Pros and Cons

  • She has a bad level 1 and 2.
  • She lacks mobilitry and can be kited easily.
  • Her Test of Spirit is kind of difficult to land and easy to dodge.
  • She can be outscaled by a lot of champions.
  • She gets countered by ranged champions.
  • She can't fight easily without her tentacles.
  • She also gets countered by crowd control .

Conqueror gives extra phisical damage and healing which is the perfect rune for Illaoi since she is a Fighter and she can stack it easily.

Illaoi is a champion that requires mana to use her abilities and Presence of Mind is the ideal rune to regenerate mana in fights.

Crowd Control counters Illaoi since she cannot close the gap beetween her and her enemies, so Tenacity will help against that.

Illaoi usually gets to low health until she does her big damage with her tentacles and that is why I picked Last Stand.

Illaoi is a champion that mainly split-pushes in the side lanes and destroys turrets, so Demolish will help destroying them faster and getting platings early on in the game.

Just like Legend: Tenacity, Unflinching will give you Tenacity to close the gap with the enemies, especially when you are low health which synergizes with Last Stand.

Prophet of an Elder God

Periodically, Illaoi spawns a Tentacle on the nearest terrain perpendicular to her location, if no other Tentacles are already nearby it. Tentacles fully spawn after a 2 second delay and are untargetable in the meantime.
Tentacles are commanded to attack by Illaoi's abilities.

Tentacle Smash

Illaoi slams down a Tentacle in the target direction.

Harsh Lesson

Illaoi's next basic attack within 6 seconds gains 225 bonus range and causes her to leap to the target's location if they're beyond her normal basic attack range.

The attack deals bonus physical damage, with a minimum threshold, and capped at 300 against non-champions, and commands all Tentacles in range to attack the target. The minimum bonus damage can also be applied against turrets .

Harsh Lesson resets Illaoi's basic attack timer.

Harsh Lesson can be activated during Illaoi's other abilities, other than while pulling a Spirit.

Test Of Spirit

Illaoi launches a tendril in the target direction that stops at the first enemy hit, pulling their Spirit out in front of Illaoi over 0.75 seconds if they're a champion. The target is tethered to the Spirit for 7 seconds, revealing them in addition to granting sight of the area around them while the tether remains.

The Spirit spawns with the target's Health current health, armor and magic resist, and redirects a portion of the pre-mitigation damage received to the tethered champion.

When the Spirit is killed or the target leaves tether range, the tether is severed, marking the target as a Vessel for 10 seconds slowing them by 80% for 1.5 seconds once the tether returns back to them. Each Tentacle autonomously attacks the closest Vessel or Spirit, prioritizing the latter, once every 5 to 3 seconds.

Enemies made a Vessel also spawn a Tentacle near themselves every 5 to 3 seconds. Tentacles can spawn 250 units closer to each other than when spawned by Illaoi.

Illaoi is unable to act while firing the projectile and while the target's Spirit is being pulled.
Illaoi cannot cast Test of Spirit again until the Spirit dies.

Leap of Faith

Illaoi gains displacement immunity and leaps into the air for the cast time. She then slams her idol into the ground, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies. For each enemy champion hit, a Tentacle is summoned for 8 seconds (up to a maximum of 6 summons).

For the duration, Harsh Lesson's cooldown is halved, all Tentacles awakened by Illaoi are untargetable, will not show their hitboxes, nor go dormant, and will take half the amount of time to make an attack. This however does not affect the Tentacle attack from Tentacle Smash.

Early/Mid Game

Early Game

In the early game, you buy Corrupting Potion versus melee and Doran's Shield versus ranged or heavy poke. Before minions spawn, try to spawn as many tentacles as you can with Prophet of an Elder God. You start with Tentacle Smash to get the first 3 melee minions. Also, try to poke your opponent with your abilities. Play safe until level 3 because you have bad level 1 and 2. When you reach level 3 try to hit your opponent with Test of Spirit. It is pretty difficult to land so try to hit them when they are not expecting it.
Ideal first item backs are Sheen, Caulfield's Warhammer, Kindlegem or Plated Steelcaps.
Level 6 is your big power spike because of Leap of Faith. You can easily turn ganks with the combination of Test of Spirit and Leap of Faith because there are gonna spawn a lot of tentacles.
Illaoi is really immobile and barely has any crowd control on her kit so she is not a champion that can roam like Quinn or Singed. Instead of roaming, Illaoi chooses to split push and tear down turrets.

In the mid-game, your goal is to destroy turrets and use your Teleport for team fights to secure objectives such as Dragon or Baron Nashor . You can leave from the top lane and split push at the bot lane.
Illaoi is one of the best champions to destroy turrets because of Harsh Lesson which is an auto-attack reset that can be used at turrets. Also Demolish will help you a lot and can secure turret plates early on to gain a lead over your opponent. Last but not least, try to end the game quickly if you have a lead because you might get outscaled and throw the game.

I hope I helped!!!
