SEASON 3 IN A NUTSHELL

Ok, with exams starting soon I haven't really got the time to update other sections of this guide BUT that doesn't mean I won't be doing so! With many essential old items being removed or changed e.g. Force of Nature and Warmog's Armor, also with new ones being added like Runic Bulwark, mundo's playstyle has changed a lot. New auras are being introduced, so after some consideration and testing, I have come to the conclusion that either mundo be played as a tank support for the team that provides many auras and a bit of poke, or as an off-tank that focuses on auto attacking.

Introduction

Hello community, before reading this guide, please note that this is my first build so please don't be too harsh on the formatting or bb coding. I have used mundo many times and 90% of the time i have gotten a positive kd (although isn't that important). This build is mainly focused on tankyness. I'm a lvl 30 playing on the NA severs and i wrote this build because it is what i usually use and this build suites me the best. I wrote this build because i have seen many mundo builds and none of them really suited my playstyle/ plain sucks so i made my own build and guide to suite my own play style. Hopefully you will like my playstyle too and adapt to it :) BTW, when you read the guide, some bits might be messed up as in the text and font, I can't fix this because the BB coding system is really messed up sorry about that :(

Cleaver Pros/Cons

Pros

-Epic Harraser

-Very hard to gank with a movement speed boost Maximum Dosage, CC reduction Heart Zapper, Flash and a slow Exhaust

-Pro turrent destroyer and attack damage steroid using Blunt Force Trauma

-Stays in lane forever due to Maximum Dosage

-Great 1v1 champion early-mid game

-Extreme Tankyness/ really hard to kill or in some cases, unkillable.

-Goes where he pleases

Cons

-Has to go solo-top or jungle (I might have a jungle section soon but for now if you want to jungle follow other guides)

-In general a bad early game player (farms really bad early game because hes a melee)

-Ulti affected greatly by ignite/heal debuffs

-Can't spam attacks early game and requires an average farm for Warmog's Armor

Masochism Pros/Cons

Pros

-Epic Harraser

-Very hard to gank with a movement speed boost Maximum Dosage, CC reduction Heart Zapper, Flash and a slow Exhaust

-Can destroy turrents really quickly due to Blunt Force Trauma

-Stays in lane forever due to Maximum Dosage

-Wins all exchanges early-mid game

-Easy to lasthit

-Not as tanky as cleaver build, but has great chasing power and damage.

-Goes where he pleases

Cons

-Has to go solo-top or jungle (I might have a jungle section soon but for now if you want to jungle follow other guides)

-Only viable against melee champions (much harder against ranged)

-Ulti affected greatly by ignite/heal debuffs

-Still very hard to kill but you will get killed if you rush into 5 enemies without the help of your team

Masteries

Cleaver Offtank

I go for 9/21/0. This is because Utility isn't as good as attack or defense masteries because mundo doesn't use mana. I put 9 points in Offensive masteries because the 10% magic penetration basically means 10% extra damage on Infected Bonesaw as this skill is essential for kiting and harassing. I put 21 points in defense because u are aiming for a tanky dps build and I personally think that the defensive mastery tree is better than the offensive tree. If you really don't like the defensive mastery tree, going 21-9-0 is fine as well.

Masochism Bruiser

I go 21 offense when maxing masochism first because I like to play on a more offensive side, which can get you an early advantage against the enemy top lane. Unlike the cleaver masteries, you will not need the 10% magic penetration because your primary damage source will be from auto attacks, and we need 10% armor penetration for that instead.

Skills

Goes Where He Pleases (passive)= This is not a bad passive and goes with Dr.Mundo's kit really well. It gives you a bit of health regen which is noticeable early game and complements Regrowth Pendant well. Basically, this passive gives you a free Regrowth Pendant for every 1000 hp you have.

Infected Bonesaw= This is your main damaging skill. Always Max this skill first because it is essential for kills as it will help you a lot in kiting and harassing.

Heart Zapper= Helps you farm late game and its good to turn on for a bit more damage in a 1vs1 fight, so i level it up at lvl3. The CC reduction is also a nice touch to the skill. I recommend making it level 1 early game and then max it out last.

Blunt Force Trauma= Use whenever possible when farming and pushing turrents. also use when against enemy champions. I max this out second and again make it lvl 1 early game so you can get a bit of extra dmg when killing enemies.

Maximum Dosage (ult)= I love this ulti because it lets you stay in lane forever and is like your own heal but with a 60sec cooldown. Use this whenever possible (below 60% health).

NOTE: DO NOT INITIATE A 1v1! WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR OPPONENT HAS IGNITE!!! OR YOUR ULTI IS GONNA BE WASTED!!!

Build 1 or Build 2?

Build 1 (maxing Infected Bonesaw first): This build focuses on farming safely, harassing and in general being an unkillable bruiser tank late game. Maxing Q first will help a lot with harass if the enemy is a ranged champ, but if you are laning against a melee champ like trynd, talon etc and you need more damage in your team i suggest going for the second build instead.

Build 2 (maxing Blunt Force Trauma first: This build focuses on dealing tons of damage and playing offensive and zoning the enemy out of lane exp. Maxing E first will give you a huge ad boost making it easier to lasthit and win exchanges against almost any champion during the laning phase. Although you aren't as tanky as build 1 you offer much more sustainable damage.

Items Explained

Get items depending on the enemy team and how good you are doing. Remember to always adapt your build.

Good Items

Warmog's Armor: **** ton of health that offers you so much bulk that the enemy would never want to take you on.

Spirit Visage: Offers amazing stats for its price. CDR, Magic resist and increases your healing regeneration by 15% that goes extremely well with your ult.

Atma's Impaler: This item is mundos main damage source. When you have 4k health, 1.5% of that is an extra 60 damage for only 2k something gold! You also get some decent armor and crit. I suggest to get this almost every game.

Randuin's Omen: Item active offers amazing utility in teamfights. It also gives you a decent amount of health, health regen and armor.

Frozen Mallet: Decent health boost, some damage and most importantly a slow that procs when you auto attack. With red buff, even nidalee cant get away from you.

Maw of Malmortius: Some decent stats but most importantly the damage increase from percentage of health missing passive goes really well with your Blunt Force Trauma

Wit's End: A relatively cheap item that gives decent stats and suites almost any offtank.

Quicksilver Sash: Removes all debuffs; especially ignite.

Okay items

Thornmail: Item offers the most armor in game and is super cheap. It also comes with a decent passive that returns 30% magic damage dealt to champions auto attacking you. Problem is, you won't really need it since the enemy team won't focus you anyways. Only get this if the enemy team is mostly AD.

Banshee's Veil: haven't really tried this item on mundo but its shield every 45 seconds can be a pain in the *** for the enemy team.

Youmuu's Ghostblade: Very situational item. Only get if your team lacks AD.

Frozen Heart: Amazing armor, CDR and passive that slows attack speeds of enemy champions by 20%. Only problem is that 500 mana goes to waste. If it wasn't for that, I would get this item almost every game.

Don't get this: Guardian Angel This is because mundo is tanky so you shouldn't die even if they focus you and in situations where you actually die, you would probably just get killed twice.

Don't get mana items (with frozen heart being an exeption), ap items or ****py items like sunfire cape (costs **** ton does barely any damage) EDIT: I recently tried to use sunfire cape again and it wasn't as bad as I expected so you can try this item when playing cleaver mundo. Im sure you have good judgement on what you get.

Runes

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration= I get this because it gives your Infected Bonesaw a major damage boost because it doesn't scale with ability power and It replaces the need for sorcerers shoes.

Greater Seal of Health= I get this because it gives you a noticeable amount of extra health and saves you from feeding first blood if the opponent uses ignite or something like that. It also helps you early game.

greater quintessence of regeneration= I get this because it gives you extra health regen early game that complements your Regrowth Pendant plus late game your abilities will cost nearly for free.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction= As you can't really spam your cleaver early game, I get CDR runes which scale with your level so at lvl 18 you will get 9% CDR + 10% from Spirit Visage which helps you a ton. If you have got Ionian Boots of Lucidity it gives you a total of 35% CDR which is really nice and close to capping the mac 40% CDR.

Summoner Spells

Standard Summoner Spells

Exhaust= All around excellent spell for solotop. This is because it can help you escape ganks, prevent another champion from getting away, win 1v1 solotop fights easily and give an extreme advantage in late game team fights if you exhaust their ranged ad carry.

Ghost= Now I put ghost over flash simply because its too good. Cuz since mundo is soo tanky and you can tower dive all day with mundo after you get your warmogs and when your ulti is activated. I also prefer ghost over flash because if you flash and lets say a tryndamere is running away, you would have no way to catch up but with ghost, you can chase them down anytime. It also gives you more distance in the long run.

Or you can replace flash with ghost, it just depends on your preference.

Flash= Very useful spell to get away or to escape ults, ganks etc.

Viable Summoner Spells

Ignite= To get the last bit of health from your enemies and against heal champions.

Teleport= ONLY use in 5v5 solotop so you don't lose exp but i like to use exhaust over this spell.

What not to use

Cleanse= ****. If you follow my build earlier, you would know that i chose cleanse every game for mundo. But i just realized that cleanse does not remove the healing debuff from mundo so it completely removes the purpose of this spell.

Heal= Unnecessary for mundo because he has warmogs and ulti to substitute this.

Revive= Really?

Smite= You can jungle with mundo, but this build isn't focused on it.

Surge= The long cool down really isn't worth it. you would rather get exhaust which is much more useful.

Clarity= If you are a noob, then im telling you that mundo uses health, not mana for his spells.

Promote= Other spells are better than this one.

Clairvoyance= There are other spells that are more important than this, and if you want to reveal a bush, then just throw your cleaver and hear the sound or see if your health goes up. Plus wards can replace this spell.

Cleaver Playstyle

Early Game

This only works if you go solotop. You seriously want to focus on last hitting prioritizing over harassing the enemy. By the way, around 10 cs (minion lasthits) is equal to 1 kill so it is very important to lasthit. REMEMBER TO BUY A WARD AND PLACE IT ON THE RIVER EVERYTIME YOU GO BASE!!! I cannot stress how important a ward is especially when the enemy team has a JUNGLER who can gank anytime. During early game, the top part of the river should ALWAYS be warded.

Mid Game

By now you should have farmed pretty well and got your first major item Warmog's Armor and your level 2 boots. Right now, you will probably finish the laning phase of the game and be looking for ganks on the enemy team or placing a ward near baron and pushing your first turrent (assuming your enemy team isn't completely noob) or getting dragon (remember dragon is worth around 2 kills!)

Late Game

You should now have completed at least half of your build and achieved around 4k health (approx) and be extremely tanky (if you haven't then you are in deep **** and haven't followed the early laning phase properly.) A team fight should be coming anytime soon and look at the section below for the full explanation on how to use your skills appropriately and initiating. Baron control is also really important and should be warded by your support or by you if your support sucks or you dont have one. You should be the one tanking baron for obvious reasons. Remember to NEVER EVER wonder around alone in random places especially the river but you can facecheck bushes with the help of your team since you are the tank and might trick the enemy team into unleashing all their attacks whilst your team initiates.

Masochism Playstyle

Early Game

Usually you would only want to play Blunt Force Trauma mundo when the enemy solotop is more of a melee champion that would hide behind their creeps and lasthit. When the minions have spawned, just lasthit as usual without your cleaver and when they come in to try and get a lasthit eg. nasus, activate Blunt Force Trauma and chop away forcing them to go back away. You would want to try to zone the enemy out of EXP range.

Zoning Tutorial Video:

REMEMBER TO BUY A WARD AND PLACE IT ON THE RIVER EVERYTIME YOU GO BASE!!! I cannot stress how important a ward is especially when the enemy team has a JUNGLER who can gank anytime. During early game, the top part of the river should ALWAYS be warded. If you have trouble farming, get an early heart of gold and continue with the normal build.

Mid Game

By now you should have farmed pretty well and got your first major item Frozen Mallet and your level 2 boots + maybe a Heart of Gold. Right now, you will probably finish the laning phase of the game and be looking for ganks on the enemy team or placing a ward near baron and pushing your first turrent (assuming your enemy team isn't completely noob) or getting dragon (remember dragon is worth aroun2 kills!). You should also aim for getting the first top tower if you haven't already.

Late Game

You should now have completed at least half of your build and achieved around 4k health (approx) and be somewhat tanky A team fight should be coming anytime soon and look at the section below for the full explanation on how to use your skills appropriately and initiating. Baron control is also really important and should be warded by your support or by you if your support sucks or you dont have one. You should be the one tanking baron for obvious reasons. Remember to NEVER EVER wonder around alone in random places especially the river as ever if you are tanky, 5 people can still easily destroy you.

Team fights

Cleaver Teamfights

In a 3v3 or a 5v5, mid to late game there will always be a team fight. Usually you or another tank, is the initiator. throw a few cleavers first, then go in and turn on your Heart Zapper and your Blunt Force Trauma whenever available. Your nukes/carries should be in a safe place (behind carry or when enemies cced) whilst you soak up all the dmg. Remember to activate randuins omen as soon as your team gets attacked so their carry gets a major disadvantage. You should be aiming to disrupt their team and positioning as much as possible giving your carry a good position to take down the enemy teams carry. When you are at about 50% health use Maximum Dosage. Then just go where you please depending on the situation cuz you are the unkillable mundo. (Remember to use your cleaver whilst chasing the enemy team down!)

Masochism Teamfights

Since you aren't as tanky as Cleaver mundo, avoid being the initiator. You can still spam your cleavers before your tank initiates but play a bit more cautiously. Once you enter the teamfight, like cleaver mundo, activate your Blunt Force Trauma and Heart Zapper and go right for their ranged ad carry or ap carry. Chop them up with your auto attacks and chase them down (frozen mallet proc) ignoring anything that comes in your way.
