it gets the job done.

Aftershock is quite bad rune. It has nice animation and unique effect but the condition is usually too easy to complete If you are combining it with point & click stuns like Heroic Charge or Twisted Advance. When picked on champions with harder to proc stuns like Equinox or Riposte you are on the other hand going to feel nice and rewarded for successful aim and that is really good. Fun only on champions with CC skillshots

B TIER

Hit, get HP and movement speed, hit, get HP and movement speed, hit, get HP and movement speed, hit, get HP and movement speed, hit, get HP and movement speed, hit, get HP and movement speed.... Enjoy your game of last hitting, hope you have fun....

Probably the most boring rune in all of League of Legends. Unrewarding and unsatisfying effect that is applied by point & click heal/shield abilities or point & click auto attack abilities. Good rune in ranked but there is no reason in the world why to run it in your friend matches.

VIZ. Summon Aery. This rune basically equals +bonus damage stats on your main ability. The effect is unsatisfying and the rune leads nowhere. Very boring, unrewarding and un-fun. Try to avoid it in friendly matches.

Quite a boring rune with unrewarding effect and quite easy condition that doesn't do anything interesting. Go for something better.

Puzzles
League of legends doesn't have to be a game of teamfights and 1v1s. You can use Practise tool game mode to create your very own puzzles and then try to complete them. Here are few of those that I created.

AKALI'S LONG JOURNEY

Special requirements: Being able to play Akali
How to setup & play the puzzle:
  1. Start a game in Practise tool and select Akali as your champion and Ignite as one of your summoner spells
  2. Using a control panel set your level to 9+, disable minions spawning and give yourself an Auto-refresh cooldown buff.
  3. Buy yourself a Everfrost, Control Ward, Farsight Alteration & Locket of the Iron Solari
  4. Plant Farsight Alterations all along the river
  5. Plant 4 enemy target dummies and 1 ally target dummy along the river - make sure they are in straight line and there is a cca equal space between them
  6. Cast a Shuriken Flip on the enemy target dummy on the edge of the river
  7. Quickly teleport to the alcove on the opposite side of the map and recast Shuriken Flip - you should now be flying across the river and you should see all target dummies along the way
  8. Your job is now to (during the Shuriken Flip recast): cast an Ignite on one of enemy target dummies; put a Control Ward on one of bushes in the way; cast a Everfrost on the second enemy dummy; cast a Five Point Strike on the third enemy dummy; shield an ally target dummy with Locket of the Iron Solari; and cast a Twilight Shroud right in front of the last enemy target dummy
  9. Repeat until you do everything right
Additional notes:
  • Feel free to adjust the order to your will but make sure you finish it in an order you stated!!
  • Feel free to remove or add some parts of the puzzle If you wish to make it easier or harder - you can for example add Smite-ing a Rift Scuttler or add one more ally target dummy and give it a Knight's Vow bond....
