Introduction

Welcome to the reworked Pantheon: assassin to tank guide.

Ok so the old build was more off-tank than tank, so I have reworked the build. You will get much better early game damage and survivability as well as late game tankiness.

Masteries

offense tree I take masteries which boost his attack damage, as well as Sorcery to reduce his ability cooldowns, and Summoner's Wrath for exaust. In the utility tree I take Expanded Mind and Meditation to counter his mana dependency, and Summoner's Insight to reduce the cooldown of Flash.

Runes

  • greater quintessence of desolation: Armour penetration quints work well on Pantheon, as he can kill tankier enemies faster.
  • greater mark of desolation: More armour penetration, yay!
  • greater seal of replenishment: These seals are good to counter his mana dependency.
  • Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: Provides resistance against mages.

Summoner Spells

Flash is very good for escaping over walls or behind enemies if you get caught out on low health. It is also useful if you need to close the gap between you and a fleeing enemy.

Exhaust is an additional debuff to stop the enemy from escaping or to flee from an enemy.

Teleport is useful for getting back to lane after you die or helping out in another lane.

Ghost is similar to flash, it is sometimes preferable to flash as it can help for traveling long distances faster.

Ignite is less preferable to Exhaust since it can only finish of a weak foe, but Pantheon already has Spear Shot for this. Exhaust also works as an escape when Flash or Ghost is down, so I generally take Exhaust instead.

Skill Sequence and Explanation

Aegis Protection can be used to block attacks from turrets, attacks from champs with a strong basic attack such as Tryndamere, and blocking abilities that proc on hit effects such as Gangplank and his Parrrley or Ezreal and his Mystic Shot. Remember, Aegis Protection will also block abilities that enhance basic attacks such as Nasus and his Siphoning Strike.

Spear Shot is your main damage and harass spell. It is also a good finisher as it deals 150% damage to low health targets once you get a point in Heartseeker Strike. You should be constantly harassing with this spell to get your target low enough to kill and to zone your opponent away from getting last hits. Take Spear Shot first for the harass and max it immediately after you get a point in Aegis of Zeonia and Heartseeker Strike.

Aegis of Zeonia is the spell you will use when you have harassed them hard and are going in for the kill. You should activate Heartseeker Strike immediately after using this spell to deal extra damage. Aegis of Zeonia is also useful for chasing down fleeing enemies. Take this spell second and max it last.

Heartseeker Strike deals much less damage than Spear Shot, requires enemies to be in melee range and has a longer cooldown. However this spell deals a significant amount of damage once you get Bloodthirster, and it gives a good passive. Take Heartseeker Strike third and max it second, as it deals more damage than Aegis of Zeonia.

Grand Skyfall deals a significant amount of aoe damage, and is a useful teleport as well. This spell is best used to gank enemies attacking your tower, initiating team fights, or ganking a lone enemy champion. Be wary when using Grand Skyfall that enemies can see it coming, and may move out of the way or prepare to kill you. Take a point in this spell whenever you can.

Early Game Items

Doran's Blade gives damage, health and lifesteal for very cheap, so it is an excellent early game item. I take three of these to boost Pantheon's early game and sell them later on.

The Brutalizer negates the enemy's base armor early game, and hence increases your effective damage drastically.

Boots of Swiftness will allow you to chase down your enemy and get more auto attacks off before they get away, and increase your chances of getting the kill. They will also help you dodge skillshots more effectively and cross the map faster. Mercury's Treads are also a good choice.

Mid - Late Game Items

Giant's Belt gives health which makes you harder to kill.

Guardian Angel gives a lot of survivability and makes you less likely to be focused due to the passive. Should be replaced with Thornmail or Force of Nature if their team is AD or AP heavy.

Atma's Impaler is your sole source of late game damage, allowing you to keep dealing significant damage to the enemy team even though you are building tanky.

Warmog's Armor fully stacked gives over 1000 health and adds to your attack damage due to the passive from Atma's Impaler.

Banshee's Veil gives an awesome shield which can save your life from Karthus's Requiem or when using Grand Skyfall to escape (which you should try to avoid).

Frozen Mallet adds to your health and damage as well as giving an awesome passive which can stop the enemy from getting away.

Optional and Situational Items

A good tanky item when the enemy team has lots of AD. Has a passive which slows them when they hit you and an active which slows them a lot.

Gives health and armor, the two stats needed to be generally more tanky, as well as an OK passive.

If your team is exceptionally squishy this item can help a lot.

In my opinion this item is not very good for Pantheon. It gives a good passive but it is super expensive and gives a lot of stats that you don't need.

Great against a CC heavy team, has a very handy Cleanse-like effect.

If you are getting extremely fed buy this and the next two items instead of your tank build.

If you auto attack more than most or you fancy Pantheon as a carry you can take this. I suggest taking this instead of your tank build if you are getting extremely fed. Best coupled with Phantom Dancer.

See above.

emblem of valour If you are taking Infinity Edge instead Bloodthirster and you want lifesteal, this is a great replacement. It is exceptional for early game sustainability, can be coupled with a mana regen item such as Chalice of Harmony for lots of sustainability.

If you built emblem of valor you can easily build into this item. Note however that this is only good if you auto attack a lot.

If you are laning with a support you can tell them to get this item. It helps you spam abilities and offers great sustainability.

Use this if you want to ability spam and you are laning against casters.

Another good item for ability spam. Start with Meki Pendant and upgrate into this after the bruitaliser. You can upgrade this into Manamune if you like.

Bloodthirster for ability spammers. I generally don't take this over other AD items as it requires auto-attacks to get mana to use for abilities. If you want to ability spam with this item you will need to auto attack a lot to make up the stacks. The AD bonus is also very mediocre even with full stacks.

Take these if their team is CC or AP heavy.

Take these if you want to ability spam. Best coupled with mana regen such as Mana Manipulator, Tear of the Goddess or Chalice of Harmony.

Dominion

Pantheon in dominion doesn't have the same dependencies as Pantheon in summoner's rift.

Firstly, his mana dependency is gone, you are much less likely to run out of mana as dominion doesn't involve sustained laning. Due to this, I have replaced greater seal of replenishment for Greater Seal of Armor and 9 points in the utility mastery tree for 9 points in the defense tree.

Secondly, Pantheon is almost as powerful late game as he is at the start of the game. As a result, I have built him for maximum damage output, while still retaining some form of sustainability ( Frozen Mallet + Atma's Impaler).

Finally, as with all champions on dominion, boots which favor speed such as Mobility Boots and Boots of Swiftness much better than boots which give stats such as Mercury's Treads.

Dominion Items

This build gives all of the bonus stats needed to play Pantheon successfully in dominion: AD, Health, Armor, ArP and a movement speed bonus.

Mobility Boots are by far the best boots for dominion. They help a lot for capturing points. I take these first to capture the top point and secure the edge for my team.

Youmuu's Ghostblade gives an awesome active which can make short work of your enemies. It also gives AD and ArP which are crucial stats for Pantheon.

Frozen Mallet gives a ton of health as well as a handy slow. This health is later turned into AD by Atma's Impaler.

Atma's Impaler gives more AD, as well as an armor and crit chance boost.

Sanguine Blade makes you deal a lot more damage and regenerate health as you attack enemies.

Dominion Optional Items

If you prefer the constant enhanced movement 3 for chasing the inevitably fleeing enemy over the fast early movement given from Mobility Boots take these.

Essentially the Frozen Mallet that favors AD. Make sure to remove Atma's Impaler if you choose to use this item.

A very good item on dominion. I recommend this item instead of Atma's Impaler if you choose Entropy over Frozen Mallet.

If you feel like you need more armor penetration.

If you feel like you need more armor penetration.

Revive if you die, as well as armor and magic resist.

Another good replacement for Atma's Impaler if you should take Entropy.

Dominion Gameplay

Start with either Boots of Swiftness or Mobility Boots and quickly head to the top capture point using Ghost. Try to capture the point, if the enemy comes near you jump on them and kill them or make them flee, DO NOT CHASE AFTER THEM. Continue attacking the enemy so that your teammate or you can capture the turret while the other keeps holding off the enemy.

Once the point has been captured recall and buy the brutaliser. If the enemy are capturing one of your points head out and defend.

Continue to capture and defend point depending on what is neccesary. Remember that your main role should be defending points by using Grand Skyfall on champions who try to capture your points. Place the center of Grand Skyfall on the capture point as the ring goes invisible when you do this. Use the combo Aegis of Zeonia + Heartseeker Strike + Youmuu's Ghostblade + auto-attacks + Spear Shot.

Summary

In these builds I have shown a way to play Pantheon that makes him more tanky, while still maximizing his damage output. With this build Pantheon is much more viable late game, and can quickly solo enemies early game.
