So I'll start with this AD Toplaner Sion which is the classic Sion. It's the most played and probably the oldest Sion meta. Actually, I say AD but of course it's not full-AD it's a lot, a lot, of tankiness. And you'll need it. Here are some tips on how to play Sion Top AD.
-
PROS
- A lot of tankiness, sustain.
- More useful in teamfight with Q and R damage.
- You won't be flamed for playing Sion Top AD.
- Low-cd CC and slow.
|
-
CONS
- Lot less harassing damage on-lane.
- Very fragile to hit-n-run adc's.
- Quite slow and easy to catch.
- A bit boring gameplay as Sion AD.
|
CUNNING is to get more damage on your Toplane. On the
RESOLVE now, because you'll be farming with autoattacks, you'll probably be harassed by the ennemy toplaner. You need tankiness with
Unyielding
and
Tough Skin
to be able to farm peacefully and maybe survive ganks easier. Now to have more sustain/ stay longer on lane: you need health-regen:
Runic Armor
Perseverance
. Then, I prefer
Swiftness
to
Legendary Guardian
because as an AD, you are useless if slowed, and you have enough tankiness with this guide. Finally, I prefer
Grasp of the Undying to
Courage of the Colossus
when you play AD, because you will autoattack the ennemies much more than when you play AP, and this mastery is really practical to stay longer on lane and have more sustain. It's the ideal Toplane key mastery.

Basic runes that you should already have. You need a lot of armor: you will probably face an AD-Offtank champ. You also need basic AD so that you have early-game-damage in case the ennemy toplaner wants to fight all the time. Of course, magic resistance is necessary for late-game but also if you get ganked or roamed by midlaner.

|
Corrupting Potion:This is your starting item. It can make you last longer on lane for the first 35Minutes of the game and is really useful when you feel low in mana or health and are fragile. Don't forget to use it though. It's much better than taking extra-tankiness.
Iceborn Gauntlet:As a first item, iceborn gauntlet can be a strange pick, but I prefer it because the extra-armor, the cooldown reduction and the mana are everything you need with Sion AD at this stage of the game. Use Roar of the Slayer then autoattack to slow him again and Decimating Smash.
Ninja Tabi:As you will probably face an AD-Offtank toplaner, and your biggest fear with Sion is a hit-and-run adc, you need to resist to them both and these boots are pefect for it. You can also pick Mercury's Treads if ennemy team has a lot of cc.
Titanic Hydra:This is a key item to farm correctly. Aswell as making farming much more easier, this item will provide 35AD, double health-regen and 450 health. So this is absolutly necessary as an AD Toplaner. See Gameplay section to see technics on how to farm quickly.
Sunfire Aegis: This is extra-tankiness to resist longer, but also an additionnal zone damage arround you, quite useful when you'll engage with Unstoppable Onslaught. If against strong-AP, build Banshee's Veil instead.
Dead Man's Plate:I really like this item on Sion: it gives a lot of mobility which you need. It gives armor and health for a quite decent price and the extra-slow and damage on the first auto-attack is really important.
Black Cleaver:This is really important with Sion. If you don't want to be constantly slowed and be usefull, even when you're dead, you need extra-speed and damage. Building this is necessary on this Top-AD build, but not necessarily on other lanes.
Frozen Mallet:Angry that you never manage to catch up ennemies? Take this items and every champ you touch is condamned to die under Sion's hand. (or an allie of course but it's less impressive.)
|

As an AD-Toplaner, you farm with your autoattacks. That way, you are quite vulnerable to ganks. That's why you should freeze the lane in early-game so you're not surprised. For those who don't know, freezing the lane means not hitting the minions until they only need a last-hit. It ables the ennemy minion-wave to go further to your tower and you'll have more power on your lane. Maybe a lesson I should give to some Yasuo players? Anyway, so play safe in early-game. Don't worry, you have sustain so you can last longer. When your jungler ganks, E to slow opponent, and Q. If ennemy flashes, see if jungler is near and if yes, R to stop him from escaping. Otherwise, forget it. In late-game and teamfights, you're the frontline. Of course don't overextend if there is a Blitzcrank but otherwise, you stand in front of your team to protect them. You should engage with
Unstoppable Onslaught. It's not that important if you fail it, but try landing it correctly to be in the middle of the ennemies to start the teamfight. If you land it, you'll probably win the teamfight as it's a game changer but you can do so much CC without it's not that important. Press
Soul Furnace, and instantly
Decimating Smash. Stop it when you feel ennemies are getting out. Slowing is better than nothing. Then
Roar of the Slayer their carry so he can't moove and your team can kill him easily.

This is my personnal favourite Sion gameplay. It's so satisfying to deal so much damage and feel so few in exchange. Also, the farming skills are very different from an AD-Sion.
Here are some tips on how to play Sion Top AP.
-
PROS
- A lot of tankiness, sustain.
- More useful in 2v2 or smaller fights with E and W damage.
- You probably won't be flamed for playing Sion Top AP.
- Low-cd slow and high harassing-damage, big pressure on-lane.
|
-
CONS
- Harder to farm and keep mana at the same time.
- Very fragile to hit-n-run adc's.
- Quite slow and easy to catch.
- If you fail
, you will be quite useless.
|

As an AP-Toplaner, you will need less tankiness and more harassing-damage to be useful. Moreover, you won't need to fear ganks as your
Roar of the Slayer which you max will slow jungler/toplaner down so much it will almost be a 1v1 and nobody will 1v1 a Sion, especially near from your tower. That's why I take more AP, and less armor in my quints. If you don't agree, don't hesitate to flame me in comment-section.

|
Rod of Ages: Giving you scaling HP, AP and Mana is exactly what you need with this Sion. If you build this item, what i strongly recommend, build it in first item so it has time to stack.
Ninja Tabi:As you will probably face an AD-Offtank toplaner, and your biggest fear with Sion is a hit-and-run adc, you need to resist to them both and these armor boots are pefect for it. You can also pick Mercury's Treads if ennemy team has a lot of cc.
Sunfire Aegis:Same as AD-Toplaner, this item will deal extra-AP damage arround you and provide enough tankiness you need. The damage is really decisive when you ult and make so much damage arround you, you are almost like an Amumu.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This item will be really important in late-game when your team or yourself will need will need to catch up the other team’s carry or escape from ennemies. But Rylai’s also provide HP and AP at the exact right price for a mid-game Sion carry.
Warmog's Armor:in late-game when your team or will need yourself will need to catch up the other team’s carry or escape from ennemies. But Rylai’s also provide HP and AP at the exact right price for a mid-game Sion carry.
Liandry's Torment:This item is mainly used when you already have enough tankiness in your team and need damage. Aswell as giving HP and a big amount of AP, you will burn ennemies quite bad, making them more fragile for your team.
|

As an AP-Toplaner, the best early-game position you can take is offensive. You can harass and put pressure on your lane with
Roar of the Slayer. Notice you will do more damage (almost double) when you push a minion on a champ than if you directly use it on a champ. You won’t do much damage to the minions with autoattacks so farm using all your abilities correctly. This is how you should farm a wave correctly :
Roar of the Slayer on the first minion and on all the wave, then press
Soul Furnace, wait 1second that all the wave comes back, and press
Decimating Smash arround all the wave. After that, you’ll only need to press
Soul Furnace and the wave will be cleared. In late-game, you are the front-line and poke the ennemy team with your
Roar of the Slayer. Don’t get too close, you don’t have enough AD damage to be kinky.

Sion Support is for me the strongest and most OP Sion-builds. You are the most annoying support for the other team, or maybe equal with Miss Fortune Support. (I also made a MF Support guide if you want to check it out)
-
PROS
- A lot of tankiness, sustain.
- More useful in 2v2 or smaller fights with E and W damage.
- You probably won't be flamed for playing Sion Support.
- Low-cd slow and high harassing-damage, big pressure on-lane.
|
-
CONS
- Often low-mana at the early-game.
- Very fragile to hit-n-run adc's on the lane.
- Quite slow and easy to catch.
- If you constantly fail
, you will be quite useless.
|

FEROCITY
runes will provide damage to you and to your ADC with
Expose Weakness
. The
Savagery is really useful to use
Relic Shield's passive. Do not forget in laning phase to autoattack ennemies sometime to apply
Bandit
and put pressure on-lane.
Intelligence
is really useful to have much more CD and be much more useful with Sion to help your ADC. As a key mastery, you have two options. Either you're playing a safe game, with a strong late-game team and not taking too much risks, if that you should take
Stormraider's Surge
but otherwise, if you feel you can make the difference and carry your team to dominate the lane and all the game, take
Thunderlord's Decree
. Depends on your gameplan, both key mastieries are worth and quite useful.

The Runes on Sion Support are quite classic AP-Offtank runes. You may already have one page of these runes so that's quite practical to pick if you have been autofilled in support and didn't prepare your Sion-Support fully. Giving a lot of AP will increase the damage of your
Roar of the Slayer and make you really annoying. You will need the tankiness given by the runes because you have more offensive masteries so you should compensate with runes to be tanky aswell as damage-maker.

|
- eye of the equinox: This support item is for me the best on Sion as you can a huge 500HP, 3x more HP-regen and 10% cooldown. I can understand some of you could prefer
Eye of the Watchers for the extra-gold when harassing, but honestly you need the tankiness and regen. 500HP>200HP.
-
Ninja Tabi : As you will face a hit-and-run adc, you need to resist to him but also the toplaner/jungler in late-game and these armor boots are pefect for it. You can also pick Mercury's Treads if ennemy team has a lot of cc.
- zeke’s harbinger : This is the perfect early-game support item with Sion. Aswell as giving mana to keep you spamming you abilities, it gives AP, armor and cooldown reduction. It will also increase the damage of your ADC. There is one condition so that this item works : stay with your ADC at all time.
- rylai’s crystal scepter :This is mid-game will be really decisive : helping your teammates catching or escaping ennemies when your use
Roar of the Slayer. It will also give you health and AP : exactly what you will need at this point of the game.
- randuin’s omen :This is for late-game carry in team-fights. When you all-in with ult, just press randuin’s so that everybody stays next to you and don’t escape easily. It will also be useful if anybody is chasing you or your ADC to slow him. The armor and HP given is also really useful, and you will reduce ennemie’s attack speed if they try to focus you.
|

So with Sion Support, be quite aggressive in early-game, using
Roar of the Slayer and using autoattacks on minions to get more gold with
eye of the equinox. In mid-game and late-game, be the frontline and tank damage for your team on drakes and teamfights. You are a really decisive player so try not throwing your abilities for nothing. If an ennemy is focusing your ADC, use your
decimatin smash to remind him who is winning the game. Don’t overextend without your ADC, you only put damage every 8 seconds. I mean you also have that OP shield but it’s harder to use well, as the ennemy will probably burst it. Here are ADC Sion is quite good with :
. Ok Lee Sin is not an ADC, but if you’re in a normal game, try out this really-fun combo. He
Sonic Wave a minion, you
rear of the slayer it far behind ennemies and he
Resonating Strike and then
dragon rage and ennemies are all yours, quite fun to be honest. For that, don’t take any AP and don’t max your E, or the minion will be killed to easily. If you want more informations about why Sion is good with the other ADCs, ask in comment.

The Jungler Sion is really strong in this meta and should be carrying quite a lot of games. Your ganking-power is really high and you will probably feed your team before feeding yourself, but it’s ok, that’s what you’re made for. Here are some tips to get better on a Sion jungler.
-
PROS
- A lot of tankiness, sustain for an easy-jungling.
- More useful in teamfights or bigger fights with all abilities damage.
- You probably won't be flamed for playing Sion Jungler.
- Big pressure on lanes when ganking. You will make the ennemies want to play safer and not push as much.
|
-
CONS
- Often low-mana at the early-game.
- Quite fragile to hit-n-run adc's when ganking.
- Quite slow for early-game ganks and jungling.
- If you constantly fail
, you will be quite useless on ganks.
|

If you red the masteries part, you understand getting health/health-regen is decisive with this Sion. You will also need armor of course to resist some damage. So that you don’t get useless, also allow yourself additionnal AD and AP runes to settle heavy damage aswell as being a heavy tank. If you didn’t prepare this before, prefere taking an AD-Offtank rune or AP-Offtank than a full-tank or a full-AD/AP.

- stalker’s blade – cinderhulk
-
-
-
- dead man’s plate
|
- stalker’s blade – cinderhuld : The tankiness and zone-damage of this jungler item is terrific. Also, the 15 health multiplier will perfectly suit to your HP-based-build. I prefer stalker’s blade to any other jungler items because of the slow. You are a support-jungler more than anything so slowing down ennemies is your power.
Ninja Tabi :These boots may be a bit less useful than in lane, because you need more mobility to go from one lane to another. If you feel tanky enough, you can take Mobility Boots but don’t forget you’ll have dead man’s plate in late-game. Choice is yours.
Rod of Ages :This is really useful for your midgame. Giving you AP, Health and a huge amount of mana which will last till the end of the game. The fact that is stacks is not a problem as you’ll be really strong with Sion after 20Minutes. Before, it’s just feeding your teammates.
Titanic Hydra :To farm in jungler but also to cover a lane, you will need this also for the stats they give :AD, Health-Regen and Health. That’s what we need, remember the jungler item. It also makes you an hybrid Sion, a lot more useful in late-game. (AD+AP)
- dead man’s plate : So this item is really useful to be much quicker and deal extra-damage and a 50% slow on your first auto-attack. What should we ask better than mobility for you and immobility for ennemies ? I really advice you to take it as a last item as you can builld it for quite a reasonnable price.
|

Jungling is quite slow with Sion but really easy after mid-game thanks to your
Soul Furnace dealing a lot of damage. Don’t forget to use it before he gets canceled by the damage. When doing a gank in early-game, try coming when a minion wave arrives : it will increase your slow and damage when you engage with your
Roar of the Slayer. After that, press
Soul Furnace and
Decimating Smash at the same time and activate both abilities as soon as he tries to get out. If he
Flash, you have no more abilities, just go on another lane and continue ganking. In mid-game and late-game, be the frontline (as with every Sion build tbh) and poke ennemies. You shouldn’t fear the fights, as you are a tank/bruiser/AD absolutly complete OP champ.

Hey guys let me introduce you to what I call : THE DESTROYER. No I don’t call it like that but it’s badass so now I do. Sion Midlane is one of the unknown meta in this [7.8] update which is actually very OP. Dealing really heavy AP damage and being able to resist ganks quite easily, it’s for me as good in midlane as a fed
Ekko. Here are some tips on how to master it :
-
PROS
- Sustain and damage for an easy-farming.
- More useful in 1v1/2v2 or smaller fights with your E and W damage.
- Can resist ganks after first item and boots.
- Big pressure on lane with big pokes. Your all-in combo can kill nearly any midlaner.
|
-
CONS
- You will be flamed at 99% for picking Sion midlane, but tell them to trust you.
- Quite squishy and slow.
- Harassing ennemies will make the midlaner really defensive and ganks for you practically impossible.
- If you constantly fail
, you will be quite useless.
|

Midlaner runes, classic AP with still some tankiness necessary not to be killed by a
Janna tornado. Just what you need to deal enough midlane-damage and carry your team all the way. You can also take magic penetration if you fancy it, but I personnally prefer pure-AP as it can kill squishy champs more easily. Let tanky-champs for your teammates, you don’t have any AD-damage.

- doran’s ring
-
- Hextech GLP 800
-
|
- doran’s ring :This is really cool to start with giving you AP, mana-regen and health. Way more worth with Sion Midlane than any other item. You should keep it till minute 30 approximativly.
Morellonomicon :Absolutly stunning AP damage, and huge amount of cooldown reduction and mana. Perfect as a rushing-item, will also reduce regens from the other champs : useful in late-game also.
- hextech glp 800 :This is so OP with Sion midlane. It will give you Health, AP and Mana and will also give you an extremly-decisive slow that you should put just after putting your ult down. It will deal damage and slow everybody arround. Also additionnal sustain.
Guardian Angel : A really useful item to get tankiness and an extra-life (3rd life ?) when focused in team-fight and waiting for your team to come back. You should finish the game with that so that the late-game isn’t too painful and you can always comeback. With Sion Midlane, poke is the key. Harass ennemy midlaner who will really not understand where the damage comes from, and avoid making him back undertower by pushing minions on him. Make him late in the game, miss creeps and say ss everytime he tries to roam. You will feed yourself while ennemy midlaner will just freeze arround level 5. In late-game, you are more tanky so you can allow yourself to frontlane. Don’t overextend, you’re much more fragile than you think. Don’t take too much risks, you will certainly have more assists than kills but you don’t need to feel useless : you’re carrying your team through a supporting midlaner. (remember midlane Zyra, Karma or Zilean… old metas…
)
______________________Go back to top of the page
____________________ Now this is the off-meta Sion. It is not adviced to play in a ranked game unless you are premade with the support and feel in a good day. It only works with certain harassing supports, that I will detail in the Gameplay part. Here are some tips to manage a cool game with Sion ADC :
-
PROS
- Second-life can kill somebody quite easily.
- More useful in teamfights or smaller fights because of your Offtank-ADC meta.
- Can resist ganks after first item and boots.
- Big pressure on lane with big pokes. Your all-in combo can kill nearly any squishy champ.
|
-
CONS
- You will be flamed at 99% for picking Sion ADC, but tell them to trust you.
- Quite squishy and slow.
- Harassing ennemies will make the botlane really defensive and ganks for you practically impossible.
- Need to be close to ennemies to deal damage.
|
|

So, maybe I complicated them, but they’re supposed to be ADC runes, mixed with quite a lot of attack-speed. You’re are playing with letality and life-steal so you need more attack-speed than the usual. If you want to use your premade ADC runes, go ahead it will probably be fine, that’s just an ideal.

- doran’s blade
- youmuu’s ghostblade
-
-
-
|
- doran’s blade : ADC rules, just lifesteal, health and a small amount of lifesteal, always useful for the first 10minutes. It’s better than taking doran’s ring or anything else : you only do AD damage.
- youmuu’s ghostblade :This is what you need to build as a first item. The movement-speed-bonus is the main reason, but also the letality, the cooldown reduction really practical on your
Decimating Smash and of course the 60AD that will make you an early-game beast, just like would be a Lucian at this point of the game, but melee-champ.
Blade of the Ruined King : I like to build this to get the lifesteal you need to be useful and not die instantly. It replaces your health-regen when you’re tank. Also, the attack speed will really help you being dangerous.
Black Cleaver :This is mainly chosen for the movement-speed-boost everytime you hit an ennemy, but also for the tankiness and the extra-AD that will make you feel really strong at this point of the game, where everybody starts escaping from you.
Frozen Mallet : Wait what did I hear ? Everybody starts escaping from you ? NOT IN MY RULES. By taking Frozen Mallet, you become… a disease ? Everybody you touch is condamned, has to die, from your hand or from the hand of one of your teammates. Sion ADC is a melee champ : so it’s hard to farm unless you have an efficient support with you. Here is a small list of what can be in sinergy with a Sion ADC : Blitzcrank, Zilean, Thresh, Morgana, Lux, Miss Fortune, Kayle, Lee Sin(see sion-support meta for that synergy)
