She has a longer range than you and can burn you down with the poison and damage, it's not very easy to win this lane, but it's not impossible.
Honestly, Ekko is one of your biggest counters, he can dodge all your abilities and close the gap between you like it's nothing whilst taking away your HP. The best thing to do is to let the waves come to you and have your jungler gank as much as possible.
This isn't actually as hard of a lane as one might think. Early game, you have much more damage unless he can get in close. Keep your distance and burst him when possible and you should be able to win this lane. However, if he manages to get even one kill, you might as well move the difficulty of this lane to maximum as he will being to oneshot you with his ultimate.
Not too hard to win this one, just dodge his skillshots and you should be fine as long as you can beat him early game. If you can't, then you're in trouble because his threat level shoots straight through the roof.
Dodge the skillshots and you basically render her useless in lane. If she ults, you ult and dodge. Running into your minions are actually helpful in this moment.
Yasuo is difficult to lane against, but only depending on the situation, this is a harder skill matchup leaning to him but you can actually win this if you play it right. This is of course, presuming that the Yasuo knows what he is doing. If he doesn't, this lane becomes a whole lot easier.
Another skill matchup, this pretty much depends on what happens, die to her even once and it will become a lot harder to win.
If you can dodge the skillshots you should be fine as long as you burst him down when possible.
This is a nightmare to face against since regardless of if you beat him or not, he'll just tank your damage late game like it's nothing.
Space aids are annoying and so are the minions due to your squishiness.
His E can dodge all your abilities and his damage is insane when he has them up.
She has the range early game and the damage too, especially when she hits 6. Better to ask the jungler for help if you don't think you can do it by yourself.
This should be one of your easiest matchups as long as you should be able to win this since you can burst her early and late game. Just be careful of her ultimate and burst, especially in the late game.
Another hard matchup. If you can get past his stun and wall, then you stand a chance.
This is a skill matchup that depends on how good the enemy Kassadin is, if he isn't good, then you should have an easier time, but it still won't be easy.
She can burst you down as well as juke you. This is a pretty annoying matchup but if you play it right, then you could end up destroying her.
The turrets are painful and outrange you, you need to be careful when playing against him.
Her ball can be really annoying and force you away from your minions as well as her. She also has strong bursting power so it's pretty hard to win this unless the enemy Orianna is really bad.
Fairly annoying, but at least he is squishy enough for you to burst him down when he steps too close.
Dodge the Q and you should be fine, you have more burst than her so if you can dodge the majority of her spells, then this should be a relatively easy lane to beat.
He will just stack magic resist and health and crush you when he has the chance because he can heal a lot of the damage that you deal if he can get close enough.
When he upgrades his Q, he will normally be able to burst you down better than you can burst him. His Q+Auto does a lot just like you. Overall though, this is a skill matchup which depends on how the fight plays out.
His ultimate and stun normally ends up beating you over pretty easily and it's not easy to stop him from getting stacks with his passive. An early Rod of Ages first item or a Banshee's will help to mitigate some of his burst.
He is annoying with his stun and other abilities and passive. You can deal with him if you can get past his skillshots though.
His abilities hurt and have a longer range than your's do. No more explaining needed.
Ok, so the new Akali is VERY different from the old Akali. She can now dash towards you a lot early game, which is a very bad thing. However, you can easily harass her with your Q in the very beginning of the game, but once she has her ultimate available, BACK OFF! On a side note, when Akali uses her shroud, if you used your Q before she enters her shroud, then your Q will always land unless they use stopwatch/zhonyas/etc, in which case it will miss. If she builds her items before you, she wins, otherwise, it's a skill matchup until lategame. Late game, you should be able to waste her if you use your ultimate. But all in all, until she has her dashes, deal damage to her when possible without getting too close!
Until Diana hits level 6, she is not too much of a threat, however, once she hits 6, she will become a major threat. So back off when she hit's level 6 as her difficulty increases from level 6 onwards!
Azir is very annoying as he will poke you down with his soldiers. He is still beatable however if you are able to burst him down faster than he can burst you.
A very annoying matchup. She has longer range than you most of the time due to her W and her Q will slow you down with her ult stopping you from killing her if she is allowed to use it. She's not unkillable, but she is tough to face.
Her Q is very useful to try and poke you and she has a kit that allows her to all in and potentially kill you. She's annoying but not undefeatable.
This matchup is a question of how much damage you can deal to each other. She has very strong poke and is annoying to face but otherwise it should be ok.
He will tank your damage late game and he has a decent poke. To be honest, this is just a question of how much damage you can deal to him and how much he can deal to you.
A bit of a harder matchup, but this depends on skill and how much damage you throw out at each other. Just hit him when you can and try to stay away from his abilites. Remember that your heal is your best asset here.
Has low damage potential until her gets his abilities. Starts to burst your really quickly if your not careful once he has an item or two. He has a major gapcloser so it's normally best to stay by your turret and get cs passively while asking for ganks from teammates.
His gold cards are annoying, but that's about it. His skillshots are easy to dodge, and you naturally have more damage than him the whole game. This should be an easy lane so ABUSE YOUR DAMAGE until he dies.
A skill matchup which depends on two things. Firstly, if this Gankplank is good, then this is going to be a really hard game. Otherwise, it is a skill matchup depending on who can kill the other player first. If this gangplank isn't good, then this will be easier, but still not easy. Make sure to remember how much damage he does so you don't accidentally make a mistake!
He isn't that big of a deal. Just play this lane safely, dodge his abilities when you can and it should be ok. Make sure to ping though every time he disappears from his lane, ESPECIALLY AFTER HE HITS LEVEL 6. Any time after he hits level 6 and he isn't in lane, immediately ping MIA! His ult is a high-priority threat!
This is a primarily a skill matchup depending on who can do the most damage to the other player first. Dodge his skillshots, stay back, and wait for the right opportunity and this should be an easy lane to win. But if this kennen is good, he WILL give you a hard time - SO BE CAREFUL AT ALL TIMES! Additionally, his E makes him faster than you using your own E, so make sure to be aware of it.
This is such a painful champion to go against... Not only does she have the ability to kill you really easily in the early game, but her late game potential is really strong. Early game, only poke her with q, only auto attack her when she attacks you. Otherwise, stay away from her and behind minions AT ALL TIMES! Later in the game, if you have enough items, you should ideally be able to oneshot her if you use everything at once (presuming she didn't buy more than one tank item).
Ok, if this is AP Malphite, this is an absolute pain after level 6. Before level 6, you can easily waste him even if he does a lot of damage with his Q. But after level 6, he has the ability to oneshot you without you even having any ability to fight back. If he lands his ult and has enough ability power, he is dead. The same applies if it is not AP, but if they are not playing AP Malphite, you stand a stronger chance of surviving, but it's still difficult to win lane.
Oh. My. God. This is a literal nightmare of a lane. He does SO MUCH DAMAGE throughout THE WHOLE GAME! If he get's one kill, this lane becomes stupidly hard to near impossible to win. Do everything it takes to play safe, and try to make sure that no one dies or gets him an assist. GANKS ARE ESSENTIAL TO CALL FOR IN THIS LANE!
A skill matchup. Stay behind minions and deal damage when you can. If you can dodge her bubbles, this is a lot easier as her ult makes her an easy target to deal her free damage to her face. Otherwise, play it safe until you get a good opportunity to deal damage to her.
A skill matchup, but is slightly frustrating due to her plants.
Skill matchup - Who is the better Sona player (or who get's ganked more to be perfectly honest)?
He isn't hard to deal with by himself, he will clear your minions a lot so make sure to stay back and let the wave push to your tower and farm under it if you have to. If you get rooted by him, just deal damage if you have the time to. Otherwise, heal yourself and back off.
Annoying tormented soils, but stand behind minions and she isn't too hard to deal with. Just don't let her get too close!
Skill matchup, if you can dodge her skillshots, this becomes a really easy lane. Otherwise, if you can't dodge them, this is gonna be a tough time.
His long-range kit makes him quite hard to deal with. Just wait for ganks and the late game to try deal with him.
He can literally oneshot you if you are not careful enough. Before level 2, he is pretty easy to deal with, but once he has his dash he is a lot harder to deal with.
As long as you can dodge his skillshots, this is an easy lane, but always make sure to be careful! Use your E to dodge abilities when needed!
This lane will probably push into your tower normally, but regardless, this is an easy lane as he is quite squishy and as long as you dodge the second bomb which stuns, you will be fine.
She isn't all that much. Playing against Neeko is like playing against a Lux - As long as you can dodge the root, you will be fine early game. At the later stages of the game, if she lands the root, immediately using your ultimate should save you if you do it fast enough. Basically, this is a Lux that has a little more damage and a stun.
This is a somewhat fun skill matchup to play. She is a melee champ with dashes and a hard hitting ultimate. There are only two things to be aware of when fighting her in lane. 1. Before level 3 don't be afraid to hit her constantly, but be more careful once she hit's level 3 due to her dashes - She can kill you with them if she is good. 2. Once she hits level 6, keep a good distance away from her, but more importantly, keep a good distance away from all walls and turrets, her ultimate can definitely waste you if it lands. Other than that, this is a fun lane where the better player wins, no stupid "Your damage is absolutely BS" because if she starts to oneshot you, it is COMPLETELY your fault for not being able to stop her from becoming that strong.
High damage synergy. If you don't deal the oneshot, he will finish it for you (presuming he knows what he is doing). His 4 shots makes him only a strong synergy and not an ideal one.
You deal most of the poke he needs to cash in on his stacks. Make his life easier and he will carry you back.
Constant CC is exactly what you need, and having it in the support out of all the roles is the best option. Leona is one of the greater synergies that Sona can have. Only downside is that, if you do not have the damage to make up for it, the fights will turn ugly really fast.
Although Thresh has a lot of CC, his CC doesn't affect as many people as other champions such as Leona does. An upside that makes up for this however, is the lantern and ultimate which can be very handy.
The only issue that I can find with Blitzcrank, is that if he ever goes in or hooks an enemy in, if you do not have the damage your chances of winning a fight plummets. In addition, if he hooks the wrong enemy, things can turn out badly.
You ult, he kills backline. Enough said. Ok, the only actual downside is that he COULD get oneshotted by the enemy before it happens. Otherwise, it's a pretty good synergy.
He just doesn't provide enough CC as Red Kayn. As for Blue Kayn, as long as there are at least one major tank with a lot of CC, then it can be ok, but still isn't that great as teamfighting can be a major issue.
Despite having some really good CC and a shield that can save you, that's about all he can do, which doesn't help out as much as you would need it to.
This is only dependent on how much gold you can give her. If it isn't enough, you lose, otherwise, you win. Simple as that.
He can clear out the enemy really well as long as you peel for him. I would suggest buying an Ardent purely for him.
Cleanup crew and has some CC, downside being that he can be bursted for having low total HP.
She is a very good ADC to play with. You can give her utility and heals whilst also bursting down enemies together. The only downside I can think of is that she is easily killed if you and your teammates do not peel and tank for her properly.
Ashe is an ok ADC in my opinion to be playing with. The only issue I find is that she isn't a very mobile champion which can make a decent difference. She also doesn't deal as much instant damage as other champions like Jhin and Caitlyn.
She does very good damage and is incredibly mobile. The only issue I find when playing with Kaisa is to have proper positioning - Specifically when she ults. Sometimes, when a Kaisa ults, she may end up in a bad position. This either results in one of two things, your team gets punished for it, or you manage to reposition well enough to either win the fight, trade kills or back off safely.
She does damage and can be easily peeled for since she is quite mobile, especially when her passive increases her speed.

Champion Build Guide
So, first off, I'm new to this and this is my first guide I've put on Mobafire so please leave me comments if you could because I would like the advice. With that said, I'm new and also bad at doing this kinda stuff and really don't have enough time on my hands to make it as appealing or as in-depth as most other guides so forgive me about that and I'll be updating this guide as much as I can but otherwise please cut me some slack for how this guide appears. Thanks.
This is a guide for those who want to have fun, try new things and have a shot at trying to one-shot people in-game. For the current meta, she isn't considered to be very strong, and it's true when you compare her to champions such as Ekko, Fizz, Syndra, etc. However, she DOES have the potential of becoming very strong against any squishy if given the proper chance.
Also although this is not a good guide (compared to pretty much all other guides), I originally created this guide to be for the usefulness for other players of low elo. This is mainly due to the fact that I myself am a low elo player (Currently Gold 4). I've been put down in Bronze multiple times and climbed out easily by only playing Sona mid and support with the above builds. So I guess this is a guide on how to get out of Bronze by playing Sona.
+ Can end up one-shotting most squishies eventually.

- Low Mobility without boots or Song of Celerity.
- So damn squishy.
- Easily countered.
- Almost useless without items.
- Little to no escape ability.
- You miss that ult or use it badly - can cost the game.
Power Chord: This passive gives Sona her utility as well as her damage. Its first passive is Aura, and it creates a special AOE circle which has an effect - Increased damage on Q, shield on W and a movement speed increase to all allies in the circle for E. The aura last 3 seconds and only empowers allied champs once, but it also creates a 0.5 second period of time where you cannot cast any of her other basic abilities. Using another ability while the aura is still active cancels the current aura and uses the new aura to replace it. The other part of her power chord (which is called Power Chord - no bonus points for guessing it). This causes her next basic attack after using any 3 basic spells (It can be the same spell 3 times) to do increased damage scaling on 20% of her AP and has an additional effect depending on what her last basic spell used was. Power Chord will reset Sona's auto attack timer when it becomes ready (e.g. you have 2 stacks and auto attack, then use an ability, if done correctly the auto attack timer will reset and fire your next one immediately) which is incredibly useful as it helps you to trade against your enemy more efficiently. Something to note, abilities such as Counter Strike and Riposte cannot block the Power Chord damage, even if it can block the basic attack damage. However, it can be blocked or missed.
Hymn of Valor (Q): This skill is your key to farming and harassing as Sona. It automatically targets champs and will hit them unless they use Zhonya's Hourglass, Playful / Trickster, etc. It is the main source of your damage. This can be used with Hextech Revolver so that it only takes one Q and auto attack in order to do a lot of burst damage. Using this ability with Power Chord gives you a 40% damage boost on your auto attack.
Aria of Perseverance (W): Is a very useful heal and comes with an shield. On using it's Power Chord, it reduces the target's damage output by 25% (+4 per 100 AP) for 3 seconds. This scales 25% AP for the heal and 30% for the shield so it can be very useful long as you have the items to stack it up. One thing to note though, is that due to the fact that this build primarily builds full ability power; if you don't have any utility supporting items such as Ardent Censer, you won't be able to heal or shield as much as a proper Sona support would, but the ability power does try to make up for it. Typically, when you cannot oneshot your enemy yet and they try to all in on you, using Power Chord with Aria of Perseverance or your Song of Celerity will be your way out.
Song of Celerity (E): This is your movement skill that increases movement speed of all allies and yourself by up to 14% (+ 6% per 100 AP) at max level for 3 seconds. This movement speed increase becomes 7 seconds for Sona ONLY if you don't take damage and this extended buff is canceled if you take damage. Using this ability with your Power Chord makes it so that your next auto attack slows the target by 40% (+ 4% per 100 AP). This is a very good skill for engaging/disengaging with and can also be a potential gap closer against enemy champs.
- Crescendo (R): This is a large AOE ultimate that has a fairly good range and a large hitbox that's pretty hard to miss. As a passive, it reduces the base cooldowns of Sona's abilities by up to 40% (not including the cooldown reduction she already has through items or runes like Transcendence). With the cooldown reduction, you have the potential of spamming abilities constantly. It also has a 50% AP scaling so it can do some pretty good damage and it stuns all enemy champs hit for 1.5 seconds, which can mean everything in a teamfight. It moves quickly but the only problem is that it has a 0.2-second delay before it launches and that can mean a lot when you're in a tight spot.
Please note that I tried to make this part of the information as accurate as possible but unfortunately this was done by eye using the practice tool and I did not have the time to slow the footage down to check it properly, so my information is definitely going to be off by an amount of time and for that I am sorry.
Although there are other options for summoner spells that could replace Ignite, I would recommend you not to take anything to replace Ignite. This is mainly due to the fact that as Sona, Exhaust in the mid lane is useless for Sona. Tbis is because the damage reduction is almost never worth it due to how squishy you are and you have a slow on your power chord Song of Celerity which helps you can use as a replacement for the slow on Exhaust. Ghost is not really worth taking either since your Song of Celerity will provide very good movement speed, especially in the late game. Barrier is thought to be ok to take against harsh matchups such as Zed - and honestly, you really couldn't go wrong with taking Barrier against someone like Zed and Talon as well as the new Akali - all of which can easily kill you unless you kill them first. Despite this, I would say not to since it can be replaced with your Aria of Perseverance, which will provide you with a mini barrier and heal. As long as you keep your health up with heals, they really shouldn't be able to oneshot you as long as they are not fed a kill or two. Also, you lose your kill potential with it - which is REALLY IMPORTANT on Sona as without it, you lose out on a major chance to fight back against your opponent. Cleanse is also occasionally used, and it isn't too bad on Sona against matchups like Lissandra, Twisted Fate, but once again, you lose the kill potential which you really need. All in all, although some of the summoner spells are half-decent/good, Ignite and Flash are the way to go!

We want to max out Hymn of Valor first because it is our main damage source other than our ultimate. Then Aria of Perseverance as it allows you to try to keep your health level stable and is a much better ability to level up over Song of Celerity. We level up Song of Celerity last as we don't really need the movement speed or the slow as much as the other abilities to level up this before the others. Of course, remember to level up your ultimate Crescendo when you can as when you can level it up, it has a higher priority to level up than the others.
The reason why this is here is that it really helps towards your burst damage throughout the game. Hextech Revolver has the unique passive of 'Magic Bolt'. This passive causes a shock of magic damage (scaling with level) to occur once every 40 seconds when you basic attack an enemy champion. Although Hextech Revolver does not trigger Electrocute because apparently for Sona it doesn't count as a pseudo-spell, the damage that this item deals from just a single Q and an auto attack will be very high, in most cases, it will knock out nearly half the enemy champions hp long as they are squishy - sometimes, a little more. As the game progresses and you gain more AP and more items, the amount of burst dealt to squishies are increased to the point where the Q+Auto combo will do most to all of their health. However, later in the game, this item can either be upgraded (which I personally don't like to do because 1. The use of the upgraded items are not easy to use as they require you to get close to an enemy champion and that is never good and 2. There are other better options that will both either maximise your damage, increase cooldown reduction, or both) or sold for another item such as a Luden's Echo or whatever you think you need depending on the situation.
As for most of the other items I've listed, I have put notes to them (At least, there should be, but people can make mistakes so please tell me if there are notes missing on the items above - Thanks in advance).
In teamfights, aim to knock out the squishy champions and wait for the right moments to use your ultimate as it could be the thing that wins or loses you the fight. Try to avoid accidentally auto-attacking an enemy champion if you are unable to get the rest of your main burst out to follow up with it or if you will not be able to get out afterwards - Safety takes priority. However, if you can't reach the squishies due to problems like tanks being in the way, no problem, just focus the tank until you can reach the squishies in the back, your magic damage will be high enough to do sufficient damage towards tanks and still have enough juice to take out a lot of the squishies health. In the possible case this situation occurs, just remember, wait for an opportunity, then ult, afterwards, either go forward and aim to waste the enemy carries or squishies, or back off and deal damage to the closest problem and let you teammates carry the fight for you.
