[9.24] 'fear the assassin with no master' - Akali Guide

By x3pher
General/summary
Brief Overview:
Akali is an AP/AD hybrid, mobile, early-mid game champion. She has extremely strong laning if played right, and has an even strong LVL 6 all in potential. She is moderately high skill floor AND skill ceiling and takes depending on the person, typically a fair amount of experience to play 'properly'. She is very high risk high reward based, and a single mistake in a fight can spell your death. She has massive carry potential in the early-mid game if you manage to get fed, and has huge 1v9 potential.
Phases
Phases:
Early Game:
Your early game/laning phase varies on the match up, like most champions. Here are the most common.
- Kill Pressure - You want to be looking to use your standard electrocute proc combo, Q > P > Q where ever possible and depending on the enemy, look to all in when they're within your lethal range, which depends on a few factors; How much space between the enemy and their tower, their mobility, CC, and loads more. Understanding your lethal range comes with experience, and knowledge of both yours and the enemies champions. The best advice I can give is to if you don't already use lol.wiki to look at your enemy's abilities and cool-downs, and just gaining experience through practice and high elo game play.
- Hard lane - Incomplete

Mid Game: After the tier 1 towers fall and laning phase is ending, typically if you have a functional team you want to be split pushing (depending on how your laning phase went). If you are strong enough you want to be looking to split pushing either bot or top depending on the current objectives/soon to become available objectives to force more than one person to counter your split. When splitting you want to constantly be keeping an eye on your team especially in lower elos. Your team mates will typically in lower elos be very unreliable and you should expect that they will likely get caught over extending past the river whilst you are pushing in another lane. If you are in low elo, the best course of action I typically find is to gamble that your team can last one minuet whilst you are starting to create pressure in another lane, force more than two people to answer to your presence, rotate to mid and try to make a play. If nobody matches your split then obviously go for towers, unless you can see a fight breaking out at an objective that you can get to in time however there are a few occasions where its best to continue splitting depending on the scenario. (team fighting guide below)

Late Game: By this time, scaling champions such as yasuo (if he wasn't aiming for his 0-11 power spike that game) will be getting their items/stacks/levels and you wont be able to split push as well as you could before, also considering your lacking wave clear, so you want to be focusing on team fights and objectives with your team. Late game, akali is nowhere near as strong as she is early-mid game so typically you want to be closing games out prior to the late game, however even more prominent in lower elos, games tend to drag out longer than they're supposed to with the lack of macro understand from both teams. (team fighting guide below)
Team Fighting / Combos
Team fighting:
Your team fighting play style will vary very much depending on how strong/fed you are. If you aren't behind, you should always be looking to take opportunities on the enemy back line to try and eliminate high value targets/squishes such as adcs PRIOR to them unloading their damage onto your team. Typically after taking out one or two targets your abilities will all be on cool-down, in which your zhonyas comes into play, but its value is upto your teams. By the time you press that active, your life rests in the hands of your team mates which if you had managed to do your job in taking out your targets then they should be able to bail you out, most of the time.

IF you do manage to fall behind a considerable amount, its best to stick with your team and try to produce as much damage as possible whilst still looking for windows of opportunity. If somebody is way out of line/miss positioned, like a front line adc then its your job to take advantage of them, considering in low elo your team mates probably wont.

Combos:
Your combos are extremely situational. Every single fight has a different order for your abilities. My advice is to watch as much high elo game play as possible and practice a lot. Here are afew examples
- Standard ELEC. proc = Q > P > Q
- Pre 6 all-in #1 = E1 > E2 > P > Q > W > P > Q
- Pre 6 all-in #2 = Q > W > P > Q > P > E1 > E2 > P
- Standard LVL 6 + Gunblade/GB all-in = GB > R1 > P > Q > W > P > E1 > E2 > P > Q > P > R2 >
Items
Items:
Starting Items:
- Doran's Ring: Good starting item in kill pressure lanes. Mana Regen passive is useless but the rest of the stats are perfect for akali.
- Doran's Shield: Good for sustaining in lane. The only item you want to tank when your in a hard match up especially against heavy poke
- Dark Seal: Very great snowballing starting item. If you manage to stack this, and afterwards, mejais, your golden, but is very risky. Only ever take it if you are confident.

Core Items:
- Sorcerer's Shoes: Very good to buy if you have the perfect amount of gold prior to gunblade. The movement speed over your opponent is huge and can be the difference between hitting the last needed Q and not, and on top of the flat magic penetration is perfect to buy early if you expect to be looking for more kills. Also very good if you intend on roaming which you should be if you are ahead enough to buy them.
- Gunblade: Perfect item for akali, has everything she needs. AD and AP values, a passive that compliments your kit perfectly and sustain that she lacks after the nerf. If you can secure this early in the laning phase, your golden.
- Zhonyas: Most of the time the item you want to be buying 3rd with a few exceptions. Perfect for your very high risk high reward diving play style, also good to buy armguard early if you are having trouble in an AD match up in lane. Highly recommend buying 3rd in most games.

Situational:

Fed/carry:
- Lich bane: Amazing when versing squishy teams and even better when planning on split pushing. The passive gives you a very nice extra amount of burst and pairs perfectly with your kit. I personally buy this very often whenever I have the gold. Makes taking towers and squishys look like butter.
- Morello: Very good item overall. Has HP, AP, Flat Magic Pen. AND a bonus grevious wounds passive which is almost always going to be somewhat useful against most comps. I typically manage to always fit morello into my builds.
- Death Cap: Loads of AP, loads of damage. Usually would buy after 3rd or 4th item because of the passive.
- Void Staff: Always buy void before death cap if the enemy team is stacking magic resist.
- Banshees Veil: Great against heavy AP teams. Has good stats overall and the passive is very useful for hard engaging back lines.
- Mercurial Scimitar: I almost always just buy QSS and finish the item later if I need the active. I almost always save up for QSS into Malzahar, sometimes if I can before gunblade. No point having items if you cant use them.
- Liandrys: Very good against comps with high HPs. I almost always buy it when the enemy has 2 or more tanks unless I'm extremely ahead and building to hard carry.
- Guardian Angel: I'm not too fond of buying it on akali, in which I usually don't, but in games where the enemy is almost all AD I recommend getting it mainly for the armor. The passive and AD being second priority. There're just better items that do better jobs, but guardian is the only one other than zhonyas that has a good armor stat.
- Maw of Malmortius: Similarly to guardian angel, I don't like buying this item too much, but I do buy it when the enemy has insane burst and AP scaling, typically i find the item useful against syndras during the mid to late game. Against, still don't highly recommend unless you are in one of those situations.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading my guide. This is the first guide I've created for league and, embarrassingly took me over 2 hours to make. I'm 15, have been playing league since the start of 2019 (totalling over 2k hours in one year), and I typically stream over 6+ hours a day of league and league only, (although at the time of writing I've been very busy with exams so I haven't been able to stay consistent with my schedule). If you want to support me, come say hi during my streams @ https://www.twitch.tv/x3phers , your support means the world to me.

Again, hope you guys liked my guide, and thanks for reading ^_^
