I suggest taking

Taking HP/Level seals is something that I realized was best after many, many

I take FLAT AP Quintessences for super lane damage, remember that the more damage dealt; the bigger the shield. Having your shield up at all times is important as so you don't take unnecessary damage. MAKE SURE YOU HIT

The AP/Level Glyphs are important because just your sole 4.95 AP from the Quintessences aren't enough, they won't provide into late game, for maximized late game damage, combine this with your 15 AP from Quintessences, 0.17/Level Glyphs and your major items and you're certain to be Legendary.
AP and Health per level are for the early game stages, where if you harass, you maximize the shield and damage output. This method won't render you useless if you spam skills to zone the enemy.
This is the basic skill sequence you want to go for, it focuses in maxing
Siphon of Destruction for high AP nuke damage being the most bursty you could possibly be while maxing
Creeping Death second for the farming plus extra
Resistance
.
This set combination is the same as Gambit Gaming's Alex Ich (Moscow 5) uses while he plays this champion.
If you're up against a harder mid such as
Kha'Zix or
Zed. You might be willing to take all skills at level 3. This will help for when they make engages on you and will also be a good way for farming against them.
Iron Man is
Mordekaiser's super I-Destroy-Everything passive. Not many people understand it but it's the main reason
Mordekaiser is so tanky without having to build tank and is able to facetank a team.
Iron Man works off all
Mordekaisers other moves.
Mace of Spades,
Creeping Death,
Siphon of Destruction and
Children of the Grave. 35% of the damage dealt with any of these moves will be transferred into the shield, (17.5% on minions). you'd want to start harassing when your shield reaches about 50%-60% so that you can trade with no damage taken.
Mace of Spades is
Mordekaisers major single target move, it specialises in utterly destroying a single target and is a great move to take at level 4 for AP ranged champions, or at level 3 for
Assassin
mids and bruiser tops.
Mordekaiser should be maxing this last out of all his moveset because as AP
Mordekaiser this move is hard to use correctly, it requires you to be in the opponent champions face and could cause you a major loss in your lane if you try harass with it. It's a great farming tool for early levels to last hit with but other than that, you shouldn't be putting more than 1 early point into it.
Creeping Death is your main utility move, it supplies both resistances (level 1 = 10, level 5 = 30) to an allied
minion, champion or pet. It's an amazing harass, you can place it on a minion to farm and it's awesome for 1v1ing with those resistances to help you out. IT'S A GREAT KS'ING SKILL TOO ;).
Siphon of Destruction the absolute greatest harass in League of Legends, the move is broken. It's a cone ability which hits further than it's supposed to, it's damage is immense and it allows
Mordekaiser to kill more and more.
Siphon of Destruction is by far the greatest move on
Mordekaiser and no one would think twice about maxing it by level 9.
Children of the Grave is one of my top 3 favourite ultimates in League of Legends.
Mordekaisers ultimate has 3 stages. Stage 1:
Mordekaisers ultimate deals (12%/14.5%/17%) of the targets MAXIMUM health in magic damage, that's a lot of damage. Stage 2:
Mordekaisers ultimate deals (1.2%/1.45%/1.7%) of the targets MAXIMUM health every second for 10 SECONDS, that's crazy damage over time. Stage 3: If the enemy is KILLED (Not killed a bit then revived by GA or Zilean) then
Mordekaiser gains 20% of that champions AP and AD and
Mordekaiser gains the ghost of that champion for 30 seconds, 75% of his AP and AD are transferred to his ghost and he can use it as he pleases.
(To aim
Mordekaisers ghost, you HOLD ALT and right click or HOLD 'R' and right click.)

This set combination is the same as Gambit Gaming's Alex Ich (Moscow 5) uses while he plays this champion.
If you're up against a harder mid such as

(To aim

Who To Aim.
This is very important. There are 3 types of people you should be aiming with your ultimate to use it to its maximum potential.
Type 1: The AP Caster. These are the people who have no real use for you apart for the huge buff in AP.
Type 2: The Tank. Tanks come in different forms, sizes and species. Let's take
Maokai and
Dr. Mundo for instance.
Maokai is a great tank, although he's not one which you should be aiming too much. He relies on spells like his ult to make his team tankier.
Dr. Mundo on the other hand is a straight flat meatshield who devours anything that comes at him. Since
Mordekaisers ult does hp based damage, this would be your second best option.
Finally type 3: The Carries. Carries should be focused 80% of the time, no matter what kind of carry it is. If they have good AD, you want them. Carries come in many types, there's Ranged based carries like
Tristana and
Kog'Maw and there's Melee based carries like
Master Yi and
Tryndamere. In the new META it's suggested that you mostly focus down the ranged based carries as they do more damage and are harder to get to, but really you should get whoever is most fed because if you do, you aim them down quicker than anyone else.
Now. Who NOT to aim with your ult.
Zilean or anyone with his ult. Even if you kill the person, you don't gain the ghost.
Anyone with
Guardian Angel, try at least get it down first. Otherwise it'll be the same case as
Zilean.
Nocturne with his
Shroud of Darkness. It will completely negate the ult, rendering it useless.
Sivir with her
Spell Shield. Same as
Nocturne.
Anyone with High Magic Resist.
Singed BEING A MAJOR ONE. You won't do enough to them.
Anyone with
Quicksilver Sash or
Mercurial Scimitar BIG NO-NO'S, they can remove the effect of your ultimate's DoT.
Finally anyone with a Clone. Such as
Wukong and his
Warrior Trickster,
LeBlanc and her
Mirror Image and
Shaco with his
Hallucinate.

Try to rush your
Sorcerer's Shoes just before you get your
Seeker's Armguard, it's amazing to see the amount of extra harass and ability to farm that gives you. As soon as you have a
Sorcerer's Shoes ->
Seeker's Armguard ->
Hextech Revolver combo, you may see a lot of the enemy team Q_Q, this is because now you're overpowered and should be able to W -> E -> Q a minion wave and it'll disappear. Aim to burst down high priorities, with items that give you great amounts of AP and good defensive stats, you're going to see a lot of
kills and minimal deaths. You really have the choice for your last item, Get
Abyssal Mask first if they're heavy AP teams or
Liandry's Torment if you think their team has too much
Magic Resist. With
Liandry's Torment being insanely strong at this point in game, why wouldn't you get is as early as possible?

Ok, I'm going to explain the biggest counters for
Mordekaiser and how to counter the counterpick.
Cassiopeia - Many people believe a
Cassiopeia vs
Mordekaiser lane is a goner for
Mordekaiser, this isn't necessarily true.
Mordekaiser with early
Sorcerer's Shoes should be enough for you to dodge
Cassiopeia's most vital source of damage, the poison. If you manage to dodge her poison, her
Twin Fang will be forced upon cooldown, that's a vital part of
Cassiopeia's burst. During laning phase, keep your distance and use your W on a
minion and E to farm, getting too close to a
Cassiopeia in early stages is dangerous, as soon as you reach level 9, your e's burst/poke exceeds much of her damage, so make engages only once you know her
Twin Fang is on cooldown and you're post level 9.
Yorick - Attempt to use his ghouls to your advantage, if you're able to use your
Siphon of Destruction to hit his ghouls and
Yorick, your shield will already be too high for him to make any serious engages. In short, don't allow him to get free poke off you, make sure you use your
Iron Man (passive) to it's greatest effect.
Brand -
Brand may have damage overtime, although his
Sear is very iffy, if he misses his stun, he's forced to back off his engage or else he's vulnerable to a lot of damage.
Brand is very squishy but his burst is enough to counteract that loss, if he lands his
stun, it's an almost guaranteed burst death for you.
Malzahar - MOVE, avoid his
Call of the Void silences and you're free to engage. Make sure you're able to push the lane harder than he can pre-level 6, if you can do that much, he'll find it hard to counter push and he'll have trouble taking the lane. Don't attempt to fight or
auto attack
minions once
Malzahar has his
Malefic Visions on a
minion, that's basically allowing him to engage onto you. Play it carefully once he's level 6,
Mordekaiser's biggest weakness is the inability to move or cast, as soon as you're unable to cast spells, you cannot gain a shield and become vulnerable to death.

When it comes to farming, make sure you can pick up early last hits with auto attacks, don't start spamming level 1, it'll hurt you. When you reach the 15 Min mark, try to have at least 130 cs, with this your lane will be a piece of cake. When you push to the enemy
tower, take your
wraiths, push to tower again, take
wolves. This method is a way of farming that, even if the lane is doing well against you, you're sure to have the advantage (Just make sure to tell your
Jungler you'll be taking his stuff, he'll get mad if you don't :3) Just know, that when you have your
Sorcerer's Shoes,
Seeker's Armguard and
Hextech Revolver, you can W -> E -> Q and minions will die to your awesomeness.

In all seriousness, in a team fight try to prioritize using

1. Balls-deep in the middle of the fight, take damage but have your shield soak most of it up, this is for the teams which have hardly any cc or teams which are not willing to cc you.
2. You play it carefully, wait for the right moment while poking their team down. Once your team engages, you're free to jump on their carry and if your team has common sense, they'll do the same.
You're free to play out the fight as soon as you have their carry, position it (click 'R' and right click or 'Alt' and right click) and place them in a place that they're easily seen, this'll take focus off you and put you in a position where you're able to dish out more damage while keeping distance.
In early stages, when

All in all,
Mordekaiser is a one man team based off carrying brain dead idiots through elo hell, if you are able to play
Mordekaiser and your team follows up with you, you're granted a certain victory. (this only applies if you use my build ;3)
