Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Robert and i'm here to talk to you about how to play

If you find any errors/you have a point to discuss with me please let me know in the comments and i'll try and address any issues with you.
Now, before you say anything, i realize that my account here isn't ranked, i've done that for a multitude of private reasons, so please bear with me. Without further ado, the guide:
Take a look at this video for a brief overview of Lucian

Flash is easily the most versatile spell in this game. It can be used for a multitude of reasons, whether you are using it to get out of a bad situation and jump over a wall, or you are using it to chase after a fleeing enemy. There's been plenty of times where an enemy has used Flash to go over a wall, and I didn't get the kill just because i was packing flash myself.
Barrier is another great spell for any champion to use, and i find it especially helpful when you are playing the adc. As an adc you are going to get focused, and it's always nice to add an extra chunk of shield they have to knock down. Barrier can save you from ignite, or can be used to make enemies go into a losing situation by using barrier when they think they can kill you.
Ghost is an exceptionally versatile spell. What i like about it, is that it has a shorter cooldown in comparison to

Cleanse has saved my butt so many times as an adc. You just got

Runes

I use these because most games you will end up fighting against at least one ability power focused champion(mid lane) as well as an ap support. These help mitigate the damage that you end up taking and can be a great help in letting you survive.

Help your early game presence in lane exponentially. The early game damage is needed, and they carry into late game just as well. No matter what a bonus 8.55 attack damage helps at least a little bit.

More or less necessary when you go bot lane ad carry, as most of the damage you will be receiving will be from the enemy adc, a little bit of a shield early game goes a long way. Makes the difference between escaping with 100 health or dying. Always take these

Helps making your early laning phase easier, especially if dealing with an enemy

Greater Quintessence of Armor Penetration
A little armor penetration goes a long way. Helps you take out their carry who is under the influence of

Your Ultimate, and trust me, it feels like an ultimate. You can move while channeling as well as cast

I'm not going to give a definitive item list here, as it differs game by game on what you need to purchase. I will, however, give you descriptions on my thoughts for most items on
Lucian and tell you what i usually buy.

This item is a power-house, and works extremely well with
Lightslinger. I buy this in 90% of my games for multiple reasons. The active helps you peel for yourself/your team. It offers attack speed and damage as well as lifesteal all on one item. My favorite part though? The passive works with
Lightslinger, i.e if you attack after an ability you will hit them for an additional 10% of their current health.
Another item a long the lines of
Blade of the Ruined King, you want to get stacks early in the game, so i usually buy a
Tear of the Goddess on my first back. The passive on hit effect is powerful, but remember to turn it off when farming otherwise you will have no mana during a team fight.
This item brings a large amount of damage to the table, but that's it. Not a good item for your first buy, it's usually my third or fourth item.
Another usual buy for an adc, an early
Zeal is a good item and
Phantom Dancer offers everything you need. However,
Blade of the Ruined King+
Berserker's Greaves gives you enough AA speed combined with passive so we build damage instead.
Only get when the enemy is being smart and is stacking armor, otherwise it's just hard to find room for. The passive works well with
Lightslinger and your ultimate applies the stacks as well. Better than
Last Whisper for Lucian.
An iconic item for just about every adc. Damage and more damage. Remember to farm stacks from minions and always try to have full stacks before a team fight.
My go-to defensive item when facing a team that is well-balanced in damage, and neither the apc or adc is super fed. Always keep in mind of the passive. Check if you have the swirling aura around you. I've gone into fights thinking i had it but ended up not due to simply not paying attention. Guardian Angel saves lives.
I get this if the enemy adc is fed, as it offers you good armor and a great passive to stop them in their tracks. The bonus mana helps if you have built
Muramana, so don't overlook this item.
I get this if the enemy apc is fed, as it can ruin their combo and save you from
Rocket Grab from the enemy
Blitzcrank, as well as
Requiem.
I love this item. Damage, attack speed, tenacity, movement speed, and cooldown reduction. My only problem is finding room for it. However, if the game has progressed late, you can replace boots with this.
Runaan's Hurricane isn't bad for Lucian, the only problem i have is that there are better choices and we only have 6 item slots. If you want to have
Runaan's Hurricane you'd have to replace
Muramana(impossible to manage mana while using both procs), and then you lose a lot of dmg. Keep in mind for normals or when you are just having fun you can run this though.
We run into the same issue as
Runaan's Hurricane. It's a good item, but we have no room. The gold spent on building this could be better used on a
B. F. Sword, a
Zeal+
Cloak of Agility etc.... It slows us down.
Whether going the standard OR the Rainbow build is up to you. The Rainbow offers some tenacity, cdr, and some more attack speed, but a smaller amount of damage. You can build either, however for this guide i'm going to talk about the purchase order for my standard build.
When starting off look at who you are playing against. If fighting a tough lane such as a
Tristana and a
Blitzcrank etc.. start off with
Faerie Charm and some
Health Potions and
Mana Potions. This insures that you can out sustain the enemy and build a
Tear of the Goddess quickly.
If you have an easy lane, i.e an enemy team such as
Ashe and
Sona, AS WELL as having a good support, you can start with a
Doran's Blade, however, i don't necessarily condone using
Doran's Blade, at least to start, as it has terrible sustain for the early levels, and if you get pushed out of lane you are going to hurt in levels.
The start that i usually take is to buy
Boots, 3
Health Potions and 1
Mana Potion, as it gives a large amount of sustain and increased movement speed, allowing you to chase the enemy easier.
Tear of the Goddess, as the extra mana comes in handy, due to how mana hungry
Lucian happens to be. Afterwards rush
Blade of the Ruined King, as it's your central item and gives you good sustain/damage in the early levels, as well as a slow, giving you some form of cc, which you lack.
Then proceed to build
Manamune, as you should have some stacks on
Tear of the Goddess and you should have around 20 extra damage from the mana or so from it. At this point I upgrade my boots to either
Berserker's Greaves or
Ionian Boots of Lucidity. Get Lucidity if you are already ahead, and berserker's if you are equal/behind.
Here you can decide if you need to build
Infinity Edge or
Bloodthirster.
Bloodthirster helps your sustain, but
Infinity Edge gives more damage. Both give good damage, but after buying one, buy your defensive item before purchasing the other.
For defensive items, if the enemy ADC is doing extremely well, or they have a team that is filled with Attack damage champions, buy
Frozen Heart.
If the enemy APC is fed, purchase
Banshee's Veil, as it stops burst champions such as
Brand or
Veigar in their tracks.
If you are fighting a balanced team, build
Guardian Angel, as it offers you good defensive stats as well as an epic passive that will allow you to come back and deal more damage

Laning Phase
IMPORTANT: When leashing don't take any of the smaller monsters, as, due to recent jungling changes, these also bring a larger amount of experience that your jungler needs.
After leashing for your jungler, go to your lane. Assuming your enemies are in sight, you can start farming the enemy minions. This is often referred to as getting cs(creep score) or cs'ing.
This means that you should ONLY last hit the minions, which means that you only hit them with an auto attack right before they die. Why do you do this? Because it makes it so you don't push the lane. Why don't you want that? For a multitude of reasons:
-
1)If your lane is pushed this makes it
-
2)They can sit in lane and
-
3) You're
However, be careful if the enemy is pushing their lane. You want that, as it lets your jungler/mid gank the enemy easily, HOWEVER, don't let them push minions to tower range, i don't care if you have to tank a line of minions for this, as this will effectively FREEZE your lane.
Freezing your lane means you can farm next to tower, so you are safe. It also means your enemy can't go in for cs without getting abused by you and your support. Remember, if the enemy is still attacking minions when the lane is frozen, that means they want to push to tower so you can't farm effectively. Don't let this happen and attack them/minions more to keep the lane frozen outside tower range.
Lucian's laning phase is also very similar to that of

Getting those kills

But if it's an assassin(

PUSH TOWERS. This can't be stressed enough. This game is about objectives, not kills, so please keep that in mind. so remember, PUSH TOWERS.
Proper Positioning as an ad carry is one of the most important things you need to learn if you are to get any good at the game. I highly recommend for you to watch this short video and pay very close attention to how
Ezreal is playing, much in the way that he can break
Banshee's Veil with his
Mystic Shot, you can break it with your
Ardent Blaze
Notice how he stays behind before the team fight starts, NEVER does he initiate a team fight, and he stays behind his allies. Also, as you can see he doesn't chase that
Shaco as he runs away, keep in mind that one person escaping in a team fight isn't as important as the team fight itself.

Warding? What? But, but, but i'm the carry!! I need more
Doran's Blades!!!!!!
Yea... No. Warding is an important thing for any and everybody to do. If you are back at base, just bought your next item/component and you have AT LEAST 75 gold and an open slot(come on, you have at least that much...) GRAB A SIGHT WARD! These things save lives. Now, if your support already has dragon, river, tri-bush, and some wards in your own two bushes, here's a map of where YOU should ward.
And here are further examples of good places for wards:
Notice how the wards are placed in areas that offer sight to multiple pathways/areas? Yea, try warding places like that.

Supports that you like
As Lucian you don't have any hard cc, but you bring a bunch of damage to the table. This means you want a support that can peel for you, cc for you, and net you kills easily. So let's get this started

Junglers that you like
Same thing applies for junglers as it does for supports. You like CC, cause you don't have it.

Grading system is based on a 1-5 scaling, with 1 being easiest and 5 being hardest.
