[9.19] TILTING THE ENEMY-Stomp Solo Q with this Shaco Guide!

By DonaldBinBaggin
Who am I?
Hello everyone, my name is DonaldBinBaggin, I am a shaco main in OCE and I am the rank of Master!

CURRENT IGN: PoItron

I'm a veteran shaco player from the OCE server! I have peaked Challenger 159 LP in season 8 and Masters 102 LP in season 9. I have browsed through many different builds, many of which being the full lethality build. I especially like his ability to counter jungle early and the slick attributes that his kit has to allow him to live even though it seems impossible. Although season 9 has been harsh on shaco at times, I feel that shaco can still be played as a full lethality assasin and also an assasin/bruiser with the help of trinity force!

Status of this guide!
NOTE: This guide is intended for players that already know the basic mechanics to shaco, as I have not currently covered basic combos and such in this guide. I will indeed work towards adding more content for this guide in terms of basic combos, how to outplay and such.

This guide will be updated regularly and at every patch. I am currently working on making it more in depth, with the hopes of adding videos to demonstrate early clearing, counter jungling and ganking more easily. I hope you enjoy my guide and feel free to leave a comment and an upvote if you do enjoy! Thanks.
Why play Shaco? Is this the right guide for you?

Shaco is simply in my opinion, one of the most enjoyable characters to play in league of legends. The thrill you can get from stomping an enemy adc and killing them until they are 0/10/0 and tilted off the earth is fantastic! Although shaco's kit is best when used in the jungle, although he can be played in the lanes as AP or AD. His unique kit allows shaco to assassinate high priority targets with little counterplay if unaware of his presence. His combos and his ability to outplay always gives me a fun time playing him. If you are new to shaco and looking to pick him up, I would highly recommend him as he has some fairly simple combo's to pick up and with the help of this guide, you will be stomping your ranked games in no time!

Now, if you want your match history looking like this,

definitely give this guide a read, as I'm sure there is something in here that you will find helpful! This guide will be more for people that have played shaco before, and know his basic mechanics/kit so if you are just picking up shaco as a new champion, this guide will help you in most aspects but just not the combos.
Pros / Cons
These are all determined by build, play style, and skill level!

Pros

- Strong invades
- Exceptional damage during the mid game
- Fun to play
- Has many different build paths

Cons

- Difficult to master
- Must have good map awareness to counter jungle well
- Gets punished hard for mistakes
- Must build a duskblade to get damage
Rune explanations - ELECTROCUTE/SORCERY
NOTE: This is the best rune setup if you plan to buy Trinity Force.

DOMINATION TREE

Electrocute:

The most reliable keystone for Shaco this patch after dark harvest got gutted. Fleet Footwork is also a keystone that can be run, but i prefer Electrocute for the bonus burst damage it provides.

Sudden Impact:

Almost a must on shaco as you will always be getting that extra bit of lethality every time you Q into combat.

Eyeball Collection:

Now, this rune can be swapped out for zombie ward if you feel like you need some more vision control on the map. I take Eyeball Collection for the increased power when snowballing a lead.

Relentless Hunter:

The best option in this row. Out of combat move speed to help you roam and pressure objectives much more easily.

SORCERY TREE

Absolute Focus:

A pretty standard rune for junglers these days. It helps clear, and give some bonus AD to pack a punch.

Gathering Storm:

This rune combined with Absolute Focus will give you a nice amount of bonus AD at around the 20 minute mark. You can opt to take waterwalking over this if you wish to get a stronger early game and contest scuttle crabs more often.
Rune explanations - ELECTROCUTE/PRECISION
NOTE: Better for heavy ganking and map pressure!

DOMINATION TREE

Electrocute:

The most stable and reliable keystone for Shaco this patch.

Sudden Impact:

The best option in this row. Gives some nice lethality to help burst down opponents. A must have.
Eyeball Collection:

A very nice rune to have, especially when running electrocute as it allows you to snowball any lead you get that much faster.
Relentless Hunter:

This is honestly my favorite rune to take as a jungler. The bonus out of combat movement speed is huge and coupled with boots of mobility, you will be zooming around the map.

Precision

Alacrity:

Important on shaco as you need some attack speed for clearing camps and early skirmishers. Also very nice as the attack speed transfers on the clone too.
Coup de Grace:

Gives you a nice execute for low HP targets. Also gives you some extra adaptive damage for when you kill an enemy. A nice rune to have.
Item Buys
After ALWAYS rushing tiamat, you will want to get duskblade as soon as you can. This will give you a huge damage spike early on and allow you to easily pop high-value targets with ease. I don't recommend buying anything else before this besides boots and control wards. After buying this, you will most likely want to buy beserker greaves and yoummus ghostblade. By this point, you will most likely be doing close to true damage to the enemy adc, with your 39 lethality from items and an additional 7 lethality from sudden impact.

NOTE: Yoummus Ghostblade can be swapped out for Maw of Malmortius against heavy ap team comps, but will GREATLY decrease your ease of assassinating priority targets and thus, should be considered ideally only for bruiser shaco.

After this continue to go and buy Guardian Angel and Essence Reaver for more damage. Take Last whisper if the enemy carrys have armour items. Lastly, upgrade your tiamat to titanic or ravenous hydra depending on the burst.

In most scenarios, you will want to pick up either an LDR or a Mortal Reminder, as the enemy team will most likely be getting some form of armour.

NOTE: Tiamat should ALWAYS be upgraded last, as the stats from upgrading it aren't better than other item choices.

For the HYBRID shaco build, you will want to buy a dark seal first back, and then rush tiamat into a duskblade. Get mobility boots whenever you can. After that, build into a hextech gunblade, starting with hextech revolver. With these items, you will be able to one shot any squishy even through ninja tabis. Get a stopwatch after this, and build it into either a Guardian Angel, or a Zhonya's Hourglass depending on your playstyle. Feel free to sell your dark seal now, or upgrade it if you are very ahead and want to pressure your lead.
Early Jungle Clear - Blue Side

Please refer to the video above for an example of this clear.

Place the first box at the 29 second mark. This will be at the Red Buff.Place the next box down at the red buff, then continue to place the final two at the Krug camp. Once this is done, you will take the red buff, then proceed to take the Krugs. Once you have finished the Krugs, proceed to full clear your topside, starting with your wolves.

Note:
Using smite on the blue buff will ensure a fast and healthy clear!

Once you finish clearing your topside, proceed to take the top scuttle crab. After you have completed all of this, you will have lvl 4 and be able to gank either the top or middle lane!
Early Jungle Clear - Red Side

Please refer to the video above for an example of this clear.

Start by placing 2 boxes at the blue buff, with your first box being placed at 29 seconds. After you have completed this, you will want to put a box just out of range of the gromp. Put your 4th box on the blast cone aiming towards the wolf camp! Once you have completed this, start by taking the blue buff, then proceed to kill the gromp as well.

Note: Make sure you use Q as a gap closer between camps, this will increase your overall clear speed!

Take the blast cone over to the wolves and proceed to take all of them. After this,
you now have two options. You can either full clear your topside (Raptors - Red- Krugs) or you can take your Red Buff for level 3. If you choose to full clear, you will want to smite the Raptor camp as well as the Ancient Krug (the biggest krug in the camp). If you choose to take Red Buff, make sure you smite if and then proceed to look for a gank on either top or mid lane!
Early Game
This is referring to before you have purchased duskblade. You will want to be taking Dark Harvest, and because of this, farming your camps will be very important to help you stack and get gold for duskblade. After you have tiamat and beserker greaves, you will want to be farming up your camps efficiently, and looking for possible ganks/skirmishes that may arise. Try to take dragon control early, and at lvl 6 you will be able to solo it with your clone. DO NOT GO FOR RISKY PLAYS/DIVES EARLY GAME. You are not the strongest early game jungler out there, and although coupled with ignite you can almost 1v1 any other JUNGLER out there, you need to be wary of the map, as a simple facecheck could cost you your life and your lead.

Key Points to remember
Farm efficiently
Keep watch of the enemy jungler and their camps
If they are ganking on the opposite side of the map, use the opportunity to take their camps, gank or take an objective. (Drakes, Towers, Rift Herald etc.)

Mid Game
During mid game you will most likely be doing skirmishes of 2v2 3v3 etc. During this period you will just want to catch out people that are caught out. Pop them then fall back and reset. by this time you should have duskblade at least, using this damange with dark harvest will almost always result in a kill with a backstab.

This is your prime time as shaco, before the 5v5 team fights, where it is quite easy to find picks and deal damage before people get resistances. You NEED to make use of the kills you get, GET OBJECTIVES. Too many times, especially in lower elo games, people will get kills but not pressure a lead, but instead just go back to farming and freezing lane.
Late game and ending
Death timers are going to be very long now. Picks matter much more as it will lead to objectives. Hopefully by now you have taken a few towers and drakes. This will help you punish enemies even more for getting caught and dying. If your team has a good team fight comp, the best you can do is try 1 shot the carry in a team fight. Even if you are vulnerable in the middle of 4 enemies, you still have your R and Guardian Angel to survive, and the help of your team. One of two teamfights or a few good picks should be enough to end the game for you.
When to split push and when to group as Shaco
Split pushing on shaco is one of my FAVOURITE things to do. Shaco is a slippery champ that can get out of almost any predicament without having much trouble at all. The fact that shaco has a free extra champ in his kit gives him the power to shove down tower and inhibs quite quickly. If your teamfight isn't as strong as the enemy's split pushing is a good way to pressure the enemy without having to worry about teamfights. Looking at the map is ESSENTIAL to know when and how to push. If your team is able to hold and clear waves well enough in a 4v5 you should be able to split. When the enemy rotates down to you, either back out with your Q, or try and get a pick on a squishy that is unaware. If you do get a pick, try run back to your team and pressure objectives or breakout a 5v4 teamfight in your favour. Althought this is basic splitpushing 101 that i have been mentioning, shaco does have a unique backdoor ability, being able to q into the enemy base and being able to attack and open inhib with an extra 3 seconds, give you CRUCIAL time to use your clone and take out a free inhib. You will then be able to q away and regroup with your team. You must remember, that if there is a baron/drake objective open and you get caught, you have most likely just thrown the game for your team, so keep this is mind while splitting. Alternatively grouping and playing for picks as shaco is usually the better option. Take in mind that in mid-late game a pick on a carry with almost always will result in a winning teamfight for you and your team.
Playing from behind
This can be a major tilter, especially becuase the bonus xp from raptors etc has been removed. The best way to come back in terms of xp, is just to take red a blue buffs. Tax any free xp from laners while they are roaming/dead. Taking enemy red and blue buffs is a huge advantage too you, as it provides a good xp lead on your opponent and will slow down their pace, usually resulting in them unable to gank and having to farm up their jungle, during this time period, feel free to gank or try counter jungle for an easy kill. As shaco you do not want to be mass farming if you are behind as it will not help you come back into the game. It's better off pulling off some risky plays then to slowly lose.

NOTE: This chapter is aimed for mainly plat and below players, as from my experience this happens in those ranks the most. If you are diamond or above, these points aren't always going to be the best option, so use your better judgement on your situation.
Final Chapter
I hope all of you found something useful in my guide, please feel free to leave a comment on what you liked, disliked or your thoughts on what i could do better. This is my first mobafire guide and i intend to update it regually with new content, better builds and runes for future updates. Thanks!
