Introduction

is a melee burst dps champion, who rely's on being able to jump in and pound on the opposing squishy champions. Even though he has had some past nerfs, he is still highly viable and is still one of the funnest champions to play in game.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Very high burst damage.
His passive Relentless Assault gives him lots of health.
Has an escape mechanism besides a summoner spell.
Has an insane attack speed.
Both physical and Magic damage.
He's the champ.

Cons

Weak damage early game.
Has a hard time chasing down champions early game.
Is focused a lot in team fights.
Can be bullied by ranged champions early game.
He has to build his attack speed up.
CC locks you down.

Abilities

This passive is what allows you to make Jax so beefy without building any real defensive items, because of his passive his real health will be at a very nice 3468, and with his natural armor, Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist, and Abyssal Mask make him very tankish.

This is your Q, we will be maxing this skill out first because when the cool down is low you can chase champions much more easily, especially when exhaust is on cool down, this can literally make up the distance an enemy champion has made with Flash.

This is your W, and your main source of damage besides your ult. It resets your auto attack so use it to attack twice when you can. Try using Empower and then Leap Strike to an opposing champion early game for a ton of burst damage.

This is your E, and the main reason why the enemy team hates your guts, we max this last because with Greater Seal of Evasion, Greater Quintessence of Evasion, and Ninja Tabi, your dodge is already high enough to where you don't need to level this past level 1, and because the stun does not increase with level, and the damage increase isn't that high, it doesn't really shine till later game when you dodge a ton.

This is Jax's ult, level this whenever you can. The attack speed it gives you is very nice and the extra damage every 3 hits is insane. It's active gives you a decent chunk of Magic resist, use this when you are about to fight a champion who does a lot of magic damage, or when entering a team fight.

Summoner Spells

Summoner spells are all preference on how you play, I personally use Flash and Exhuast, but here are some notable ones to consider.

Consider these spells.

Teleport is used to get some place fast, you can Teleport to a sight ward for crazy ganks, or to a tower being pushed to defend it, or to a creep wave pushing a tower because with Relentless Assault and Guinsoo's Rageblade you can take down towers at an extreamly fast rate.

Ghost is an amazing summoner spell, it can be used to chase down enemy's or to escape, or even to just get to point A from point B much faster if you need to. I prefer Flash over this for the sole fact that Flash can get you over walls while Ghost cannot.

Ignite can be used to finish off people at low health, or even tower dive them without even being hit from the tower because you Ignite then run off quickly. People say that this spell falls off late game, but I think otherwise, at level 18 it does 410 TRUE DAMAGE true damage means that it is not effected by any armor or magic resist, that can take out 1/4 to 1/5 of someone's life late game, that's a big chunk of life in my opinion.

Even though I don't really like this spell because Quicksilver Sash is this, but better. However if you don't want to waste the item slot on Quicksilver Sash this spell is well worth it, I cannot tell you how many times I would have lived in team fights because of this spell, or at least gotten more kills before I died.

Those are the only summoner spells I would ever recommend to use on Jax, all others just don't work too well with his needs from a summoner spell.

Runes and Masteries

My runes are pretty standard for Jax users, however in my opinion runes are completely optional and depend on your play style, I like these runes because Jax really needs all the extra Dodge chance he can get. He also uses the Magic Penetration for all of his spells, and his Glyphs add some late game magic resist, however you can switch those out for Greater Glyph of Ability Power if you want some extra spell damage.

I go 9/21/0 Masteries because Jax really needs the extra defense early and late game, also talents like Ardor and Nimbleness are just too good to pass up. I put the 9 points into offense because Archaic Knowledge is the only Magic Penetration you have besides your runes until you get an Abyssal Mask.

Items

Although the build I have provided at the top works for most of my games, there are A LOT of items that you can use to change up the game depending how you are doing.

This item works wonders with Jax, him having a decent amount of health because of Relentless Assault it can add a decent chunk of attack damage, also the armor and critical chance are very useful.

This item gives you a TON of magic resist, and more importantly a spell shield, if a Morgana is always trapping you up or something, this can save your life and spell her end, also the bonus health and mana never hurt.

I love this item if I am facing Dr. Mundo, Swain, Soraka, or any other champion who loves to heal, heal, oh yeah and, heal. The life steal and crit are useful, but it is always awesome to make a Dr. Mundo's ult do nothing.

I have never really used this item, but against a heavy attack speed and attack damage team it can do wonders, the cool down reduction and mana can also help for spamming your skills a lot more often.

Frozen Mallet is awesome for chasing people down, if for some reason they all are just constantly out running you even with Exhaust and hextech gnunblade grab this for a bunch of bonus health, and slowing.

If you are dropping extremely fast in team fights get this, for some reason just having the circle thing around you makes people not want to attack you, but even if they do, you can just pop back up and start hammering while they focus someone else.

If there is a Karthus or Ezreal raping you with their ults every time you try to go back to base, grab this and then just have a good laugh every time then waste their strongest ability on you.

This item adds a ton of magic damage to your auto attacks, if their team looks tanky grab one of these every time.

If all they have is spell casters and not a lot of auto attacks, just skip out on the Ninja Tabi and grab this, it gives decent magic resistance and 35% tenacity, which is very awesome and can save your life from stuns and such.

This is the king of killing CC, I love this, I would rather get this over Cleanse or Banshee's Veil because it works so well for getting out of those sticky situations.

I like this item much more then Frozen Mallet it works a lot better for Jax, the ability power really helps, same with the bonus health and basically all of the time you do magic damage and not just physical damage, unless the team is stacking magic resist like its going on a huge clearance sale, always get this over Frozen Mallet.

If you team has a lot of people who need attack speed, like Teemo or just a lot of people who auto attack as their main source of damage, at least one person on your team should always have it, maybe that person should be you.

I almost always get this item if there is a Teemo on the other team I ****ing hate Teemo with every bone in my body, I wish he was removed from the game and I find him more annoying then any other champion ever made. However, this item works great with a Guinsoo's Rageblade and Relentless Assault because your attack speed increases and you start to deal extra damage really often, and on the 12th attack, you do an insane amount of damage, and the active helps for champions with a blind or another Jax.

This item isn't really my favorite on Jax however if the enemy team has 0 armor and doesn't plan on building any anytime soon, just break one of these out and make them regret that plan.

If their team is made up of Ashe, Tryndamere, Caitlyn, Master Yi, and gang plank just grab one of these and watch them melt themselves at your feet.

I personally love this item, however it is pretty expensive, if you have lots of extra cash, maybe pop for it, the move speed from Zeal, the slow from Phage and the bonus damage from Sheen all work very well with Jax however, if you do get this item, make sure not to get a Frozen Mallet, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, or a Lich Bane because they do not stack with each other.

If they enemy team has loads of magic resist, grab one of these instead of an Abyssal Mask or maybe just grab both, whatever you feel is what you need to get the kills and win the game.

This item is great if you have a lot of magic damage casters on your team, however never skip out on a Hextech Gunblade for this.

wriggles lantern I love this item mainly for the free sight ward this item is awesome and if you don't want a madread's bloodrazor grab one of these and possibly sell it later for a better item.

This item is decent, if you want to initiate a team fight, which you really shouldn't do, then use it's active and when it's over just bash on some squishies when they all choose to attack someone else.

Early Game (Laning and Farming)

As Jax you either want to get top, either solo or with a partner, or bottom with a support, or someone with a stun. I wont go over people who are good to lane with because, Jax can lane just just about anyone. I don't like to mid as Jax because you tend to get bullied by ranged early game and you cannot get the proper farm.

Farming is EXTREMELY important as any champion, even supports, it is fairly hard to last hit as Jax, especially if there are ranged champions harassing you, try not use to empowered strike to last hit unless you have to, and for last hitting at your tower make sure to follow this rule, let the tower hit the melee creeps twice then last hit them, and for the ranged creeps hit them once then let the tower hit them and then hit them again, for the cannon creeps just last hit them, there isn't any real order I can give you.

Mid Game (Laning to Team Fights)

The middle of the game is kind of weird for Jax, you are either steam rolling them or you are kind of starved, if you aren't doing to well try to just farm up, if you are doing well, roam a bit and push lanes. Also this may be a good time to do dragon, with a Guinsoo's Rageblade and any kind of life steal, dragon is a breeze for Jax.

Late Game (Team Fights)

This is where Jax really shines if a team has not surrendered already, you can rip squishies apart in seconds, your burst is insane, and don't worry if you die, if you die but you manage to take out 2-3 people by yourself and your team can clean up the rest of the people on their team, it's well worth it.Exalted with Baron Nashor is a very important buff in this game, it gives 40 ability power, 30 attack damage, 3% of your maximum health per 5 seconds, and 1% of your maximum mana per 5 seconds. However I find the 300 gold to each of your team mates to change the game up WAY more the the buff, because most of the time when you have the buff your team is already winning the team fights and this just secures it.

Warding and Jungling

Using sight wards and Vision Wards can change the game, so can having buff and using your and the opposing team's jungle. There are dozens of great warding guides on MobaFire, so I won't go into too much detail, however, you NEED to keep Dragon and Baron Warded at all times mid to late game, other wards just depend on their team, how much they gank, and what buffs they seem to be getting.
Blessing of the Lizard Elder is great for Jax and almost any other champion who attacks with auto attacks. This buff slows the champions effected by it by 30% for melee champions and by 15% for ranged champions at level 18, and the burn damage it deals is 50 per second for however long the debuff is on, this can finish off champions that have flashed away at very low health.
Crest of the Ancient Golem is also great for Jax and once again almost any other champion who uses mana, not so much for those who use energy or champions who have no cost. This buff gives you 25% cool down reduction at level 18, and it increases your mana regeneration by 1.5% of your mana per 1 second, this basically gives you the ability to cast as much as you want, whenever you want, as long as you have this buff.
