An introduction to Full Armor Penetration Build

This build is about combining everything this champion NEEDS and making you a total monster, 70%+ TENACITY, 58% ARMOR PENETRATION, 24% ARMOR REDUCTION 3300+HP, 600AD and insanely big sustain with the combination of your Decimate, Death's Dance and Elixir of Wrath that will be MULTIPLIED with Spirit Visage by 30%! Spirit Visage is one of the most IMPORTANT items for this build, far stronger and more useful than Sterak's Gage cause of its benefits from the 30% BONUS HEALING not from your skills/runes but also from your teammates that will heal you

To create a build, you need to understand some certain things
1. The role of each champion in teamfights
2. The strengths
3. The weaknesses

So lets talk about these for now.
Darius is a champion that always has been a monster for the players that don't know how to play against, but in the end, an easily to counter champion. Kite is always the best way to win against darius, but even in melee range you can dodge the 65% of its Q damage just by stepping close to him!
So the role Darius is teamfights is just as you can imagine it, KILL EVERY SINGLE TARGET! And with the way we will play him here, you will be able to do it easily!

What makes a build strong "late game" is how you can handle all kind of targets. Be it FULL TANKS or SQUISHES, darius will do the SAME (Almost) AMOUNT OF DAMAGE! Why is that? The answer is simple, cause of the combination of Lord Dominik's Regards and Black Cleaver that together with Apprehend will let you reach:
58% Armor Penetration and 24% Armor reduction! The %Armor Pen, apply in the full amount, before the %armor reduction take place! So that means, that any kind of target will be left with a mere of 18% of its armor. If the target got 100 ARMOR, he will always have 18 armor against you to "sustain" your insanely big damage.

To talk in real numbers, 18 armor means that the target will REDUCE only the 15% of your physical damage INSTEAD of 50% (of a 100 armor target)
So if for example your Q doing 1000 dmg, to a target with 100 armor (without our build) you would do 500 damage and with our build you will do 850 DAMAGE!

The DAMAGE numbers you are about to see are ALL REAL and TESTED:

Target amount of armor: 100

So 100 armor target with 3 items only completed ( Black Cleaver Trinity Force Lord Dominik's Regards)
Conqueror fully stacked together with your Hemorrhageand Black Cleaver
means 1 Crippling Strike will do

Now with the the Full Build, the damage is going to be:
Basic attack: 500+ dmg
Crippling Strike towards ANY target: 1100+
That means that with each hit- Crippling Strike instant combo, you will do more than 1600 DAMAGE to any target, No matter how much armor he will got, you will always do more than 1500 damage!
While your Decimate doing 700 DAMAGE to everything around you!
CD of your skills lvl 18, 40% CDR:
Q: 3sec, W: 3sec, E: 7.2sec, R: 54sec (Refreshed with each kill with it)

With this build Darius will have total of ‭3,382.2‬ HP and with his Hemorrhage activated around 600 AD full Build!! While of course having 70%+ Tenacity, 58% armor penetration and 24% armor reduction!
Become a really strong late game Assassin/Fighter/Tank Champion. You will be able to deal
an insanely big amount of damage to ANY KIND OF TARGET!
Secret Behind Runes
With these runes we focus on doing PURE DAMAGE, while having a combination of DAMAGE and SUSTAIN at the same time and grow stronger as we go to full late game!

Lets talk about the combinations and why is worth:
We will be playing with Precision + Resolve

For Precision

Conqueror Extra AD and 15% HEAL, this means, while this rune is activated(and it will stay activated cause of your Hemorrhage) any damage will be done by your Hits-Skills-Ulti will be converted to HEAL! By combining that with Lord Dominik's Regards, Black Cleaver and Apprehend not only you will do CLOSE TO PURE damage every time, but you will also receive an insanely big amount of HEAL back!
Triumph Extra GOLD per kill/assist plus % of missing health as heal!
Legend: Tenacity One of the MOST IMPORTANT runes for Darius cause you will gain 30% Tanacity plus another 30% from Mercury's Treads and be a monster with 51% Tenacity, making all the cc duration to be half!
Coup de Grace Extra % damage to low health targets plus extra AD after each kill/assist
For Resolve:
Second Wind This rune, together with Doran's Shield will make you a LANE PHASE EARLY monster, you wont play with anything else, except this! After taking damage from an enemy champion, gain health regeneration equal to 6 (+ 4% of your missing health) over 10 seconds.
Revitalize One of the MOST POWERFUL runes for Darius, cause of this rune you will have 5% bonus HEALS and SHIELDS that going up to 15% when below 40% HP, that means that together with Spirit Visage you will increase your healing by 45% making you a TOTAL MONSTER!

So what we have here, DAMAGE-HEAL from Conqueror- Coup de Grace and a combination of SUSTAIN and insanely big TENACITY from any other rune!
This is the ONLY and by far the STRONGEST runes that you can play for this champion.
Let me tell you some more info aobut WHY!
Your Conqueror the moment it will becomes activated will start applying INSTANTLY PURE damage and HEAL you, cause of your Hemorrhage this passive skills is the reason Darius is such a big threat LATE GAME! Cause it will do
maximum of 65 − 150 (based on level) (+ 150% bonus AD) physical damage over the 5 seconds. Imagine that with your Hemorrhage you also earning 230 BONUS AD while having it fully stacked, so if you combine all the "bonus AD" from the champion you will realize that its around 480, that means, your passive alone will do 150 + 480 = 630 Damage over 5 seconds, that means 126 damage per sec and the 15% of that amount (10 Dmg/heal) will be converted into DAMAGE and HEAL!

Also if the target is below 40% HP cause of Coup de Grace you will start doing 8% BONUS DAMAGE, so you need to apply that on top of everything else to realize the true damage of this champion!
Secret Behind Items
Lets start with the Items and our Items Strategy (and detailed explanation about WHY we are getting them). I come up with this build after hundreds of different combinations, to create this final build that cant lose vs ANYTHING and ANYONE!
Before we start, I am sure that people that wont even bother read the entire build will "judge" a book from its cover. So you know how "important" its their opinion to us!

So lets get go down to details and numbers about HOW and WHY we will play Darius with the strongest build that ever created!

Start items, no matter WHAT or WHO you got against you, you will always buy Doran's Shield together with Health Potion
The reason is simple, Doran's Shield together with Second Wind will give you 2 of the most powerful early to late game effects that will make you durable early and impossible to kill champion! Except of course it will give you 80HP that will help you sustain even more!
Lets talk about the effects:
Doran's Shield: UNIQUE: After taking damage from an enemy champion, gain health regeneration equal up to 30 (based on current missing health) over 10 seconds.
Second Wind: After taking damage from an enemy champion, gain health regeneration equal to 6 (+ 4% of your missing health) over 10 seconds.
Together with your Decimate that giving you Heal for Health icon 15% − 45% (based on enemy champions hit by the blade) missing health.
To go as DARIUS with these 3 combined from 10% to 70%+HP within a short amount of time is EASILY and SCARY at the same time!
Then you got 1050 Gold will get 2 Doran's Blade and Refillable Potion and now its the big question "Why to get 2 Doran's Blade my "pro friend" saying its bad" Ok lets go down to numbers then, for you to LEARN exactly the reason.

Doran's Blade As all start items, got 134+% to 300+% Gold efficiency for their stats. That means that the actual gold of the stats that it gives are not worth of 450 Gold, but 600 Gold gold instead! (Its 200% for Doran's Ring and up to 300% for the fully stacked Dark Seal)
To win a game you need to win lane phase EASILY, then be insanely powerful MID-Game and the STRONGEST LATE GAME. Thats how important this is, lets go into more details
Doran's Blade will give you 8 AD, 80 HP and 3% Lifesteal with 450 gold, together with your Doran's Shield and 2 of your Doran's Blade you will have
16 AD, 240 HP, 6% Lifesteal, Bonus dmg to creeps, regain and more regain while fighting
Doran's Shield stats are going up to 200% Gold efficiency cause of its passive, that means that your items will be worth:
2110 GOLD while you actually paid 900 Gold(cause the Doran's Shield will be from lvl 1, total together with it, its 1350 Gold), also you will sell those items for 180 gold EACH, that actual means that the gold of the item (cause its a TEMP ITEM) its 270 Gold. So you got 2110 Gold Worth of TEMP stats (that you will sell to get your items later on) for 270 x 3 = 810 Gold!

So the reason we are winning 100% of the LANE PHASES in our games is as simply as it sounds, THIS. We are getting MORE STATS from what the enemy got, imagine fighting a champion with Tiamat that cost 1325 Gold While you on the other hand got 2110 gold worth of stats with the same actual TOTAL COST.
Most people playing Tiamat FIRST ITEM cause they are misguided by people who have no idea how to game really works, wasting a huge amount of gold for an item that will give them ZERO SUSTAIN and they wont be able to survive lane phase against a decent enemy. The moment I am seeing people playing with Tiamat first item, i know that their score will start with 0 and ends with 10+ EVERY SINGLE TIME, those who are watching my gameplays and streams, knows EXACTLY what I am saying!

So lets continue with the explanation, cause if you think its JUST THAT, then you are mistaken, cause this game got one more thing that people will never talk about.
This is the insight of that explains how the game actual works here by our friend Aw3s0me:

EHP Calculation & Info
Darius | Doran's Shield:
EHP generation of Darius lvl1 with 0 items and 1x Doran's Shield +80hp.
As well as Darius lvl5 with 0 items and 1 Doran's Shield, 2x Doran's Blade +240hp.
- All Platforms include the equal EHP amount in Armor stats to compare the worth at all areas related to all units addable withstanding stats.
- Ofc cost and ItemTyp.

What's that?
Lets create a fictive lvl1 unit okay:
Health: 574 | ADr: 38 | APr: 32

Now incoming 574 damage would not kill this unit.
But the Healthbar show us the health of the unit?
Well the natural given and increasing resistance stats of that unit, reduces the actual incoming damage down.

So lets say at 730 dmg our unit dies.
This 730, is therefor your true actualy health against this DamageTyp.
This is called EHP.
E ffective H ealth P oints

EHP takes your BasicHealth+ ArmorTyps into account to calculate the units true withstanding number against all DamageTyps. EHP.

It's even to read at lol's own wiki at point "Effective Health". Read it!

This said, lets go check Darius
at lvl 1 with 0 items EHP
and Darius lvl1 with 1x Doran's Shield added health stats, +80hp.
- Ready ?

Darius EHP calculation lvl1:
0 items
HP: 580 | ADr: 39 | APr: 32
AgainstAD: 806 EHP <~ True Health
AgainstAP: 766 EHP <~ True Health

Darius lvl1 +1× Doran's Shield (+80hp):
(Without its passive of regain)
HP: 660 | ADr: 39 | APr: 32
AgainstAD: 917 EHP <~ True Health
AgainstAP: 871 EHP <~ True Health

AgainstAD: 917 - 806 = +111 EHP not 80!
AgainstAP: 871 - 766 = +105 EHP
not 80!

Adding 80 BasicHealth on lvl1 Darius, actualy increases our withstanding vs both DmgTyps not by 80 points but by 111 & 105 .
Which is 31 & 25 points more as stated by items and BasicHealthBar.
The HealthBar is only showing the BasicHealth of a unit.
Not it's true withstanding point.
A lie.
Only EHP enables to see behind the first wall of numbers to see the truth.

Let's go, check how much Armor and Mress we would need to add, instead BasicHealth, to generate the equal amount of additonal EHP:

Darius lvl1:
HP: 580 | ADr: 39 | APr: 32
AgainstAD: +19,1 Armor to gain +111 EHP.
AgainstAP: +18,1 Mress to gain +105 EHP.

This means, adding on a lvl1 Yorick, +80 BasicHealth, is equal adding instead:
+ 19,1 Armor AND +18,1 Mress

Result 1× Doran's Blade:
+8 ADdmg [Damage]
+3% LifeSteal [StatsREgain]
+80 hp [Sustain]
which is equal adding:
(+19,1 Armor & 18,1 Mress)

Per Item EHP generation:

vsAD: 3 ÷ 372 = +124 EHP , not 111, not 80!
vsAP: 3 ÷ 328 = +109 EHP , not 105, not 80!

Hold on:
Watch again the numbers:
124 > 111 > 80

You see the UPscaling worth of EHP, the longer used on a unit.
SINCE your units BasicHealth and ArmorTyps increased natural over leveling up (×4), each Doran's Blade starts to generate MORE EHP.
The stats generation is expotential growing.
↗ UPscaling the longer it is used, and therefor increases it's own worth.

Let's go, check how much Armor and Mress we would need to add, instead *+240 BasicHealth, to generate the equal amount of additonal EHP:*

Darius lvl 5:
HP: 1.131 | ADr: 51.4 | APr: 36
AgainstAD: +42 Armor to gain also 372 EHP
AgainstAP: +36,6 Mress to gain also 328 EHP

Result Darius lvl 5, 2 Doran's Blades and 1 Doran's Shield:
+16 ADdmg [Damage]
+6% LifeSteal [StatsRegain] (plus extra HP regain from the shield)
+240hp [Sustain]
which is equal adding:
(+42 Armor & 33,5 Mress)

Bonus: 0


And this all for
3× 450




Doran's Ring and Blade are
Temporary_Items .
Tempo items are never bought.
The invested gold are Rent Fees!!
Temporary Items are made to fill empty slots .
[Remember the golden rule since Dota1:
An empty slot is a lost opportunity to add stats/power on a unit!
That's the job of Tempo items.]

SINCE we will 100% sell those items at a given point durring the match, we just currently invest gold and gain parts from it back!

What are the true costs/rent fee now?

Doran's Blade:
1.350 - 540 = 810 gold truely invested as Rent Fee.
810÷3= 270 gold per Doran's Blade/Shield

Rent fee:
At match duration 20min, your first bought Doran's Blade truely cost:
per min 13,5 gold .
(1,5gold more/min as D'Ring)


If a player can manage to be
1 Minion ahead of the enemy
Per Doran's Blade,
he gains all stats for free.

After clearing all the details related to Doran's Blade, and why
keeping them as long as possible is more then worth by their expotential ↗ UPscaling EHP generation vs both DmgTyps as well as adding all needed stats on:

For such a low amount of true invested gold,...
We can by fact tell:
Doran's Items and DarkSeal, are the cheapes and most stats,
providing items for the early game phase and on top UPscaling into midgame.

I hope this should clear any aspects to your questions related to Doran's Blade.

At lvl 1 Darius added Doran's Blade generated 111/105 EHP, can't be further reduced by ArmorPen then 80.
Raw added BasicHealth, provides an auto blockading vs ArmorPen.
So at max -10 to -25% only possible to reduce the generated EHP. Compared to ArmorTyps stats added, which can be nulled by ArmorPen at certain situations.
So Doran's Items add a Armor pen Blockade to uphold it's own withstanding at minimum +75%.

Why we look at lvl1 and lvl5?
- Those are the keypoints Balori/Players are able to buy those items in general, and see their direct impacting InGame to the unit.


So now that we finished WHY ITS Important to play like this early. We will talk about the next items

After your 3 dorans you will start building your Black Cleaver so your next item will always be Phage together of course with a Boots, Phage will give you what you need to destroy your enemies, AD, HP and movement speed bonus to reach and destroy your enemies!
REMEMBER and this is IMPORTANT, we are not selling the Doran's Blade or Doran's Shield before we start building our 3RD ITEM that is going to be Last Whisper, the only thing that you will sell is your refillable position
After finishing Black Cleaver you will finish your boots as well Mercury's Treads ITS IMPORTANT to get this boots ALL THE TIME, no matter who is playing against you, cause the combination of the tenacity from: Mercury's Treads and Legend: Tenacity will make you IMPOSSIBLE TO BE STOPPED! From any kind of CC or slow, cause you will have 51% Tenacity!
Then, its time to move to the next item that is going to be Trinity Force,
first you will get(ALWAYS) your Sheen, what we need with trinity force is its insane STATS (of course) but also its activate effect, that means the 200% Bonus AD as damage, with Sheen you will use the half of this effect with only 1050 gold!
Shen together with Black Cleaver will create something amazingly powerful,
24% armor reduction together with the armor penetration from your Apprehend will make any target DIE almost INSTANTLY! Also you will have the following stats
+40 attack damage
+30% cooldown reduction
+400 health
+250 mana
together with the stats of course from the Dorans items!
So with 30% CDR so early, you will be ready to just play as aggressive as you want! Your runes + with your Decimate that will already have 3.5 seconds CD will make you a MONSTER! The moment you apply the stacks from Conqueror, Black Cleaver and Hemorrhage NO MATTER WHO or WHAT is against you WILL DIE!!
And all that without even finishing the second completed item!!

After finishing Trinity Force and remember you will just go back and buy the entire item, try not to sell anything EXCEPT if its impossible to do so and need 180 gold, then sell only 1 Doran's Blade, not the Doran's Shield its important to have it till full late game!
You will get your first part of Lord Dominik's Regards that is Last Whisper at this point with only 1450 gold, you will have 20% BONUS ARMOR PEN, from this item, that means that your already big damage will become even DEADLIER!!
After this, you can either finish Lord Dominik's Regards and gain this bonus 15% armor pen more, or go instantly for Death's Dance OR Spirit Visage, both of these items are important, there are times, where to get Spirit Visage will be better, cause you will have the gold to get Spectre's Cowl faster as a cheaper item, that will work GREATLY with the combination of Doran's Shield and Second Wind we talked about above! Cause this item, will give you even more REGAIN when they are hitting you and of course some extra magic resist and HP(more sustain)!
So to what you will finish after Last Whisper depends on the situation you are in!
If you got high amount of magic damage against you, a very fed LB for example, then to go for Spectre's Cowl and Spirit Visage will be a good choice!

So always remember, at the point where you only got 2 items to complete Death's Dance or Spirit Visage its up to you to decide, but you will ALWAYS but ALWAYS get these 2 items for the following reasons,
Death's Dance will give you DAMAGE, extra sustain cause you will take the burst damage as "damage over time" cause of its effect and the most importantly 15% of any source of damage as HEALTH BACK, together with your Elixir of Wrath that you will get NO MATTER WHAT, you will have 15% + 15% = 30% health back from physical damage, that means, hits, skills even your PASSIVE will give you HP back(as we talked about it above with the Conqueror rune effect)
At this point you are a LATE GAME MONSTER, there is absolute nothing that can stop you, cause you simply will do 1000+ damage with one Crippling Strike and 500+ damage with just your BASIC ATTACKS!
Your Decimate will be doing 700+ DMG to everything around you and healing you on top of that like CRAZY! Up to 45% of your missing health!
Also cause of Triumph you will get ANOTHER 12% of your missing health back after each kill/assist.
Imagine it now, in a full late game teamfight, totally unstoppable from CC and at the same time while doing 1000+dmg to multi targets each 3 seconds!

And thats the "secret" behind our items. This is by FAR the most powerful build that you can possible play on darius and carry your games with EASE!

So your FULL BUILD will look like this:
Black Cleaver Trinity Force Mercury's Treads Lord Dominik's Regards Death's Dance Spirit Visage plus Elixir of Wrath
Strategy To Follow
There are some things that people keep forgetting about what is importance in this game, so we will start with these 2:
1: Creeps-Farm: The most important thing is to focus on your farm, you need to farm fast and if you can kill all the creeps without missing even one it will be even better. This way you will take the lead from your enemy champion, dont be afraid to use your skills for last hits even at the 1 level.

Stay Alive: To not to die at lane and not have any kills is more worth than to be 3-3 or 4-4 with your enemy Lane champion.
Your build focusing to be the strongest at the MID-Late game, doesn't matter if you cant kill now, focus on farm and you will be able to show your true Strength at the right time of the game.

So you need to ALWAYS no matter what champion you playing to improve these two, farm better, stay alive, if you are not confident in your skills, always ask for junglers help!!

So now that we finished that lets continue about how to play with Darius there are certain things that making EASY for Darius to farm and make our life much easier, FIRST his Decimate that doing lots of AOE damage and can instant kill the creeps in some situations (practice to get the hp just right all game long)
SECOND, his Crippling Strike that If Crippling Strike kills its target it refunds its Mana cost and half of its Cooldown reduction.
That means that you can use it all the time to LAST hit if you want, especially early this is super important!
So farm with Darius is easy, but still you need to FULL FOCUS ON THAT!
For the "engages" the best way is to hit your enemy champions as well together with the creeps with your Q while farming, this will be "ideal" way, but it wont happen most of the times. So you need right now to see how to "engage" and "trade" with your enemies!
There are certain combos that you can use, easy and powerful!
If the target its melee and you are "fighting", use this, HIT then Instant Crippling Strike (This will reset your auto attack, so its going to be instant hit) then press Q Decimate while moving a little away from the target to apply the MAX DAMAGE and of your your Hemorrhage then you will hit him once more, use your Apprehend to bring him closer if he "try to escape" and then keep hitting, use W-Q combo again and if needed, after getting the full stacks from the Hemorrhage use your R to finish him off! Most of the times, especially with our build, to use your R wont even be important, cause simply your HIT-W will do more than 1600dmg!

If the enemy is RANGE Champion, then you need to start with Apprehend bring him close to you, then HIT him once, use Crippling Strike and use Decimate while moving a little away from the target to apply the max damage!

Overall these are the "basic" and most powerful "combos" that you can use, they are simple and EFFECTIVE, cause its focusing on stacking your, Conqueror, Black Cleaver and Hemorrhage with the best way possible while of course doing TONS OF DAMAGE!
Don't be afraid if you are "losing HP", your Decimate giving you HP back while hitting the target with the EDGE OF THE AXE, so that means together with your Doran's Shield, Second Wind and Decimate to lose a "Trade" is going to be almost IMPOSSIBLE! Cause after stacking your Conqueror you will start regaining even MORE HP easy!

In lane phase things are easy, but in teamfights things are EVEN EASIER, at least for this champion, cause your job is to simple keep using your Q and focus on 1 target with your HIT-W combo, focus on that target, keep using your Q and at the right time use your R to finish him off and move to the NEXT TARGET, to stop you is going to be IMPOSSIBLE, cause with 70% Tenacity, the 1 sec stun will be 0.3 seconds any kind of cc will be NOTHING infront of you, you will just MOVE FORWARD and keep spamming your Q with 3 seconds CD and of course your W-E to bring people "close" and kill them!

Thats how to play Darius, what you need know, is simple to start playing and get EXPERIENCE, cause no matter how many guides you will read, the most important comes from within you, how to PLAY THE CHAMPION with your own hands!!
And I am 100% sure you will destroy them all easier!! Darius is easy and fun, and I am sure you will have tons of fun while learning how to play this champion my way!!
Reason Behind My Spells
Lots of my Subs and followers from YouTube and social asking me "Why are you not playing with teleport TOP?"
and the answer is simple and i will give it to all of you as well.

Im playing always with Flash and Ignite Top, for the following reason, Teleport is a skill for any of players don't have enough confident in theirselves that they can DESTROY the enemy TOP laner.
Its as simple as that, Teleport can be used to Come back after a fast back or go to other lane and "Help" your team.
The reason all playing with Teleport is cause they want to find the "easy" answer behind the top lane "go help others and exp there", i cant judge them really, but if you really want to say yourself that you actually won the TOP Lane then you need to do it SOLO.
Darius with Ignite is something insanely dangerous, cause after finish your Hemorrhage the damage that you will do PER SECOND is going to be INSANE, so even with just activating Ignite is some situations will kill the target without the need to "chase him" to be sure he will die!

Also I saw people playing Darius with Ghost something really weak cause they are not realizing that you can easily escape from a "fast" darius, but you cant escape from the DAMAGE PER SEC that will be on you till the end of the ignite, together with the "healing effects" reduction by it!

TIP: Lots of you will think "but when my team need me i can teleport there", NO. You dont need to teleport there. You can be there by foot, or if you cant be there continue with the OBJECTIVES, push your lane destroy towers take Dragons with your jungler etc.
Almost every rush TP to help BOT or MID Lane end up by being all DEAD together with you.
Cause when you TP, you suddenly change the entire MAP Phase, you going somewhere where you will be 100% seen and try to either Dodge your skills or Kill you first.
So go by foot, and go from behind them by using the FOR OF WAR.
