This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
This matchup as AD Sion will be the hardest, you can't land your full electrocute combo, he blocks ults if he's really good, tons of poke damage, good at 1v1, and is tanky. If you are against him top as AD sion, either farm under tower, ask for gank pre-6, wait for CD and go all in, or just afk and get low priority queue.
Darius
Darius is pretty tricky when you're AD Sion; Darius excels in 1v1 meele combat and AD Sion relies on ambushes and the lack of CC. Darius' e range is far enough to hook you in when you are charging a Q. You can abuse the Q hitbox (see notes), go AP Sion when you see a Darius get picked and its not for ADC, or max E for pokes or W for surviving a 5 blood stack on you or ask for gank pre-6, NEVER EVER FIGHT A DARIUS 1V1 UNLESS YOU ARE INSANELY FED OR HE IS EXTREMELY LOW IN MANA AND HP
Aatrox
The new Aatrox is seen as trash but he is actually really good if you know how to play him. He excels at early game which kindof counters AD Sion's necessary snowball to carry. His first Q's range combined with E is longer than Sion's Q range and he can knock you up. His W can also interrupt a escape without ult. But if you read in notes how to abuse Sion, you should be able to win against a Aatrox easily.
Jayce
One of the hardest matchups to be against. He doesn't require a lot of items to destroy a tank Sion let alone a AD sion. You can't out damage him as his Hammer Q+ E can interrupt a Sion Q, you can't chase without ult bc of his Cannone E and Stance Change. He can just harrass you early game so much with his cannon stance. Just do a AP Sion build, or tank, or just farm under tower and roam.
Quinn
One of the hardest matchups and the most annoying. She is all about countering late game tanks with lethality bursts, blinds, and SO MUCH KITING. Just play AP sion, or just dodge, you can't win against a Quinn unless her team feeds.
Alistar
I had to go against a AP Ali top many times in Gold, it was the worst as I got absolutely r*ped. A good Ali top will build AP + CDR and then W + Q you and then E, stun, and then W you back, Q + E, and push you closer to tower and then you're dead. Think you got him with a R? He ults, so when you Q, he just does the process all over again. Its a rare pick but when it is picked, rush qss, and go AP and give him a good distance.
Camille
Camille is annoying with her E, but that's her only mobility ability. Ask for gank when she uses it if your jg is top. A word of advice, give Camille a good distance away if she has 2+ items, she does a lot of damage no matter how bad she might be early game and a good Camille will farm up until she has enough items to destroy you 100 times over. Good news: She can't fight you 1v1 after she uses all her abilities on you, so you can passive her to death. You can also dodge her R with your ult and can sustain her W's with your W's. Basically, unless you think you are a Sion expert, don't 1v1 her.
Cho'Gath
You think that Cho'Gath is annoying and can r*pe you. You are partially right, but first his W range is shorter than your Q range, second, his E aa does less damage then your W can absorb, and third, unless he's building full AP, you can outdamage him. Get him early and never fight him low after 6 or Q when he has Q up.
Dr. Mundo
Mundo is a tank you never want to go AD or AP against. He is naturally resistant to AP from his W, he can survive long fights, he does a lot of damage as a tank, and you just can't kill him. Either go Ornn against him or just go tank Sion and never fight him after 6.
Fiora
Fiora's somewhat in the middle, a good Fiora will save her parry for your Q but here's the thing, your Q lasts longer than her W charge meaning a God tier Fiora will wait for a bit then start using W, if that's the case immediately W while still Q, wait for the full Q to charge up to wait out her W, and if its parried, GTFO she will go all in. When she parries your ult, I'm just going to say you're screwed unless you have qss and ghostblade. Other than that, you can still her while she's doing a Q, just remember that she can go all in and win easily.
Diana
DIana is easy game pre 6, her Q poke is barely any damage to your W, and her W range is shorter than your Q range, and her E is only good if she lands a W. At level 6, she can go all in so you have to supress her early game and do the sion abuses to get her low enough for a all in at level 6, she can get in easily but can't get out easily.
Gangplank
GP has enormous poke with Q, then a qss in his W, and then more poke in his E, and then a global ult in R. So the best way to deal with this is going for pokey AP Sion or Beefy tank sion. But if you want to go AD, use the abuse Sion strats in order to win lane and snowball.
Garen
Garen is singlehandly one of the most annoying champions to play against in Top lane. I would go AP here because of the poke damage that Garen is weak against. Make sure to recall after a huge fight with Garen as his passive can regen his health back and you would be screwed.
Gnar
Gnar is annoying both as a midget and as a giant. His early poke is annoying but his aa range is shorter than your Q range so you can fight back if he decides to intiate. However, he can just e off you while you Q so thats easy. A good strat to learn is how to ult for a split second (see notes) so when he tries to bounce off you, he gets stunned. Other than that, Mega Gnar's W is faster than your Q but its range is shorter so charge up Q when Gnar is walking up. Gnar's Q is the thing you want to avoid at most costs (save that flash). Just farm up, or go tank, or go AP.
Heimerdinger
The only thing you have to worry about Heim is his waveclear and his stun. Just fight him after he uses up his and unless he ults, you win.
I WILL BE UPDATING THIS GUIDE FURTHER, I JUST NEED TO ADD CHAPTERS AND MATCHUPS AND RUNES
Who am I?
Who am I?
Hi! I am known as set435 in most of the games I play and the highest I've gone so far was p5 but then fell to g4. On my alt accounts for venting, I am a Sion main and got out of bronze and climbed to s2 playing Sion then fell as more and more people banned Sion and Sion was nerfed.
For this guide, I feel like people from bronze to plat can use this, the lower the elo the better the play.

Why Play Sion?
Why Play Sion?
Sion is a champion that has been reworked and Sion still has the same feeling, he's still fun to play AP or AD and that made him one of the most unpredictable champions to play. Sion is a fun champion to play, as he has a lot of cc and can 1v1 and/or can be crucial to teamfights. Each time you enter a game vs Sion, you don't know if this boi is going to one shot you with just Ult, going to do insane poke with his AP E+W, or just never die. Sion has a kit that allows a flexible person to do anything and while champs like Riven have their animation cancels and combos, Sion is unique because there's always a different way that works (Crit build, Predator, PermaSlow Sion, etc.) against any situation. You autofilled and got support? Go Sion. You got mid but your mid champs are banned? Go AP Sion and max E. Got jungle but you don't know how to jungle? Go Sion. (I will come out with a Sion jungle guide later on) You need a tank/mage/assassian? Go Sion. Need to make a MobaFire guide and you don't know what champion to do? Go Sion. You need money to buy the Mecha Zero Sion skin? Get a job. You want to teach people the holiness of Sion? Inspire the world with the gift of Sion. Sion is a wonderful champion as it strives people to become better, I went from being insulted by my teammates to getting cheered as a savior of LP. I went from insulting my oppenents to getting oppenent's salty complaints of "Rito nerf AD Sion".
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Of course, Sion isn't a perfect being or he would be the deity of Riot himself, here're some things to abuse/watch out for.
PROS
A very flexible champion
He has a lot of bugs in his kit that can be manipulated
Fun to play
Any playstyle works
Easy to learn, hard to master
Classic Sion can dance with his mastery emote if timed properly
As of patch 8.14, he is played very rarely and no one bans
Wins teamfights in small cramped areas
CONS
He is especially vunerable to cc in early trades
No taunt, so you have to be a literal wall in front of your team
His Q can be dodged/you will land a full Q 1% of the time you play Sion
Trades as a Sion are very mana costly
Ranged champs almost win lane vs Sion
Some dueling top laners (Darius, Jayce, Fiora, Garen etc) just beat Sion with their kit
His Q can be seen
High mobility champions excel against a Sion
Why not only tank ftw?
Why not only tank ftw?
The reason why I am not focusing on tank Sion is for a few reasons:
AD Sion is satisfying to play against squishes once you master the art of Sion
AP Sion is satisfying to play against lane bullies once you buy and play Sion
Tank Sion is pretty useless tbh, he can't taunt meaning there's no way to soak up damage 100% of the time, why not build damage and some tanky items to survive enough
AD/AP Sion have such low CDs from items
Its just fun to play AD/AP Sion rather than do no damage
Team Comps: With who should I be with?
Team Comps: With who should I be with?
Sion in general exceeds with teammates who need cc to excel or teammates who can pull glue enemies together. There's a lot of champions down this list so here we go:(adding the glue champions later)
CHAMPIONS THAT EXCEL WITH SION CC
Annie is someone who needs to land her R and W and a good Sion ult or Q can allow her to place a stunning R or W which can pick off the carry of the enemy team Sol is champion who can land a Q or a R with your Q or R to push enemies back into his nether regions which can help your team either escape or with his Q, help land a wombo combo. Brand is someone who needs to land a W+Q+R to melt away the enemy team, so a Sion Ult or Q can fufill this combo assuming you ult into the whole enemy team. If you E and slow, even a noob Brand can W+Q to stun then kill them. Cass is really good champion to play with Sion, this is due to Cass able to land a easy W and slow to help you Q or R and as they are stunned land a Q and/or E and maybe a ult to stun them even more. Darius needs gapclosers like AD Sion, and a infinte stun counts as a gapcloser. If your Darius goes AD and not tank, land a R, he W and Q, and while this happens, you Q for another stun, then he aa until he gets 5 stacks and then GG Diana is useful the second you land a Q or R, she ults in, Q+W+E then you just murder them all :) Ekko, assuming he isn't a noob, can W in the space of your R or Q, then its infinite stun and then he can ult/q/e and its gg assuming their carry dies, I would not recommend going with a EKko for 90% of your Rs or Qs unless he's a genius like Shiptur (just to clarify, a m7 0/10 Ekko is not a genius) This is a long stretch, I would not consider Eve as a champion who excels in CC, but as I just met a Eve main, this was my promise to put this in the guide. Eve is exception where you have to go AD in most games, why? Because once your insane Q or R lands, assuming you are using my build, eve can just ult and get at least a double kill. Its a long stretch, but its viable. Fiddlesticks is one of the champions I hate the most in any lane because of his stupid kit. It sucks to lane against him, but as a teammate, his Ult+E+Zhonyas is really good if he is going AP. But your Q or R can help him ult in and do more damage with you. Pretty sure the stun lasts enough for him to ult in You land R or Q, he R+E, ggwp (yeah I hate fizz) A good GP doesn't need you to crit his barrels, but a good enemy team can predict. So you're going to have to R+Q for his E is land +R, while his R doesn't do that much damage, it slows and helps your team catch up.
