Introduction

I am writing this guide because I usually play main tank and find myself winning most games. However, throughout the last 250 games I have noticed a very distinct role is present when my team really brings the hurt. Off Tank/Aura bot.

There are obviously more champs that fit the bill here (i.e. blitzcrank), but listed above are some of my particular favorites (in no particular order) .

You will notice that all of the builds above are nearly identical. This is because the role that this guide describes has a very specific core build (see items section), that allows for a perfect balance between health, armor, magic resist and ability power. While at the same time, providing the auras that give your team "Fed Stats".

Fed Stats - Because your team is doing their best to keep up on feed and most have a similar progression (levels and money), adding auras during team fights promotes the stats of your teammates to what they would be when fed.

Skill Sequence

Almost all skill progressions above will follow a simple set of rules.
  1. CC is first spell.
  2. Max your primary damage spell at level nine.
  3. Get one rank of all spells by level six.
  4. Secondary spell is support (i.e. heal, an aura, etc.) and should be maxed by 13.
  5. Level ult at levels 6, 11, 16 (don't wait)

This is of course situational and should not be taken as law. For example, if you need heal to be ranked up right away instead of your primary damage spell, Do It!

Runes & Masteries

Runes are simple. When following this these builds, you will be forsaking defensive stats for the first 25% - 35% of the game. This means that you need to offset that with your runes. This is done by taking flat defensive runes (Armor seals, Magic resist glyphs and Health quints).

For marks, I take Magic pen. because my build doesn't provide much in the way of penetration stats (aside from Abyssal Scepter).

For masteries, I pretty much stick to the standard caster set (9/0/21) focusing on caster stats, movement speed, exp and improved summoner skills.

Items

Personal Improvement Items

These will be your first completed items. You need them to be viable in team fights.

Primary Aura/Defense Items (Core)

These items are the focus of this guide. They provide a large amount of defense while also providing other helpful stats to you and your teammates. These items provide, what we call, fed stats to the team. Once you have all of them, you will be making your underfed allies viable again, middle of the road allies will become fed and fed allies will become unstoppable.

Other/Situational Items

The defensive items are pretty much "Get what you need" (i.e. FoN = Movement speed + Magic resist + health regen vs Banshee's = Magic resist + health + mana + spell shield).

The Items that provide AP are really only viable if you "Really" don't need the extra defensive stats (rarely), in which case i like to grab up a WotA for the additional aura. However, if you have an awesome mana = health passive (singed or blitz) you should get something that is created from tear of the goddess (Archangel's Staff or Manamune).

Team Work

Your Role

As an off tank, your job is pretty much the same as the main tank (keep the squishies alive). The only difference is you cant do it as long and your damage is much higher.

You are kind of a jack of all trades, tanking when necessary, dealing good damage and radiating awesomeness (auras).

The Team Fight

Stand front and center with the main tank, the two of you should be able to stop all skill shots and control the engage. Use CC on highest threat (the fed damage dealer).
Stop the chasing attacker from getting to your ranged squishy. Stop the enemy from fleeing. so on and so on...
