Introduction

Pros and Cons

Runes

Explanation
Greater Mark of Desolation-I find these to be the best choice in the current top lane meta, as almost all top laners (including Renekton) run

Alternative choices
(Still Viable, can be chosen if you dont like my setup)-

The Seals and Glyphs I run on almost every champ in the game (except mid laners), but if you found an alternative setup that works for you then go for it.
Greater Quintessence of Desolation-If you are looking for loads of armor pen then you can run these, but dont go AD marks with Arpen Quints since you lose 5 points of Arpen as you would only lose 3 AD by using my setup, and 5 Arpen>3 AD

Any other spells are for trolling. End of story.
In short, we want to max Q first, then W, and finally E, picking up ult when we can.
However, if the enemy jungler is a strong lvl 2 or 3 ganker (i.e.

Starting Items

This is what you'll want to go in most situations, as it gives you good mobility and sustain. Helpful for escaping jungler ganks and pacing in the lane to avoid harass.

If you have Movespeed Quints or are looking for a power start then

This setup gives the most sustain and defense, but lacks mobility and damage. If you are still not completely confident in your

This is an amazing early game Bruiser item, and it fits right in to

Again a great early game Bruiser item, and works wonders with

This is almost mandatory if you face one of the AP top laners (i.e.

Like I said in the above section it's a good idea to pick up either this or the

This is a good item if magic damage is just too much. However, only build this if you planning on getting one of its final items. (i.e.

Boots

After further consideration I have decided to make these my go to boots. They are just so invaluable to a tank/offtank. The CC reduction is just too hard to ignore.

These boots are just amazing on

These are also excellent boots if you're facing a heavy autoattacker opponent, someone with heavy physical harass, or someone lacking CC. (i.e.

This is a viable item if you're trying to be an anti-carry, since it gives you a quick steroid in order to take down the enemy carry(s), as well as upgraded

This gives you damage and survivabilty really, and works perfectly with

If you're looking for HP and more HP, this is what you want. Giving you 1350 HP when fully stacked, you'll be able to take alot more punishment. Consider this instead of mallet if you are the only tanky champ on your team.

If there are at least 2 major AP threats, then this a good item, as it gives the most MR in the game, as well as nice HP regen and movespeed.

This is the best anti-AD in the current meta (along with

This along with

The best anti-CC item in the League, as well as hefty amounts of magic resist. Consider this if they have really hard disables like

Early Game

Mid Game
By now you will hopefully have a couple of kills and/or assists under your belt, and maybe a death or two. If not, it's ok, Mid Game is when

Late Game
Now you should have 2-3 core items, and even more kills and assists. Make sure you stay with your team for the most part, and you have all agreed on a carry/squishy to target. Always try and have wards at Baron and Dragon, and at least one oracles. (Hopefully your support picks it up.) A good rule of thumb is to ward the enemy jungle if you're winning and your own jungle if you're losing. This helps get kills on people to either maintain your lead or try and take the lead. At this point, a single Ace could mean Victory or Defeat, depending on who gets it. If a teammate likes to go out of position to farm or take jungle, really try and encourage them to stick with the team. At this point your main role will be either to soak up damage if you're the only tanky champ, dive the enemy carrys, or protect your own. Remember to activate
