Introduction

Hello people this is my first guide but I plan to do many more including Fiora, Zac, and many more top laners/ junglers. If you do not agree with my build that is fine, no one says you have to use it. And I would also point out this is a guide you do not have to follow everything I state. Please be considerate of others and polite to those you disagree with. Olaf is my favorite jungler by far because of his excessive power and survivability. Now this guide is meant for experienced Olaf players so if you are just starting work your way up to this one. Mastery of this build is mastery of Olaf himself.

Runes

OK people, Runes on are VERY important.

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
For survive ability take 9 Greater Seal of Armor and 9 Greater Glyph of Magic Resist. This will help you with surviving jungle creeps and lane minions during ganks. These are not negotiable.

Now your Marks there is a little room for change. PERSONALLY I believe 9 Greater Mark of Armor Penetration are best, but I focus on killing towers and tanks. You can do 9 Greater Mark of Attack Damage instead. If you want TRUE tankiness to build your Atma's Impaler more you can do 9 Greater Mark of Health or Greater Mark of Scaling Health.

Lastly the Quintessences. Take 3 Greater Quintessence of Life Steal. Trust me. The plus 6 percent life steal is VERY important on Olaf. It allows you to win trades early on because of Berserker Rage and turns you into a mini Tryndamere. If you think I am absolutely insane for picking life steal Quints, take 3 Quintessence of Attack Damage.

Items

Items are straight forward.

HIGH DAMAGE

Phantom Dancer - 50% attack speed, 30% Crit Chance, 5% movement speed, and can move through units. The reason this item is under "high damage" is because of the attack speed and crit chance. This increases Olaf power significantly. VERY POWERFUL ITEM! Phantom Dancer allows you to ignore enemies in a team fight and go straight for the ADC. If you take this item build Mercury's Treads instead of Berserker's Greaves.

Wit's End - Attack speed that does set magic damage on hit AND steals magic resist from the enemy. This is a nice item if your team is heavy AP and you feel like being helpful otherwise the only benefit for Olaf is the attack speed.

Statikk Shiv - If you get this you better have Phantom Dancer already and you want to be doing excessive Crit damage with Olaf. You don't need the minion clear of its passive because you already have Hydra.

Zephyr - Well... If I didn't say this was a good item, I would be lying. However, Zephyr is VERY situational. Most of why someone gets Zephyr is the Tenacity bonus, but if you already have Mercury's Treads the passives don't stack.

Youmuu's Ghostblade - Want burst damage with heavy penetration and attack speed? Only if you plan on killing towers. Moving on.

NEVER

Bloodthirster - There once was an Olaf who wanted all the health. He build a Bloodthirster thinking he could steal all his opponents life without even trying. Little did he find out, his plan was not working properly. NEVER build Thirster because its stacks are partially lost on death. For the money there are MUCH better choices.

Infinity Edge - 70ATK and 25% crit is tempting but WAY to expensive. There is better for cheaper.

Executioner's Calling - Fighting a ? Because that is the only justified time to build this item. Ever. On any champion. Seriously...

Sword of the Occult - No.

Trinity Force - Phantom Dancer and Shiv give most of what you would want out of Trinity for cheaper so just go with them.

Skill Sequence

Olaf's abilities are very unusual in regards to order. Most people say to max his Undertow first, but that is not a good idea. Jungle Olaf requires a much different order sequence for maximum efficiency.

Berserker Rage is the most useful ability on Olaf; however, it is also the most dangerous ability if used incorrectly. For every 1% of health you are missing you gain 1% attack speed. A common misconception about this is that you do not need to build tanky items on Olaf. False! Since the number is based off a percentage, your max health number means nothing. This is why Frozen Mallet is such a powerful item on Olaf. These bonuses to attack speed increase all of your on hit attacks including life steal, crits, and Ravenous Hydra cleaves. Learn to manage your health for fights because the weaker you are, the stronger you are.

Undertow is a utility ability for poking and slowing enemy champions. This ability is your backbone move in ganks. One key thing to remember about Undertow is that the farther the ax is thrown the slower the enemies become. Another important mechanic about Undertow is that you can pick up the thrown ax to half the cooldown timer. However, it is not always required to retrieve the ax. Understanding when to retrieve the ax and when not to is one of the most important.

Ah, we arrive at the most beneficial ability to our friend Olaf. Tough It Out allows for not only sustaining a fight, but also a tremendous amount of damage. Not only does it increase your lifesteal and attackspeed, Tough It Out increases your healing effects by 1% for ever 2.5% of health missing. This paired with Berserker Rage makes you VERY hard to kill in a fight. However with this power remember the problem with damage sustain, you HAVE to keep fighting. As Olaf be sure to watch the direction of a fight and keep fighting once you pass the point of no return. Running as Olaf is hard, but fighting to the end is much easier with Tough It Out and Reckless Swing.

My favorite move. Reckless Swing is a versatile ability and a highly unique one to Olaf. Reckless Swing, unlike most of Olaf's abilities, does not take mana but a small portion of health. A lot of people avoid using Reckless Swing recklessly because if it doesn't kill the target 30% damage to himself. Careful management of this ability is crucial. Misuse of Reckless Swing can kill if you have low enough health and you do not kill your target. Personally it is one of my favorite skills for many junglers. Reckless Swing is a nice replacement to some of the many jungler's fear attacks.

Ah Ragnarok, my old friend when jungling Olaf. Personally, I rarely activate Ragnarok but instead abuse the passive armor and magic resist. However, the attack bonus damage is extremely useful in ganks. Watch out for Lux and wait until she has wasted CC then activate Ragnarok to escape then ruin her day. Be sure to manage your usage of Ragnarok so the enemy team can't play around it being down.

Team Work from the Jungle

Ah, Team Work, the most important mechanic of a jungler. Olaf can get away with a more lax amount of communication. Just follow these 5 rules for jungling.

1. Buy a Trinket save a life.
Always buy a trinket, and above all remember to use it, often. If you take Scrying orb check jungle creep locations to ensure they are there, Dragon, Baron, or any buff. Sweeping Lens? Check bushes for wards and clear the enemy team's vision. They have to spend more money on wards which means they aren't saving money for items.

2. Blue First.
I have seen many people start Olaf on red buff. I point and laugh at those players. Only 2 champions ever start red, Olaf is not one of those. Blue is required for cooldowns and mana regeneration. It will save you a lot of hassle.

3. Gank Bot lane First.
ALWAYS follow this rule. Unless your bot lane is just dominating and mid or top need the help more. The reason being most junglers gank there first so if you go bot first you can turn the 3v2 into 3v3.

4. Don't Feed the ADC/Feed the ADC.
This rule pairs straight off the previous one. When ganking bot, do not be reckless. Vayne Miss Fortune Lucian Jinx and Caitlyn can all stay at a safe range near tower and coax you to dive tower for a kill. Ignore this temptation. If you can give your ADC the kill, do so. As a jungler your job is support lanes not carry so support your ADC by giving them the kill. However, Do not be afraid to secure kills for the ADC.

5. Stay in or out of the Circle respectively.
This one may seem obvious but as Olaf you can forget to be aware of the circle. This means be mindful of when an enemy champion like Pantheon Grand Skyfall, Nunu & Willump Absolute Zero, Hecarim Spirit of Dread, Trundle Frozen Domain Pillar of Ice, Elise Rappel, Fiddlesticks Crowstorm, Akali Twilight Shroud, Galio Idol of Durand, Gangplank Cannon Barrage, Jarvan IV Cataclysm, Rammus Soaring Slam, Karthus Defile, Talon Shadow Assault, Ziggs Mega Inferno Bomb, Zyra Stranglethorns are all many different types of moves that follow the circle philosophy. What this rule is meant to do is make you mindful of CC. Example if you have Pantheon on your team try and keep enemies in the middle of his skyfall. Counter to this be aware of an incoming skyfall and get out of the circle.
