[11.24] Red's Off-meta Tank Blitzcrank |Major Overhaul

By IamRed
ATTENTION
!Making a Major overhaul of this whole guide!
I just don't like how all this looks. There's a lot of text, which to be honest no one will ever read.
About Me (New)
Hello I am Red EUNE player. I play since season 5 but started actively playing little later the same season. I am not a competitive type and that's why I only have about 120 games of Ranked on all Seasons combined.

The reason for this guide is because I play a lot of Off-meta/Troll picks when playing with my friends. To the extent where they actually work!

I mainly play Tanks and Supports. My most played and all time favorite champians are Thresh, Morgana, Ornn, Rammus, Blitzcrank and a lots of other champions.

(You can look at my most played champions here MasteryPoints)

I play and actually enjoy playing League and these Off-meta builds not only but mainly because of CFCryo. A really big Thank You for that Cryo :)
The author of this art is shoiyuu not me!
Introduction
Hello and welcome to my Tank Blitzcrank guide! A big thank you for actually reading all of this text.
(This is a little copy-paste from Cryo's Thresh guide)

To play something like Tank Blitzcrank Top, it's essential to understand why you're building items, how to play this champion and what he really is in the first place!

At first it may be confusing on what to actually build, so I made those example build for the poeple who just view the guide before the game. They are not perfect and I will try make them better and better. Tank Items are almost all situational, so you won't see/build them every game.

This whole guide is focused on Tank Blitzcrank Top. I will only mention those full AD and full AP builds but they are not the main focus on this guide. And just to be clear, Yes, you can build them instead of Fimbulwinter, it's actually pretty good in some situations.

I hope you enjoy this guide and this build!
Why Tank Blitzcrank?
The short anwser: It's fun. Long anwser: Blitzcrank has almost the same Health pool as other Tanks and thanks to his high CC amount he can benefit from the Tank Ability Haste Items a lot. Now with the newly added Fimbulwinter, there's a place for more Mana hungry " Tank " champions. You can also see it built on standard Tanks aswell. Why Fimbulwinter? Well that's because with Blitzcrank's high CC amount he can proc it almost always. But most importantly it's because his Mana Barrier and high Mana cost abilities. You can also build Seraph's Embrace or Muramana but that just makes you a walking "Glass Canon".
A little note is that you won't deal a lot of damage. You are Tank with high and strong CC s.
Items and Mythics
I haven't played Tank Blitzcrank long enough to know what's the best on him. But I played a lot of him and a lot of Tanks so I generally know what's good and when it is good.

Starting Items

Tear of the Goddess is now probably the best option for a starting item. Stacking the Tear early gives you a big advantage. Thanks to it's rework it now also gives you bonus on-hit damage against Minions , so farming with it is much better.

If you think you need protection than Doran's Shield is the better option. I would recommend starting with this if you're against some ranged matchup, like Quinn, Vayne or Teemo for example. It still gives you the bonus damage on Minions just like the Tear of the Goddess does.

I don't buy this item as I think it's quite useless. If you want more Mana than Tear of the Goddess is the better option. If you use it for the Health, well regular Health Potion is just better. If you use it for the extra damage, well... you're not going to do much with it, because in the early game you're trying to avoid longer fights than to engage them. And if you say that it's good because you refill them just by Recalling , well that's just bad because you should try and minimize the amount of time spent at spawn. It also lacks the bonus damage to Minions .

Core Items

These are Items you want to have in your Every build. These are the Items that this guide is all about.

Fimbulwinter

This is your go-to Item for Full on Tank Blitzcrank. It gives tho most Health out of all the Tear of the Goddess Items. It even gives more Health than most Tank Items. On top of that, it also gives a Shield when you Immobilize or Slow an enemy champion, meaning you can withstand even more Damage.

Muramana

The Item has the highest Damage output out of all the Tear of the Goddess Items. It converts portion of your Mana to Attack Damage . You also deal bonus Attack Damage to enemy champions. Damaging Abilities also deal bonus Attack Damage to enemy champions. This is a great Item if you want to deal damage and still be a Tank .

Seraph's Embrace

This Item has higher Damage output than Fimbulwinter, yet lower than Muramana. This Item converts portion of your Mana to Ability Haste. You also Heal for Mana spent. This is a great mix of Sustain and Damage. You can do more damage with your Rocket Grab and Static Field, while also healing when using your abilities.

Mythic Items

Sunfire Aegis

I stand by that this is the BEST Tank item in the whole game. It gives you a lot of Health, Armor, Magic Resistance and Ability Haste. On top of that it also gives all your Legendary items 5% Tenacity, Slow Resistance and 50 bonus Health. It's unique passive has the highest damage output out of all Bami's Cinder Mythics. It's the best item for duels and teamfights. It's only downside is it's higher cost than other Bami's Cinder Mythics.

Frostfire Gauntlet

This is a good alternative to Sunfire Aegis as it retains the original Bami's Cinder passive effect. The point of this item is to give you a lot of Health so you can withstand even more damage. It is great against ranged or poke matchups. It also helps you to stay on top of your target thanks to it's slow effect. You can utilize it with your Rocket Grab and Fimbulwinter. It's biggest downside is it's low damage output.

Turbo Chemtank

This item is a bit different than the other ones. It has the same base stats and cost as Iceborn Gauntlet while also retaining similiar passive effect of the other Bami's Cinder Mythics. Where it differs is with it's unique active ability. It's active ability gives you a boost of Movement Speed towards enemy champions and towers and slowing them when you're close enough to them. So the main point of this item is to catch your opponents. It isn' that bad as it's the only Bami's Cinder Mythic that gives you bonus Ability Haste on all Legendary items. Though the bonus Movement Speed isn't that great, as you can replicate this with Dead Man's Plate while having a higher amount of Health or Resistances by having the other Bami's Cinder Mythic.

Defensive Items

Here I will give basic information about the item, it's stats, what the item does and information on when to build them.

Frozen Heart

This is the only tank Mana item together with Winter's Approach/ Fimbulwinter.
Frozen Heart gives 80 Armor which is the highest Armor shared with Randuin's Omen, it also gives 400 Mana and 20 Ability Haste.
It's unique passive from Warden's Mail reduces post-mitigation damage by 7 (+3.5 per 1000 maximum health) capped at 40%.
Frozen Heart's unique passive reduces attack speed of nearby enemy champions by 20%.
Frozen Heart is great against Attackers ( Yasuo, Vayne for example) or Champions who apply on-hit effects ( Kayle, Fiora for example).

Randuin's Omen

This is the only item that reduces Critical Strike Damage.
Randiun's Omen gives 80 Armor which is the highest Armor shared with Frozen Heart, it also gives 250 Health and 10 Ability Haste.
It's unique passive from Warden's Mail reduces post-mitigation damage by 5 (+3.5 per 1000 maximum health) capped at 40%.
Randuin's Omen unique active ability Slows nearby enemies by 99% for 0.25 seconds and reduces their Attack Damage by 10% and Critical Strike Damage by 20% for 4 seconds with 60 seconds cooldown.
Randuin's Omen is great against enemies who deal Critical Strike Damage which is basically almost every ADC ( Lucian, Caitlyn for example)

Thornmail

This is one of the five Legendary Items that apply Grievous Wounds also called "Anti-heal" (Grievous Wounds is a debuff that reduces all incoming Healing and Health Regeneration recieved).
Thornmail gives 60 Armor and 350 Health.
It's unique passive from Bramble Vest deals 10 (+10% bonus armor) Magic Damage to the attacker when being struck by a basic attack, if they are a champion, inflict them with 40% Grievous Wounds for 3 seconds.
Thornmail's unique passive ability inflicts 60% Grievous Wounds on an enemy champion after you Immobilize them.
Thornmail is great against Chmapions with self-healing ( Aatrox, Camille for example) or Champions who can Heal ( Soraka, Yuumi for example)

Dead Man's Plate

This is the only Item that passively grants Movement Speed by just moving.
Dead Man's Plate gives +45 Armor, +300 Health and +5% Movement Speed.
Dead Man's Plate unique passive generates 7 stacks of Momentum each 0.25 seconds while moving, granting up to 40 Bonus Movement Speed at 100 stacks after 3.75 seconds of moving. Momentum decays by 15 every 0.25 seconds while immobilized. Basic attacks consumes all stacks to deal 0-40 (Based on Momentum) (+0% - 100% (based on Momentum) base Attack Damage) bonus physical damage. At maximum stacks, the target is also Slowed by 50% for 1 second.
Dead Man's Plate is great for catching your opponents and combining it with Overdrive you can get a lot of Movement Speed. You can buy this Item if you're struggling to land your Rocket Grab. Instead try to land your Power Fist first.

Force of Nature

This is the only item that grants Movement Speed and reduced Magic Damage stacking additively.
Force of Nature gives 70 Magic Rests, 350 Health and +5% Movement Speed.
Force of Nature's unique passive grants a stack of Steadfast for 5 seconds up to a maximum of 6 stacks when taking Magic Damage. Becoming Immobilized by an enemy champion grants 2 additional stacks. Spells can only grant 1 stack of Steadfast every 1 second. At maximux stacks of Steadfast, gain 10% bonus Movement Speed and reduce all incoming Magic Damage by 20%.
Force of Nature is just like Dead Man's Plate but against AP matchups. The only downside of this Item is that you need to take Damage in order to get the Movement Speed and the Damage Reduction.

Spirit Visage

This is the only item that increases all Healing and Shielding Recieved.
Spirit Visage gives 40 Magic Resistance, 450 Health, +100% Health Regeneration and 10 Ability Haste.
Spirit Visage's unique passive ability increases all Healing and Shielding Received by 25%.
Spirit Visage is great for Champions with Self-Healing/Shielding. For Blitzcrank it's useful thanks to his Mana Barrier and our Core Item Fimbulwinter. It is also great if you have a teammate that either Heal ( Soraka, Nami for example) or Shield ( Rakan, Janna for example).

Abyssal Mask

This is the only Item that reduces the enemy's Magic Resistance.
Abyssal Mask gives 30 Magic Resistance, 450 Health and 10 Ability Haste.
Abyssal Mask's unique passive ability reduces all nearby enemy Magic Resistance by 5 (+1% Bonus Health) capped at a reduction of 20 Magic Resistance. You also gain 7 Bonus Magic Resistance per affected enemy.
Abyssal Mask is basically your go-to Item on Tanks that deal Magic Damage, so it's really good on Blitzcrank. It's also great if you have an AP carry in your team.

Warmog's Armor

This item gives the highest amount of Health out of all other Items.
Warmog's Armor gives 800 Health, +200% Health Regeneration and 10 Ability Haste.
Warmog's Armor unique passive ability requires you to have at least 1100 Bonus Health. The passive ability regenerates 5% Maximum Health every second if you didn't take any damage for 6 seconds (3 seconds if damaged by a non-Champion).
I personally don't build this as there are a lot of Champions and Items that deal more damage to higher Health opponents. It is still a great Item, even better when combined with Titanic Hydra and Iceborn Gauntlet.

Gargoyle Stoneplate

This is one of the two Legendary Items that give both Armor and Magic Resistance shared with Hullbreaker.
Gargoyle Stoneplate gives 60 Armor, 60 Magic Resistance and 15 Ability Haste.
Gargoyle Stoneplate's unique passive ability increases your Bonus Armor and Bonus Magic Resistance by 5% for 6 seconds when a champion deals damage to you, every unique champions grants a stack, up to a maximum of 5 stacks for a maximum of 25% increase.
Gargoyle Stoneplate's active ability grants you a shield for 100 (+100% Bonus Health), decaying over 2.5 seconds, and 25% increased size while active with 90 second cooldown.
Gargoyle Stoneplate is generally good thanks to it giving both Armor and Magic Resistance. Where it excells is in all-ins and tower dives. It's also a good choice if you're dying fast in teamfights.

Utility Items

These Iems are not really necessary and you can probably win without them, but they can help you in certain situations.

Sterak's Gage

This is more of a Defensive Item but you only build it in a certain Situation.
Sterak's Gage gives 400 Health and 50 Attack Damage.
Sterak's Gage first unique passive Bloodlust heals 2% of your Maximum Health over 6 seconds when dealing or taking Damage. This stacks and refreshes per unique champion, up to 5 times, but every stack beyond the first is reduced by 50%, for a maximum of healing for 6% of Maximum Health over the duration.
Sterak's Gage seconds unique passive activates when you would take damage that would reduce you below 30% of your Maximum Health, granting you Shield that absorb 100 damage for 4 seconds, increased by 8% Maximum Health per stack of Bloodlust, up to an increase of 40% Maximum Health at 5 stacks of Bloodlust. This has 60 second cooldown.
Sterak's Gage is great defensive Anit-burst Item. Build this if you die a lot to a burst of damage. It's one of the counters to Assassins ( Zed Kha'Zix for example).

Titanic Hydra

This is the BEST damage Item for Tanks .
Titanic Hydra gives 500 Health and 30 Attack Damage.
Titanic Hydra's unique passive ability grants you a bonus Attack Damage equal to 2% of Bonus Health.
Titanic Hydra's unique ability from Tiamat grants you that your basic attacks deal 5 (+1.5 Maximum Health) bonus Attack Damage to target and 40 (+3% Maximum Health) Attack Damage to other enemies in a cone in the direction of the target.
This is the BEST damage Item for Tank Blitzcrank as it deals bonus Damage based on your Bonus Maximum Health. If you want to deal damage or win duels you can buy this Item. A little disclaimer is that you should build this earlier on if you need that bonus Damage.

Anathema's Chains

This Item helps at those un-even matchups.
Anathema's Chains grants 650 Health and 20 Ability Haste.
Anathema's Chains unique active ability: Designate the target enemy champion as your Nemesis and gain 1 stack of Vendetta every 2 seconds over 60 seconds, up to 30 stacks, resetting upon selecting a new Nemesis. Cannot be cast for 15 seconds while in combat with champions and having a Nemesis. This has 90 seconds cooldown with global range.
Vendetta: Take 1% reduced damage per stack of Vendetta from your Nemesis, up to 30% reduced damage. At maximum stacks, your Nemesis has 20% reduced Tenacity while they are near you.
I recommend this Item when the enemey team has a really fed champion that carries the game.

Silvermere Dawn

This is one of the two Quicksilver Sash (QSS) Items.
Silvermere Dawn grants 300 Health, 35 Magic Resistance and 40 Attack Damage.
Silvermere Dawn has the unique active ability of Quicksilver Sash with a little bonus on top, meaning that by acitatiung it you remove all CC debuffs (except Airborne) from your champion and grants 40% Tenacity, Slow Resistance and Ghosting for 3 seconds with 90 second cooldown.
I would only recommend this Item against champions with Suppression ( Malzahar, Skarner, Tahm Kench, Urgot and Warwick), as Suppression is unaffected by Tenacity. You can buy it against heavy CC matchups, but you can just buy Sunfire Aegis and Mercury's Treads to deal with it.

Hullbreaker

This Item is great when you just push and play solo.
Hullbreaker grants you 400 Health, +150% Health Regeneration and 50 Attack Damage.
Hullbreaker's unique passive: While no allied Champions are near you, gain 20 − 60 (based on level) Bonus Armor and Bonus Magic Resistance and deal 20% Bonus Damage against structures. Nearby allied Siege Minions and Super Minions gain 60 − 180 (based on level) Bonus Armor and Bonus Magic Resistance, 10% bonus size and deal 200% bonus Damage against structures. Bonus Resistances decay over 3 seconds while allied Champions are nearby.
Hullbreaker is great when pushing and playing solo, though as Blitzcrank you're more of a Support like champion, so pushing and playing solo won't give you that much of an advantage.
